Midas is one of my go-to places if something's wrong with my pickup truck, mostly because its the nearest auto place to where I live (plus it's two doors down from Valvoline if they diagnose a problem!). They have always been nice enough to check out what's wrong. For example: in the past, they figured out what was wrong with my exhaust system, and they wanted to replace it for over a grand. But since I don't make a lot of money, I went to a muffler place in town that was much cheaper. I'm aware Midas can charge me more than an independent mechanic. Midas is a corporation, and that's not hard to keep in mind. I went in there yesterday in panic mode. Short version of story: my truck had been acting up the last two weeks and Auto Zone had given me half-assed test results on what made my "Check Engine Light" come on. They told me it may be one of the censors, so I had it fixed by my mechanic. When I got my truck back, my battery got very low - and I just bought and had it installed recently from Valvoline! Well, I took it back to Valvoline and my truck seemed like it was about to die and they told me to go to Midas because it won't make it that far anywhere else. So I did, and explained my situation to the front desk lady, and one of the workers took me home. Hours later, I heard from Aaron (super-nice guy), who told me about the alternator and it would be done that same day. I was happy for the first time in days over my truck, you wouldn't believe. I don't know how many cars or appointments were to go on that day at Midas, but I was relieved they took care of me that day. They told me I could pick it up later, for which I did. The only thing I didn't like out of the whole thing was I had to pay right away. I was at work and wasn't able to pick it up until after hours or the next day. I don't mind giving out my info over the phone, but I wanted to have time to go home and move money from my bank accounts so I could get "Cash Back" for using my bank card (Midas is one of my bank's clients that qualifies for Cash Back) and save maybe $30. They wanted the money right then and there, no matter when I was gonna pick it up. But at the end of the day, I'm just happy my truck is back in good health. Again, I know Midas is a respected corporation and they hire the experts and all, and that's great. I'm glad they were there for me. I really did appreciate that they were able to work on my truck on short notice (not that I needed it right away, but after two weeks of the machine not working properly, it was a relief to finally drive it normally!). My son took his car to the Glen Carbon Midas for an oil change. They supposedly did a vehicle inspection and told my son that he had less than 5% remaining on his front and rear brake pads, and that he needed 4 new rotors . They gave him an estimate of $1,478.84. We called two other repair shops and they both said that estimate was way too high . We ended up getting all the repairs done for $400. He did not need all of the repairs that Midas suggested . His rear brake pads were worn to 50% , not 5% . Beware of the Glen Carbon Midas! My son is a college student and I guess they assumed that he would call home, and I would pay the bill. read more

Wouldn't recommend. They only have 1 technician for 4 hours. The next one doesn't come in until 12. What kind of shop is this? Ridiculous.

Deceitful business - took my car in with break squeaks to inquire about new brakes. Asked about any costs associated and about discounts for services - no costs were disclosed. They proceeded to hand a laundry list of repairs totaling over $1100, and when I decided not to have them all serviced they refused to turn over my key until I paid a "diagnostic fee". This was not disclosed when the car was dropped off or when the call was made to pick up the car even when costs were asked about. Don't go here just because they can get you in quickly - there's a reason they're never busy. Will never be returning. read more

Brought my car in this morning for an oil change I had 70$ in a little compartment in my middle console you couldn't see it you'd have to be looking for something and it was gone , I've never had that happen so I was shocked I'm never going back and I'll tell my friends and family the same , so disappointed!!!!! read more

I took my BMW to this location to have them put new headlights in. When they put them in they didn't put them in correctly so they are loose. They put deep scratches in the fenders of my car when I just got the whole car painted a month prior to bringing it to them. When I showed the owner of this location my car he said they didn't do it. So I proceeded to show him the before and after pictures I took of my car that are timed and dated he still denied scratching my car. So the mechanic who worked on it called me and said he's not trying to run a "shady shop" and if I brought my car back they would fix the scratches. So, I went back and he put the wrong color on the car and messed the paint up even more. If I could give no stars I would. No accountability for the mess ups they have I DO NOT recommend bringing any vehicle here for anything. read more

