Called to ask manager a question about using a coupon that arrived in my mailbox already expired. Customer service person said they would send a message to the manager to call me back. Ended up calling twice, and the manager never returned my phone call. Place was great when it first opened, but now it's a disaster. And now it gets a -10 for customer service too... I love the prices - I once got a laptop backpack for ten bucks and it last five years of heavy use. I love micro center for their deals and gadgets. But their staff id not very friendly.. a bunch of nerd pricks if you ask me. I get it, you know everything.. thats why I asked you which one of these webcams are better. "They are all pretty much the same" is not a sufficient answer. Have some integrity... That pretty much means you don't know is what I got from it. I ask if the megapixel ratings are pretty accurate. He says "that means for still camera shots". That's not what I asked... ok walk away, I'll just throw a dart and if it sucks I'll take it back and create more work for everybody. Disclaimer: I've been shopping at Micro Center since it's opened (about five trips a year). On my last (and final) trip, my intention was to purchase a gift card. I couldn't find them, so I asked an employee. He directed me towards the 'Online Orders / Pick up' location on the side of the store which featured a variety of Micro Center gift cards. The gift card rack was on the counter, so I waited in line for about 15 minutes before being helped. The associate realized that I was purchasing a gift card. At that point, I was told that their computer systems were "acting up," even though the previous customers in line had no issues with their orders. The associate then instructed me to wait in the main line at the front of the store, which had at least 30 people. I told the associate that another employee advised me to purchase the gift card at the 'Online Orders / Pick up' location. I was told that gift cards can't be purchased there. If that's true, why would an employee direct me to that location? Why would you have a gift card rack on the counter? I walked out without purchasing anything. I never write reviews, but this experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I refuse to return until they make their check-out process more efficient. Go for the discounts. Do not use the repair service. I've bought several items at this store. And will continue to. Here's the thing. Do your homework. Know what you need. Do the price comparisons. Go in, make your purchase and leave. Be happy. Don't expect knowledge or good recommendations that you can trust. Because I've been dealing with the same software and hardware requirements for years, I know exactly what I need. And the few times I've tried talking shop with any of the sales people there. They had no flipping clue. A PC guy tried selling me on an off brand graphics card that was way under the power I needed. The Mac guy had no idea how add RAM to an iMac. (easiest thing ever). Regarding the repair service. I purchased a factory refurbished iMac. I did so in the middle of the worst winter in years. Admittedly not great conditions for a computer to be sitting on a UPS truck. So after a few days, it wouldn't boot. I know enough about these things to know that there is a bad cap on the motherboard or the power supply is crapping out. Since MicroCenter is closer and less of a pain than the Somerset Purgatory, and happens to be a certified Apple repair shop..... I thought I'd give it a go. After having my computer for 4 days and not being able to get any information from them over the phone, I dropped in to get some answers. It turned out their 1 and only certified Apple Tech was on vacation. So my computer had not been touched, with the exception of someone running software tests on it. Ok, here is the thing. I told them it was hardware related and exactly what to do. So why no call...or email....or updates on the "service" web portal? And why lie to me over the phone and tell me that they needed to research the issue? Save the headache and get your repairs done somewhere else. read more

For the longest time I absolutely despised everything about this place. I'd walk in and break out into hives, but later came to realize it was because I was walking in with my then boyfriend, and going into a place like this is like bringing a 5 year old to chuck e cheese. I don't like that it's almost always packed and that if you need to return something you have to wait 45 minutes in a line of irrational people that don't understand the return policies. I've ordered products online for in-store pick-up and had to wait in line almost an hour to get it. However, it was the holiday season so there wasn't much else I could expect. The place overwhelms me every time I walk in, but good lord their prices are amazing and they have IT ALL. The fact that you can order something online and go to the store and pick it up is a great service, even if you have to wait in a long line. It sure beats sweeping through the aisles in hopes of finding what you need, only to