The estimate was written a bit confusingly to sum up the two repair options so the total cost looked very high, but in fact the cost included both repair options. I was getting gas and went to start my car and my battery was dead. I figured I would ask the gentleman at the front desk at Midas if he had a jump box I could use and he rolled his eyes and said "do you have ten dollars cash?" I replied yes, since I was trying to get my son to school and didn't have time to ask random citizens for a jump. I opened my hood and he then asked for the ten dollars and said "it's ten dollars no matter if it starts or not." I gave him the money and he jumped my car. If he would have kindly gave me a courtesy jump I would have came right back after dropping my son at school and gave them my business. Instead, I drove to another auto shop and had my battery replaced. Terrible customer service and not a great way to earn new customers. read more

Needed repairs & this was convenient location right off Rt66. Pulled into front as likely the manager was outside helping older gentleman. Great to see this kind of customer service as soon as you arrive. I walked-in, waited only for few seconds & "Matthew" from outside immediately addressed me. The older gentleman left while smiling, another good sign. Outside has plenty of parking & inside is well taken care of. My car made it into shop fast & repair was being taken care of however a major problem I wasn't aware of, was brought to my attention. This was possibly a life saver. Thank you Matthew & to the other mechanic because this could have resulted in a crash. Manager Matthew didn't try to sell any unwanted service but a sharp eye likely saved me $100's. Once we sorted out the details turns out price was more then reasonable and work is high quality! I have used another Midas on Glebe Rd with very good results. Now I have another I can rely on. Not sure but aftwr reading reviews I think the few negative comments are likely some previous employee. I think (because I asked) the manager said they took over in 2019 or 20. I usually come here once every year or two. I drive in from Chicago and usually figure it's a good place to get an oil change before I head back. Usually, it has been fine. Two years ago they made a big deal about needing a special more expensive filter for my new used car, but just last week they didn't say anything about it, and the oil change was cheap (caught them in a lie?) I requested an oil change and a tire rotation. WELL, somewhere in Maryland (en route to Chicago) I noticed some bizarre vibration and sounds, but I wrote it off thinking I was just imagining things... but as I continued it seemed to get worse. I knew something was wrong, so I pulled off to a small garage and told them what was wrong. I suspected it was the front left tire, and almost without looking they immediately saw that the lug nuts were loose. Sure enough they lifted the car up on a jack and the guy literally could rock the tire back and forth. "Five more miles and this thing woulda come right off" he said. I was pretty lucky I turned off when I did. After seeing some of the other comments, I definitely wonder how much of their "extra repair" or "bad work" is intentional . Seriously though, not tightening the lug nuts on a tire? That is incredibly dangerous and a stupid mistake to make. I definitely won't be coming here any more, luckily I live far enough away I won't have to. read more

