Black Forest cake

Don't be fooled by the quiet exterior, this is a very busy, popular bakery. A very good selection of cream cakes, jelly rolls and Savory buns, mostly catered to local clientele. BBQ pork buns and custard tarts are excellent. The fruit and Black Forest cakes are outstanding. Nice touch, they always offer a candle for birthday cakes. You can buy most cakes by the slice. Order online a couple of days before for cakes if you can. Pick up is super easy and well organized. Staff is very friendly and efficient. Rating 4.7

My FAVOURITE chestnut cake in Vancouver!! I ordered ahead at @michelecakeshop_ 's official website for a 6inch cake. Everything went smoothly with the online order and pickup process. They will offer u a free message written on a chocolate decoration. The chestnut cake is absolutely better than any other bakery location in Vancouver. If you don't have a big appetite for crazily sweetened dessert, go for it! The cream and chestnut was creamy and smooth. Their cake is not a traditional sponge cake but richer in egg content. It's also moist and soft, but not spongy and airy. Please try them if you haven't !!! Lovely staffs, lovely service, amazing quality Recommended Michele Cake Shop 6033 West Blvd, Vancouver

Called in and placed an order for 40 egg tarts. Our friend recommended their tarts so we ordered a whole bunch to bring back home. It's been a few days now and I heated it back up in my conventional oven and it's still tasty! Got some bread to bring home too, was soft. Will try their cakes next time!

still delicious! Came here for a few slices of cake for mom's birthday and I can only echo what i've said the past few visits. I love their chestnut cake since the filling is light on the whipped cream and not too sweet. My dad still can't stop raving about their black forest and the cheesecake again, was not quite new york dense but moreso than other asian cheesecakes with a good sweetness level. Tried out the mango mousse and tiramisu as well which were all very good! Overall, not too high of a price for soft and delicious cakes!

Whenever I'm in Kerrisdale, I always must get pastries from Michele Cake Shop... it's one of my favourite Chinese bakeries in Vancouver. Someone had raved to me a long time ago about their Portuguese egg tarts and I haven't looked back since. Due to covid, they currently don't accept walk-ins and everything must be pre-ordered online. On my most two recent visits/orders, I ordered a variety of pastries including: Cocktail Buns, Pineapple Bun, Coconut Cream Bun, and Cheese Weiner Bun. But my favourites and must-orders are always their Portuguese Egg Tarts and Fresh Mango Cake... they're so good! I'm also a huge fan of their Chicken Bun, but unfortunately it's not listed on their website for pre-order (yet ). Hoping that they add that back into their menu soon.

These guys deserve a huge shout out. I've eaten Asian pastries/desserts for my entire life. This is a standard HK style bakery with the usual items. That's where the similarities end. First off, the ambience. It's NOT standard at all. The décor all over the walls shows a love for Europe, including travel books and classical music with references to Beethoven. Not only that, there is a picture of Maestro Claudio Abaddo, in his younger years as well as pianist Andre Previn. No Asian bakery that I know of in Vancouver does this. They have classical music playing in the background in the store. Today, it was a violin concerto by Mozart, #1 if I am not mistaken. Again, no Asian bakery in Vancouver does this that I know of. Another thing. They are DEAD SERIOUS AUDIOPHILES. The system they were using to play the classical music was a McIntosh tubed amp, and a Pioneer Elite series player. This is NOT cheap stuff. When I see a system like this, with the accompanying music, you got my attention. My antennae perk up. I didn't get a chance to scope out their speakers. OK, enough about the music and the environment. Two things ordered for take out. Portuguese egg tart and a curry beef puff The curry beef puff was quite tasty. The pastry was flaky and curry flavor was good. The Portuguese egg tart was near excellent, if not the best in Vancouver. Custard was firm and the top was caramelized nicely. The crust is the way I like it. Hard for me to describe it, so you have to try it on your own. This was a five star stunner in my books. I know I am definitely returning for the tarts and to take in the music and the beautiful sound quality coming out of that system. In fact, I'd like to speak with the owner. Cash only. Parking on the street and in the back.

