I've never walked out of a mechanic shop before until today. I stopped by this Midas to drop off my son's car because the steering wheel is cockeyed going down the road and it clearly needs an alignment. I called ahead and simply wanted them to take a look. The front desk guy was decent and respectful over the phone initially. However...listen to this. When I get there Instead of writing up the car and checking it, the conversation somehow turned into an argument. The person at the counter started to ask about which direction the steering wheel was turned. I told him I honestly I have no idea. I know it's cockeyed and its out of alignment. A quick test drive would answer that. Then the supervisor came out of the office and escalated everything, arguing about why they needed that information. It was rude and weird. At that point I started wondering whether they were actually interested in repairing the car, or just arguing about it. When I said the whole point of bringing the car to a shop was for them to take a look and let me know, he leaned over to the other employee and said right in front of me... "Fine. Charge him for everything. $39.99 for an alignment diagnostic, $49.99 for a suspension check, and whatever other diagnostics we need." Whaaaa? It felt like he was trying to punish me for not knowing which direction the car pulled from the alignment issue, super irritating. So I grabbed my keys and left. I would have had no problem paying a diagnostic fee if it had been explained normally, but the supervisor's sarcastic and confrontational attitude made it clear this was going nowhere. I've dealt with plenty of repair shops over the years, and diagnosing an easy alignment issue usually starts with a quick test drive and not an argument. If a simple alignment conversation turns into an argument with management, imagine how an actual repair might go. I'm sorry this place blows. Don't go here!! read more

They Destroyed my car. They changed the fuel pump, overcharged me. The check engine light came on and STAYED ON because they screwed up the wiring. I'm a handy guy with the basics, so I picked up an air filter to change myself. Upon doing that I noticed I was missing a screw from their taking apart the housing for the up sell. I was not happy to say the least. I called the shop spoke to Willy and he questioned me, finally I told him to look for my screw, he called back to advise me they ordered one from the dealership because they couldn't find it, and they would call when it came in the next day when it came in. Needless to say they never called me, so I called them and the person that answered the phone questioned if I really needed, I insisted I did and would be right in to have it put in. Upon arriving I requested that they check the oil as the level on the dip stick was very low. When they checked it they questioned when I had the oil changed because it was so low, when I told the tech yesterday he was shocked and said he was not comfortable with the oil level . They added some oil but refused to add a full quart until I demanded they add the balance of the oil. This whole ordeal took three people to handle a simple situation. This is poor business, trust, and customer service! On top of paying for an extra quart of oil I did need or get. Had I not returned they would have robbed me of two quarts of oil. Shame on you Midas of Downers Grove. You have some nerve in this day and age of social media and reviews. I hope your scandalous way of doing business teaches you all a very valuable lesson. For the folks that read this, I would never think of bringing my vehicle there for anything! We have used this Midas store to service all of our three vehicles for many years and have never had a problem. They are very friendly and explained the service required rather than just saying we'll need to replace the brakes, they explained and showed us all that needed to be done and after this we understood the labor cost. We would recommend this Midas to anyone. All of our neighbors use this Midas shop and all are very satisfied and pleased. read more

Everything was fine until I spoke with Ivan. Other guy working here has always been so kind to me and always informing me of what was going on with my car, even being open to showing me prices for what would need to be fixed for my vehicle. I can't remember the other man's name but he told me that every other oil change is free so I call to double check if it will be my free oil change as I haven't taken my car in some time to get seen and Ivan was being so prideful and even arrogant when responding to my question. Telling me he opened my file and that all my oil changes I've paid for when I know for a fact one of my oil changes I did not pay for. The last time I was even being checked out my IVAN I asked him how much an alignment for my car would be and with an attitude he said he isn't aloud to show me a break down of prices when the other man showed me that same day! Leak on our vehicle, RaplacedTransmission lines and did a Transmission flush. Just under $900.cleaned us out but trusted all of them cuz we only go here (10yrs)he knows how we drive back & forth Iowa our kid school. I took my pick up to Midas here in Round Rock on May's st. To have 2 pulleys repaired so my truck would stop squeeking. They tried to tell me my brakes were bad. I told them there's nothing wrong with my brakes. They were working fine. Just repair the pulleys. My truck wasn't leaking any brake fluid or anything. 20 minutes later they texted me that my truck was finished. I went to get my truck, paid them for the repairs they did. I got in my truck, stepped on the brake pedal and it wnt all the way to the floor and brake fluid was leaking out onto the ground. Then they charged me 296 dollars to replace the brake line that they cut. If you value your life don't take your vehicle to Midas in Round Rock. They tried to do some bodily damage or tried to kill me. They don't get any stars for the service they gave me. They get a big fat FU. read more