Update: Bought a $20 tool to take off the entire tie rod assembly. If Chris really wanted to sell extra work, he could have told me that since the outer tie rod wouldn't budge, they would have to replace the entire assembly and sell and extra part and an hour of work. Save your time and money and stay away if Chris is working there. It took me less than 15 minutes to take the old part off and Chris had it for 8 hours. No fluid leaking from the steering assembly so that pretty much invalidates his theory. Outer ie rods move via ball joints, meaning they spin freely and cannot break the steering. Any car's steering is well bolted to the frame of the car by very big bolts, replacing a tie rod will not damage the system but then again, these jokers could probably manage to mess that up. You can see in the photos where they tried to spin the assembly by the bolt and chewed up the threading. No wonder they couldn't get it off. How come a regular dude in his garage can do the job these "professionals" can't? SAD! Looked at my control arms, they are all fine. Bushings are still good. Chris tried to tell me my alignment would be better if I replaced these parts. Your control arms are part of your suspension and have nothing to do with an alignment. My car is front toe only, meaning you can only adjust the alignment by the tie rods. Check out my other photos to validate everything I've posted before. Will also post pics soon of the brakes that were "metal on metal" but actually just needed to be replaced in the near future. If brakes need to be changed, then say "you could use a brake job soon" and not try to scare people that you think don't know better. Also, Chris left me a very long and strange voicemail after my previous review. Sounded unhinged and confused as to why he got called out for trying to rip someone off. What was really creepy was him saying "I just want to talk" about 5 or 6 times. He's probably not a mechanic himself and comes from a service manager background, meaning he gets paid commission to sell work. What a joke! If i ask for a tie rod, then sell the whole assembly and not something unrelated to the work I asked for! He couldn't even get that right! Check engine light was on in my van and the engine went into limp mode (wouldn't go over 5 mph). Matt told me it may be the throttle body assembly, and it turned out to be a fuse to the assembly. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE to do any break work, which is a shame because they are supposed to be break specialists. I brought my mustang in when I felt a slight rubbing in the rear breaks. They replaced the back rotors and pads and said they were able to "salvage" the front rotors. They also stuck me with an outrageous bill(over $1k) for that and flushing the fluids. I wasn't happy however if it needed to be done, then it did and I moved on. When I drove it out of there, my breaks were making the loudest, most irritating squealing at every stop which has never been a problem. I brought the car back and they told me it was now the front rotors. Okay, I see red flags now however, my mentality is that I just want my breaks to sound normal again so I paid another hefty sum to now replace the front rotors. Even after putting factory pads on all breaks, and replacing all rotors, my car's breaks still make a horrible sound when stopping. That didn't happen until I brought it to Midas. Just a few months after replacing those front rotors at Midas, One morning on the way to work, my front breaks were rubbing something terrible and I now decide to break the Midas cycle and take my car to a local garage that I trust to evaluate the problem. Guess what? They had to again replace the front rotors and said there was no way Midas put on new ones. So through American Express, I disputed the newest charge for Midas' work (lack there of) on my front rotors. After an investigation, AMEX ruled in my favor and refunded the money. Since then, the owner has been repeatedly calling, harassing and threatening me over the past month. I'm considering bringing the police into the matter. Please take my advice, Don't take your car here. read more

