I happened to be across the street at the car wash and decided to go into the farmers market for a bit to eat. Upon entering, I was drawn to the taco place with its vibrant colors and lively music. I ordered empanadas and chicken and shrimp tacos. The staff was super nice and prepared the food quickly. The tacos were super fresh and flavorful. I was happy with my choice to eat here and would recommend them to this stand in the market for authentic tacos.

Three things you need to know: 1) Everything is prepared to order with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. You're going to wait. It will be worth it. 2) Is $13 a lot for a breakfast burrito? Yes. Is it the size of a football and way better than any fast food burrito? Also yes. 3) Chef Pippa is the closest thing we have to a "celebrity chef" around here and everything I've tried on the menu is Food Network worthy.

Pricey and not worth the money for an inferior taco. I understand that the rent is expensive and the consumer ultimately pays, but these tacos should be evicted for their size and flavor. Meh. Never again.

Delicious and authentic Mexican food! The toppings available make it even better. Pickled onions, lime sour cream, salsa options. All fresh and handmade ingredients. The sopes was delicious and the sweet potato empanada did not disappoint. If you're ever in the area, it's worth stopping. You won't regret it!

They press their own massa to make and cook tortillas. They have their own machine and griddle to cook them All the topping and fillings are fresh cut or chopped there Lots of variety on the menu So delish I found it because of Yelp it's a small unpretentious shop in the farmers market that I have walked passed fifty times. This is going to be my lunch spot when I come to the market

Having gone here in the past and never reviewing, I'm so glad I tried again. I was previously unimpressed with their tacos, but after trying their empanadas and chilaquiles I have a newfound love for them. While the prices are a bit higher than your run of the mill, divey Mexican joint, you can tell they put a lot of quality ingredients and time into each dish. I was pleasantly surprised by the presentation and flavor in each of the dishes i had. Update: I got chilaquiles to go and was not entirely impressed with the quality. 1) it was way too watery which turned me off. 2) they need to offer some type of half portion for $6. I would be much more likely to buy often. It's way too much food for one person and this comes from someone who can eat A LOT. I ended up throwing a bunch away because there's no way I could reheat soggy chips and eggs. The flavor wasn't as good this time because all of the delicious sauce is on top (as I came to realize) so once I got through the top the rest was just an overwhelming amount of cheese (not something I ever thought I would say) .

This Mexican place located in West Shore Farmers Market has so many items on their menu. Tacos, nacho, empanadas, sopas, salsa- everything from their sauces to tacos are made from scratch- quality is just so fresh, ingredients used are good. Their fish tacos are the best - margination of the fish is perfect, very soft. Their chicken tacos were also fresh and good. also tried their nachos and salsa, beans and rice - everything was mild and is good blend of flavor and spice. I also ordered a takeout and they packed everything so well for me - all sauces, condiments separately. Their service is very friendly. Pippa the owner is absolutely wonderful, she will explain everything patiently and made suggestions and helped me decide what to get the first time. Will go back to try more.

Crumbling but tasty Beef quesadilla with condiments

I have recently discovered the joy that is Grubhub, and I have been exploring the local restaurants that deliver to downtown Harrisburg. My most recent order was from Midstate taco. I got a beef quesadilla. The tortilla was clearly housemaid, it was fresh tasting and thicker than I am used to a tortilla being, but it was disintegrating before I got it out of the box. My delivery came with multiple condiments, and of those, the best one was the lime creme fraiche. I was skeptical when I read that in the description, but it totally brought out the flavors of the beef and the beans in the quesadilla. While the quesadilla did fall apart, the cheese was creamy, the shredded cabbage gave it some much-needed texture, and the condiments and care of Packaging are enough that I will be trying this again for delivery in the future. Perhaps with another item.

01/2018 I think I'll have to give MID ST8 Taco in Lemoyne a second chance sometime. I had high hopes for it after positive reviews by word-of-mouth but my meal was just okay. I didn't like the corn tortillas, opting instead to only eat the taco filling. I think knowing what to order is very key here as is taking advantage of the toppings/condiments offered on the side of the bar. Staff is friendly. Conveniently located when stopping in the West Shore Farmer's Market with ample parking.

Mid St8 Taco at the West Shore Farmers Market provided me with the best explosion of flavor experience I have had during a meal in a long time. One bite in I knew these were no ordinary tacos. I had the braised beef soft tacos and a sweet corn soft taco. The freshness of the ingredients and the careful thought put into the creation of the layers of flavor became quickly evident. It makes it even better that ingredients are locally sourced and pretty much everything is made by the talented chef and her staff. I cannot wait to go back!

