Although the food wasn't awful, it certainly wasn't worth the price. Crab dip came with nabisco crackers and it may have been the smallest size crab dip I have ever got. The crab cake was very good. BUT the waiter didn't write anything down and had to come back multiple times to ask us what we wanted. And not just us the surround 2 tables as well. After a night of wrong beers, and long waiting empty drink glasses I would have to say I am less than satisfied. read more

Disappointing.........we had dinner there last December and it was good. After tonight we would not go back. Service was terrible.......there were 5 of us having dinner and the waiter walked away after taking 4 orders. EVERYTHING was very slow......drinks, dinner, the check. Some food was good........clams, steamed shrimp, others not so much........pasta with way too much lemon, salmon that was just too tough. Food was decent ...over priced but fair. The drinks were decent again overpriced we paid $10 for a bloody mary...the pickled veggies were so so. The ahi/avocado appetizer needed some seasoning or spice. I'm from Hawaii and we know fresh Ahi...this one at Middleton Tavern needs a little work. The seafood salad was just a bed of greens and a few shrimp/seafood...not much else. The fettuccini alfredo was a WINNER...and to be honest earned the 2 stars. not really excited about coming back as there are so many many other restaurants to try in Annanpolis. read more

Had an excellent lunch here. Crab dip was awesome. The salad selection was excellent. The setting is fantastic. Had lunch by a fire on a cold day, who can complain? Place is very well decorated for Christmas as well. I will be coming back. Couldn't give it a 5 because I only had lunch and haven't had dinner there yet. read more

Redemption. After my initial post, the manager of Middleton reached out to offer her apologies and to get a better understanding of the mishap. She was apologetic and genuinely wanted to make her customers happy. In short, she handled it "the right way." We returned this past Sunday for brunch and were not disappointed. The restaurant was very busy because of the St. Patrick's Day parade but the service was friendly and enjoyable. The bloody mary's were very good and everyone enjoyed their meal. The crab cake remains better than most. While Middleton may not be my favorite restaurant in Annapolis, we will certainly be back. read more

This place has really gone down hard. Non existent service, even when who I assume was the manager was present. Took nearly 20 min for a waiter to come, despite several sitting in chairs. Food was not served as described and had to flag down a server to correct, once one who was working actually appeared. Didn't matter though another 20 min go by before you see them again and then still not solved. Just bad management all around. read more

To say I was shocked at the lousy service and food is an understatement. I walked in with a party of 8 and was seated relatively quickly, so I had high hopes. We were greeted by our waitress who looked like she hated everything about her job and her life. She promptly told us there would be an automatic 18% tip added to our bill since there were 8 of us. She didn't even welcome us. She also didn't take a drink order--she just brought us all water and smartly asked if we wanted a pitcher so she wouldn't have to keep refilling our glasses. For an automatic tip on what would probably have been 4 soda orders and 4 alcoholic orders, I was shocked she didn't bother to ask. Her other customers received drinks. She never smiled and never came back to see if everything was ok. I had to ask a different server for butter for the baked potatoes that came with 2 platters. How do you provide a baked potato with no toppings? The food was mediocre. Would never go back. I had to use the rest room before leaving. As a final goodbye, the ladies' room, which was FILTHY, only had one toilet working. The other was overflowing with feces. I notified a waitress, but she obviously could not have cared less. We had a party of 12 at 2:00 pm on a Saturday. We waited a half an hour to order, another hour to be served and they missed out on 3 of the 12 orders. Even worse, the manager never came up to apologize and when my wife complained to the host, he yelled at her. There are too many good places nearby to put up with such terrible service. So, again, we checked this place out on a very warm day in Annapolis. One of our friends wanted to sit outside so we did. The covering of the outside area made it pretty comfortable and there seemed to be a nice breeze that came from the water since we were so close. I ordered the crab cakes which came with two large crab cakes, a side dish filled with yummy vegetables, and an amazing salad with their house vinaigrette. I remember looking at the name of the vinaigrette and thinking that it may not be very good, but I decided to go with it anyway and it was super delicious! The crab cakes had very little filler (if any at all) and were delicious! The salad and vegetables were tasty and very fresh tasting; it seemed like the chef had visited the local farmers market that morning. My friend got the seafood crepe which I thought was crazy, but it too was delicious! The only problem that I had with the place, was the wait staff wasn't super attentive; we basically were refilling our own water glasses and having to stop random servers to help us which was great that they all worked as a team. The waitress also gave us the free oyster shooter which was amazing for any who check in with the Yelp app. I'm definitely going to make this a regular stop when I'm in Annapolis. read more