Lucky they were not injured... they contacted Midas and Midas was rude and gave them a difficult time regarding necessary repairs. Great service and very economical! I went in for an oil change and tire rotation and ended up saving $20! How does that happen with today's economy, and the Federal Reserve raising the interest rates again! I usually went to another place as it was pretty fast and convenient to me. Well, that's going to change now that I found a better place that offers more services and is less expensive! AVOID - Crooks! Car had freon, as it would blow cold air while driving. But I needed to replace compressor, it would blow hot at idle. Took it in to evacuate the freon for $199, which is understandable, I'm ok paying for service, their shop, their tools, their time... They called to say it was finished and here come the lies! Told me it had a bad Schrader valve. Fined $35 for freon leaking out, plus additional $135 to fix the valve. Obviously, the valve was working when dropped it off it held freon, why am I being fined? Also told me there was a leak in the installed hose. I follow torque specs. I can't believe anything they tell me. Unapproved additional charges tacked on after the work is completed. read more

This location employs crooks. They stole parts off my car...twice. The first time I assumed it was a mistake when I noticed they hadn't put the engine splash shield back on, but it became obvious that they were stealing parts when I had to change my tire just to find they had stolen my lock nut key. I know this, because they bothered to replace it with scrap metal to weigh down the bag it was kept in. Don't go to this location. They employ dishonest thieves. read more

we could of all died, due to losing a tire bc Midas did not tighten the lug nuts! my tire came off completely on r family vehicle. I was so upset, terrified, I didn't know what was happening when the tire was coming off. my car was screeching, my tire was wedged under my car, my breaks wouldn't work....it was terrifying. I paid to have it towed back to Midas to repair. Midas told me my lug nuts were rusty....well, why did u put them back on? after paying $700.00 for front brakes I would of happily paid for NEW lug nuts .... especially since my children r in my car. in addition to Midas not tightening my lug nuts, we noticed a chip on my windshield when I picked my car up. it quickly turned into a long crack. again, they tried to blame me and refused to fix. Midas is horrible to deal with, they r over priced and u cannot trust them. DO NOT GO THERE. I was lucky that I was only going 25 mph, if I was going faster between my windshield cracking and potentially breaking, my tire flying off..me and my family wouldn't be alive today. I was also saddled with the burden of obtaining a rental vehicle. Midas manager Kevin Moroni gave me a rental budget of 48.00. A budget, really? We could of been killed...Kevin Mirony obviously values money more that his customers...BTW Kevin, rental cars r twice that. I had my friend driving me to 2 different rental establishments bc rental cars r hard to find. once again, the burden was on me. horrible horrible service! Brought my 2014 VK Jetta in last month when the catalytic converter was stolen. They were able to get my car serviced the same day and explained the process and how long it was going to take. I was leaving to go out of town the same day and they were able to get my car done by noon. I was very pleased with the service and how fast it took! I was in good hands with Kevin. AVOID THIS MIDAS! This place was horrific. We took our '00 Acura there for brake rotors and pads due to a squeaking during braking. After we picked up our car, it was as if nothing had changed. We brought it in again a week later. They inspected it, said nothing was wrong, and told us to wait a couple more weeks to see if the squeak went away. It did not. We brought it in AGAIN (that's the third time now) and they changed out the rotors and pads again with better ones at no cost (their only shining moment). Two months later, it started squeaking again. We didn't want to deal with these meatheads, so we waited. It kept squeaking, so we took it to another shop. This shop told us that the pins and shims that mount the pads to the calipers were installed in the rear wheels....reversed! That they were installed incorrectly, and now those pins and shim were protruding out from the pad in the incorrect direction and scraping my rotor. Idiots. Thankfully, the rotors weren't damaged, and Midas is going to fix it for free tomorrow, but we will NEVER, EVER go back to this location, and I strongly advise you to AVOID THIS MIDAS! They are inconsiderate, and they made me feel like crap every time I crawled back in with a problem that was THEIR fault. *Side note* The shop that found the problem and was super helpful in diagnosing that Midas did a poor job was CK Auto Plus on Roosevelt in Lombard. They were AWESOME. The didn't charge to look at our car, offered a loaner at no cost, and advised us on how to proceed with the previous shop, Midas, and how to get them to fix it for free. I will absolutely go to CK Auto again, whereas I will never return to this Midas. read more

