I spoke with Waylon at Midas on Troost Kansas City, Mo to pick up husband's vehicle. I admit I did raise my voice with him because of being charged storage fees, which he finally waived because of my persistence. Another thing that upset me was a mechanic came out of the garage area into the lobby and involved himself in the conversation. It did NOT take two men against me to resolve the issue. After I got home, my husband informed me the original battery was just purchased two months ago. Now I feel it was changed unnecessarily. I am going to payoff my Midas credit card and I will be taking my three vehicles somewhere else. I suggest to anyone else, DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO MIDAS ON TROOST. Super fast and reliable service. They changed my oil in an hour. Another place in town literally took 8 hours. I've also gotten new tires here and install was easy. I've had trouble getting confirmation emails when trying to schedule online so it might be easier to just call. Or call to confirm yourself. read more

Service is very slow here ( I made an appointment) to get two new tires put on my truck came 30 minutes early the mechanic said he should be done shortly because he had no other cars to work on.... almost three hours later he is still not done. I've been sitting in a friends car watching him walk back and forth and speak to the guy at the front desk ... no one else is here and no one else is waiting so I'm pretty unsure of what's taking so long . Besides the slow service the staff members are nice and very knowledgeable just don't come here if you are in a rush to get anything done . read more

Dwayne had his tech spend several hours investigating an overheating problem on my 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. He conducted pressure tests, chemical tests, visual and mechanical inspections, and informed me every step of the way. Ultimately it was concluded my problem is most likely a head gasket failure, but because they couldn't offer 100% diagnostic certainty, they didn't charge me a dime for all their hard work. Saturday I started having an issue with a tire going low. It was late in the evening and everywhere I called were either too busy or closed. The manager at Midas saw the missed called and even though they were closed, he called me back. He said he was doing some paper work and if he had a tech there he would help me. I was blown away by the customer service. Who notices a missed call and returns it after hours??! I aired up the tire, added some fix a flat, and after driving around Sunday it appeared to be ok. I went out Monday and it was flat. I pulled out my little compressor and aired it up enough to drive the couple of blocks to Midas. I was very happy to give them my business after Saturday night. They said it would be about 40 minutes before they could look at it. After an hour I asked how it was going and they said they were working on it. Plugging a tire is a 15 minute job. After an hour and a half they said they couldn't repair it and could schedule me the next morning for a new tire. Really? An hour and a half and nothing resolved? They offered to put the spare on so I could drive and not be flat again in the morning. Another half hour. Really? A half hour to change a tire when one is already off? In the two hours I sat there I listened to the workers in the bay (by the way guys, we can hear you in the waiting area) complaining about the new guy not working. Instead of whining, maybe work on my tire? A nice selection of language. I really don't care, but it shows a lack of concern for customer service because many would care. And when they did change my tire, mocking about stuff that was in my car. I was ready to start taking all of my car maitenence here based on the great service Saturday. Sad how quickly that can change because of others poor service. The manager needs to step out of his office more and instil his work values on others. read more

I have an extremely busy life, so I generally don't take the time to write reviews unless I am strongly moved by something one way or the other: I have to really love it or hate it. This one is a love story -- admittedly a very dull one, devoid of drama or sex. About five years ago a good friend recommended this shop to me. I'm usually a bit wary of large chains, but my friend is something of a demanding cheapskate (I mean that in an affectionate way), so I figured what the heck, I'll give it a try with some small-ticket repairs and maintenance items. Well ..... I'm a believer! They are honest, fast, communicative .... and I'm often surprised at how low the bill is (even on complicated, relatively major jobs). My entire family has been taking our many cars (both foreign and domestic) to this Midas ever since, and none of us has ever had to return to the shop to have something redone or adjusted. The staff are friendly, efficient, and they actually seems to be happy working there. They always patiently explain the diagnosis and what it will take to fix the issue. Very importantly, we have NEVER felt like they were trying to sell us anything we didn't need. This place is a real find! :) read more

