If I could give minus stars, this place certainly would deserve it! Went there last week with a shake in my suspicion/wheels. They told me I had a bent rim but balanced the tires. Then the lies started flying. My brakes were shot! Told me I needed not only pads but new rotors too! Decided no-can-do now ($900.00 quote)so I paid $80.00 and drove down route 10. The shaking was still there. Took my car to a more reputable place today and found out brakes are fine for now, needs just pads sometime this month and the rim wasn't bent just badly out of balance. Horrible customer service!! Total rip off. I came in for a tire repair. Most of the Midas shops in the area charge $18 for a plug and $35 for a patch. I had a nail in the middle of the tread completely repairable area. The manager said it would be $35 for the repair. When It was completed I asked him what type of repair it was. He states he did a plug for $35 for a plug repair. He said he can charge whatever he wants. He was rude and even used foul language. Do not go here. Do not trust the manager. She later gets a call from them stating that, when removing the tires, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System Sensors had broken off, and that she would need to pay for 4 new TPMS sensors as well. How on earth do ALL FOUR TPMS sensors just happen to break when simply removing tires from a vehicle??? And how on earth is it satisfactory to charge her, when THEY broke the sensors in the course of a basic tire removal??? Turns out this is a known old school auto repair scam to con people out of money, and they obviously saw her as a very easy victim. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!! read more

I will never return to this place after today. I was a long-time customer of this shop. Today I brought my girlfriend's car in for an oil change and tire rotation. I made an appointment yesterday, and was hurried off the phone by Chris. Cut to today: walk in the door, and low and behold, they don't have me down for my 11:00 appointment! Ok, fine. I'll wait around. One hour later, my battery needs to be replaced immediately! My hoses are "spongy" and need to be replaced immediately! Overall, the car needs $500 worth of work or I will surely die leaving the shop. Chris, who I presume is the owner or manager, rings me up. I had presented a coupon for $19.99 for an oil change and tire rotation, the latter of which they did not even do, and was charged $25. When I inquired about the extra charge, Chris slammed the receipt down in front of me and told me to "read it", exclaiming that the extra charge was tax. Last time I checked, 7% of 19.99 was roughly 1.40. He then says that the extra charge was for "shop supply fees". Shouldn't "shop supplies" for a simple oil change be included in the price of the oil change? In addition to my experience, I personally watched him tell customers who had made appointments that they did not have them booked. I saw him treat the girl at the desk like garbage, yell at employees, and generally act like customers were his biggest problem. Don't worry, Chris. I won't be a problem for you anymore. I heard about Midas Randolph on Facebook. The CEO (Kerry) was looking for secret shoppers to test the customer service of the location she just bought. To all secret shoppers she noted: "Your repairs will be GREATLY discounted. But I need actual FEEDBACK." Due to some family emergencies, I was not able to contact Kerry until about 1 month after her initial post. When I called her, I asked if she was still looking for secret shoppers, to which she responded yes. My husband and I have 4 cars between us. We thought it would be a good idea to test Midas out, and find a local home for our cars. We also appreciated that there would be a big discount on one of the cars. In fact, when an assessment was done on the car and the issues found were more than anticipated, I didn't hesitate to have the fixes made because of the discount. (Generally we would price shop first if we are planning to spend that amount of money - about $1,500). We completed the service, and I took notes on the following areas as requested: 1) Customer Service 2)Technicians 3) Appearance 4)Overall Experience In general, the service was relatively quick and the associates I dealt with were friendly. This is why I was so surprised about what happened next. When I returned to pay for the services, I asked for Kerry as instructed. She alerted me that Jay was aware of the secret shopper process, and could handle the invoice for me. When I paid for the service however, the bill was for the full price. I asked Jay about it, and he told me that the discount is applied after paying full price. Kerry also informed me that I'd need to fill out a survey before the discount could be applied. I received and completed the survey that weekend. While I wasn't able to comment on all of the areas I took notes on, the survey was reasonable. Since then I have contacted Kerry a few times about the discount and have received no response. It has been almost 2 weeks since the service date, and no refund has been applied. Due to the amount of time that has passed, as well as the fact that all of my communications have been ignored, at this point I do not believe any discount will be forth coming. I am leaving this review because I now believe that the secret shopper promise was a ruse in order to get business, when no discounts are being applied. I would not recommend this place to anyone else, and I certainly will not be taking any of my other cars to this location for service. [Edited 5/23/2018]: UPDATE: I spoke to the owner of the shop today regarding my prior review. After speaking to him, I am 100% certain this was a scam. Here is the language from the "CEO" (Kerry) of Midas, that was posted on Facebook in search of secret shoppers on April 12th: "I need secret shoppers..... If you or anyone you know has a vehicle that needs repairs or maintenance PM me. Your repairs will be GREATLY discounted. But I need actual FEEDBACK. My husband and I recently took over a shop in Morris County that existing employees. We want real suggestions and reviews on our 1)Customer Service 2)Technicians 3) Appearance 4)Overall Experience" What I learned today: 1. Kerry and her husband did not "take over" the Midas shop at all. The shop belongs to Jay. There is no new ownership. 