What a beautiful restaurant! My husband and I visited on Sunday afternoon. On their website they recommend making a reservation on either Resy or by calling. I checked Resy and it didn't show any available slots for brunch, but after calling the restaurant we were told that they did not have a wait so to come on in. We arrived at 12:30 and it was a smaller crowd than expected for that time period. It was a beautiful day and we opted to eat indoors, but were placed at a two top right next to the window. It was a lovely view of the grounds. We ordered a mimosa pitcher for $25. It was well mixed and had a good amount of champagne in it. I opted for the fried green tomato benedict with fresh fruit. I liked that they had many options to choose from in regard to benedicts. The sauce on it was delicious and I enjoyed the strawberries and blueberries as well. My husband opted for the double smashburger and it was awesome. We loved the caramelized onions, brioche buns, and creamy sauce on it. The fries were battered and crispy, which is our favorite. We have been here twice now. Once for the Garden Lights and dinner special, which we did in celebration of our anniversary. I love that they provided a somewhat smaller selection to help narrow down my decision making. The space is nice, it's very clean, the service is impeccable, and the food is delicious. We absolutely loved this place! We didn't have a reservation so we came right when they opened for lunch and were able to be seated quickly in the atrium style dinning room. The view of the water is so picturesque and inviting. Our server Bri was wonderful and told us all the must haves and their signature dishes. Everything was cooked to perfection. Burger was great and the bacon jam was tangy and sweet, a great addition to the burger. The star dish was the shrimp and grits. The homemade gravy they used was scrumptious. Try the restaurant at Middleton Place. I was pleasantly impressed at the quality of the food, and the setting is beautiful. We sat inside as the patio wasn't open, but both are charming spots. Our server was knowledgeable and super nice, and helped make our visit with our out of town guests most memorable. This review is only for the hassle of trying to get to the restaurant for lunch.. I called they said no reservation, 5-10 minute wait, so I went. Went in all entrances but could not get to the restaurant although I could see it! Someone told me I had to go to visitors center, then walk over..there a long field to the restaurant...what? I drove to visitor center, but get this in order to go to the restaurant you have to buy a ticket to the attractions at $35 person? Then you can go walk to the restaurant!!! Who would do that. Service is excruciatingly slow. I cannot emphasize how incredibly slow. It's not because it's a Southern thing. I am Southern, this is due to poor management. We waited 22 minutes before our waitress came to the table. We ordered immediately when she came over. The food came within 15 minutes which was a stark improvement, but that's where the highlight of the dining experience ends. The She Crab soup was extremely salty, thin, had a grainy texture, and had a strong, strong crabby flavor. No amount of sherry could help the soup. I'm not sure what happened to the quality of the food or the service since our last visit, but since this is a historical place, they should go back in time to better days. The quesadilla was inedible. Collard greens are NOT a good idea. Seriously. The iced tea and boxed crackers that came with the she crab were the best items. The cornbread came out when we were about to leave. This was the only edible item that was prepared in the kitchen - other than the tea. I would recommend getting there 30-45 before your reservation time to take in the stunning views using the very well maintained walkways. The restaurant itself is charming to say the least. The bar served up a near perfect old fashioned. The wait staff was great. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. Last but not least, the food was fresh and wonderfully flavored. A mix of southern classics and seafood dishes can be found on the menu with a few steak options as well. It's a pricey meal so I personally save this spot for special occasions. Middleton Place Restaurant is one of the most beautiful dining settings I've ever experienced. Looking out from the table feels like something out of a fairy tale, like you've been dropped into a European estate. Then walking the grounds afterward, especially around the main house and gardens, genuinely feels like stepping back in time. The food absolutely delivered. Middleton Place Restaurant is on the plantation grounds and serves as a nice lunch option. They have floor to ceiling windows in the dining room, which offers a nice natural feel. You can also opt to eat outside. We did not, as it was quite hot the day of our visit. You can either order a la carte or from the buffet. The buffet was $31, which made it the easy choice for me. The buffet included a drink, a meal of traditional Southern cuisine, and dessert. The buffet area was clean and well-kept. Wow - this place has gotten significantly worse. What a disappointment. The only edible item was the cornbread which was gummy and took over 20 minutes to come out. The she crab soup was extremely thin and grainy with a very strong crab flavor. It went from being one of the best she crab soups in Charleston to nearly inedible. This was one of the worst items I've ever eaten in my life. Do not get the quesadilla unless you LOVE collard greens. The service is exceptionally slow and not overly friendly. Went for lunch one day and dinner the next due to staying at the Inn. Each visit some items were delicious while others were lacking. The mushroom toast was amazing! But my crab roll was nothing special and bland. My husband's pulled pork plate was overall better but again, nothing special. The greens on the side were delicious! For dinner, I chose the scallops and he chose the butchers cut. The actual scallops were amazing! But most items on the menu contained pork mixed in. I'll eat it, but not my favorite. I was able to pick around it on this dish but could see others having issues due to religious reasons, diets, etc. The steak was cooked well and hubby enjoyed his steak. But the Apricot derby cocktail was the winning item of this meal. Service was friendly but a bit dry. And of course loved the views! My boyfriend, Eli, took me to Middleton Plantation. It was so pretty. We got there around 1:30pm. We did a tour with the animals first. We were hungry, so after that, we stopped by the restaurant. They had an hour long wait. They took my name and number, and said they'd text me when my table was ready. We decided to explore the gardens, fields, and water ways. We thought we had an hour so we wandered pretty far. As we were walking, I noticed I got a text. It said my table was ready and I had 10 minutes to claim my spot before they give it to someone else. We literally ran about a half a mile to get to this restaurant. We were hungry and there was no where else to eat there. We made it a couple