find one left in a beat up box. When I come to think about it, the environment that causes my brain to spontaneously combust is no different than Best Buy around the holidays, but the difference is the prices and the selection of products. This place is good for cheap deals on miscellaneous things, and they usually have really good deals on computers and laptops and computer parts. But here's a few things they WON'T tell you (But I will) -If you buy a laptop, and open the box, it's 10%+ off if you try return it. It doesn't matter if you used it or not. Open box - they take your money. -Don't be pressured into buying computer programs like NORTON or WINDOWS OFFICE. You can download free antivirus programs and Openoffice at ninite.com. -If you buy an insurance policy, they will fix your laptop, but the cost of the fixing is discounted from the worth of the laptop, so when you get a problem that costs them too much to fix and they have to give you a gift card, the GC is the amount you bought the computer for MINUS the cost of however many times you had to trade it in to fix it. Example: you fixed a 400$ laptop twice, and it cost them 60$ each time. One day, the laptop costs 300$ to fix. Not worth it, so they give you a gift card. The GC will be for $280, not the total value like they "imply" when trying to sell you an insurance plan. If it weren't for these "quirks", I'd give them 5 stars. Staff is friendly, and like I said before, great deals on stuff all the time! Especially on ACER products. And don't be afraid to buy refurbished! There's usually (almost all the time) NOTHING wrong with them! If there is, it's only cosmetic. read more

I recently collected all of the components for a complete custom-build PC. Choices included ordering from Amazon (my standard) or NewEgg, or other similar source, but chose Micro Center because (1) they are local (like to support local economy and jobs) and (2) they match any price from elsewhere. They assigned someone to answer questions and help gather parts - Jaimie. She was OUTSTANDING! She understood my conflicting goals - to build a PC that is cutting-edge capable for video-editing, yet super-quiet so it isn't a distraction for podcast and voice-over recordings. She never attempted to up-sell me, despite many opportunities! She simply worked to meet my goals, searching for components that were at least as capable as the items on my shopping list, often at a better price than expected, and she was careful to search for incompatibilities or mismatches. Best of all: Jaimie was very knowledgeable and familiar with all of the required components - most impressive in the context of rapidly-evolving world of CPU's, RAM, GPU's, air-cooling, liquid-cooling, etc. Result: my new build came in a couple hundred $ below what I expected, due to wise choices by my sales assistant, as well as MicroCenter's discounts for those purchasing both CPU and motherboard and other combinations. Granted, my experience may have been unique, but it was great! The 4 out of 5 star ding is because their selection of computer cases was slanted toward gaming, bling, showy cases, and they did not carry any of the "silent" cases for quiet builds. Alas, I was forced to order that from Amazon. My only reco is to visit on a week-day, first thing after opening: MicroCenter is just too busy during peak hours for me. For transparency: I have no financial or other relationship with MicroCenter or their personnel; I'm simply a satisfied customer. On 1/23/19 I purchased a HP Pavillion x360 and Microsoft Office program Fro $741.98....and a HP DeskJet 3755 bluetooth printer, ink for this printer and dual ink pack for my Canon printer and a pack of paper for $165.11. I have called HP tech support everyday since 1/24/19 because my new laptop continues to drop the internet. I have 2 other laptops, a tablet and I stream my on TV. HP did resets, checked bios and drivers. I did a rest with my ISP. It continues to drop as often as every 5 minutes. When speaking to a printer/scanner tech it dropped 4 in a 15 minute call. He said don't suffer any longer. You need to replace the laptop. I agreed that I had waited because I didn't want to reload all of my files. It became apparent that I no choice, so I texted Micro Center and they said the would only replace my laptop within 15 days. I spent $907.09 with Micro Center...THIS TIME. Last time it was a defective DELL. Their response to me was "I'm sorry you feel that way. We'll be happy yo take alook, but you're welcome to do whatever you feel is necessary". I stood in line for two cashiers for about 45 minutes, while two other 'stoner looking' employees smoked cig while the cashier's were obviously drowning, in the end I ended up just putting my things down and leaving. We have purchased over 100 computers and well over 200 monitors between their Michigan store and the On-line store. I never had a problem and that is why i continue to go back. The store manager always greets me with a smile as we always purchase Powerspec units. I will be going in next week to buy my first Drone and am looking forward to visiting the store once again. If you really need some hardware that you can't get from Best Buy, and don't want to wait for Amazon or Newegg, go to micro center. It's massive and has just about everything you need for gaming PCs - not just components, but accessories like thermal paste, custom cables, etc. Pricing is also competitive. Additionally, you can return stuff free of charge, whereas going through Amazon incurs a $9 fee (for Macomb County residents). The staff here expect that most customers are tech savvy and know what they want, so no one bothers me when I'm walking around. read more

