I was usually happy. Unlike the typical big chain auto shops, this guy always gave me honest estimates of what I needed for my car.

I brought my car to Maj a week ago for a rubbing noise in my brakes. On my way there, my check engine light came on. He took the car for a ride with me to hear the noise, put it up on the lift and showed me exactly what the issue was, taking the time to explain the problem, show me defective vs. new parts and answer all my questions. He also noticed little things, like the heat shield bolts rusting letting me know that I might hear rattling soon and my rear tires put on backwards, which he corrected for me. Then he ran the code for my check engine light and ran through the possibilities and what he would do. I'm sure I could have sat in his office and waited but he was more than happy to have me right there - the transparency was refreshing! I was probably there for 30-45 minutes asking questions and he didn't charge me! Then when it came time to get it fixed, he was flexible with my schedule since I was local. He kept me informed on each step and possible issues, giving me all the worst case scenarios to be prepared for which can be a little scary but makes you prepared for it! When I went to pick it up, Maj showed me what he did under the hood, showed me the faulty part - again the transparency was appreciated! And his rates are very reasonable! I 'fact checked' all the information he gave me all along with a knowledgeable friend and it checked out! Maj is the real deal, a rare find these days! I'll be a customer for as long as I'm in the area!

I had Brandon change inner and outer tie rods and had to bring it to Firestone for the alignment. Brandon had screwed up the torque and didn't use Loctite when installed. The rods had loosened. When Firestone opened it up it turns out one of the inner tie rods had not been changed! Brandon said it was a defective part and the coating had rusted out. (Highly unlikely.) He changed the part "under warranty" and I STUPIDLY had them change brake pads and rotors and flush the brake fluid. Going down a big hill the brakes didn't work properly and I went right into an intersection and nearly got creamed by a truck. HOLY SH*T! Furious I called Brandon and they bled the brakes. They hadn't gotten all the air out. But ZERO apology for almost causing my death. His promised to refund me the brake fluid flush over the phone and reneged in person. I had to threaten small claims court and he relented. AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!

I brought my 2010 Mini Cooper to Firestone Troy after the A/C suddenly stopped working and started blowing hot. I'd tried recharging it myself but got an overpressure reading, so I booked the soonest appointment I could. The staff were friendly and suggested adding dye during the recharge to check for leaks, which seemed reasonable. A few hours later, they let me know the compressor wasn't working and offered to run further diagnostics for an added cost. What caught me off guard was that they'd already completed the full evacuate and recharge -- even though the compressor wasn't engaging. I was told it had been necessary to identify the problem, but later realized that wasn't accurate. In the end, I paid $341 and left with no resolution. If the story ended there, this might have been a 1- or 2-star review -- so I encourage anyone who's had a less-than-ideal experience to follow up. In my case, given the chance, they absolutely made it right. I reached out to Firestone's corporate office via their website to share what happened. Since the service included a performance check, I felt the compressor issue should have been caught before moving forward with the recharge. Fortunately, my message was passed along to the right people, and TJ, the store manager in Troy, reached out to me directly. After I explained that I'd eventually traced the issue to a blown fuse, he gave it some thought and agreed a full refund made sense. I stopped by the shop later that day, and he credited my card on the spot. He also mentioned that he'd used the experience as a training opportunity for his team, which I really appreciated. Things don't always go perfectly -- but how a business responds matters. Thanks to Firestone corporate looping back to the branch, and TJ's professionalism and willingness to make it right, I left feeling heard and respected. I'd absolutely return and now feel good recommending Firestone Troy to others.

I addressed all of the above except the tires. I brought the vehicle in today for the tires and inspection. Suddenly my passenger rear caliper is seized, brake cable is cut and no shoes for the right rear brake as well as two snapped rear rotors. Nothing has ever happened to my vehicle like this before so why as soon as I bring my vehicle here did this happen? Nobody had ever cut anything out of my car and Leya was the mechanic. So what did she do with my caliper, brake shoes and brake cable? Why wasn't I made aware of these issues yesterday when I brought my vehicle in originally? Once I made it all the way home my right rear rotor which was replaced by Leya snapped again. Is this how Firestone operates? Scamming people trying to make them pay for things that were never wrong with the vehicle to begin with??! I'm a single mother and was waiting for my vehicle for 6 hours with my 18 month old. I feel my patience and kindness was taken for granted by the shop. I had my son waiting with me the entire time. I even brought the two broke rotors back to the store and swapped them out for new ones by taking Ubers. A complete waste of my time and money. I will never be returning to this location unless it's necessary for a refund. This is how you lose customers. I came in for an inspection and left with a broken vehicle.

I'd like to take time to share a story about the BEST service I have ever received ANYWHERE, at any…read morebusiness I have ever been to.   I live in San Diego, California.  My 23-year-old daughter lives in Boston, and was visiting Troy, NY. to attend to professional and personal business with a couple of girlfriends.   She drives a 2012 Honda CRV, and was using her car to travel on this occasion, and ran into some issues with the front bumper/undercarriage, which was causing some pieces to hang down and drag on the street.  By the time she saw what was happening, she was already in Troy, and far from home.  The car was close to immobile at this point, but she happened to be only about 2 miles (surface streets) from Rensselaer Honda.  After seeing the pictures, she sent me, I thought a nice slow drive could get her to the dealership without further damage, but the car would NOT have been able to be driven any further, let alone on the highway back to Boston.  Her reliable Honda CRV was down, and she was essentially stranded.   My daughter made a quick call to the Rensselaer Honda service department, but they did not have any appointment slots to get her in today.  This was very short notice on our part, and it was understandable that this was the case.  She also didn't really explain the gravity of the situation (being out of town); so they could not get her in immediately.   So, she called me.  As a Dad, especially with my kid being so far from home, you can imagine how worried and helpless I felt.  I decided to give them a call and explain the situation, and I am glad I did.   I spoke to Jason Foster, and started to explain the situation to him, and before I could finish, he told me as a Dad to a couple of daughters himself, he understood my concern and would take care of the whole situation.  Jason assured me he would get her squeezed in, and her car fixed so she could travel home safely.  I was told to have her come see him directly, and I had nothing to worry about.  He took down my number and promised me he would contact me with a 'Dad report' after the issue was fixed.   My daughter was a bit panicked and in tears by the time I called her back and told her to drive directly to the dealership and ask for Jason, which she did immediately.  She told me he was waiting for her, and got her car in right away, and promptly fixed the issue.  She texted me that he was super great, her car was back to normal, and she was on her way again.   As promised, Jason reached out to me, and he said everything was fixed and I had nothing to worry about.   I cannot thank him enough for not only providing the best service I have ever had, but also being a great person and empathizing with our situation.  This whole thing could've turned out to be much worse if she was not able to get back on the road again.   I'd like to reiterate here that I was just starting my west coast workday, and with one phone call, Jason and Rensselaer Honda saved the day.  My daughter was happy and, on her way, and Dad was relieved.  I can't thank Jason and his team enough for what he did today.  These are good people and what makes America an awesome place.  If I could take my own Honda all the way to NY the next time I need service, I would.   I just wanted to pass along this note of appreciation.  Thanks Jason and Rensselaer Honda!

Unfortunately, the experience reinforced every negative stereotype that we had about car dealerships. In the 45 minutes we were there, we were lied to (learned afterwards) about all sorts of things, large and small.