I've been going to this location for several years now, for oil changes and vehicle inspections. I had planned on continuing this, and probably using them for other services as well once my cars were out of warranty. However, after my latest experience, I won't be returning. I recently bought a used car out of state and took it to them this past weekend for the required inspection and emissions check. Since they were backed up, I left the car with them. When I returned to pick it up, it was raining and I had a small child with me, so I paid and quickly departed. I went straight home and the car didn't move until I went to work on Monday. In my parking lot at work, I noticed scratches running down the passenger side from the front door to the rear fender, with paint marks and a dent in the fender. So let's see. Left car at Midas in perfect condition. Damage noticed less than 48 hours later, the car not having been out of my sight since picking it up from them. I contacted them and what did the manager say? Pretty much, "Yeah, there's no way of knowing where that happened, and if we had done it we'd know it." He wouldn't even consider the possibility that one of his employees was responsible. I suppose it's my fault for not conducting a thorough inspection on the car when I picked it up, although I suspect even had I noticed and pointed it out then, they still would've claimed they didn't do it. I admit to seeing the previous reviews and being hesitant to offering them my business. However, after going to 3 local tire shops and being rejected in fear of damaging my rims, I gave them a shot. I owe Charlie and lead mechanic Ganbat a bit of gratitude as they took me in 2 hours prior to close on the Friday before Christmas, which I am grateful for as I had to get this done before my long trip home. The prices are fair and my experience was straightforward. I feel some of the other reviews are unfair and biased because they feel their prices are unfair. I am fairly handy and know how to work on cars myself and I felt their pricing was on par was I experienced at other shops. Most users want to weaponize Yelp reviews as leverage, because negative review cant really hurt their business if they don't get what they want. NEVER TAKE YOUR CAR TO THIS PLACE!! I recently took my SUV for an oil change here before going on a long road trip. But soon after I hit the road I got 'low oil level' sign. I thought there was something wrong with the sensor. However I later found out that there was only 1quart of engine oil (even though there wasn't any leaking) and moreover they forgot to put the bottom cover back on so the cover was dangling with only one screw! The long story follows, but the first thing I should say is GO HERE. According to lots of people I've spoken to since my experience, this location had years of poor management and maybe some bad business practices. That's not the case anymore. Go in, call, get an estimate, whatever. Just don't skip it because someone told you years ago they had a bad experience. I am confident that this shop has a bottom line, as any business does, but I'm more confident that their bottom line doesn't include screwing people over who may not know any better than what the mechanic tells them. Here's the longer story: Last week I woke up to a completely flat tire, put the spare on and decided I would just go to Merchant's on Lee Hwy in Arlington, as they had just put two tires on my car about 8 weeks ago, and while I definitely didn't want to repeat the experience (where I paid almost $800 for the two tires, it took about 7 hours, and I was treated like an idiot for needing tires... cars need tires, they need maintenance, because they are driven. They. Are. Cars.), I was in a bind as my job requires a whole lot of driving. For a multitude of reasons, primarily because there were no parking spaces and when I asked where I could park the response was an eye roll and a "uhhh I dunno, try the street". So off I went, heading to the dealership, decided to stop at the Exxon at Lee & Washington Blvd. for a bottle of water. Looked up as I was walking back to my car and saw the Midas, that's been there for years and years, yet I always forget it's there. On a whim I went in to get an estimate. First words weren't "oh you've got to replace them" it was "Well, we'll take a look and see. If it's a hole, then to patch the tire would be about $40, if it's more intensive than a simple patch it could be $60 or $70, or, because they're pretty close to needing replacement, you could put that money towards two new ones, which would cost significantly more" (I had planned to replace them in the near future anyway because when I had the two tires put on a couple months ago I knew the other two would need replacement soon.) Told him (the store manager, Charlie Brown) I wanted to go ahead and replace them. Estimate was about $300 cheaper than what Merchant's had charged, for the *identical* tires. He told me he would need to go get the second tire, and it might take a couple of hours, since I had the spare on already I could do whatever I needed to do, go home and nap, run errands, whatever, I should just avoid going over 45 mph on the spare tire. Went home, took a shower (I had a personal training session before going to Merchant's and then Midas- hence wanting to stop for a bottle of water!), less than an hour after I had left Midas, I got a call from Charlie saying that the tire they had was mounted and balanced and the second tire was there and whenever I wanted to come back the could get them on and I'd be on my way. I returned to the shop and there was a man with a trailer on his truck who was clearly having some real issues, and I heard Charlie on the phone to at least 3 different places asking if they could help with this particular trailer tow hitch situation, something about some piece being welded on and causing a problem they weren't equipped to deal with. Over and over again I heard him explain the situation and I think getting the same answer "so you need a tow truck?" which is apparently not what the owner of the trailer needed, yet each time Charlie patiently responded with something along the lines of "well, I was calling to see if you all did this type of work, no need for a tow truck, just this other thing" no matter he had already said it several times. It was striking. *I* was annoyed *for* him! Anyway, for better or worse, I tend to expect mechanics especially at larger chains, to take advantage of their customers, especially ones in dire need (like me! And this trailer owner!) and it was just really shocking and delightful to hear Charlie saying "we can't do this particular thing" instead of "well we can do this fix and it's going to cost a couple grand. you're out of options though it's not safe to drive this at all, you need to us to fix it for you immediately". HONESTY! It was a beautiful thing to witness. Anyway, about 30 minutes later I drove off with my new tires and a shop I would feel comfortable taking my car to for just about anything. A shop where I didn't feel like I had just been robbed, or misled, or manipulated in any way. As a 28 year old woman, that's been almost always been how I feel leaving any place related to cars. I look forward to returning for any of my maintenance needs, and I recommend everyone to give this place a chance. They'll change any preconceived notions you may have. read more

Noticed a huge nail in my tire, so I stopped in to see if they could plug it. The technician and manager (I think) immediately took a look and tested the area to see if there was air leaking. Nope... luckily nothing since the nail went in at an angle. The technician then proceeded to check the air in all of my tires to make sure I didn't need a refill. All looked good. In the end it cost me nothing. So I definitely appreciated their honesty, thoroughness, and ability to take a look at the vehicle so quickly. Would go here again! read more

I stopped at by Midas for my wife's Sienna 30k service in the afternoon. My wife had been driving with expired inspections stickers for the past 2 months. So we went ahead with the inspections which revealed that I needed tires so I ended up swapping 4 tires there as well. When it comes to my wife's car, I never budge on safety. Well, I ended up spending a little more than I had originally wanted (mostly on tires) but I must commend Midas for their service and work. The service manager Mark was very knowledgeable and very friendly. I hung out for half our until my wife came to pick me up and watched the mechanics at work. Very competent and helpful. I saw a lady with a slow leak tire who stopped by and the tech helped her by pumping air in the tire and told her that the dealership should cover it under warranty. He explained to her that the leak is slow enough that she should be fine to drive till tomorrow. She asked him how much and he told her it was free of charge. When I saw that, it made me feel like I made the right choice to service my car here. When my wife came to pick me up, the techs came to check out my car ( I drive a fancy sports car) and pointed out that my inspections was due this month and my emissions next month. So I ended up doing them as well. Well, all i have to say is that their price is very competitive and their service and quality of work was superb. I recommend. read more