minutes late, but they fortunately still sat us at a table. All they really have here is a small buffet. They had barbecue, fried fish, and fried chicken with the bones still in it. They had side options such as macaroni and cheese, hoppin johns, collard greens, etc. It is very southern style food. Had a wonderful dinner at Middleton restaurant and we didn't have to pay for garden entrance if you are here for di bed. The place was very quaint and the view of the garden from the restaurant was so lovely. The host and the waiters were helpful and friendly. They served dinner rolls and they were made by local bakery , Saffron bakery. We had scallops as our appetizer and they were sit on top of mashed yolk, mustard, mayo and Lima beans with bits of crunchy bacons, so so good. For our dinner, we had local grouper with red lentils and egg plants and butcher cut sirloin about 7-8 oz on top of creamy mashed potatoes and green beans. Both entrees were so good. For dessert, I chose the chocolate mousse cake and all their dessert are from Saffron bakery. The restaurant is a non profit restaurant so the restaurant didn't charge us tax on our bill. We were so surprise and very happy about it so if you don't know this then now you know :) I really recommend this place and we'll be back with the kids next time. read more

I have been to Middleton Place over a dozen times and I cannot believe I am just now discovering how delicious the restaurant is! In a beautiful spot in the place, the walls are glass windows so you have a phenomenal view of the nature outside. Best fried fritters I have ever eaten! The portions are just right. I really enjoyed both the shrimp + grits as well as the fried chicken entree with mac and cheese, collard greens + corn bread. Tried some of the catfish... not bad, but not something I would get again. The back of the menus provide you with history of the menu + the chef behind it. I like to enjoy a cocktail before I get my food, but that was only complaint, and we completely understand being short staffed and all the things going on. Anyways, for our appetizer we ordered the Fried green tomatoes with the best pimento I've ever had and allepo chili. Holy crap were they good, they were perfectly fried, not oily and the topping perfectly complemented the tomatoes instead of taking away from them. Next, was the Fried chicken plate which was served with pork braised collards, they weren't soaking wet and also perfectly seasoned, the Mac & cheese which was just the right creamy and the and corn bread. Our son stole most of the corn bread but I used what little was left to sop up any extra sauces from anything haha Lastly, we ordered their "blow your socks off" Blackened Carolina Catfish which came with adluh grits and it was topped with a spicy tomato gravy.... man oh man..... was everything incredible. The portions were huge and I'd go back for the same three dishes , though I need to try others now. Their menu is chosen around the season, and they were still serving the summer menu. So go!!! There is a full service bar. We had the shrimp and grits and a salad. The food was good. The serving sizes are moderate to smallish. Can I just say this is the second time we have come to eat here and we have been severely disappointed both times. I gave a good review the first time given our food was good but in all honesty i would never eat here again. Today we gave our name at 1:30. We were told 15 min wait. We waited 40 minutes came in several times to check and the hostess was never to be found or just kept telling us to wait. Many guests left after waiting just like us saying they were gonna miss their tours and would have to starve for them because by the time the tours ended the restaurant would be closed (they close at 3 on sundays). I wanted to sit outside (which i mentioned) she finally sat us after 40 minutes inside where half the tables were empty and so was the outside. Another 10 minutes go by no one brought us water. I had to ask one of the 3 servers that keep walking by us to bring us some. Then another server came to ask if we have been attended and after that our server said she just found us. Even though we had been sitting next to the table she had been serving this whole time. We put our food in and 20 minutes later she told us the food was being plated. 20 minutes after that she informs us that a server took our food to another table and they had to remake everything. I mean at this point I thought we were on a prank show. We got our food pretty much right before closing and were the last ones there. The server did help us out but the lack of service from everyone was kind of unbelievable. We saw tables leaving because they sat there forever, people walking around trying to find their servers and I can honestly say i will avoid this restaurant at all costs. I'd suggest bring snacks and your own food because I have never had this lack of service anywhere. I only ever leave good reviews but today I hope this changes things for the restaurant because the money we pay to go to middleton , our dining should be top notch. read more

A $200 Sysco lunch- and it would have been more if I didn't ask for one item off. It was very misleading on the menu. All of the items we got were written down wrong and brought to us incorrectly. Our group had to be split up because they didn't have enough tables and our teenagers told us they didn't receive their whole meals, but we paid for it! We even had a food allergy and there were tiny bit of it in a sauce that they never mention. So it made one of us sick after the fact. We found out because it was on another product that a child would eat because she didn't like the sauce. And the service was horrible! We only saw our waitress 2x the whole time. To order because she was so late and to fix a problem with our food and we paid right then and there because it was so late and we had to leave- the food took forever to get to us. 22% gratuity was automatically given to her because our group was larger than 6. And the noise was extreme because the only tables that could fit us was where loud music was playing live. In our group we have someone who has to wear noise canceling ear phones when it's too loud or they could have seizures. So please avoid coming here....food was nasty for what you get. Middleton is one of the most magical places in the lowcountry and their restaurant keeps the magic going. We have eaten there dozens of time and each time we have an incredible experience. I made reservations for my wife and our family for Mother's Day Brunch, but when we went, they couldn't seat us in time to serve us before they closed, so the manager, Mark called us and let us pick a day to have the entire restaurant and grounds to ourselves with our photographer! When we got there, we were met by the owner! She personally apologized and said they wanted to make up for Mother's Day. They treated us like absolute Royalty, and then just when I was getting ready to pay at the end of our amazing dining experience, the server stopped me and said, "I cannot allow you to pay, because Mark said he wants to personally pick up your tab."
