I used to shop at Micro Center occasionally and was happy with my experiences with products and services. I haven't really been in the market for electronics products for many years because what I already have keeps working and I don't typically replace something that is working with a newer one just because I can. But recent developments with respect to my nine-year-old (they do exist, and running Windows7) laptop have brought me back to Micro Center. I feel a bit like a technological Rip Van Winkle (you kids can just Google it) because I learned that PCs no longer have CD/DVD drives or HDMI ports. Since I still get material to review on CDs and DVDs for my consulting business, I still must have that capability. So I came into Micro Center on the hunt for accessories for my new PC. For now I found a USB Hub that gives me extra ports and another one that includes an HDMI connection. Being an Engineer, I need to do some more homework before I can get a CD/DVD external drive. But the staff I talked with were very helpful and even spent time explaining and pointing out options for me. read more

Went here today to get a 49 inch monitor for my husband. They are super helpful and knowledgeable. They even honored my price match I found. They helped me to my car as you can imagine a monitor this size I definitely needed assistance and even navigated it into my small car which I appreciated. This store literally has any computer part you can think of or would need. Glad there are many associates available to help out and that they are wearing masks with the pandemic. read more

I hate going to this store, and I actively avoid it. It is not just the worst microcenter I've ever seen, but the worst electronics store, including what passes for a website. Even Frys in Las Vegas, which was just a warehouse and over half of its inventory nothing but junk, was better organized before its demise. a The store parking lot is full of potholes that could double as tank traps, and bringing this up to the employees or floor managers results in jokes about it and blaming corporate. The Store itself resembles a dollar tree upon entering. A dollar tree manned by one person with boxes and boxes of goods piled everywhere, 1/4 of the store crammed full of bullshit that belongs there or on Amazon. It always stinks, and questions about why or how often they steam the carpets are met with jokes and corporate blaming. The website is never accurate, and questions about its inventory count always result in the same: jokes and corporate blaming. Good luck calling since they delisted their phone number from Google to avoid answering the phone. I asked why, when their inventory management is poor and people have to drive a long distance to get here? Response: more jokes and corporate blaming. Like another person here, I had to call corporate to get them to do their jobs and stop yelling, "We have 700 computers back here to fix!" This came about because, for some strange reason, I thought I would take them up on their "Build a computer within 4 hours of closing" guarantee to get a gift for a friend. The tech department's response was... guess. Just guess what their response was. Naturally, I didn't laugh and called corporate to complain about the unprofessionalism, inability to manage work, and refusal to honor their own policies. Then, I purchased a pre-built from Maingear for the gift instead. A handful of the salesmen are okay. The rest are typical phone gazers who make no effort to seek customers' help and know very little. Thus, you have to politely tell them you'll do it yourself to avoid having the box read to you by another suited monkey or dragged to a computer so they can Google it. My last upgrades were sourced from Best Buy, Amazon, and Newegg, and I could have gotten almost the parts from this Microcenter. I chose not to because I'd rather go to Walmart at 2 am than deal with this sad excuse for a business. read more

