Microcenter is my location for finding computer related tech that no one else carry. I would give more starts, if their service was better. If you know what you want and know your tech, this place is heaven. They carry wide variety of hardware and software that can satisfy any type of customers. I never had any problems with purchases I made in this store, most of them worked perfectly and the ones that didn't I either returned it or exchanged it. Price wise they have good prices that in many cases beats amazon.com prices as well. I you looking for odd computer hardware and software here is the place, but do not expect a lot of service. After RadioShack went belly up here is the only place left for people like me. read more

I spent the better part of thirty minutes looking for a NAS, after dropping $400 on NAS drives here the other day. They had the exact drive less bay that I was looking for, I was actually quite happy to pay $225 versus the $169 online price I found for the same drive, and having to pay sales tax as well....so I took my prize to the front of the store to pay and go home. AT LEAST FORTY PEOPLE IN LINE. For a lot of stores, this isn't a problem, but I have enough experience here to know how ABYSMALLY SLOW their checkout process is. They take so long to cycle people through their registers that there was no way I was about to invest that kind of time to standing in THEIR line. I put down my several hundred dollars purchase and left. I'll buy it online, cheaper, with no sales tax, and just have to wait an extra day for it to get her. I'm happier for it. read more

Hands down, best place to shop for electronics. Do not go to Best Buy or Walmart or Office Depot.. you will get what you're looking for cheaper and at better quality here. The only annoying thing is the staff can be pushy with their sales trying to get you to buy warranties. Some staff are very knowledgeable while others are less. I buy my ram, Nvme SSD drives, cases, headsets, speakers, cd spindles and mice from here. It is like a modern day Circuit City with better prices and products. *This is about the phone customer service* Absolute Garbage customer service. Waste of my time and gas. I called to check if something is in stock. I understand that their website is "up to date" and I understand that "limited availability" means that there is no guarantee any item is in stock. That is why I called the store itself to inquire if the item was physical in stock. She got an attitude with me when I asked if she could go manually check for the item. She huffed and said "The inventory shows a couple are in. "She refused to go and check or get someone to go actually check in the store. So I drive up to the store to be welcomed with a sign that says the item and any of the other in the series are out of stock. I asked a worker that was close by how long the sign has been up. He told me that sign was there since yesterday afternoon. Welcome to Microcenter customer service. Mrs/Miss I am too lazy to get off my ass to check something for a customer. Last week I brought my desktop PC in for service - the hard drive was failing, and the mouse feature was erratic, among other things. Much to my surprise, Micro Center no longer asks customers to complete an online data sheet, and instead provides a clipboard and pen with a paper form. While it initially seemed to be a step back in time, the exact opposite was true. Business has increased, and additional space was needed up front for technicians available to diagnose problems, allowing the customer service rep to provide a more accurate repair estimate and/or alternative. Lucky for me, Hamza, an experienced technician, asked me about the issues with my PC and signed me in directly; in subsequent days, he contacted me by phone and email to provide repair updates. When I reinstalled the computer at home, one of the dual monitors was flickering on and off. Hamza provided several suggestions via email, and finally asked me to return with the PC and the monitor. After checking in with Yusuf, I was referred to Carlos, who thoroughly tested the PC, monitor and dvi-d cable. His conclusion was the monitor was bad, and repairing the 7-year old monitor would exceed the cost of a new one. Carlos offered to help me find a proper replacement, and then tested it out with the PC to be sure it was fine. Later, when I reinstalled everything, my system was perfect and performing like new. For many years, I have been a customer of Micro Center, and while some of the retail salespeople may seem clinging, they are readily available for questions and assistance, unlike many other stores. The repair center staff, on the other hand, is very customer focused and can spend considerable time diagnosing problems, recommending solutions, and achieving desired results. First off all, I want to say that the customer service here is horrible. Particularly, there was this one really rude sales person who argued with me that he couldn't find an item I printed off the website because I printed the wrong page (What? You work here...you're supposed to help me find it!). Well, how was I supposed to know that? this is all that the "find-it" kiosk at your store printed out for me! The cashiers were really nice, although a bit overworked and under-trained, as I have observed. Some of employees were really unprofessional and just plain out rude. However, if you find the right person, then your experience here will no doubt be pleasant. Just watch out for the ones who are rude and uncouth. To be honest, I found it intimidating to be in the store. There were so many sales people just watching you browse around like vultures, just constantly asking you if they could help. Fine, maybe that's great customer service to you, but I don't need that much attention, thank you very much. The way they just gang up together and talk made me very uncomfortable and I found them really hard to approach. I was afraid that I was going to interrupt their conversation!! Micro center should really train their sales people better... If there is one good quality about Micro Center, it has to be the range of items they have. The salesmen are complete imbeciles. Not only do they know not a thing about the very products they are pushing on people, but they are clearly doing it with the products that simply give them the largest commissions. One salesman in particular, Brian Dinyarian, sold my brother a liquid CPU cooler that was not only completely unnecessary, but is WAY too big for the case in which it is being installed. It can't fit anywhere in the case, and Brian should have known this, because he should have asked what case my brother has. Not only that, but the CPU/Motherboard combo he sold my brother was also, obviously, arbitrarily chosen for him because it must have a very large commission attached to it. THE CPU DIDN'T EVEN COME WITH A STOCK COOLER It takes about 5 minutes to read up on any product online. There is absolutely no excuse for the incompetence of these salesmen. A kid who happens to be well-dressed is NOT qualified to sell computer components. I've been building custom PCs for over 15 years, and I want to support physical stores when it makes economic sense and is a pleasant experience. So I headed to the Fairfax Micro Center recently to pick up a part I needed for an upgrade. I think it's cool to be able to go to a store and browse for random parts and gadgets and chat about my build, especially since the prices at Micro Center are comparable to major online retailers (Newegg, Amazon, etc.). While the employee I talked with in the PC parts section was helpful, I found the cashier to be rude and condescending. He gave off kind of a 4-chan, alt-right vibe. If I were this store's management, I would work on training the cashiers to be more respectful and not passive-aggressive. As for myself, I'm planning to build a new PC when the AMD Ryzen 3000 series comes out, and I think I'll probably just order all the parts online instead. read more