The location inside the farmer's market is challenging or nice, depending on your outlook. I'm told that Friday and Saturday when the farmer's market is open, it is impossible to get a seating spot. The only option is to do take out. I'm not sure if I want to do take out of tacos. The sauces will make them soggy. Hence, I and my colleagues decided to try them on a Tuesday, when the market is closed. We did find the seating :). If I have to make a restaurant my favorite, it needs to be open all days and should have plenty of seating or reservations for table. The food is freshly made after you place your order. The tacos tasted good. Fish taco was better than the chicken tacos. Chicken one was bland. I wish there was more fish and more chicken in each taco. Plenty of vegetables. I also would have preferred them little more spicy. They've kept sauces on the side. But spicy marination on the meat tastes different than adding sauce to the taco! I was surprised to find horchata on the menu. I've had better one in Brooklyn, NY, but this wasn't bad. It's near to home, so I will visit again.

Finally got around to trying out the often recommended Mid St8 Taco at the West Shore Farmers Market. I was underwhelmed by the two types of tacos we ordered (sweet potato puree and steak). They were both bland and required many add-on ingredients that are stored out on the counter. Ingredients tasted fresh, so I would give some additional tacos another chance if I return the the farmers market. However, based upon this visit I would say there are better tacos in the Harrisburg area.

This place started showing up in my social media feeds constantly. All day. Every day. Smoked meat?…read moreI'm listening. Smoked meat and homemade peanut butter pie? In the same building?! Immediate must-try status. I hatched a plan to visit on a chilly January Friday night, knowing they'd recently been selling out of items before their posted 7pm closing time. The target: 5:30pm. Risky enough to feel exciting, early enough to still secure smoked meat. A calculated move. Get Smok'd is located in a strip mall, and when I arrived, most of the front parking spots were full. Brief "oh no" moment...then I snagged a spot from someone pulling out and hustled inside. The dining room was much more spacious than it looked from outside, though many tables were already filled. I stepped up to the counter fully prepared--having studied both the menu and their social media all week in belly-growling anticipation. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with street corn and a fountain soda. Adventure Buddy went with the Lamb Gyro special, coleslaw, and a soda. Total for dinner came in around $40, which felt very reasonable for the amount of food. We timed it perfectly. About 10 minutes after we arrived, a large party of ~20 people walked in and filled a reserved table. More folks followed right behind them and suddenly the place was packed, buzzing, and running low on seats. Lamb Gyro: Fantastic. The smoke really came through on the lamb, and the tzatziki was super cucumber-forward, which Adventure Buddy loved. It was also a generous portion for the price--always appreciated. Street Corn: First off, the presentation was on point. The husk flared out like a little sunburst--very eye-catching. The cook on the corn was perfect, seasoning was just right, and the ear itself was a great size. Goldilocks corn. Coleslaw: This one missed the mark for us. The cabbage itself was fine, but the dressing was very bland and there was a lot of it--bordering on cold coleslaw soup territory. Not our thing, though it might work for some. Pulled Pork Sandwich: The pulled pork? Fabulous. Moist, juicy, perfectly smoky. I paired it with the Lawd That's Good traditional sweet sauce and ate every last bite of the meat. The roll, however, didn't live up to the pork--it felt like an odd mismatch. I skipped the bread and focused on the star of the show. Peanut Butter Pie: I...was not prepared. I did not expect a smoked meat joint to casually deliver one of the best peanut butter desserts I've had in a long time. This isn't a slice--this is a personal peanut butter pie. I'd guess 5-6 inches wide, about 1.5 inches thick, served in its own tin and piled high with whipped cream. This wasn't dessert--this was an entire second meal. At $10, it was worth every single penny, and I seriously debated ordering another. I will absolutely be back just for this pie. Overall, Get Smok'd BBQ earns a solid 5 stars from both me and Adventure Buddy. Friendly staff who checked in, meat smoked to perfection, and a peanut butter pie that completely stole the show. Good lawd! PRO TIP: If you're planning to visit later in the day, check Get Smok'd on social media first. They sell out. Early. Often. Don't waste a trip just to find locked doors and shattered BBQ dreams. This place is hot right now--and very much worth the visit if there's still smoked meat left to be had!

I had the double Patty smash burger with bacon and it was one of the best burgers I have had. There was also some homemade pickle Chips that were delicious. We split a PB pie. I hope they do coconut pie at some point. My only critique is the burger (all sandwiches) should come with potato chips. Or fries but I am thinking they don't have a fryer there. I didn't mind the price of the burger but the sides were too expensive for me to add. I just wanted something more with that burger. If that burger had Chips would be 5 stars. Highly recommend this place. I look forward to eating there again.