I've been trying to return something I purchased here. My purchase experience was negative as all sales people ignored me - even I called out to ask for assistance. Upon my fifth trip to return the item, there is finally NO line wrapped around the outside of the building for entry. I get inside and ask where the return desk is and I'm told I have to get in the regular checkout line. I look and it's wrapped across front of the store and halfway to the back of the store. The thing that I do not like about this store is they have no phone. I live 2 hours away and it's important for me to be able to ask quick questions before I commit to a 4-Hour round trip. Once you get to the store you'll find it extremely well stocked with just about anything computer related. I visited four times, and each time I was happy to find how knowledgeable and helpful all the employees are. My last visit went exceptionally well. An employee saw me wandering and ask if I needed help. I was looking for a refurbished laser printer. It was not on the floor. He said this is not my department but let me see if I can find it. He went in a back room said he found it and asked if I wanted him to bring it out. I did and he did. It was very large and very heavy but he came carrying it out on his shoulder and put it in my cart. I was a little concerned about buying a refurbished unit but when I got it home it was in perfect shape. I assume it was probably a return that someone changed their mind about. It was a very good price. Very happy with the service, the product and the price. I still do not like the fact that I cannot ask a quick question over the phone. I love Microcenter! I've known about them for years, and always heard good things about them and their prices. This is how a computer store should be. Being that its the only one in the state, its jammin! I have purchased several things here over the years, including my laptop, my most expensive purchase through them. The sales people here really are true tech nerds, and I mean that in a very good way. I always have a million questions, and they are able to answer them all. Staff is extremely knowledgeable and really walked me through all of my purchases, both big and small. I don't have a problem with getting electronics at places like Best Buy, or other similar shops, but I prefer Micro Center because they make the process easy. They specialize in all kinds of stuff, not just laptops and all the "hot" items on the market today. They have gaming systems, serious hardware for anyone and all sorts of deals. Their prices are quite reasonable too. I plan on returning here in the future. The only reason why I don't give them 5 stars is for a few small reasons that stick out in my mind. For example, the parking lot here doesn't seem to have a lot of spaces, and fills up quickly. Due to their popularity, lines can be long at times. Nothing terrible, but they can jam up but the staff works hard to do their best. I will continue to shop here, as the staff really knows their stuff. Go check them out. In one word my experience here is - WOW! I have never been here before but was recommended by a friend to stop in since I was in the market for a laptop and this place does NOT disappoint. The pricing is excellent cheaper then their competitors and their warranties are also fantastic because it covers some things that most do not like spills or user error occurrences like dropping it on the ground ect. Been here a few times to get some technology that I wasn't too familiar with and didn't do too much research prior to purchasing. Each time, an employee sensed my struggle and came to my aid to assist me and didn't try to up-sell to me. Items in the store are properly priced. Seemingly no Covid safety measures at all. There was 140 people in the store when I went there (I know that because a manager I spoke with pointed to the number on a screen and claimed that it was okay) - both the normal line and the internet pickup line were wrapped around the store with little to no social distancing even possible let alone encouraged by any staff. This store and the management in charge are putting everyone in a dangerous situation. It is their responsibility to keep everyone safe, and they are failing. EDIT: Down to 1-star instead of 2. I don't know what Micro Center as a company is doing but there is no way to contact the store by phone. If you try really hard, you can find a number online that goes straight to their main corporate number, not the individual store. I wanted to see if I could curbside pickup my order instead of going into this store again physically. No way to do that, no way to talk to anyone about it. My less than 2 year old dell laptop- took an extended break. All efforts of mine to revive it didn't work. Made an appointment for repair. The appointment didn't matter, everyone waited in the same line. Service technician checked it out, was told it was a windows corruption. $100 quick fix. Was told I could wait for 45 minutes for repair. Soo confused , I had other appointments- asked about next day pick up - was told it probably wouldn't be done then - really?..... was basically ready next day - only a 10 minute wait. read more

This was my first time at the Micro Center in Madison Heights, MI and the whole experience was a pleasure. I had done my research prior to going to the store and my computer parts choices didn't require many corrections. The build took longer than estimated but not outrageously so. The build itself was wonderfully done. I agree with the people who are critical about being able to reach them easily. The floor staff were friendly and offered their help. So many items I would have liked to check out. My experience went very well so I can't say that the people who have had negative interactions were an anomaly. I've had better customer service from insurance companies. These guys absolutely botch the online order I did. I ordered a couple things on Saturday 11/30/24, Never got any email letting me know they were out of stock, even though the website said the stuff was in stock. Had to find a ride down to Madison heights, only to be informed that they were out of stock and to get lost. I wasn't the only customer that was told this. So I went and looked in the actual Isles to find they did have it in stock. When I went to get an associate to pull said items, I was greeted by one of their team member's That very rudely blew me off as he didn't care. The attitude was absolutely not needed. I proceeded to bring it to a managers attention and was promptly blown off by the guy. I understand how hectic and crazy it is right now, however that's no excuse for that behavior. I am a store manager, if any of my employees treated customers how I was treated, they would have been looking for another job that moment. The treatment I received is absolutely unacceptable in any professional business. UPDATE, Tried contacting their corporate office only to get blown off about the behavior of their employees. Another disappointing experience. HP 255 G4 15.6" Laptop Computer - I looked up this model online and it showed one left at the Madison Heights store. I traveled to the store, only to be told that there were none left, even after looking up the inventory online in the store and still finding one listed. The salesman talked me in to an 'open box' unit of the same model. I took the laptop home and it fired up as expected. It was just right for my use. Unfortunately, I found that even when sitting within 6 feet of my wireless router, I could barely pick up a WiFi signal. As in the past, I had to waste my time on a return trip and take the laptop back for a refund. Over the years, I have purchased 4 or 5 defective laptops from MicroCenter, either refurbished or open box. In retrospect, I can not recall the last time I purchased a good, working, refurbished or open box laptop from MicroCenter. Rather than checking each returned unit, they simply take the defective unit, do a factory reset, re-box it, and sell it to the next unsuspecting customer. * Buyer beware when it comes to any refurbished or open box unit from MicroCenter! On the bright side, if you purchase a good laptop, they generally have good prices. Of course, there is always the obligatory up sell for extended warranty and such. No matter what you buy, they will offer to sell an extended warranty. By the way, I received an email invitation to write a review on their website, but after reading the legal disclaimers, where they basically say that they can take my review and edit it in any way to suit their needs, I chose to use Yelp to review the product. read more