2. While Kerry calls herself the "CEO", CEO actually stands for Chief Experience Officer, and not the Chief Executive Officer. She does not have any ownership in the shop. 3. There was NEVER any intention to give a discount on the price, only a $50 coupon off the next service. So the comment "Your repairs will be GREATLY discounted" is an outright lie. Additionally, both Kerry and Jay lied while I was at the shop, when they both said that my discount would be applied after full payment. They were both in on the scam. A good, honest auto shop! My father lives in Randolph, so I've been here a few times for service on my 150,000-mile 1989 BMW: oil changes, brake repairs, belt replacements and tire rotations. The prices have always been reasonable -- no exaggerated labor charges, no unnecessary work. The last time I went in, the handle that pops the hood was broken; they spent an hour fixing that so they could get to the engine, and didn't charge for the labor. Highly recommended! read more

I took my mini van there for an oil change and when I drover it home the mini van stopped working and was driving on Rt10 East I couldn't brake or steer. I finally stopped and called Midas for help they send a mechanic that didn't ask me if I was Ok his exact words were "pop the hood." He told me that the guy that worked in my mini had put to much oil And to get a tow Truck. The next day it was a different story they said the car needed a tune up that they cleaned one of the sensors and it was working. I told them how come yesterday before this happened you gave me a print out with what the mini van needed done and a tune up or that sensor wasn't mention. The rude guy that is in the front desk didn't answer me. Worst place ever very rude not one person asked me if I was ok. I could had gotten in an accident and might had hurt myself or another person. I have been bringing my cars here for years for oil changes and have not had a problem until now. According to the website every oil change comes with a Courtesy Check, where the brakes, tires and fluids are all checked and a printout is given to me of the findings. I had an oil change yesterday and did not receive the printout. When I asked for it I was given the printout, which was 90% blank. I asked if these things were checked and was told, "There's only one guy here today and he's got a lot of cars so he didn't check everything." I explained that it's included in the fee for the oil change so basically I didn't get what I paid for. He just shrugged. He told me there's been a new owner since January and things are different now. It's a shame to see this place go downhill so quickly. My rear defroster does not work, so we went to Midas to get it fixed. Given our work schedules and commutes, my husband and I could only get the car in on a Saturday. They told us they 'do not diagnose' on Saturdays. A few weeks go by and we finally have a chance to drop the car off on the Friday after Thanksgiving. We get a call on Saturday evening saying that they had just figured out that the problem as something electrical. (diagnosed on a SATURDAY!) Apparently, their electrical guy only works on weekdays, so he would have to come in on Monday to fully diagnose the problem. They did not give us an estimate or anything, but we figured we needed it fixed so we told them to go ahead. We also asked for a new pair of wiper blades. Monday rolls around, and my husband has a half day. He hasn't yet received another call from them, but figures that they've already had the car for four days, so he would check to see if they'd made any progress. They had not. They claimed replacing the part would cost $200, and that the man hours ($95 per hour) would be $500-600 more. My husband said we would think about it and that we needed the car. They then told him they had to finish putting the car back together, and he waited for about 15 minutes. They failed to put back several panels. They also charged us $40 for the wiper blades. This has BY FAR been the worst experience we've ever had with a mechanic. read more

I got a large bolt in my tire and was losing air fast. I stopped in a few tire stores on rt. 46 and was given exaggerated quotes and ideas about things happening to my car. I called Midas and spoke with Jay who made me feel comfortable enough driving 2 miles to his shop. He was very knowledgeable and helped me make the best decision for me that saved me a lot of money. I came in to Midas to get an exhaust installed. I explained clearly over the phone the parts that were to be installed, as this was not a standard catback exhaust but included the downpipe & catalytic converters. I brought all these parts in and was told that after tax it would come to right around $200, and would take approximately 2 to 2-1/2 hrs to install. Expensive, but because it needs welding and that exceeds my mechanical ability, I decided to just go for it and save myself the aggravation. After waiting around for about 45 minutes, I get called out to go over what the install would entail and discuss several points they thought may be difficult. I will say that the mechanic ( I believe his name was Ryan) was very professional and courteous, and explained that the exhaust would require "some additional hardware" (exhaust clamps) and possibly the o2 sensors if they stripped out. They also explained that the repair would take longer than expected, and that I would likely have to leave it until Monday for them to finish up. I agreed, and left. I get a call Monday (3/13) asking for me to authorize the work before they start. Weird, seeing as they told me they would start Saturday and it would