Horrible service! My MacBook Pro's had a couple problems and the Apple Stores nearby all had a day or two wait for appointments, so I took it to Micro Center. Unfortunately that was a mistake. The technician who took my computer didn't seem to understand the issue, and I had to spend 10 minutes explaining it. Finally, they took it for repair. Unlike the Apple Store, where a "Genius" will take it to the back and open it up and diagnose it during your appointment, Micro Center said it would be a day or two. I received a call the next day. They said they wouldn't diagnose the problem because there was "accident damage." What accident damage I asked, as there had been no accident. Well, there was dust and hair inside by the air intakes. That's not an accident, I calmly explained, that's normal usage. When the fan runs, it draws in air -- if there is dust in the air (and a dog in the house), that comes in too. That's normal. Then he said there was liquid inside. Liquid inside, I asked? Was the inside wet? No, he said, but there was dirt. Dirt. Dirt is not a liquid, I noted. And you already said there was dust. Nope, they refused to do any work on it. I called back and asked to speak with the manager. I was told he was on the floor and would call me back with in the hour. An hour passed. Then two. After nearly three hours I called the manager myself. I believe his name is Jeff H. He was extremely rude and dismissive. I told him that what the service tech said didn't make any sense. He condescendingly explained to me that manufacturers have indicators inside that change color when there is water damage. Had these indicators changed color, I asked? Well, um, hum, well, it was dirty inside, he stammered. I told him to reopen it and look inside. Sure enough, the indicators did not show water damage (as there was none). But there was dust. (Duh!) I had him send me a picture and sure enough there was dust. It looked like dust. The stuff that's in the air and gets sucked into electronics through the fan intakes through normal usage. Well, he said, there was some "crusting" that you can't see in the picture. Invisible crusting huh? How strange! And yet, despite there being no sign of accidental damage, he still refused to fix it or even diagnose it! He said the dust, was a "bio-hazard" and he would not allow his technicians to blow it out. What a total crock of John Bull!!! When I got there to pick up my computer, another manager thanked me for my business. HA! I laughed in his face and said they have lost my business and told him what had transpired. He stiffly said he was "sorry for my inconvenience." I said, "and therefore you are going to do what?" He looked at me blankly. "Well, you said you are sorry I was inconvenienced, but what are you going to do about it." He and the associate huffed and puffed a bit, then went looking for a manager who could not be found. I took it home and opened it up myself. Yes, there was dust consistent with normal use. No, there was no "crusting." No there was no liquid damage. So I spend an hour round trip two times (drop off and pickup) three hours waiting for a returned phone call and got nothing but lies from an arrogant manager. read more