I literally joined Yelp solely to rave about this Midas shop. I worked exclusively with Troy, who is fantastic. I am the type of person who walks into an auto mechanic practically asking to get screwed over: I know nothing about cars beyond how to add windshield wiper fluid (is that even what it's called?), and rely on the goodness of others to not overcharge me. After a month of increasingly loud vibrations when my car idled, I brought it here one morning before work. Troy called me back within a few hours and explained the bad news: some part of the engine mount had broken off, and since my car is a Saturn - which is now defunct - parts are hard to come by. Troy called a few places before finally locating the needed one at a local junkyard; it was $175, and he estimated that labor would cost around $400. I cringed, called my dad to ask for advice (don't judge me, I plan on doing this forever), and agreed to go ahead with it. Miracle of miracles, he called back shortly and said that one of the guys would be able to repair the part instead of replacing it. They completed the work that day, slapped on a new safety inspection sticker, and charged me HALF of the original estimate. DON'T TAKE YOUR CAR HERE! My usual car place was closed and I had used this place before, so when I got a flat tire, I brought it here. Within 5 minutes, they said I had to replace all 4 tires and struts, totaling $2000! I asked what was wrong with the flat tire and they couldn't tell me. I waited for my usual shop to open and in 5 minutes, my guy said there was a nail in the tire, nothing was wrong with my struts and he charged me $30. I can't believe it! I would echo everyone else's sentiments that the people here seem to do good work, but I would caution regarding prices. I needed a fair amount of brakework done on a getting older car, and their estimate seemed a little steep. I called around, got another estimate on the phone for $400 less than what Midas offered, and called Midas back, at which point they agreed to knock it down to (almost) match the other garage's price. When I came back to pick my car up (I had to call them back to see if it was done 36 hours later, when it likely could have been done as early as the previous afternoon, which was annoying) they said "Hey, all you had to do was ask" re: the lower price. They generally acted as if they had done me a huge favor by lowering their estimate by 33% to match a competitor. While I appreciate that they (almost) met the other garage's estimate, I found it insulting that if I had not checked around, they would have happily charged me $400 more than they needed to. They ended up doing the work at a reasonable price, but I shouldn't have had to ask. read more

This is more a question than a review. They did some work for me about a year ago and the guy I met with was helpful. The service was totally adequate. However, my wife took in her 1995 Honda. She bought a lifetime warranty muffler a few years back and the muffler was bad, according to the inspector at our regular shop. The guy at Midas she talked to gave her a very expensive estimate on the "free" muffler replacement saying that the middle pipe that connects to the muffler was shot and it was going to need to be replaced at a cost of around $800. She told him she needed a second opinion and took it back to our regular shop. Our guy there, who is totally BS free in terms of trying to upsell you, did the replacement on the CV boots that also failed inspection (at about half the price Midas quoted) and told her that the alleged shot pipe was just fine. She called Midas back and asked for an appointment, and the Midas guy called her back and said he'd take another look. She told him she wanted to watch the replacement because the trust level was zero. He called her back again and said that he no longer had the muffler he was offering her before. Said he'd call her back when he found one, but did not. This is the same guy who called her back five or six times in one day when he thought he had her on the hook for $900. This seems silly and dishonest because it's a Civic, a car that even though it's 1995 is still everywhere, they're like cockroaches. My question is whether these guys are trying to sell you pipes you don't need so they don't have to spend their time and money honoring the lifetime warranty muffler? Seems like a scam to me. Or at least less-than-respectable behavior. Anyone else had issues with these guys? Appreciate any help you can offer!! Will update the review depending on what Midas does. read more

