There was a very specific truck we were looking for: A 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 Crew Cab in dark grey. We live in Long Beach and I made the drive out to Southgate check out the truck. It looked to be in good shape for this year and was pretty clean overall. I worked with K and Jay on the purchase. They seemed to be very straightforward, did not play games. They worked with me on the pricing and generally did not try to upsell me on anything. The process to purchase the truck was pretty fast. The interest rates right now aren't great, but we plan to refinance soon for a lower rate. We left the dealership happy. Now here's the trouble.... We've had the truck just one week and it won't start. It's dead on the street. When I was at the dealership checking out the truck, they did not have the key fob for the truck, which they explained was typical since used cars are often repo's. When I went to open the truck door when checking it out, the alarm went off. This, they said would be fixed by having a key fob made. They said that WE had to pay the $220 for two key fobs for the car. This was odd, I've never heard of a dealership making someone pay hundreds of dollars for the key to the car they just bought. However, because they did cut us slack on the pricing, I said fine. The trouble started about 4 days after purchase. The car alarm started going off each night around 2am and 3am. Then, less than a week after purchasing the truck, it will no longer start. We are getting an error message that there is an issue with the theft-deterrent system. We called the dealership and they told us to connect with the locksmith who made the key fobs. He came out and said it's not an issue with the key fob, that it's an issue with the aftermarket alarm system placed on the vehicle. The day we had the locksmith come out, it was street sweeping day and we got a $70 fine for the truck being on the street, which just added insult to injury. We called the dealership again and they said they would google what could be going wrong. At this point, we don't feel confident with that and we now have to pay to have the truck towed to GM to get to the bottom of the issue. We're pretty bummed about the whole experience and wish we got a working truck out of the deal, understandably.

My story began when searching for a 2023 Dodge Charger SXT. Like many, I hit Auto Trader, Edmonds, Kelly Blue Book and Car Gurus. And then "CarFax", whose "AI" probably tracked me, sent me an email with a 2023 Charger SXT at Upgrade Auto Sale. It's important to let the reader know I reached out to a handful of other dealerships that had similar vehicles. I reached out to both national and privately owned dealerships, whose names I will not share. Suffice it to say, that only Upgrade Auto Sale warmly and safely welcomed my contact. The others all the did the same "hurry up, giddy up". Their approach and demeanor turned me off. It is important for me as a potential buyer, to feel "safe" and not "pushed" by a seller. Hands down, the very first time I connected with Wendy, and then Finance Manager Naji, they welcomed my inquiry about the car I was interested in. They both made me feel like I was not only their only customer, but made me feel like I was part of their family. Together we negotiated a deal on the car, and I accepted their proposal. In fact, to me, it was a deal almost too good to say no to. I quickly gave credit card data to secure a "non-refundable" deposit, to hold the car. Since I live in Central California, five hours away from Southgate, we scheduled my bringing my trade in to complete the deal in two days. After the call, I ran and re-ran the numbers, telling myself I needed to "sleep on it". After a restless night, stressed out, I finally realized I was making a BIG mistake, that the cash I would need to close the deal would be important for me to have, when my house for sale sells. I realized that the amount of cash that would be needed to buy the car we had negotiated, would be necessary for me to buy my next house in the south bay. I reached out to both Wendy and Naji, explained my needing to "back out of the deal". Naji's compassion was over whelming, unexpected and deeply appreciated. He even told me he would refund half of the "non-refundable" deposit, which I didn't expect. He said that my complete satisfaction was more important to him than a car deal, and in fact did refund half the deposit immediately. In all of my years buying personal cars, this outcome, is something I would never expect from a car dealer. Naji's empathetic response made me feel like I was important to him; like I was a part of his family. Who wouldn't want to do business with Naji and Wendy. Dear reader, I hope my story resonates. Car salesmen often resist giving out a buyer's order because it allows you to leave, shop their price at competing dealerships, or secure cheaper outside financing from your own bank or credit union. A legal buyer's order forces them to tie every single dollar to a legitimate, accountable line item. Without it, they could treat your wallet like a moving target and tack on hidden fees and other charges like they just tried to pull on me today. Absolutely disgusting. I came in with my own financing from my employer's credit union. My credit union approved me for $19,604. Today, Car Lux tried to get me to pay $2400 for some made up fees when I have still never received a buyer's order. They showed me a print out of a DEALER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM PORTAL showing the price of the car. The manager straight up lied to my face and told me that printout of that portal was a buyer's order. Are you kidding me???? These people prey on naive people and they literally BANK on people being stupid enough to fall for their BS; your inability to think critically makes them money. I asked again for a buyer's order, and the employee Ken disappeared for what seemed to be almost 10 mins, only to come back with what I didnt ask for. He handed me a RETAIL INSTALLMENT SALE CONTRACT. When I received the retail installment sale contract, I prepared to leave. On my way out the door I said "I know you people wont make a commission off of me if I use 100% of my financing, which is why you are trying to charge me fees you just made up when I haven't received a buyer's order". I walked out the door and across the lot to leave the premises, and a car salesman I havent had any contact with yesterday or today prior to this ordeal popped out of nowhere and assaulted me trying to snatch the retail installment contract papers out of my hand!! He said the papers were his. Um excuse me these papers have MY information on them!! There is nothing confidential about you on any of these papers!! There is a review on Car Lux's Google review with someone saying this place tacked on the optional AMO to increase their sister's loan. This exactly the same BS they tried to pull on me. They asked me to pay the $2,400 loan increase. They also pressured that person's sister to use the full amount of her pre approved loan. That is exactly what the manager here tried to do to me by using my credit union's 125% bank limit as an excuse to max out my loan for their own profit. I was approved for $19,604 and they tried to increase the loan to $22,0004!!! And tried to pressure me into paying them the $2400 out of pocket to drive the car off the lot.
