Absolutely scammers. I went in for free X-rays after hitting my tooth walking into something in the dark. They used scare tactics (purposefully discussing my scans in front of me to make them seem like there's a big issue) and flat out lied to me in hopes I would have services done that I didn't need. They tried to tell me I had an infection at the root of my tooth, which is not possible and makes no sense. The skin/gums were not broken and when I asked them how bacteria could have gotten in to cause an infection. They said "well a lot of blood pooled there." I asked how I can get an infection from my own blood. They had no explanation because YOU CAN'T. They also told me I needed 1-2 root canals and multiple fillings that I did not need. I got a backup opinion from a trusted dentist and an endodontist and my teeth were completely fine. After all of this, they sent me unsolicited Scientology materials in the mail twice. Now I've gotten a call from Studio Smiles saying they took it over. Hopefully they are fixing it and it's not the same owners rebranding to escape the bad reviews. read more

Do not come in for a morning appointment. I had a 10:30am appointment for right when they open. No one called me to tell me they were running late to open. I'm pregnant and was standing outside without seating for over 20 minutes and no curiosity call. They also didn't have parking available so I had to park on Redondo Blvd and walk over. Once they opened the door no one apologized for the late open and acting like nothing was wrong. This must be normal procedure for them not to be mindful of appointment times and be late. I am going to be reporting this practice to my insurance. They have been harassing me ever since I went to get a second opinion by a dentist that I actually looked up on yelp. Do not trust the google reviews on this practice! This practice said I had 11 cavities and had an infection on my gums. When I went to get a second opinion (where I actually had to wait 2 weeks to see the dentist and the dentist had wayyy better reviews on yelp) he said I only had 1 cavity and no gum disease. Mid city dentist was trying to charge me over 1500 dollars for really unnecessary dental work! They wanted to inject my gums with antibiotics and make me stop breastfeeding. Turned out I did not need the expensive antibiotic shots! They actually sent me this letter in the mail claiming I saw them days ago when I saw them months ago. Which I consider harassment by them shoving their fear tactics to get me to get expensive unnecessary dental work. They are a crooked practice that I noticed had a lot of Spanish speaking Latino patients that probably don't look at reviews. I know my immigrant parents don't use yelp and I sure there's more vulnerable Latinos like them being scammed by this practice. read more