A high end, high quality bakery in Kerrisdale. They are a bit pricey but it's like anything else. You pay for what you get. They use high quality ingredients and are very skilled in what they do. I used to work in the area and one of the cooks I worked with had to borrow some sugar or something from them, he told me that their kitchen was immaculate, you could eat off their floor! That's rare in any kitchen. I love their Portuguese egg tarts, creamy, sweet and the pastry is nice and flakey. Their cakes are also excellent, they use fresh fruit and are delicious. If I still worked in this area I would be here quite often.

Referred by a friend as I forgot to pick up a Mother's Day cake on the day! It was busy with people purchasing yummy baked items and cakes. There were many to choose from and I went with the chestnut cake. The presentation if the cake decoration was impressive as well the cake was delicious! The cake was soft and light.

$50 cake that's 60% cream and dry/thin cake layers that are likely made from discarded cake trimmings

We ordered a $50 chocolate birthday cake that ended up being 60% cream. The cake layers were so thin and uneven that they were probably made from the tops of discarded cake trimmings. The sponge cake layers were dry as well, and overall the chocolate flavor was weak. What a rip off.

Curry fish ball focaccia was a very unique item. The focaccia dough had very chewy and soft texture, curry flavor was strong which I really liked. Fish ball was decent and surprisingly paired with this focaccia dough and gruyere cheese on top. I really liked this item. Egg tart was decent. Pastry dough was flaky and large, custard and sesame rice ball filling provided chewy mochi texture. I liked this item, too. They always offer very creative and unique flavor's combination. Especially Asian heritage month items were worth trying.

It was a huge hit with everyone! The 6 inch cake was $69 and I added a customized birthday message on chocolate for an extra $3 which was a nice personal touch. They also offer a gluten free option for an additional $10 which is great for accommodating different dietary needs. One thing to keep in mind is that you'll want to order online well in advance because their cakes sell out quickly. I can definitely see why. They're fantastic! I'll be ordering from Gary's Patisserie again for future celebrations.

Gary's only allows to order the fresh mango cakes up to one week ahead to ensure they have enough ripe mangos, which I admire their dedication. We ordered the 6 inch cake for 9 people (7 adults and 2 kids) and everyone got a thin to average slice. The cake is definitely prettier than the other fresh mango cakes on the market, has a lot more mangos that are perfectly ripe and sweet, there is less wipped cream, and the sponge cake is softer. The family agreed that Gary's has the best fresh mango cake but at $69 for a 6 inch cake, versus $43 for a 6 inch mango cake from Saint Germaine, a cake from Gary's is definitely a treat and for special occasions. Is Gary's worth the premium price? I think so but not everyone in my family agreed. One thing to note: Gary's do offer cake in a jar that's $8.50 each. When we went, they had a BOGO deal with the mango cake jars. My nephew asked my sister to buy the BOGO deal knowing that the 6 inch cake was not going to be enough, as the kids like having a second slice of cake.

As I love desserts, I was so excited to see Chinatown and visit this place for the first time. This place was located in an area that would be best to walk with a friend or a small group- I was not quite prepared to see and experience what was going on all around. Finally, we made it there and were glad to order some doughnuts. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by the sweet smell of doughnuts and the two friendly staff. Everything looked so good, so narrowing down our pick was very hard! At the end, we ordered two flavours- Matcha and Tiramisu. The matcha doughnut was soft and the filling was light yet full of matcha flavour that one would expect, I loved every bite! Well it seems ownership has changed and the new owner doesn't give two craps about prior customers, honoring discounts, replying back timely or being more friendly? Was playing email tag and finally submitted the 39 flavors and didn't hear back until after another week and then told they won't deliver only in morning when they know our reservation was for 730pm and they're open until 9? I even replied back and nothing. We own and run several business in lower mainland and in United States and this customer service from Unni Pastries is trash. At least you can do is reply back and apologize? For wasting time when I specifically told you it's for family and friends flying into town for a funeral burial. Will never use their business again.