Normally when we come here my boyfriend finds it hard to talk to anyone because they don't know as much as him since he researches for HOURS before coming to look at anything in person. Our current TV burned up so after hours of researching we decided to come buy a TV from here and we were greeted by Matt T who was extremely knowledgeable. My boyfriend was so thrilled that he could talk to someone who knows as much as him if not more. Matt also informed us that they have a deal for 4 months interest free credit card which we ended up getting! While checking out we had a small issue and he just happened to check on us to make sure we were all set. Matt was able to help us out with the issue and get it figured out. Wow, I miss actual computer stores from the day! I actually forgot how much I missed them until Micro Center came around. It has a good selection of most everything needed to build your own system or to mod existing ones, whether you're a gamer looking boost your stats (if that's still a thing this week) or a more serious user. For those looking for packaged systems from the old standbys, they have a good selection of those, too - whether it's tablets, phones, laptops, or desktops (for those of us still commuting to an office by dinosaur). They offer a decent selection of most accessories, except for an admittedly lacking software department for those who still want to deal with software they can hold in their hands - no really, kids, software used to always come in a box! Ewwww. They also have a decent hobby section (drones now crowding out RC planes, boats, and the like). They have a few televisions and smart home stuff, too. Yes, everything you can get here, you can also get online somewhere without the brick and mortar locations. So, why do I like it? Microcenter needs to update their website. Rare video card that is impossible to get shows up on their website as limited availability (I should have known better). I try calling and can't get through, the website claims their inventory is updated on site every ten minutes. I drive a 1/2 hour to get there, then wait in a half hour covid line to get in. I walk up to the area where the card is supposed to be and the guy instantly informs me the card is sold out, they haven't had any in a while and don't know when they will get more in the future. I am not happy. First get your site updated, or have a phone number that works and finally failing all that put a sign outside your store so I dont wait in a freaking line. Moments after I walked away they did the same song and dance for another customer, get your stuff traight and you don't have to explain this to someone else every 5 minutes. read more

This is the best computer/technology store in Michigan. I'm here just about every week either for myself or to pick up equipment for work. If a part exists, Micro center probably carries it. Micro center isn't just for parts either, they also have a large selection of TVs, monitors, laptops, prebuilt PCs, smartphones, smartwatches, smart home devices, networking equipment, and other accessories. The staff is super helpful in helping you find what you need, even if you aren't sure what you're looking for. They are actually knowledgeable and aren't just salesman/cashiers you might find at other major stores. Their website is also great at helping you find specific item locations, with the current stock and aisle number for every product in the store. I basically shop here for anything that uses electricity now, they have everything I've ever needed and then some. read more

Micro Center is THE place to go for your PC Building/ Hobby electronics needs. I built 2 PCs using parts I've bought here, and the store and its staff make the experience super easy and cost effective if you know how to shop the sales. PC Building is a hobby where the journey is part of the fun, and Micro Center makes it fun to look for sales and build the PC over time. Keep an eye out for their motherboard/ CPU combo deals especially, it's a great time to get crazy savings on that combo. The staff who work the PC parts section know their stuff and can be super helpful when directing you to make your purchases and make sure they fulfill your needs. Buying components for hobby electronics here is also a breeze and much much more satisfying than waiting for a while for your online purchases to arrive. I've bought components for Arduino projects and Raspberry Pi projects here, and the staff is helpful but not too intrusive in that department as they know most people who are in that space tend to know what they're looking for. It seems the sales staff do work for commission on the products they help you with, so don't be surprised if you get them trying to put their stickers on the products they helped you pick out. It's not really a big deal/ hinderance, but a quirk that's somewhat unique to this story in today's shopping environment. That said, Micro Center can be a godsend when you're looking for specific parts immediately, and their sales are unbeatable. The organization at this store is insane and laughable. While waiting for the less than capable gentleman behind the counter to find my items the manager came up to ask how everything was going. Not well, I told her, not well at all. She brushed off my concern and told me they were doing as best as they could. I will not be back.