Last thing you want to happen on your vacation is car problems, especially being 500 miles away from home.Our rear breaks needed to be replaced. Looked on "YELP" and found the Midas store on Troost Ave Kansas City MO had a five star rating. Trevor Knight and the Midas crew made us feel welcomed and went beyond just telling us what needed to be replaced, but also took us in the shop to show us the condition of the breaks and what the new parts should look like so we had an understanding. The pricing was very reasonable and we were informed of a coupon on line we could use! The shop was very busy; the crew worked very well together. Had an opportunity to speak to other customers while we were waiting, and they all had good things to say and are repeated customers.Thank-You once again Trevor and the Midas crew for being there for us and other customers! I had a service competed over 10 days where they charged me for the replacement of two head gaskets when they only replaced one, they completely left out a hose connecting both cylinder heads and didn't install it, and left my transmission 1 and 1/2 gallons low on transmission fluid: which almost blew the transmission if it hadn't been winter and caught within under 100 miles. I've had work done here for over a decade; mainly suspension or muffler work, but I will not trust them with my engine again and hope you consider the consequences of what could happen if you do so as well. All diagnostics post service were completed by an authorized Chevrolet dealer which found the issues Midas created and the service that was billed for unperformed labor. I highly advise you consider the complexity of your issue and trust all critical components to any shop which is authorized to do so. read more

This isn't even the closest car place to my house but I go there almost every time for my personal car. I've tried calling the Midas on 103rd St several times to get an appointment but they can't ever fit me in the same day. Midas on Troost fits you in, even when they only have one tech working. Chris, the owner/manager, is a really nice guy and always tries to work with people. They never try to up-sell you like at other places and they actually treat you like a person, not a walking ATM. If there are some things your car needs Chris usually tells you what is most important to do first and what you can wait awhile on. The chairs in the waiting room might not be the most comfortable seat but at least you know your car is in good hands. read more

These people don't know about what they are doing. I brought my car because I had problem with my a/c. I told them, I tried to fix it by my self and also brought it to other mechanic before. I told them what I have done. Then after almost 2 hours waiting, they told me I need to change my compressor and will cost me $700. I asked them, how much is the part? Then he said around $500. Then I went online, and I found the market price for the part is around $250-300. They were trying to rip me off, that what I had in my mind. So, I told them I won't do that. Then he charged me the labor cost and also the Freon, which I have no idea why they recharged with Freon after I told them it wouldn't work because I had done that. Maybe this guy thought I am just a stupid guy that doesn't know about car. You are fucking wrong dude. I know more about car than your mechanic. I just don't want to spend my money to buy some tools that I will use once. I have fucking master degree dude!!! He tried to charge me the Freon cost without telling me in the first place. I told him, I am not gonna paying for that. At the end he charged me $70 for labor cost with 100% sure the problem is the compressor. Then I called my friend to refer me to his mechanic. I called the mechanic, made appointment, and done in 40 minutes without replacing my compressor. My a/c blows cold now!!! I know my compressor is working. I know what compressor and where it is!!! They tried to sell thing that I don't need. I want my fucking $70 back, because you guys made a wrong diagnostic. That just waste of my money and time. Dishonest business. Lied to me about repairs I needed, said I needed my ball joints fixed since they knew I had just bought the car and didn't know any better. Though I was a little naive going in I didn't expect them to take advantage of me like they had, ripping me off upwards of $350. When I got a second opinion from another mechanic they said not only did my ball joints not have to be replaced, but had just been replaced. This business is dishonest. Do your research and go somewhere worth your time. I'm infuriated by their service, communication and dishonesty. read more

The attention to detail and service is not good. I wanted an oil change and to have my tires filled up to the proper level. When I left, all of my tires were low and the warning light was still on. I called the location and they said that filling tires was part of the service and I should drive the car until the light goes off, but I checked them myself and they were all low after the service. It makes you wonder what else could have been forgotten. The technician makes you go under your car and complete a checklist, so they can sell you things. I just wish they would have completed the things that I needed. I went out in the rain at night in a dress and tried to fill my own tires after work. I used a coupon, so the price was right, but it wasn't worth it. Also, all of my settings inside the car were changed. read more