Took my MacBook Air to Microcenter and they charged me a $39.99 fee to open the computer. I called apple and they offered to do the same for FREE, so I called microcenter customer service and asked for the service to be canceled. They guaranteed that would not be a problem and that I'd get my full refund. Got to the store and the manager Mr. Stravos said this was my problem and would not process the refund. Invited me into his office with closed doors! Creepy! When I refused to go into his office he closed the door on my face and told me to go have a good day. Micro Center Fairfax is not handling shopping in the covid-19 era at all well. I ordered two items online for pickup, came to the store to see 40 people in line waiting to get in, all less than 6 feet apart. They told me to come back the next day since they were closing early. They have no way for you to pay for your stuff online and then have someone just bring it too you in front of the store. Let's start with why I originally liked this place, then we can talk about yet another bad experience. Micro Center used to ROCK (with FIVE STARS)! Lots of staff that could help, knew their products, and knew what you needed. I've purchased computers and peripherals here over the years. Now, it's a fine place if you know what you want and don't need any assistance whatsoever. And I've noticed that as their competition has dwindled, so has Micro Center's customer service (ZERO STARS). Guess you don't have to be polite to your (potential, repeat) customers if you have no competition. And there are plenty of online parts dealers who can provide what we need with no "attitude." My Mac laptop that I use for my business had semi-died. So the Tysons Apple Store Geniuses, after running diagnostics, suggested that I go to Micro Center to have the logic board replaced for a better price than Apple would charge. That's the kind of customer service that I like! So, I trekked down to Micro Center. The surly angry man in the technical repairs office growled at me when I asked if I needed to plan to DROP OFF my laptop for repair, or would I sit and WAIT for it. A legitimate question, because some places will repair while you wait. Instead, I got a LECTURE. What exactly was wrong with my computer? (Apple Store said it was Logic Board.) How could I POSSIBLY know that the logic board was the only problem? (I don't, that is what Apple diagnosed.) Was I aware that if I told Micro Center that I wanted the logic board replaced, and that it wasn't the logic board that I should be PREPARED TO PAY for not only the logic board replacement but anything else that needed to be replaced? (This is where I decided that I didn't need to give Micro Center my business, of course I know I need to pay for repairs.) And then there is the $70 for diagnostics and wasn't I aware that would need to be run after they replaced the logic board, at MY DIRECTION. (Dude, you're replacing parts before running any diagnostics whether or not I asked for them? Really?) ...Meanwhile, I'm backing out of the room where this grouch was located, and looking at the other people in line who also appeared to be surprised by his demeanor. Seriously, Micro Center, this is how you treat customers? Maybe that man gets the same questions every day, or customers who don't want to pay for hit-and-miss repairs, but hey, it's his JOB to answer questions in a polite and professional manner, not to grill or intimidate the customer, and certainly not drive the customer away from this and any future spending there...along with an unflattering Yelp review such as this one. How about just a polite, "When you check with the technicians, they will probably want to run diagnostics first to help identify the problem." As they should And don't lecture your customers. I sure hope the Store Manager ("not available" when I was there) isn't directing this person to act in this manner. Scary if so. I have a Computer Science degree, not that it matters because that doesn't mean I know everything about computers. However, the staff should not assume that everyone is stupid and talk down to them. And how could us silly little females know anything about them thar computers? Silly, but that's the way I felt. I did see ONE female employee in the place, and she appeared to be doing inventory. Computers are no longer just a man's world...Micro Center, get with the program! Hire some women! And get those surly men some customer service training. As a business owner, I can't afford to get such a response from a business that I wanted to support. And as a recent Chief Information Officer (CIO) of a large organization, if anyone on my team was providing anything but positive and professional service to our customers, they'd be gone. Go to micro center if you want to buy parts in store for okay online prices. Do your research before coming, don't ask them. The employees are obviously based off of commission and will push the most expensive part to you. They won't tell you the downsides of certain parts if it will end up giving them more money. If you are well informed, ignore for the most part the advice of the employees, and decide what to get before coming, then the place is great. Otherwise, buyer beware! Pros: Online price at brick and mortar store (for the most part) Cons: Employees give skewed advice based off of commission, not a good incentive program if you're going to micro center for advice. read more