be finished on Monday. But it gets better - they explain that due to the extra parts & time, that it will now cost me $460. That's right, folks: over twice as much for common exhaust clamps & some magical $80 o2 sensors (easily find the same ones for $60 in auto stores, and if you shop online you can get them for $30-$40; gotta love markups!). Needless to say I was quite aggravated with the added costs, and told them they were out of their minds. They offered me $360 instead (which is still expensive), so I did not authorize the work and explained to the owner that I would not be doing business with them and that I'd be sharing my experience on an online review. Unless this business was actually Midas as in King Midas, and was able to turn my exhaust system into gold with their wonderful mechanical skills, the price given was insane. For reference, I've decided to go to a local auto repair shop and have been quoted a price of $120. I usually do not go to repair shops for fear of insane markups, and this experience solidified my view to always do my own work when feasible, and to shop local when it is not. The takeaway (and why I'm annoyed enough to sign up to yelp and post this review) is this: I was there on Saturday. They saw the extra work and parts they would need on Saturday. If you are going to more than double the price to the customer, would you not think to give them a heads up on that Saturday to let them know that it will be substantially more expensive? If you're running a fair business, absolutely. If you're trying to squeeze your customers out of every last hard earned penny, then you do what this shop does: let a customer waste a weekend leaving his jeep at your facility, only to slam him with an astronomical price on Monday in the hopes that the extra money isn't worth the hassle and added time to find another shop to him. No thanks. A tip for those who still decide to use Midas: at least try and haggle on the price - the cost went from $460 to $100 less after I complained, and if this is any indication of the manner in which this shop is conducted, they very well could be making the same large profit margins on your next repair or service. read more

I have been going to this Midas for years. It recently changed ownership and the service , speed , attentiveness to detail and even the prices have ALL changed for the better!!! One job recently would have cost $1600. which was just not possible for us, I knew what was wrong and knew that the price quoted was within reason for standard "buy new and replace" approach. DO NOT GO HERE!! I brought my car here for an oil change in middle of January. When I got there I asked them to check my breaks as I knew it was coming up on around the time I would need to change them, fully prepared to get them done as well. After waiting 2 hours after my scheduled appointment to leave they told me that my breaks were fine. I took my car back last week to get my oil changed and when I went to pick up my car I was informed that I destroyed my back breaks I needed new pads, rotors and that I had frozen my brake calipers. Frustrated because I knew I specifically asked for them to check them the last time I was there. I asked how much it would cost he told me around 1k before taxes for the back to be fixed. I decided to bring it for a second opinion where they told me my calipers were not frozen and I would just need to get new pads and rotors costing me half that for all 4 tires. If I could give a less rating than this I would , the guy Chris has been working/ wrecking my cars for ages , he is a complete liar .. I took my car to a separate family/ friend mechanic checked all the fuses all the relays and he said everything was working perfectly the power steering was fine no leaks and I needed a new exhaust and he fixed it pretty well but when we came to the conclusion that I only wanted to spend $1000 dollars , without asking he installed a converter on the exhaust which raised the price to 1400 without talking to me about it , then I get my car after spending that much money and see the check engine light is still on I ask him why and he said "oh I forgot to turn it off, he not only turned it off but disables my mechanic to access it with his computer .. But that was only after I found out he drained all the fluids out of my car except for a little coolant so when my radiator over heated it would be about a month later to try to get repeat customers .. I then found a leak on the power steering line which is a very high powered line and replaced it basically with a rubber band the mechanics there literally hurt your car so you are back every 6 months and believe me it will cost way more than an oil change ... I went before it became a franchise. The owners were incredible. They talked to you while you waited for your car and were all around nice. So a few months ago I decided to go back but this time there were new owners. I wasn't a fan of them. I definitely didn't get treated like I did the first time. They changed a lot of things. When I went the first time, I got a sheet of everything that was done to my car and it showed what was good and what could be done in the next few months. Me not knowing anything about cars, took it to my dad and he was impressed and helped me get whatever I needed done done. This time, I got nothing but a "your cars done." So I get back in my car and look where the sticker is for my next oil change and it's a mess. I guess they put the sticker on wrong or too early and had to remove it so the sticky part of the sticker was stuck to my windshield. I took my car for oil change, after 3-4 hours got a call from the guy there and he told me that my car's steering wheel pump is leaking, it will cost 450$ to fix it. He told me that it is critical, please tell me what to do. I told him no because I wanted a second opinion on it, he got mad on me. When I took my car to acura dealership, the mechanic there inspected the car in front of me and there was no leakage.