First of all ... what's with this place being crammed wall-to-wall with people every single day from the time the doors open? Seriously, it's like Black Friday every day at this store. A techie friend of mine says that he feels like a kid in a candy store whenever he walks in. I feel more like a kid whose mom lost him in a Russian bookstore. Somewhat panicky and not understanding all of the weird products around me. I mean, don't get me wrong, the TV section or the laptop section are fine ... albeit saturated with people who know way too much about the inner-workings of the machines ... but at least I know what I'm looking at. You ever want to feel inferior to a 7-year old in intelligence, I recommend walking toward the back of the store where there's a section of what appears to be the remains of an explosion of the Star Trek space ship ... what was that thing called? The Enterprise? Yep, it looks like the ol' Enterprise turned itself inside out and just erupted ... vacating it's innards of every wiry-looking device it contained. I was there a couple of weeks ago and needed a motherboard for my desktop ... and I walked back to the Enterprise area and felt compelled to act like I knew exactly what I was looking at. Rubbing my chin, nodding my head with that "Hmm, I think this part will do the trick" look on my face. All the while I was actually just wondering ... shouldn't there just be a bin or a shelf labeled "Motherboards" with a bunch of motherboards on display. I think I nearly left with a memory card, although I'm still not sure. I ended up just setting it down and meandering my way through the 7 million other shoppers and leaving. Anyway, enough exposure of my computer ignorance ... actually, this store does have every electronic device and part known to mankind so if you're a techie, then I guess this is your candy store. However, if you are not as electronic-savvy as that sector of the population, then you'd better ask for assistance because this place could just as easily feel like a Russian bookstore. My advice is to do your homework too ... research whatever item it is you intend to purchase before going in blind. The computer I bought from Micro-Center lasted exactly 2 years. I saved $45 more than I expected looking at the site from a mobo and cpu (highly recommend getting cpu and mobo there since they have a discount for getting both). Even got a surprise rebate at the register. The awful: Some guy approached me and asked me if I needed anything. All I said was I'm picking up a cpu and 30 mins later he's trying to sell me half the store. I wouldn't ever talk to the staff there again. Not helpful and annoyed me. This store may be a technology hub but the customer service is pretty bad! I visited last nite around 7pm and had to wait in a line that had about 70 people in it. There were 10 check out registers and only 2 of them opened. No one seemed to care!!! It was worse than any TJ Maxx line and they can be pretty horrible, if you have shopped there! Further, the sales people are plentiful but seem to talk more among themselves than to the customer. I'm not a big fan of Best Buy but it does appear more customer focused than this "techno-confusion joint!" It appears from reading other reviews price and quality is the attraction with micro center. I suppose I will return but only if my need is urgent. For now i' ll stick with Amazon which offers competitive pricing, broad selection and great customer service. read more

I had pre-ordered parts to help make my kids a budget Mackintosh computer on Amazon. I saw in a comment section someone mention Micro-Center, which I regularly visited in Columbus, Ohio when I lived there. I didn't realize the Micro Center here was actually only 30 minutes away (for some reason I thought it was much further). I checked out their website and saw that they not only had the one part I could not get in time on Amazon in stock, but the price was actually appreciably better. So I re-ordered everything from Micro Center. I came into the store with my 3 kids (ages 4, 7 and 10) and my order list. But there was a case I had ruled out on Amazon because of price to see if I would want to upgrade to it later. I was approached by a polite salesman named Jimmy Yousif to ask if I needed any help. I was pretty smug about already having done my research and shopping beforehand and told him "no" and he said if I needed anything just to find him. I started looking around and realized I was not as prepared as I should be so I