After requesting an alignment (with appointment), they refused falsely claiming tire wear but charged me $39.95. Tires have 6/32" and evenly worn. Went to Dobbs who aligned. Midas corporate is not helpful... filed complaint with Better Business Bureau. Bottom line, I put an inner tie rod on myself and they were vindictive. read more

I believe the only reason this Midas location has good reviews is the fact that they give you a card on the way out telling you if you prove you left a review, get 10$ off your next service. That is beside the point though. I took my vehicle into this location after an overheat issue and low coolant level. I specifically asked for a pressure check on the system to check for a leak. No leak found, but they did tell me I need a new thermostat and gasket, thermos temp sensor, and to top it off they claimed I had an oil leak. I knew this wasn't correct at the time, but I was in a rush and just told them I'd pay the fee for the pressure check and be on my way. 150$. I didn't say anything at the time because maybe their diagnosis was correct but 150$ is ridiculous either way, a pressure test takes 20 minutes tops! Then I took it to a reputable mechanic 3 hours away in my hometown. There was a leak in the radiator that had been going on so long that there was visible corrosion all down the radiator. (Picture attached) My mechanic didn't even have to do a pressure test! When he looked, he could literally see where the leak was coming from because of the corrosion! To top it off, NONE of the other things that Midas quoted me for were an issue. Of course, then I go into Midas and ask for my money back because this was an obvious and clear mistake on their part which could've cost me 500+ to fix what they said is wrong then another 500+ to fix the actual problem. They denied my refund and told me they stand behind this diagnosis and I think that is ridiculous to say the least. I drove my vehicle over 600 miles this past weekend with NO help from Midas. Any honest shop or mechanic would at least apologize for missing such a glaring issue but not here, they stand behind their misdiagnosis. read more

I have a Volkswagen beetle and recently my check engine light was on, so I went to Midas to see if they could figure out what was wrong. I left my car there and when I went back to pick it up, one of the mechanics told me what was wrong and what I needed to do in order for the light to go off! These guys had specialized knowledge about my crown vic and what they tend to do as cars in general breakage wise. Drove me from and back to the store as my car was incapacitated, very down to earth and didn't sugar coat anything. Was willing to try a risky repair even though if they messed it up I wouldn't pay anything. Feel as though they genuinely care about their clients. Took my car for a oil change and engine light. Told the them after the el oil change they have to reset the code for service oil. She said they usually do. Pick the car up and it was never done. Ask the mechanic to do it and he didn't know how to do it he said. .... Told him to go online to see how to reset it and apparently it was over his pay grade. I did it in 2 minutes. They did have the equipment to figure out engine light...I usually have good service with them. read more

I went to Midas to have a check engine light diagnosed. I paid them 39.95 to have this done and agreed to pick up my truck before the end of the day. I came back at 4:30 pm and was told my truck had big problems and needed a new set of fuel injector's even though it was running perfect except for the check engine light. They handed me an estimate for over $8000 to repair it. I went home and researched the error code and discovered it was likely a dirty injector. I went to Auto Zone and bought a can of Seafoam cleaner and put in my tank. Within 20 miles of driving, the warning had cleared and has not returned. My problem was they didn't recommend cleaning, and tried to charge $900 plus labor for each injector. I found injectors for under $200 on the web. I don't think I will go back here again. read more

