Huh...I thought it would be a lot better for the price. The oyster shooters were amazing and I loved my grapefruit crush. For food, I ordered the Maryland crab soup and the seafood tower for two as an entree. The soup was yummy with big chunks of crab, but the portion size was small. The seafood tower was very so-so. The seafood did not taste very fresh like I expected. The calamari was not warm and even a bit soggy. It was overall okay, but I expected better. The service was fabulous, though. read more

Our server Vince was great. We were looking at the posted menu and he made the effort to walk out and give us the real menus so we didn't have to bend over. Food was very good. They did an Italian take on fried green tomatoes which was delicious. We also enjoyed the seafood tower. It took us an hour to get our food. 20 minutes to take our order, 20 minutes to get us our drinks, 20 more minutes to serve us our food. The waitress was defensive and the manager was unconcerned. It was okay, they had seating last minute on a hot MD day. The staff was friendly, not too attentive, but overall it was a good experience. Just don't have to go to the restroom, it was two flights of stairs up to the top of the establishment. I felt sorry for some of the older patrons. read more

I LOVE crab, so I was very excited to try all the crab dip and crab cakes in town. We started off with the crab dip and crab balls. The crab balls were delish, but I wouldn't say the same of the crab dip. The dip had little crab meat and was served with ritz crackers. For $15, I expected a lot more dip and toasted baguettes. It was just ok, I wouldn't order it again. I ordered the steam pot full of crabs, shrimp, corn, potatoes. Yummy! Not spectacular, but still enjoyable drenched in butter. The corn was just bland. I'm giving Middleton Tavern three stars, but mainly because of the bartenders. They're friendly and attentive, even when it's busy. I used to frequent Middleton Tavern because they had great oyster shooters. They used to be $0.99 each, included a short beer and the oysters were shucked to order. Unfortunately, the price has gone up to $2.50 each and the oysters are out of a can. Very disappointing for Annapolis. read more

I love this place and the Rockfish with crab. They have great seafood and wonderful salads. The beer and drinks are awesome. I have been here over 50 times and only had one bad experience (problem with a new employee who was clueless). Definitely worth the money and time to park. Love it. read more

Stopped here for Sunday brunch and sat on the patio. Great people watching, but it smelled like New Orleans' Bourbon St and there were just a few too many flies hovering about. My breakfast potatoes tasted as though they were prepared in toilet water. My waiter's shirt was stained, which isn't so bad in and of itself...but it further contributed to the overwhelming sense of 'dirty'. I left with an upset stomach. I was incredibly pleased with the impromptu luncheon we took here. The hostess was kind of weird, but once we got a table, we were happy. Good sever. Calamari is ok. Not great, but definitely not bad at all. I will never forget the pistachio encrusted trout with roasted tomatoes and artichokes on it along with rice... I trust the guys in the kitchen fer sherrr. Showed up to Annapolis on a whim with the lady. After walking the streets and received some suggestions, we decided on Middleton because of it's outdoor seating and view of the harbor. After a dozen oysters I found myself with a horrific stomach ache and lucky for me, Annapolis keeps the bathrooms at their parking garage clean! Stay away at all costs. read more

Great location and very cool, old building. Our water had no ice until we got "fresh" refills. My son ordered a double Burger and it was small, bland and he literally was given about 8 fries. We asked for more and they obliged at no charge because my lunch arrived so much later than every one else's. Everyone was almost done by the time my food arrived. I ordered the seafood flat bread which was just OK. Hardly any seafood and I had to add a ton of salt for flavour. My parents ordered the chicken melt and they said it was fine. We love this place to eat every time we are in Annapolis. Fun bar with bands on weekends too. Not inexpensive but worth every nickel. We did get seated right away which was nice but crowded. and I waited a long time for my Bloody Mary and had to ask several times for water. I just want to say we love Middleton Taverns food and have been coming for over 20 years, but our experience this past weekend was terrible. The host was very obnoxious and very rude. He would make facial expressions when you weren't looking. When you asked for a table (and there was many open) it was like you were bothering him. After we got seated a table of six got seated next to us and one of the men had a walker. For some reason they all got up and left. After they left the host decided to mock the man with the walker and make fun of him in from of a bunch of employees. It was disgusting to see and from of some of the other comments he should be fired. If I was that man with the walker I would have charged him with discrimination. This host does not represent your restaurant and should not be working there. read more

Had dinner here least night with two other couples. They advertise the special and when four of us ordered it they told us there were only two left. Three of the six entrees were over cooked. Their prices are not inexpensive and the quality of the food was mediocre at best. There are many better places to eat in Annapolis. read more

location is great for this historic (second oldest still in operation pub in America) tavern ... the raw bar is nice and drinks are solid, but that's where it ends! I had lunch there the other day for the first (and last) time in years! I ordered what I thought would be a safe bet, and was recommended by the server as "her favorite", Cesar salad with seafood ($18). what came out was institutional tasting at best with bad dressing! Service was unmemorable at best and her taste in food are obviously now in question as well. read more

The food was good. I got the el Cubano sandwich ($11.00), excellent. My husband got the Juicy Lucy (or Lucy Juicy?) burger, he loved it. My kids got grilled cheese and pb&j (they are 1 and 4) and our guests got fish and chips and croissant club. While I expected the food to be expensive I did not expect my kids apple juices to cost more than a soda or bottles root beer. For 3 root beers - $9, 1 soda - $3.50 and 2 apple juices - $8.50. I'm sorry but $4.25 for apple juice? If I had known the price I would have gotten them water. So I gave 4 stars because of the cost of the juice. Not sure why anyone would rate this place anything less for what Middleton Tavern is supposed to be. I've been here multiple times and have yet to have a bad meal or service. From their raw oysters and steamed muscles for an app to their sea food and burger selection for main course, it's always satisfying and delicious. If you like beer go with the Oyster Ale, it's always fresh. Fireplace inside, and a unique decor to match for those cooler days. A nice patio outside as well when you want to people watch in the summertime. read more

I think this place might need a turnover of current management. Food is mediocre at best and the prices are absurd. In my opinion, the only reason it's still in business (read the pages of bad reviews) is the location, the tourists who don't check Yelp and the fact that it's so historic. As for the service, our wine came in glasses with lipstick marks. We complained and received a new glass with no apology and no discount on check. One would have sufficed but neither is unacceptable. We are locals and its a shame we will need to write this place off and tell our friends to stay far far away. read more