DECEPTIVE SALESMANSHIP, DEFECTIVE PRODUCTS. Save yourself the time and frustration and STAY FAR AWAY from this place. I went to Microcenter to purchase a Toshiba laptop in the $500-600 range. It was sold out, so the associate went into the inventory database to see what was available for a similar cost. He found a MacBook Pro 13" for $899, which I thought that although out of my price range was worth the price. I was told it was "Open Box," and that the previous owner purchased and returned the product within the same day. The associate brought out the laptop and demonstrated its abilities to my friend and me. Everything looked great, until the display went slightly snowy. When I asked what it was doing, the associate said he was powering it down, and that's what the laptop does at power-down. He had told me he was a MacBook owner himself, so I trusted him, thinking back on my own HP laptop display which turns black and white when shutting down. We asked about warranties and I was told by the associate that it still had its 365 day warranty and 90 day free Apple phone support. I bought the product. Fast forward to about 11:00 that night when I finally have time to play with my new laptop. I discover that the display was in fact malfunctioning at the store earlier when the associate said it was just powering down. Looking through the box it came in, I found the previous owner's sales receipt. It had been purchased, then returned for being defective. The box had, on the bottom, a sticker from when it was sent to be repaired after the last purchase/return. Obviously, it was not checked after being serviced before it made it back to the floor. At 7:30am the next day I e-mailed one of the managers who had greeted me at checkout earlier in the day to inform him of the defective product. I did not receive a reply. I called in the afternoon, never once spoke with an associate and was immediately placed on hold for ten minutes. I hung up and called Apple, who set me up with an appointment with an Apple Genius. At the Apple store, the serial number for the laptop was scanned. Imagine my surprise when I was told that I was not the second, but the third owner, and the laptop was already registered. Imagine my anger when I was told that no, I did not have the full 365 day warranty I was promised. Imagine how much angrier I was when I was told that the 90 day free Apple phone support period expired in the next coming weeks. Apple promised to price match the Microcenter lemon laptop if I returned it to Microcenter and purchased the same model through Apple. Needless to say, I drove immediately to Microcenter and returned the laptop. I purchased my MacBook Pro 13" that I am composing this review on at Apple for the same price as Microcenter charged. Only now, I have the 365 day warranty, the 90 free Apple phone support, and I am the first and only owner. I was not scammed by Apple, I was not lied to, and the laptop is not defective. They also set up the laptop so I was ready to use it when I got it home. Guess where I'm sending all my friends and family in the future? That, Microcenter, is what real service is. What I experienced at Microcenter was not service of any kind. I was lied to and deceived, I was scammed. I have to imagine that the first two owners also returned the laptop for the same reason I did. I was so put off by this experience that I have informed my friends and family about my experience. It's entirely plausible that we three customers have gone to our networks of friends and family and told them about our experience, and not to shop at Microcenter. That's a lot of potential customers to lose, all because of a lack of business ethics and professionalism on the part of one employee. I received a full refund, and the associate that helped me with the return process possessed the patience of a saint. I was in the worst mood when I showed up, and he kept his calm. This associate was by far the best at doing his job at that store. I really hope that laptop is not back on the floor at Microcenter. read more

I tried to use their repair service and was told by the tech thst my entire computer was ruined. I asked her what tests she had done and she said none as it was an "environmental hazard" but that she had had more experienced techs eyeball it. She then recommended that I buy a completely new pc (using parts from them obviously) due to the parts being "unreliable" even if they worked for a while. I'm not a computer genius but I am literate and have worked on computers in the past and only used their service to confirm my suspicions and they couldn't even provide that. I will NEVER use their repair service or in fact spend a single dime in their store again and will recommend to my friends that they do the same. These people are complete scam artists, and not even smart enough to make up believable lies. read more

I go to this place for anything that involves my computer. I recently moved and needed a wireless router as well as a flash drive and some other things I won't bother getting into, mistakenly I stopped by Best Buy (what can I say, it was closest to my apartment...) hoping to find something. After walking around Best Buy for 20 minutes and not being able to find half the things I needed- and having multiple salespeople ignore me, I left. I headed over to Micro Center and found everything I needed (at a cheaper price) in less than ten minutes. I go here for things that I could really pick up anywhere else- 50 blank CDs for 5? And I just got a 4GB flash for 12?. If there's anything you can find at Best Buy/Circuit City/etc., stop by this place instead. And if you're planning on using geek squad or some other places techies, checking this place out might save you some frustration. read more

Just left this place and never plan to return. Waited in line for exactly 1 hour to pick up a repair. There was 1 employee servicing a line that steadily grew from 5 to 15 people, taking 10-15 minutes per person. The poor employee was working hard and was extremely polite but not even once did a manager swing by to check in and provide support. Extremely poor management. A pick up that should have taken no more than 20mins ended up taking 3 times that. Never again. read more