I would NEVER return to this place. Went in today to see if they could retorque a wheel and the dumb blonde you have working the front told me it's too "complicated" to do. Her words, " oh no, it takes a lot of time to put the car up and we can't do that. It's complicated." Seriously? You can't torque a tire? And last time I checked you don't have to put the car on a lift. Please don't hire idiots to work your front desk, as it will cause you future business. DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR or TRUCK TO THIS PLACE, I brought my car to Midas to have my compresser fixed on my AC. Yes, it was fix around May, it was guaranteed for 1 year=52 weeks, but in 53 weeks it stop working. I brought it back and talk to the owner Al Rajput, he said to fix it it will coast another $ 500.oo, as I gave him $ 891.52 to fix it the first time. NO one uses their AC in the winter. So it was defective parts they put in. Al refused to fix it unless I paid him more money. So off to court to sue Al Rajput. After going to court to sue Al @ Midas and with all the paper work and many times back & forth to court. I have wasted around 25 HRs. of my time to get my money back. It took almost 2 yrs to get my money back. They lied to the Judge saying they would give me my money or fix the car. THAT NEVER HAPPEN. DON'T write to CORP. They don't respond back. The blonde working the counter told me "they don't have conventional oil" a year & 1/2 ago. 5 months ago when someone else was working the counter they did & honored a $19.95 coupon from this shop. 3 weeks ago they wouldn't honor a $19.95 oil change coupon (from this exact store) because "they didn't have conventional oil." I told her this same shop did just a few months ago & she had no reply to that. She also told me the upgraded oil she wanted to sell me was good for 5,000 instead of 3,000 miles. My car is 22 years old & the manufacturer calls for 5,000 mile intervals of conventional oil. Just like every car manufactured since the mid 1980's. We received exceptional service from Greg at this store. We stopped for an oil-change while moving from Chicago to Florida, and Greg performed a thorough complimentary inspection of our vehicle. This was kind of embarrassing because we knew the car was on it's last legs - we just hoped the car would make it all the way to Florida. Greg let us know what maintenance the car desperately needed, but gave us confidence that we could wait until the end of our trip to do it. He was very informative, friendly, and (best of all) not pushy. He even figured out how to reset our service light, showed us how to do it, and printed out step-by-step instructions to add to our owners manual - service technicians never reset it because it's a tricky process on our Volvo. This was one of the worst experiences I've ever had related to car repairs. I took my car in due a brake fluid light. I was told I need front break pads and that everything else was great! Five days later, I took the car in for a recall repair. The dealership mentioned a fairly significant issue with the brakes. I went back to Midas the next day to give them a chance to correct the situation. They called an hour or so later and agreed that issue existed (brake caliper was leaking), but REPEATEDLY denied that they should have noticed this a few days prior. They were rude, at best, and said the can wasn't safe to drive due to $2,500 worth in issues they discovered that day. They said the dealer should have caught all of those other issues, too. Though, I never took the car to the dealership for a full inspection. I took it to Midas to inspect the brakes. I will NEVER do business with these people again; and I highly recommend that no one trust these folks. The service was deplorable and the technical work clearly inadequate. read more

Had a broken rear flange on my muffler. Brought it in at 8 in the morning. Technician looked at and said he could weld it back together cheaper than replacing the entire muffler. Had it done in less than an hour for a hundred dollars. Quick, cheap and efficient. read more

Waited over two hours for a battery replacement. I called ahead and they said it was in stock and shouldn't take more than a half hour 45mins and I would be on my way within an hour. An hour into it I asked for an update, was told 10 more minutes. Then 15mins after that a mechanic told me the battery wasn't here, and that once it's at the shop, it would be about 5mins. Another 40mins go by, and nothing. So I ask for an update, and was told should be no more than 10mins and the battery was here. Here's my issue- what were you doing in that hour beforehand when my car was being "worked on." And why didn't you come and tell me about the battery when I asked for the first status update. So frustrating. And the receptionist and I am assuming the manager, were constantly leaving the front desk and stepping in the back. So aggravating. I miss the Collinsville Midas. Much friendlier, and I was in and out, and if something was going to take longer, I would be told immediately. read more

Not only did they not fix the noise I came in for but they had me drain my bank account to pay for them to replace a part that wasn't even the reason for the noise! After they did it the noise got TEN TIME LOUDER and instead of it being only when I turn it's CONSTANT! I tried to ask the mechanic if he could fix what he messes up and he hung up on me! Then after leaving 3 messages for the manager I emailed the Midas website and got a sarcastic response from the manager saying that he could go "dig my old part of the dumpster".