NIGHTMARE: What started as a promising partnership ended in outright disappointment. We found…read moreLittle's Catering (Chef Mark Little) through our venue's vendor list. In doing our research it was clear that Little's had very favorable reviews. We chose Mark after speaking with him. He came to our home and cooked a meal for us and our parents. Mark took notes while offering recommendations. Afterwards he said he would come back to our home for an additional tasting with the changes we made to the menu. Again, Mark cooked a great meal for my wife and I and discussed some other additions, such as the fact that now Mark would also be offering bartender services for our wedding. Things were going well to that point. A month before our wedding we started noticing change. Mark was less responsive and more stressed. For example, Mark posted a cryptic video on his social media page. He was teary-eyed, explaining that at the end of the year he would cease operations with the catering business to focus on his food truck operations. My wife reached out asking if things were OK. He claimed they were. Fast forward to 10/10, the day before our wedding, and Mark explained he would be onsite to setup around 2:30p. By 4pm Mark was a no-show. All we had was a text stating "Be there in 20 min." On the morning of 10/11, I received a text from my fiance at about 10am stating Mark would be at the venue soon. Concerning because dinner was to start at 6pm. Mark did not show until 12:30p. He was clearly flustered and stressed. Immediately things unraveled. Our his/hers drinks at cocktail hour weren't being mixed or garnished. He didn't bring coolers and ice as he said he would for beverages. By dinner it was a total $hit-show. The dinner was unprepared. It took 2 hours to get 100 people of 130 served. 3 tables (30 people) went without food! We were mortified. We asked for 5 vegetarian meals weeks prior, and about 45 min into the dinner I took notice those guests did not have dinners. It was clear he forgot. Our venue notified us the next day they knew we would be having issues because shortly before the dinner they received a frantic email from Mark asking to rent their flatware. Sadly, Mark was to provide a set of flatware that we thought would've matched our wedding nicely, so we had to settle for something different. As time went on, several of our wedding party and family confronted Mark in the kitchen. He was not able to hold himself together, they report. Mark left the venue and his poor employees, some of whom were in tears, to fend for themselves. Mark was to serve chicken picatta. He served a piece of chicken with melted cheese. He provided charcuterie that did not contain meat, and for some reason, his staff came and took the cheese cubes off the trays and back to the kitchen. Were we served that melted over our chicken? He used a carton of half/half creamer that belonged personally to someone in our wedding party and used personal Tupperware of ours to transport the food. Not sanitary at all. The food was bland and not what he made during our tastings. All in all, this review is long because of the comedy of errors associated with Mark's total failure to meet his contractual obligations at the bare minimum. My wife and I are deeply disappointed in Little's and Mark. He failed us and his staff miserably. Do NOT use this caterer OR his food truck services (Little Chateau Food Truck). I spoke to Mark, and he acknowledged his failure while apologizing in tears. Thankfully, my wife and I were able to secure a refund by disputing the charges with our credit card company. I hope others who have been victimized by Mark are able to do the same. Lastly, our venue removed Little's from their list of vendors and stated he is not welcomed back to their facility. The outdoor space is enclosed and heated during cooler months and is a great open air spot when the weather warns up. Full bar, nice beer selection, and a decent wine selection for a place like this.

One thing to note is that there was an impressive amount of gluten free options on the menu which…read moreis something I look for. I ended up getting the Sirloin Filet on the hot rocks and thought it was amazing. The steak was a good size for the price, the mashed potatoes had so much flavor, and the vegetables were fresh and delicious! I also thought the selection of vegetables was different from your normal broccoli or asparagus with steak dinners. We ended the meal with their gluten free lava cake which was so good! Overall, we had a great experience for our first time visiting. Our server was great and very helpful. The place does get pretty smoky with all of the hot rocks so they had to open the door to air it out, so I would keep that in mind.

This little hole-in-the-wall sits on the backside of a rivertown, serving up old-school vibes and seriously good pizza. The dough and sauce are made in-house, and you can taste it -- crust was crisp yet airy, with a buttery richness and just enough chew to make each bite satisfying. Sauce had a bit of spice, cheese was bubbly, browned, and full of real-deal flavor (no sad, fake cheese here). Toppings? Plentiful and delicious. We came dangerously close to finishing the whole pie, stopping only two slices short. For drinks, my adventure buddy went classy with an Old Fashioned (good, but nothing to write home about -- and the bar's lack of Luxardo cherries made him sad), while I kept it real with a draft Miller Lite. The beer was cold and clean -- and honestly, from a hole-in-the-wall bar, that's something I appreciate. Bartender doubled as our waitress and handled it like a pro, even on a slow Monday night. The place is dark and cozy, decorated with lots of '50s-inspired artwork, and apparently has a rooftop bar -- sadly closed during our summer date night. The bill came to $42 for the pizza, two drinks, and a tip -- budget-friendly date night win. No on-site parking, but plenty of free curb spots out front or municipal lots a block away. Safe area for an after-dark stroll. If you're into unpretentious spots serving pizza that punches above its weight, Fratelli's is your jam.
