Went to midas in September for an inspection and everything was fine. Went back 2 weeks ago for 2 tires and front end alignment and they told me that I needed motor mounts and lower control arms. Took it to my son's mechanic today and got the new tires and alignment, when I asked the mechanic if everything looked good underneath he said other than regular wear and tear and didn't see anything wrong with the motor mounts or lower control arms. This place is just a rip off. By the way I spoke to another customer of theirs and they did the same thing to him and then wanted to charge him another$700.00 . Buyer Beware!!!! read more

I have been going here for all my repairs for a few years now. Mike (manager) has a great sense of humor always communicates well about the repairs needed and what if anything should be done in the near future. I have never felt like i was being taking advantage of or that I was being lied to about services needing to be done. Your Safety is always first and their priority. Can get pretty busy at times so I would call ahead before showing up. Some of the other shop guys aren't as outgoing as Mike is but still some great service! Never had a complaint! read more

I was charged $950 to install a starter in my car only to have the starter go bad 3 days later. They clearly installed a defective part and overcharged me to do it. They also knew I lived far away so they would not have to deal with the consequences or have to deal with me using my "warranty" on the part (after having to pay to have it towed again to another Midas). I went in for a $21 inspection, and left with a $1350 bill. After "failing" an inspection they quoted me $1350 for a minor fix. A job my mechanic from my hometown said would cost me $700 max. Complete scam, they "ripped" my inspection off, like Im supposed to start crying for them to work on my car. Went a to local mechanic (Augies) and they did the job for $600. Midas provides you with the idea of convenience, then screw you out of your two week pay check. Find a local mechanic, not a multi-million dollar company scamming people with the idea of being in and out in minutes. My wife and I drove from NJ on route to our favorite Vermont destination. NY Thruway then make a right turn at Troy, NY. I heard a weird sound while on the Thruway. A few miles on Route 7 going through Troy we noticed a flat tire. While I was putting the spare tire/donut on I told my wife to call a local service station where we could get our flat repaired. She spoke to a nice guy at Midas who said sure bring it over. After about 20 minutes of waiting the Manager came out of the service area and said "you're all set!" I said how much do I owe you. He said nothing. We're just trying to help people. So I tipped the service technician and off we went. We vowed to pay it forward the first opportunity we get! Had an oil change in February. They did not refill the oil tank, engine started making a noise, timing chain rattling, it became stretched due to no oil. this was a newer car, no leaks, never burned oil ever. took it to a different mechanic and he confirmed there were no leaks and that it was not possible to burn through 4 liters of oil in a couple of weeks. Midas denied their negligence of course, blamed me saying the car burned through 4 liters of oil. Absolute scam operation. completely ruined my engine, had to buy a new car. read more

Was there today.. Got an inspection and everything was all set to go. When we left we were driving down the highway and our entire exhaust system fell off!! We called them and they said they'd take a look at it, we got there and it was instant aggression met with accusation on our end. He pulled out a paper saying it was documented that it was "rusted and hanging". Why would they pass an inspection on a car that had a hanging and rusted pipe?? Sounds like a set up to me!! Walked in to make an appointment for inspection and they too, me right away? Being an older car I expected the worst? It didn't happen. I had two items that needed attention before too long. This place swindled my wife and son. They claimed that a tie rod end was bad. Can't get an inspection with that. It will be $400 to fix. I found out after the work was started. I requested the bad part be brought home. It was fine. Overcharged for the part that was fine. Good lesson for my son with his first car. It had a good inspection sticker from another state. My 1998 Chevy truck popped a metal brake line. I drove it to Midas in Brunswick to have them look it over. They called me back and said it "wasn't that bad". I just needed a new front brake line BUT since both bleeder valves were "stuck", I would also need two new calipers and new pads. The total was $550! I asked them if they had tried heating the bleeders to get them open. Freeing a bleeder is the absolute most basic thing a brake shop will ever have to do. It's not rocket science folks. He said if they heated it any more they'd break them right off. I really felt that they were lying & trying to upsell me parts that I didn't need. Shame on them. I said NO to their over priced repairs and picked the truck up. They let me drive away with ZERO BRAKES! I used downshifting and the e-brake to get home. They should be ashamed of that. I then called around to price the calipers. They were only $30 each! The pads were $19. The brake line was $12. At the very most, the parts they said I needed cost $91. Midas wanted an additional $459 for an hour of LABOR?! That's F*ing crazy. The next day I called a mobile auto repair guy that I found on craigslist and told him the story. He said that Midas was probably trying to gouge me. He came over to my house and tried opening the bleeders valves. Both of them opened without any trouble. He didn't even have to heat them! So Midas was completely bullsh*tting me! The mobile repair guy fixed my truck in about hour for $12 in parts (just the 1 brake line) and $70 labor. I did not need new calipers or pads and my bleeders were not frozen! Midas ARE crooks! I realize Midas has to make a profit but gouging local folks (who trust them) by telling them they need parts they really don't need is criminal and very, very wrong. If Midas wants to keep their loyal customer base here in the Troy NY area, they need to stop screwing people over like this. They should be reported to the BBB and the attorney general office. read more