found Jimmy and he happily came over to answer my questions. I first explained my power supply (something I am ignorant on) and he very quickly steered me to a unit he recommended that seemed quite a bit better than what I had picked out (and I confirmed that when the amazon order came in!). He then asked me a few questions about my system and let me know about in store rebates and manufacturer combo rebates that I was clueless on, not only that he was able to locate the motherboard I wanted that was not online. By the end of our conversation Jimmy had successfully upgraded my system to a very nice mid range system compared to the budget system I had planned on, and he did it for less than the budget system I was looking at! I saved enough money that I decided I could justify purchasing the case I really wanted originally that I had on my order form (and I am really glad I did after looking at the one I ordered!). I had placed the case in my online shopping cart because there was only 1 of the white cases (which I wanted) left and I wanted to be sure to be able to get it. I was extremely impressed with Jimmies professionalism, knowledge and thoroughness in helping me with very basic questions. The only problem I had was when it came time to check out my kids were getting really tired and so it was not until after I had finished paying for everything and checking to make sure I had all of the rebates in order that I realized the clerk had never rung up my case. I was still at the register and said I had preordered the case online and she just chuckled and showed me their paperwork and which had $0 next to the case and told me they must not have been able to find it. What? Not finding the case is one thing, but not mentioning it while I am paying for everything with three kids running around? That is just not cool. I could easily have gotten home before I realized that was not in all of the bags. Fortunately the system still showed one in stock, so I found Jimmy and after a bit of a search he was able to find the exact one I was looking for. Great Experience. Caveats: This place looks like it can be really crowded, and there was definitely a line at the returns area. Just go in with that mind set and remember you are not shopping at some boutique shop in Somerset and your experience will be better. Yes getting a few more people on checkout and especially returns would be an excellent idea. But with more bodies comes more salary and an increase in prices. For these great values (seriously they beat Amazon on the price of everything except my computer memory, and that was only a $5 difference) it's worth putting up with a bit of slowness. I go here only when I have to have something that Nevatech (next door) doesn't have. In the past I have tired of hearing sales say, "that's not my department" or, just recently, "Here's what you are looking for. Looks like you will have to buy 2 packages - one for nuts and one for bolts". I have to wonder if that isn't something they do on purpose to up their sales - not have things combined for an easy customer experience. Their lines are long and it is not an easy store to navigate. I would only buy pop, mice or key boards here. I've had bad service with my computer and laptop. It took three guys just to diagnose my laptop recently. They gave me a recalled motherboard, the wrong service plan, I've been going here since they first opened. The costumer service, is unfriendly, and today it was just awful. The guy we asked a question to,was a egotistic, pompest pig, who thought he was rights. He yelled to the cashier to "get them the hell out of here quickly." I'd be better off at best buy, for my next purchase. They accused, my daughter of sticking a twig in her laptop, just so they didn't need to repair it. They tried to demand me to buy a new computer, If I decide to repair, this refurbished piece of crap, I will go to nevahtech, right by the pod drop and across the street from micro center, wher I know I will get quick, great, friendly service. And I won't have a quick motherboard failure. Edited: After posting to yelp, not even ten minutes after, the manager Greg Moore called and was more then helpful. He found the employee in the wrong and tried to make everything in my computer right, within his power. Since he couldn't he gave us options of a discounted price, or a refund of the unusable service warranty which wasn't much. Thank God, an alternative to Newegg. After ordering from Newegg several times and getting shafted on shipping, I really needed an alternative for my PC building needs. Yes, the atmosphere is packed and sometimes getting customer service is a choir but the selection and prices are undeniable. I've read in other reviews that they overcharge for PC services, well..I can't say I have pity for anyone who won't take the 2 minutes to Google "How to install a video card" to find out it takes 5 minutes to install themselves. My friend has had massive issues with Dell for a motherboard replacement. Plus, the video card fan might be going too. So we looked into a new Dell, and I was thinking that