No one every wants to have auto troubles out of town. My brakes went south and I needed a repair shop. I trust the Midas Touch so I gave them a call. They got me in quick for a free inspection and had the issue figured out pretty quickly, I knew it was bad and was prepared for the ugly $$$ news. The service tech went to work on my truck immediately and got me back on the road as quickly as possible. I am really not sure why the manage is a manager. I did not get his name but he is a Big white guy his stomach hangs over his belt. First he made all kinds of gesture as if he was tired or did not want to be at work. He told me he works 6 days a week. Anyway we all have to do what we have to do to take care of our self and our family. So I was there to have my back brakes checked and noise that I was hearing which I was told it was some type of plexy type pipe. As I was waiting for my car to be check. A young couple comes in needing a oil change. This manager make this customer wait while he sound as though he was on a personal call that he left customer standing there while he went outside to finish his conversation. He return and has his mechanic take this fellows car in. Few moments later I heard him telling the guy that a oil change would not fix his car. So the customer ask why this manager said he did not know it would need to be on diagnostic machine. then the mechanic comes in and ask the young fellow to ride with him in his car. When this young guy returns he appeared to be satisfied by whatever the Mechanic told him. So I look up again and the customer and his lady friend was in their car and the Mechanic is trying to tell the manager that he could go ahead and do the oil change but the manager demanded the Mechanic not to do it. This manager pretty much said the customers car was a piece of trash and no oil change would help. You could see the frustration in the Mechanics face. So the manager said I take care of this so he goes out to the customer car talk with him and then comes back in and the customer leaves. It was a really ugly and uncomfortable scene. So he tells me I need back Brake and a Catalytic Converter I had two Mechanics look at my car and neither one of them told me I needed a Catalytic Converter so he told me the cost for these repairs would be $1100. On the counter I seen this advertisement and I also overheard him on the phone offering this loan you could apply for. So I done that and was approved for $1200 but if you did not pay it off in 90 days the interest was like 325% so I decided I just wanted to have my brakes repaired I knew I could pay that off in 90 days and I would come back but not there for this Catalytic Converter. He than told me that I could not use the loan unless my bill was at least $350 so I said can you put on a tire or two because my tires was bad too. He than said I cannot sell you one or two tires I can only sell you all 4 tires. So I said nevermind. So he told the mechanic take her car down pretty much look at me and said good bye. HE IS A VERY RUDE AND UNCOMFORTABLE TO BE AROUND. I DO NOT BELIEVE HE SHOULD BE ANYONE'S MANAGER HE HAS NO CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS. I felt sorry for the way he spoke to that mechanic in front of me and the other customer. read more

I have been using this same Midas for over a year, having spent over $800 for upkeep for my vehicle. This last visit they had my car for over a week to wait for a part, which I knew about. However, they lied and said they performed an engine diagnostic and knew what was wrong with my car, charging me for the diagnostic, the part, and labor. When I picked up my car, the first thing the mechanic said to me was "It's not driving right, I don't know why." My car had the exact same problem I paid hundreds for them to fix and that they told me they fixed! What made me realy mad was that they lied about performing the diagnostic which they told me they did on the very first day. They don't have the computer to read it so they could not have. Of course no one tells me this until after the fact. This entire situation could have been solved if they had told me the very first day they could not fix it! Instead, they kept my car over a week and it was not at all fixed or driving better. They wasted my time for a week, and I work full time and am a full time student. Now, I am thinking heavily on the last four times I visited this shop and whether or not I was charged fairly or if the service was actually performed. read more

This place was really disappointing. I have been taking my car there for years, and almost every time they mess something up about the simplest of maintenance. I once took my car in for an oil change, and then my car made a mysterious clunking noise for about a week afterwards until it eventually went away. Most recently, though, my fiance took my car in for an oil change, and he came back and said that they told him they didn't know how to reset the oil change light (really??), and they told him to "just Google it." They insisted that it would be really easy to figure out ourselves from Googling it or watching a YouTube video, but my thought was that, if it's really so easy to figure out, how come they can't figure out themselves? After all, we paid them to take care of it. So I took the car back in the next day and asked them to figure it out (and to give us the new oil change sticker, which they also didn't do) and the guy who I think is the manager said sarcastically, "shame on us." He then went to try for a couple of minutes to figure it out, but came back and said that he didn't know how to do it, so I'd have to take the car to the dealer. To take it to the dealer would be an insane, two-hour round trip. Ain't nobody got time for that! I asked him to ask his colleagues if they knew how to do it, and after a lot of insistence on my part, he asked his coworker to check it out, and his coworker figured in out in less than 10 seconds. It just made it extra frustrating that he didn't want to put in any effort himself before telling me to take my car elsewhere. THEN, I realized after I left that every time my heat was turned on that there was a strong oil smell in my car. For about two weeks I had to alternate between keeping my heat on (and thus having oil fumes blowing into my face) and just keeping the heat off, despite the -20 wind chill. I just had the time to take it to a different auto shop today, and they told me that the problem was that this place didn't put the oil cap back on after the oil change, so it was leaking oil the whole time! read more