I had a failed inspection for rear brake pads being too old. I had changed them within a reasonable time to still be servicable but that's the inspector's opinion and I can live with that. My problem is that the kid at the front tried to sell me a brake inspection "because the failure could actually be the calipers but we cant know without an inspection" which is nonsense. He then told me they already scraped my existing sticker off so I needed to spend nearly $500 for new rear pads and rotors on a Honda minivan. That's double what they cost. Save your time and frustrations, this a brake store selling brakes and they are crooks! read more

Brought car to Midas to get new sensor when getting there mechanic got wrong sensor so I told him I'll bring it back .the next time I brought my car back mechanic had wrong sensor again so he told me noise in the rear end and we will make it stop that did not happen so I spent already $600 and mechanics still could not find the problem what was wrong with the sensor I would recommend go to a different mechanic these people do not know what they're doing! read more

It's been hard to find a good place for service, both routine and the more costly kind. We've tried about all our local Honda dealers and won't go back to the Troy or Bennington ones. The crew at this Midas has a solid understanding of cars and deals with us honestly and with good humor. Both of our Elements get their service here. We drop ship our tires from Tire Rack here for them to install. A sign of my confidence in their work is that I also bring my Olds muscle car here for just about anything. Took the car in for an oil change and repair of tires that were leaking air. Because I bought the tires at Midas, they not only repaired two of the leaks, rebalanced all four tires and rotated them for free. I was happy with the time spent making sure everything was working correctly. read more

I have heard anecdotal evidence that this establishment over charges for standard maintenance. An example given to me by a mechanic who has worked on cars after they were "serviced" as this Midas is illustrative. Midas charged $700 dollars for a $300 rear-disk brake job. Anecdotes are one thing. First hand experience is another. My Ex took her car in to this Midas to have its oil changed and to get an inspection. The oil change went fine. However, things went from curious to outright dishonest when it came to the inspection. Despite having no problems with the car when she arrived, the technician claimed that the "check engine" light turned on during the inspection and, that the car failed its emissions test. The car is only 3 years old and it is very unlikely that it would fail its emissions seeing how it is taken care of. When my Ex expressed suspicion, they started throwing excuses and deliberately confusing language at her -- recognizing she was not mechanically inclined. Sticking to her guns, she informed them that is was very suspicious that the car (which has never had its check engine light turn on) would suddenly do so, she spoke to the manager who informed her that, if the car's check engine light didn't turn on for a week and she returned and it passed emissions, she'd get her inspection sticker. They printed her inspection failure form, she paid, and the car wouldn't turn over! She went back inside and two mechanics went out. One sat in the car and the other fiddled under the hood. The car promptly started and she drove home. Insulted, she promptly went to next door neighbors' (two of whom are mechanics and one manages a major shop in the area). Upon inspection, it was quickly discovered that the air intake sensor had been disconnected and then reattached -- thereby resulting in the failed emissions test, check engine light, and failure of the car to start. It is the professional opinion of the professional mechanic/manager that the sensor had been deliberately disconnected. My Ex drove the car for a week without any problems or the check engine light turning on. She returned today to get her inspection sticker. Not surprisingly, the car passed emissions. Instead of giving her the sticker, Midas tried to charge her a second time for the inspection even though she had the paperwork from the failure. She had our daughter with her and I suspect that they were banking on her being too distracted by our pre-schooler to realize that she was being charged twice. Instead of paying, she stood up for herself and they kept trying to tell her that New York requires she pay again. They eventually realized they weren't going to be able to scam her and she got her inspection sticker. The final insult was when the store MANAGER told our 4 year old daughter that he was going to file harassment charges against her mother! Despicable is not the word I'd like to use but this is a family site. Do not take your business here. The are rude. They cheat people and lack the ethical conscience possessed by monkeys. read more

came in Midas 9/17/21 at 2:30 for an aliment and they said they had to keep my car overnight (which was fine) got my car the next day and when I put my wheels back on the tire was rubbing on the strut...manger mike told me the wheels were to big and wouldn't work and refused to redo the aliment even tho I had a 90 day warranty....took my car to Subaru and the Whole left side of the car was way out of spec...i had to pay another shop to fix what Midas refused to do even tho I paid for the service....and btw Subaru managed to do my aliment perfect with the wheels that were supposedly to big and would never fit....so be VERY CAREFUL coming here they don't really care about you or your car and I'm still fighting with the regional manger now for my refund even with proof of the service being done wrong so even the higher ups in the manger don't care and just want your money....I wish they let me post pictures so I could show you how back they really are read more