this could happen again since Dell uses proprietary parts. I do not have time to research and build a PC for a friend. I looked for some stores, search engines seemed to pull up repair shops and used computer stores only. I suggested we go to Micro Center. I almost forgot about them because they are in Madison Heights, and that is far away due to slow traffic and lights to get there. The miles to get there is not bad. We walked in and was not impressed with the Dell's and Gateway's. The store brand that has standard parts was not powerful enough. So, we wanted to see what the difference was between the Intel Quad-Core i7 970 and the previous one. He pointed us to the CPU / Motherboard counter. We went and talked to Derek. I asked him is it possible to help us build one and I will build it. He said sure. Before you know it, 3 hours later (One hour eating diner while parts were supposed to be pulled), my friend had a computer that would have cost-ed $2,228 (Still not quite as good as the one we built) on Dell as they jack up prices on higher end video, memory and hard drive upgrades. This one was $1,900. Derek was, very helpful and friendly. Since these were retail parts does not seem like this is commissioned. My friend got a great video editing system, that Derek said would last 6-8 years (of course with some upgrades over the years.) Some options, like OpenGL 3.0, and other options that are not used fully yet, so this is why this pc will last so many years. If a part breaks, there are other options. My friend only needs to get the same or newer part. Most parts come with a 3-6 year warranty. But, my friend bought the 2 year extended warranty. This allowed for getting the part replaced in store on the same day instead of up to two weeks from what Derek said. Since he needs his computer for school, and later for jobs, and would need fast replacement. Derek sure knew what he was talking about and pateint and very kind. My friend decided to have it built in store since I could not promise (due to family issue) to build it by then, so he paid them to do that. The prices on other stuff was better than Best Buy and other stores, and the prices are near what you would pay on line. Well worth the gas and paying tax to go there. Also, the return policy is more than fair. I purchased a TrendNet 5 port 10/100/1000 switch for $44.99. I was gonna get a Linksys for $30, I did not want 1 gigabit due to cost, but this once claimed up to 70% less power consumption, and that was the main reason and also the 1 gigabit. I got a low end Creative Audigy SE for $30. The $60 was better, but the Media Center computer is not gonna last too many more years due to new tech, so I got the lower one and a 25 foot cat5e for $18. To my surprise the switch has a $10 mail-in warranty, which I did not see marked. I was really happy. I also bought a SATA Docking Station for my business. This allows me to plug it into my USB port, and if a computer has bad hardware, I can get the data off of the hard drive. This was $55 dollars. A bit more than the one I ordered off of buy.com for $32 with free S&H. It has a eSata connector also. Buy.com now has a 15 day return after it ships policy. The part ships out 1-2 days after and 7-9 days after with free shipping. After I changed it to free it said something about having to wait 3 more days (cause free shipping was just as fast as the next option and they now hold back items now I guess.) making it impossible to return. I guess, I will not be buying from buy.com any more. But, I sure will be going to Micro Center again. Oh, and another surprise, this had a $10 rebate also!!! WOW I save $20 without knowing it. Oh, and my friend can price match all his componenets with retail stores and MicroCenter itself. for 30 days after purchase. read more

A decent computer store. They seem to have a good selection of low end software and hardware. Prices are reasonable. GREAT prices on house brand flash drives. If you know what you want or need this is a great place. The staff is hit or miss on the computer knowledge. All have some knowledge but there seems to be a wide bredth of ability in the, Some are casually knowledgeable about the most common things, while others are guru-level knowledgeable. The prices are ok, really they are busy because they are really the only place to buy most of the stuff for computers beyond the basic best buy fare. online prices are far better. service is some of the worst i have ever seen outsider of 3 people. the only reason they get 2 stars instead of one is because of the three said people. every time i go here (which is many times a week) i have some problem, last time they gave me the wrong hard drive for my internet order and charge it wrong too, good thing they got the SN right or i would have been sol,l however my time to take it back was wasted. time and again the sales people have misled customers of mine. time and again i am spoken to rudely and just not treated right. frankly if another big store opened up i would go there instead. if you have the time go online, their service is far better read more
