I took my truck to Mark's to fix an exhaust manifold. First impression, everyone in that shop are very friendly and helpful. They kept the car overnight to let the engine cool to diagnose the problem. Early next morning I got the call with the diagnosis. I gave the go ahead knowing there there were a lot of "what ifs". Manifolds can be frustrating to say the least. Turns out it wasn't the easiest job due to frozen bolts. Still the bill was very reasonable. And the service was more than wonderful. I was visiting family in Edwardsville from Virginia and after driving nearly 1,000 miles, when I arrived to Edwardsville, my car had the indicator light come on which said I needed new brake pads. I was only going to be in Edwardsville for 48 hours. Mark and his wife, Angie, were absolutely amazing!!! While Mark did not make any promises when I first spoke with him. However, within 24 hours he was able to get the parts I needed (brake pads, calipers, and the computer sensor for my BMW (which is not easy to get parts for). He fixed the car right away. He and Angie were so friendly and helpful. I wish their shop was near my home in Virginia!!!! They are amazing!!!!! read more

Why does a catalytic converter fail again? Thought we'd fixed the seal that was blowing a little radiator fluid through the Grand Prix's exhaust. Not really sure why it happened. Even so, Mark Muffler found a way to give us a 50% credit on the new part when I presented the receipt from 2010. That was awesome. They have saved me lots of $$, and did a great job on my pickup truck as well as provide great, fast service. Mark Muffler Shop in E'ville is a business that proudly represents being a small one. They have been around for more than 40 years and most of the staff has been there longer than I've been alive! Short version of story: my truck was dragging something on the bottom while I was in North St. Louis. It turns out it was the exhaust system, including the muffler that got dislocated due to years of rust and aging. I had it towed to Midas in Glen Carbon, and they were nice enough to do an estimate check for free. But they wanted to replace the whole exhaust system underneath and charge me a little over $1400! I had called three other mechanics/auto shops before Mark, and they all suggested him (that included my regular mechanic in Livingston, IL). Mark was able to provide me a great deal over the phone, and he was kind of like, "Only a fool would pay that much for something that big!". I took it in and by the end of the day, Mark and the crew were done. I'm sure they had plenty of other cars to work on, but they made the time for mine. He didn't have to replace the entire exhaust system, as there were no issues in the catalytic cylinder and other related parts. But Mark did replace a few, and he only charged me not even $300. Marty explained what they did, and the pricing and everything was clear. I was happy, they were happy. Happy as in confident in what they did. They were like, "Well, we've only been doing it for 40+ years...", with a smile. I I called them around 11:30am & they let me know i could come in by 1pm. I arrived at 12:45pm & i left at 1:30pm with my car fully repaired. I came here after getting a $400 quote (and they said it would take about 3 hours) from another auto shop.My father thought was outrageous for the small repair i needed & it turned out to be true because Mark Muffler shop only charged me $90.56 & offered me a more permanent solution. I was on a cross country road trip when my car suddenly started making a constant noise/vibration so I looked for a well-reviewed shop online before settling on Mark's shop. They smoothly and quickly took my car out for a test drive before putting it on the lifters and discovered the resonator was rusted out and cracked open. My dad and I have been taking our cars to Mark Muffler for years. Actually, that should say it all for the review; returning to the same mechanics for years means they're doing it right! Mark Muffler is always professional, friendly, and willing to work around your schedule. They have continuously done an excellent job with whatever I have brought my car in for. They even installed my new headlight units, though that is not necessarily what they do. They are fair in price and my final bill has often been less than their original estimate. My car is a 2001 Nissan and it runs like a top thanks to them! As an example: I just recently took my car in to have its brakes checked. They did another excellent job and they even tried to save me some money by not replacing the front rotors. They explained that the rotors COULD be replaced, but felt they still had some life left in them. They also stated to me that if I wasn't comfortable with that, they would do whatever I asked them to do. My brakes have been working just fine and I can't tell you how nice it is to have such honest people working on my car. In their profession they truly understand that it's not about the initial money they take in- it's about honesty, quality, and the customer. That's why my father and I keep returning. I brought my Acadia in with a loud noise caused by the power steering. These guys went out of their way to do everything they could to help me avoid having to replace the power steering rack.....a very expensive repair. Can't help but think these positive reviews in here were written by family members. I brought my latest restoration in for two new mufflers and to have them weld on some chrome exhaust tips for me. I provided the parts and was told it would take about 2 hours to get the work done. I've had this same work done before by other shops and the bill has been about $150 give or take. One hour forty-seven minutes later Mark's bill was $293. Needless to say I nearly soiled myself. My requests for what their hourly labor rate was constantly went unanswered and the man behind the counter kept stating that he put his best guy on it and that the work was guaranteed. I admit that I should have gotten an estimate prior to the work starting but I expected to be in line with the other local businesses I've used over the years. Unfortunately it's not. This is simply the very best car repair place I've ever found! They are completely professional in every way you can count. I've had two different cars in their shop and both were fixed exactly as they said they would, but most importantly to me, Mark (owner) and ALL of the other employees have treated me right. The pricing is always explained in great detail (and on one occasion even discounted on some select items since I had a very large repair being done) and I have complete confidence that their work will always be done right! Also, they have really worked hard to make the necessary car repairs for me as quickly as possible. They have worked me into their crowded repair schedule on short notice and then worked hard to be done before closing time. I live nearby the shop and Mark has stayed open after closing to complete repairs, and then also given me extra time to come by and settle the bill. You do not find this at many other car repair shops. But most importantly, when you have used cars with high mileage like I do, when you have a repair done you want to trust that your car will just work right-that your money was not wasted. You can trust Mark and his crew to make it ok. No they don't do absolutely everything on cars (I needed very heavy transmission work on a car they couldn't do but they did refer me to a great local transmission specialist) but the work they do do for you will be amazing. Mann reassured me that whatever the car needed he would take care of ans most important would treat my daughter as if she were his Own in making sure the car was repaired correctly, safe for her to drive, not overcharged or anything of that nature. I wish I could give a negative rating. I too after reading all the positive reviews thought that Mark Muffler would be a sure bet. But, boy were we wrong. We had car towed there after car wouldn't start, the car was dropped off on Friday, on Tuesday we got a call and they are running diagnostics, on Wednesday we are told it was the starter and to pick up car. We pay and are heading out, I proceed to leave with another vehicle and husband gets in the repaired car and notices the brake light is on and wants them to look at, Mark proceed to tell him that the brake line is broken and they don't do that kind of repair there. They hand him the keys and tell him to be careful. We come in with a starter issue and he allows him to leave with a broken brake line. So, my husband takes the back roads and gets home safely. Luckily he nor anyone else was injured. Not only is what they did unprofessional and morally dangerous. It could be criminal if, if someone had gotten injured or killed. I find it unreasonable to think that they did not see the light on dashboard prior to giving us the keys and that is also deceitful and worrisome. Glad it wasn't an elderly senior or mother with children in car. I would not give ANY business to this location. read more