My two stars are very generous. Mostly because the staff was nice to me. I made an appointment here for my MacBook pro after I got the terrible gray screen with the folder and question mark and wanted to get it checked out immediately. The guy who helped me convinced me that they would be better able to help me with figuring out what's wrong versus going to apple and having them run diagnostics. Long story short, I should have went to apple from the beginning. Micro Center told me what was wrong with my laptop, but I decided that I could fix it on my own. I went to go buy the part that they would have fixed for me for $47 and as it turned out, I did not even need that piece at all. I only needed to spend $15 for the CORRECT piece and they were going to charge me about $400 to fix something that was not even broken. If you have a MacBook or an Apple product, do an early walk-in with Apple to have them run diagnostics FOR FREE!! AND with you in front of them so you can see what is wrong too. If you are capable, you can probably buy the pieces and fix it on your own for way cheaper. I wish I could get my bench fee and my fee to have things backed up to an external hard drive back because they honestly did not help me. P.S. Micro Center should implement a policy where they show you the diagnostics report on a piece of paper for your reference. Can't believe all I had to go through to get my Macbook fixed and it was all so simple. read more

Mixed feelings. They have all the stuff you need, especially if you're a DIYer. It's the one place I prefer buying computer parts and peripherals at over amazon. But the customer service is atrocious. Today in fact I was waiting on the extraordinary long checkout line and asked an associate just hanging out in the section I was waiting in for information and the associate told me to go find a manager. While I was waiting on line. Seriously? He wanted me to jump out of line to find a manager to ask a question that the associate who wasn't doing anything couldn't go ask or find? And where would I find this supposed to manager? It was like a joke. It was the sales of go F yourself. The checkout lines themselves are part of the problem. They are extraordinarily long for no reason. There are exchange and return counters with loads of associates who could easily check customers out when there is a backlog at the normal registers. Why they don't do anything to manage crowds or long lines makes no sense. Essentially, they don't care. That's the attitude you get from the associates. This is unfortunate as well because they really do sell a lot of good stuff (and a lot of junk) and the prices are reasonably similar to what you'll find online, also good. I received a computer for Christmas and a couple of months later I started having technical issues. I came to the service desk, which worked very quickly to resolve a long line of customers before me, and they gave me a replacement very similar to the one I brought it. The fact that they asked me if the make and model of the replacement mattered really stuck out for me because I'm picky with size and brand. But, then that one broke as well -new puppies, new problems- and they offered me store credit which I used to buy my next laptop. The customer service was definitely on point here! read more

Micro Center is the last man standing of large computer sales and service retail establishments after the demise of CompUSA. A walk into this place is like a walk back to a time in the 1990's when you went to a store to buy your computer components and peripherals. This is a geeks paradise for hobby computing. Need a new heat sink? They got it. Need a new motherboard? Ditto! They have also a robust service staff and an Apple store-in-a-store that harkens back to the scrappy Apple Computer Company of the 1980's than the current hip chic Apple Electronics Boutique you find in the malls today. Micro Center is not exactly a user friendly store for the computer illiterate, but there is a non-pushy sales staff available to guide you to what you may be looking for. Love this place and recommend to anyone looking for anything computer related. read more

Built my PC and later saw that I needed an bios update for my motherboard in order for my processor to work with my motherboard. I called customer support and asked if they could simply provide a comparable processor so I could update my bios. They told me to call AMD or pay 70$ for them to do it. I shouldn't have to pay a 70$ fee for them to fix something so simple and that they marketed as a bundle. The guy on the phone didn't seem interested and wasn't helpful at all. read more

I purchased a HP Refurbished Computer from them and they told me that all original HP components were used and the computer was brought back to factory specifications. My SSD HD failed and when I removed it I determined that they did not use an original HP drive. HP was willing to replace the drive if the original one failed, but since the drive in my computer was not a HP, I could not do this. I purchased a new drive from Micro Center and have been trying to get them to issue some sort of credit. Customer service keeps telling me they are busy and management needs to review this. I have been waiting for a while, with no response. I feel that they misrepresented the product, and now they are refusing to respond. Very poor customer service read more

This is my goto store; when it comes to needing to fix a machine or build a new one from scratch. The employees do work on commission here but don't let that put you off. The prices here are reasonable compared to Amazon prices. They also have an excellent printer selection here. read more