DO NOT go here! They are crooks... I just moved nearby and took my car there for brake services due to convenience. They do appear to be friendly and knowledgeable, but after they recommended $1000 worth of brake system repair I got suspicious and took it to a friend's long time friend who is a reliable car mechanic for a 2nd opinon. My brake system is fine, a bit old but the front brakes at 50% and 75% in the rear. No need for any repair or danger of failing brakes as they claimed (scary tactics). read more

Stay away. I went to this place a couple of years ago to get my breaks checked out (I had taken a road trip for work and my car was slipping and slidding through the snow). They told me I needed to replace everything (break pads, fluid, etc.) and that the total cost would be $1,600. My wife found a highly recommended local mechanic from friends so I picked it up and brought my car there for a second opinion. He went over my breaks with a fine toothed comb and told me they were fine. It's been a couple of years and, surprise surprise, they are fine. In fact, it looks like the tires I had gotten shortly before that winter may have been the reason I had traction trouble in the snow. If you've got money you want to give away for free I'd go there, otherwise I'd recomend stearing clear of it. read more

I am writing to tell everyone that I had a muffler rot out on my 2006 Rav 4 and two weeks later I got a recall from Toyota for the muffler rotting out. So, Midas did a great job replacing the muffler, but, Toyota would not except the receipts after many tries. Charlie Brown, the store manager bent over backwards to help me receive my $$$ back from Toyota. Each time that we sent something into Toyota, they would review it , then reply that something was wrong. So, to make a long story short, Charlie has been excellent. He has sent them letters many times, hopefully this time it will work. Thank you Charlie for all your help, this Midas store cares about its customers. read more

COURTEOUS, HONEST, A BIT PRICEY. I brought my 1999 Subaru to Midas for a Virginia state inspection yesterday. I've been going to this place for years. The people have always been friendly, the waiting area in the office is comfortable, and the service has always been efficient. I'd never had a problem with an inspection before. This time, though, I was told there was a tear in a rack and pinion boot. It was advisable to have both boots removed and replaced, and then the wheel realigned. Junior, the owner, kindly had Jorge deliver me to my house and take the car back to the shop. Jorge was most pleasant and courteous. When Jorge returned for me and we got back to the station, I asked if I could see the discarded boots. No problem. He rummaged around in the trash and gave me the 2 old boots. One of them indeed was torn. I could not have asked for better nor more honest service. The reason that this rating is 4 stars rather than 5 is because the price might be on the high side. I paid $16 for the state safety inspection, $324.98 for the rack and pinion replacement, and $79.99 for the computerized wheel alignment. There was an additional charge of $10 for "Shop Supply" and a small sales tax. Total bill was $436.47. It would have been $456.47 but I had found a discount coupon worth $20 on the Midas web site. Out of curiosity, I went to my local Sunoco station and asked how much they would have charged. The breakdown was $16 for the inspection, $89.95 for the alignment, 2 Rack boots for $81.76 and labor at $178. Total: $365.71. read more

Charlie Brown is the store manager at this location. He was friendly, informative and a straightforward type of guy. I went in for a feeble brake engagement problem on my 2001 Golf TDI that I suspected was due to a fault on the power steering vacuum system. It turned out to be true but they also discovered that the rear brakes were in pretty terrible shape. They also found a loose and noisy rattling heat shield on the exhaust plus my rear tires failed to impress Charlie as they were 9 years old! I was quoted 900 bucks for the whole package but decided to bail on the tire replacements (too expensive from the off the shelf stock) and the heat shield repair (noisy but the whole car's getting rattly). This saved me around $300.00 so the brake job cost around 600.00 - I thought that this was fair and Charlie did not try to upsell me. Would recommend this location as being fair and reasonable. read more

I am a frequent customer at Midas and every scheduled appointment is on time, great customer service. I never have to worry about long wait times and bad help. When ever I have a question or if it's something I don't fully understand the young men help me out. Mr. Johnson provides great customer service when my schedule doesn't me the times they have available he also provides me with information that may be helpful for a long car life. I have never had a bad experience and I would highly recommend them to family and friends. I drive from Waldorf to Arlington VA so that should show how great this place is. This place is notorious for upselling. Needed to get my car inspected and was told it would cost 1200 dollars to address a check light engine. When I refused and stated I would take my business elsewhere Chris said he would get back to me, less than 5 minutes later the price was down to 400 dollars, for the same parts that he claimed I would have to spend 1200 dollars on to guarantee my driving safety after the auto repair.