This review is long overdue. I was looking for a good dentist to get my teeth in better health. My niece was working at mid-city dental and referred me. My first visit to the office was great, front staff was very welcoming. I saw Dr. Mercado for a full mouth exam which I had a full set of X-rays taken and a cleaning. Dr. Mercado created a treatment plan which he and the treatment coordinator went over with me. She offered me a payment plan with CareCredit which worked out perfectly. On the day of my treatment appointment Dr. Taha was the dentist who treated me. She was so good with explaining the procedure and letting me know what was next. She was gentle with the numbing part. The whole appointment was very comfortable I didn't feel anxiety which I always feel when in the dental chair. On my next appointment which was a delivery of my permanent crowns. My crowns looked great!!! The anatomy and color of the crowns matched my permanent teeth perfectly. Dr. Taha was great with color matching my crowns. I am so happy with Dr. Taha and her work. I can finally say I have found my dentist and I can finally stop hopping from one dental office to another due to my bad experiences. Thank you Dr. Taha, Dr. Mercado and staff! FYI... I had a dental cleaning today with Malika the Hygienist, she was awesome. She was very gentle when using the cavitron since I'm very sensitive on some teeth. Vert unprofessional, also charging the patient and the insurance as well for the same procedure, they been also working on a root canel, for over 2 month, my son still in pain, with infection, they keep prescribing antibiotics, over and over, they also use very poor quality material, crowns keep falling off, i also overheard, other patients complaint as well, the Manager Flor, has failed to provide their license number, under which they are registered with the Dental Board, she doesn't returns calls, and have done nothing to fix the issue, that is why i reported with The Dental Board of California. Went there for a basic teeth cleaning. Got a flyer in the mail so I thought I'd take them up on it. Everybody all smiles and very nice taking my insurance information. Very kind wait room staff. Was assisted to the dental chair and a very nice lady starts taking xrays. Got this done and very nice and charismatic owner/dentist status discussing some of the problems with my teeth based on the xrays. I do not like dentists and have not seen a dentist in a very long time. Explain to him I've not had any pain, bleeding or issues regarding my teeth and don't plan on having alot of cosmetic and procedures done. He says he wants more preventative measures taken now so as to not have problems down the road. I explain to him I've known people that once they started treatments and procedures they have spent "half their life in a dental chair". I assure him I'm not doing that. He agrees and ushers in the hygienist. She is very nice. She says my gums look pretty ago and all in all not so bad. They take me to the waiting room and say it will take about 30 minutes to formulate a plan for the future. I'm sorta suspicious at This point cause the original reason for visiting the dentist is a teeth cleaning. As stated earlier I received a flyer in the mail for a cleaning and visit special they had going for 49.99. This was explained to the wait staff and always the understanding Atleast on my end. So, I'm ushered into an office and a nice lady has a paper with all the recommended procedures etc. I needed. I understand they have to make money And owning a business and operating it is very expensive. She explains to me what my insurance would pay and the deductible etc. The visit and xrays were covered completely by the insurance. Great. Went south from there when she starts saying I needed all these cosmetic procedures that I never wanted. The dentist knew all this. She then says I need 20 antibiotic seeds implanted into the bone which cost 1600 out of pocket. I explain to her all I wanted was a cleaning and she says that's not possible , because seeds had to be placed along with the cleaning. I told her I could not pay that and that's when the high pressure tactics started about my dire dental future and her demeanor changed from nice to not so nice. Granted, I've never ever had any tooth pain, bleeding gums, or nerve pain. I explain to her I'm not having any of the expensive work done and just wanted a cleaning. She says that's not possible without the nearly 2000 dollar antibiotics. I've purchased plenty of antibiotics with and without insurance and none have ever cost that much. I spent over 2.5 hours here and all I wanted was a teeth cleaning inspired from a 49.99 special they sent out in the mail. I explained to the front desk/wait staff all this and the dentist and never even got to get a cleaning done. This place is out for big money. They have signs all over the dental office saying their main thing is "preventative care". Well, if a good deep clean from a dental practice is not the first step in "preventative care" I don't know what is. Forgot to update this earlier this year, but I stopped going here because I just couldn't take anymore how they didn't schedule my appointments well. They'd schedule me for a certain time and on FOUR occasions told me when I got there that they made a mistake and that actually my appointment was at a later time. It's frustrating because I would change my my work schedule to make sure that I'd make it to my appointment on time making it pointless because they would tell me it actually wasn't for another three hours even though they'd call a day before to confirm my appointment time. I'd also like to point out even though this is probably no longer relevant, but right in the middle of the pandemic is when I was still going and one of the employees at reception would sit and get so uncomfortably close to me when talking to me. It's like social distancing didn't exist. There's a lot more reasons why I gave up going here and decided to go see a different dentist. But these were the first point was the last straw for me. It's upsetting because I used to love going here but soon the people at reception starring leaving and the change of management happening. All downhill for the service if you ask me. read more

