Healthy eats! I like their house salad with lemon tahini dressing. The greens are consistently fresh & there are a variety of veggies & nuts. They can also make a good espresso, though there's usually a line. All the smoothies & juices I've tried here are excellent. My favourite is Nina. The featured artwork is ever rotating. The staff is friendly & they are quick to bus tables. It's a nice café in which to relax & get a little work done, but it can be crowded sometimes. read more

This was the best meal we had in Alaska. I ordered some sort of tofu, beets, and carrot hash off the breakfast menu. It was all sorts of delicious. The red sauce on top was really good and I liked the way they crispened the tofu. We also ordered a vegan lemon blueberry cupcake to share. Judging by other reviews I may have to give it another try. We just had soup GF had tortilla soup and I the white bean. Mine was ok, hers was awful couldn't finish it, I tried it and thought it was yuck way chemically, over spiced with cumin (and I like cumin) and left a raw bunt taste in my mouth, like too much MSG. Gastrointestinal distress ensued shortly after. Will have to try something else next time judging by the raves it gets. read more

Trip to Alaska, and tried this place out before heading off towards cruise location. This place had fairly good sandwiches. I also tried there salads. They were pre-pared so the stars are staying at 3/5.The veggies weren't fresh for the salads. read more

Back in the day, Middle Way was tiny and crowded and utterly frustrating. Now that they've expanded and remodeled, we're cool. Where they piss me off , though, is their obsession with putting cheese on all things "vegetarian." C'mon, people! Some of us are allergic to milk! They need to get a little more creative with their vegan foods, and also expand upon their vegan options. They also put avocado on everything as its main piece. (I'm allergic to that too.) Now that they've expanded the space, they should expand the menu, too. read more

I'm a little torn on this place. The wait time is so ridiculous but the food is always so good it seems worth the wait. 20-30 minutes wait is too much for my lunch break so I've started calling ahead 20-40 minutes. But even when they say they're not busy and it'll be 15-20 minutes and I still end up waiting 20 minutes or longer when I get there. read more

I usually love this place however when I went today, I ordered a Baja Bowl and it was mostly vegan nacho cheese (took over the whole dish), a small pinch of lettuce, black beans that had a lot of extra fluid around it (like an undrained can of beans) and the rice was undercooked and crunchy. Our vegan buttermilk pancakes with blueberries and vegan breakfast burrito were SO GOOOOD!!! We also ordered fresh squeezed "liquid sunshine" OJ and coffee, which was really delicious, they have a ton of syrups :) The artwork on the wall was also gorgeous. On my recent trip to Anchorage I jumped on line and checked the reviews for a breakfast spot. Middle Way Cafe was close by and got good reviews. When I received my scrambled eggs were barely warm and they looked and tasted like hotel buffet eggs. Actually, I have had better at buffet's. There was NO WAY they were freshly prepared. The toast was so cold the butter didn't melt and the mountain of potatoes looked and tasted like they were cooked MUCH earlier in the morning. You know, the shriveled up look. Very disappointed. Pretty good sandwiches here and decent coffee. The art is usually great and fun to eat and study with. It used to be that on Tuesdays there was live Irish trad music and dancing, but those days are gone. Now I don't really stop in the Cafe as much. read more

Food was mediocre but the service was horrible. One of my party ordered a latte and the server must of been high because he spilled almost half of it right in front of us and just didn't care. The table was very sticky, like it wasn't even cleaned, and my silverware had sauce on the handle even though it was wrapped in a napkin! That will be the first and last time I go there. read more

Middle Way is always crazy busy and for good reason. I love their food, drinks, and atmosphere. My only complaint is the tables are all very close together, offering very little privacy or room for one's own belongings. read more

A little vegetarian oasis in the meat based town that is anchorage. I had a great veggie burger with onion, lettuce, avocado and BBQ sauce. Burger was cooked just right, veggies seemed fresh and I really liked the sauce. Would have gotten 5 stars if the veggie burger had been made in house. read more

I'm so impressed not only with the food, but as well as the service. I came in having had a stressful day with my daughters at multiple Dr's visit. I dreaded the idea of fast-food but was worried about two Lil girls at a sit down meal. I shouldn't have over worried. The staff had an amazing box of craft goodies for the girls as we waited for our meal. It was wonderful and I felt even better as a parent that we ate a healthy meal on the go. read more

I'm not really sure why this place is so popular other than that it's "trendy". Good coffee. The menu is typical of every "all natural" or vegan style cafe I've been to, and it's expensive for what you get (a normal-sized sandwich and a small handful of chips without a dip). For the same price, I can eat a good meal at a restaurant that isn't so packed, or I can purchase the same all natural ingredients and make this sandwich at home for a week. Great little place in a fun urban/ hippie part of town. Conveniently located a few doors down from REI (which is highly dangerous if you are anything like me). I normally have the Avocado Melt which has delicious herb mayo...and is awesome if you add cranberry and turkey too! I love that their sandwiches come with the yummy, fairly healthy corn chips. Another great favorite is the Eggs Benny...so delish. I also try to have a Morning Glory juice (fresh, organic pineapple and orange blended into a puree-like juice) which can be a meal in itself sometimes. Added plus- they use K-Bay coffee. PHENOMENAL coffee!!! I am here on weekends pretty frequently and last weekend was incredibly busy and the service wasn't as great as usual, unforunately. Also, wi-fi is kind of slow but I am still grateful that they have it. Overall, Middleway is one of my go-to places :) read more

Great fresh food and friendly staff. Prices are awesome during "happy hour" - specials, smoothies, cafe drinks, and bakery items are half off from 3-6 PM. Be adventurous and try the Unicorn Bowl or Temple Bowl when it is on the specials menu. You won't be let down! I also prefer the gluten free cupcakes at this joint. My only recommendations is that they open up another location and stay open later! It can be extremely busy - you often have to poach a table as soon as someone stands up! Also, customers are confused if they should bus their own table. Most do because it is BUSY. Customers here are also very nice - will offer you their spot when leaving - but be warned to expect families with loud kids running around. read more

I started going to Middle Way when they were next to REI. Like most things in Anchorage, they grew and have lost their good vibe. First, I stopped dining in because it was too loud. I used to love the avocado melt but lately it has been seriously lacking in substance and quality. If I am going to pay 10 bucks for a sandwich the filling should be as thick as one slice of the bread. It was basically tomato, cheese, and mayo--not good. Today, I order an avocado melt and my partner a beet wrap--both were disappointing. Seriously, if your not going to put enough in the sandwich at least reduce the mayo. This is the third one I have ordered like this, I won't make that mistake again. Sorry, I hope things improve but until then I won't be back. read more

I've always loved dropping by Middle Way while commuting between Homer and Fairbanks-it's a great stop for lunch. Today I ordered the Chicken Milano sandwich and was disappointed at the two pieces of bread bookending 1 piece of chicken that was placed in front of me. This sandwich, had it been prepared with a bit more thought would have been delicious. Everything on it was tasty, but was not assembled very well. Amazing food, very unique, nice atmosphere, great selection, good coffee but unimpressed with their staff being inattentive and chatty with other workers despite the lunch rush.