This is the *BEST* mechanics shop that I have ever been to. People there are very honest and friendly. I brought my car to a local "reputable" mechanics and they said i needed new exhaust and muffler (and the list went on). the total quote was $500 and they said they had already given me a 15% discount and free labor. So my friend recommended me to go to Midas @ downers grove and I gave it a try. After they looked at the car, Steve (manager at the store) told me my muffler is completely fine! and the price of the exhaust was way overpriced at that "local reputable shop". Dale (the owner) was there too and he's very nice. They told me what needed to be fixed and the quote was around $210!! and guess what, when the car was done, they told me they found a $20 coupon for me! so the final bill is less than $200! what can I say... this is the 1st time i walked out a car repair shop with a smile on my face. While i was waiting there, other customers were also waving about the services there! If you want reliable, honest and great car repair service, this is where you should go! read more

Great service! These guys were incredibly patient with us while we dealt with getting repairs paid for. In short, a tow company broke our trans line about 3 weeks ago. We've spent all that time trying to get someone to pay for the repairs: the tow company, the emergency roadside service, our auto insurance agency. None of these three were available or willing to pay for the damages until just a couple days ago when I had to threaten them with a lawsuit and holding them responsible for any further charges incurred in the interim. During all that time, the professionals at Midas were always available and completely understanding of our situation. They didn't even charge us any holding fees, which I was sure were accumulating daily. After finally talking to our auto agency and arranging for payment, they agreed to release the car to us today. How long does it take to get an oil change when you have an appointment? I've been sitting for an hour and 15 minutes and their not done yet! OK, so it only took an hour and a half! Not sure what good an appointment is , if they put my car up on the lift and let it sit there doing nothing . I sure won't be coming back here. My time is a value to me even if it isn't to them. Only got out in an hour and a half because I asked how long it should take after an hour and ten minutes , and was told an hour. My 1st visit, I had scheduled an appointment online for an oil change. When I arrived for my appointment, I was greeted by an angry unpleasant man. When I told him I had an appointment, he let out a long annoyed sigh, and when I asked what the problem was he stated that Midas should not offer online appointments, and that if he were to take me it would be about 1 and half to 2 hours for an oil change. I had to leave because I did not expect to have to wait that long with an appointment. Today I decided to try them out again hoping to have a better experience. I called ahead to see if they were available to take a walk in oil change and he said yes the wait should be about an hour. I arrived shortly after and waited at the front desk for 10 minutes and was not once approached by any of the staff who could see me waiting at the desk through the window. When someone finally did decide to come in he went straight to his office and ignored me. I could see him eating his lunch and not once did he come out to see if I've been helped. I left. 3:30 I decided to give the business one last shot. I once again waited for 15 minutes at the front before before being addressed by any of the staff. The man at the front told me he could only get the oil change in if I left my car. He told me they close at 6 and that's when my car would be ready. I arrived at 6 and my car had not been serviced. I was told by the front desk guy that they hadn't gotten around to it but they could do it quickly. 9 minutes later my car was ready, and was told oil change was complete. When I asked if the tire pressure and washer fluid had been checked I was told yes to the tire pressure (which I didn't see them do) and was then told they were out of wind shield wiper fluid. I am completely appalled by the horrendous service this store provided. I will never give them my business again. I will say to their credit that the guys in the front were friendly and helpful. Price was higher than most other places for 1 tire but they were able to get it for me quicker. When they put the new tire on the wheel they trashed the wheel. It's all dinged up and warped. It's a BMW MTech wheel so that's extremely disappointing for me. About 3 days later the new tire is losing air. I would never come back here for anything again. read more

On a Thursday, my brakes started making funny noises. On Friday, we drop it at Midas (they did the brakes last time), and wait for the estimate call. They called a few hours later and said everything was shot, and they estimated $850. My husband called me and I said maybe we should take it for a second opinion because I couldn't believe we could go from brakes that were fine to brakes that were shot, all in 24 hours. We went and got the car, and went to a small mom & pop shop that a friend recommended. Their estimate was $350. When we picked it up, the actual charge was only $324. Although the oil change was done well, I was extremely disappointed with the services received. Not only were they dishonest about what was wrong with my car, they pushed and said that my car could possibly give out if I don't get the routers fixed immediately. I decided I needed another opinion because I wasn't going to just pay 1600 for something unless I'm sure. Come to find out my frame was just lose and it was a 200 dollar fix. These guys are great. Very honest and trustworthy. I've been a customer since 2001 when I moved into the area. They have been in business here since 1986 and have a very large and loyal customer following. It is few and far between to find people "who do what's right even when no one is looking".