Dirty office, scammers. Stay away!!! I went in for a cleaning. After I was done, they took me in a room with a "financial planner" (like I was buying a car???), to discuss all the work I need done. they wanted to take out 4 of my fillings and replace them with crowns with no actual evidence that they needed to be replaced. Mind you I went in for a cleaning, no pain or anything. These unnecessary crowns would've cost me $8000 had I said yes to all of them. I settled on saying yes to one of the crowns because I knew I needed at least one filling replaced. But they pressured me and made me feel guilty for trying to think about it and take time to decide. I only settled on the crown because I felt like I couldn't leave until I said yes. They trap you in this room and VERY aggressively try to sell you on a plan and make you pay on the spot IN ADVANCE. Anyways, I did agree to have 4 wisdom teeth removed and a crown plus a deep cleaning. I had to do multiple appointments. The appointment where I had to remove my wisdom teeth was an awful experience. I sat in a chair for 3 hours while they struggled to get one of my wisdom teeth out. It kept breaking off in pieces. No option to be put under either. Absolutely nerve wracking, having panic attacks the entire time because I could feel it at points. They would try and numb me up more, but the adrenaline from the local anesthetic gave me bad panic attacks! The deep cleaning? A joke. A $500 waste. They did my whole mouth in 15 minutes.... Deep cleanings are supposed to be done in two sessions. One side of the mouth at a time. 45 minutes on each side, minimum!!!! Also, Their equipment is old and disgusting. The techs put their gloves directly on the equipment and then stick their fingers in your mouth. The equipment isn't even wrapped in plastic like other dental offices. It's just in the open. I can add to the other one-star reviews. The people at this practice are misleading and charge for services that are not needed - they convince people they are and then charge them up for them. They have indicated they are in-network for Delta Dental, but when I checked the dentist and practice, neither appears in Delta Dental's network using the on-line search engine. Additionally, they claim they filed claims with Delta over a month ago, but those claims do not appear on Delta's member website. I called to discuss this with them and first talked to Evelyn, who had no idea how to answer me, and then with Belle... who eventually hung up on me when I explained to her that I would file an official complaint with the ADA and CDA if, after contacting Delta Dental directly by phone, I found that no claim had been filed. *Update - to make sure, I called Delta Dental and the dentist is in-network (listed under the dentist, not the practice - I searched both ways but could not find them either way). However, Delta Dental has not received a claim from them (which occurred over a month ago). read more

SCAM: Went here because I haven't seen a dentist since the pandemic and needed a cleaning! this place was right by my house and offered a new patient discount which included an exam, x-ray, and "light cleaning" I went to the office and everyone was really nice and helpful. I was taken to the exam room which looked like a refugee encampment it was so dirty and dingy, but whatever you get what you paid for. After the x-rays the dentist came and said I had no cavities but I needed a "Deep cleaning" the hygienist then gave me the "light cleaning" which basically consisted of brushing my teeth for me...thanks. I was then brought into the treatment plan room where I was told my gums were severely infected and I needed a deep scaling and antibiotic regime that cost $2700. I said I wanted a second opinion and another lady came rushing in saying that my teeth were going to fall out any minute and that if I didn't get this done right away I would lose all of my teeth... WOW. I quickly left and contemplated life without my teeth. I just went to a second periodontist today that my mother uses and she did the ACTUAL gum exam where they measure the gum pockets and test for infection. she said that my gums were perfectly normal and there were no signs of infection and that my teeth hygiene was actually really good! she did say that because I had not seen a dentist in years I would need just a through regular cleaning for $220. the appointment was way more expensive than this place but in the long run i ended up saving myself THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS Avoid this place if you can and go to a dentist that actually cares about your oral health instead of trying to scare you into a ridiculously expensive procedure. read more

I would leave Zero Stars if I could. I was a patient here for many years until 2019. This review is long overdue. These people here are scammers, they like to scam good people out of their money. I had root canals done here and I am suffering the effects from their horrible job to this day. My current dentist has been cleaning up all the mess they created. I have now decay under my two crowns they placed because they didn't do the job correctly and on top of that my current dentist told me I never even needed root canals and crowns that they did. It isn't a coincidence every time I came to Mid-City Dental I had a issues with my teeth, but at my current dentist, my teeth are perfectly healthy. They love taking you to a separate room like a car dealership and harassing you to sign off on work you need done without proof. They are lucky I was a teen when I was going their, now I know better. Also, my crown fell last year and I called these people and I was told they couldn't accept me anymore since they don't accept Medi-Cal anymore, they are a joke. I received a class 1 for my teeth after my discharge. This is my first dental appointment as a civilian and Dr. Mercado says I needed braces and had to pay +$300 for a deep cleaning. When I told him that I could not afford any of that and that I would rather get a basic cleaning (which my insurance covers) he refused to do a basic cleaning.