Staff is friendly, attentive, courteous. However, they took scallop sliders off the menu! Big mistake. However, upon request and since they weren't busy at the time, the chef did make them for us so I'll give them three stars for appeasing the customer. And they were delicious! Let me first star this review with saying that this is the second time I have been to Middleton Tavern. I did hope that this place would be better for our group but I was sadly mistaken. It seems that Middleton Tavern thinks that the beautiful view of downtown Annapolis is enough to allow the below average service and food. I am always drawn to this beautiful outdoor finding but if you are looking for a meal, then move about your business. If you are looking for a drink or two with maybe an appetizer then I would say, "take a shot." Our dinner started with an appetizer of raw oysters. The table agreed that this was a good start to the dinner. Once this was removed from the table, the sad and even disappointing house salad was served on a bread plate. The salad consisted of 3 bites of food. And if portion size is something your are looking for then please find something else. Case and point.....Once the table's food had arrived, the crab cakes were smaller than the bun, the steak frita was smothered in something that was less delectable than cheese wiz, and of course, the one salad entree that was ordered came with half a chicken breast, two cubed pieces of cucumber, served on a plate slightly bigger than a bread plate. Please let me note that this was over $13. Matter of fact, I took a picture of the dish showing how one potato chip was more than the radius of the dish. How is this considered to be a salad entree? Matter of fact, we had three children at our table and their food was more appetizing than the adult meals. I would like to say that I do hope that Middleton Tavern can figure out how to make this place exceptional or even just good. It has the makings of being a top restaurant but currently lives off the idea of having an amazing location. Even if it was on citycents.com for half off, I would not buy it. read more

It gets one star for the location and the cozy ambiance. The service is terrible,slow and absolutely no idea of how to serve a table. The server was on some type of upper as he kept shouting at us and was terribly twitchy. The food is over priced and the menu is not too exciting. While some plates are almost reasonable. We had two appetizers (crab balls and crab dip). There were 5 incredible small crab balls and they charged 17.95. The crab dip was about two tablespoons of a greasy mix of butter, mayo and cheese for 14.95. You add the two club sodas, taxes and tip and it came close to $50. We have given this place 3 tries and the two prior ones were quite similar, to sum it up is just a tourist trap. read more

I was very pleased with what I ordered, the burger. Very delicious! I was hungry but looking for something small and I didnt see a lot of choices on the menu. That would be my only complaint. We passed by this restaurant while strolling in Annapolis on a Friday evening and decided to give it a try. I wish we had read the Yelp reviews before we went in. It was completely underwhelming and way overpriced. My husband and I shared the crab dip as an appetizer. While the dip itself was tasty, they only served it with herbed crackers. The flavor in the crackers overshadowed the taste of the dip. For his meal, my husband ordered their burger, which he said was good. The french fries looked good but were almost stale like they had been sitting out for awhile. He ordered crab gravy with them, but when it came out it tasted like a pasty version of Maryland crab soup. There were chunks of carrots and corn in it -- not what we expected out of a gravy. My entree, priced at $30, was the jumbo lump crabcakes on fried green tomatoes. It was so disappointing. The crabcakes had lump meat in them but there was so much filler that they tasted gummy and pasty. The fried green tomatoes were not warm or crispy - it was hard to cut through them since they were so rubbery. They also were not seasoned at all which did not help. The side of vegetables was limp and swimming in oil. As for the service - the waiter seemed like he didn't care about our experience there. He never asked how our food was and wasn't very attentive. Take your business to one of the other higher rated restaurants in Annapolis. This one just wasn't worth the time or money. read more

Just ok food that is very over priced. I was pretty disappointed in the chopped salad. It was the size a of a side salad and made up of mostly ice burg lettuce. I expected something better from a $10 salad. I would recommend Middleton's for drinks or happy hour, but not for a meal. read more

Have lived in the area for 15 years, and while I've had lunch here a few times had never tried the dinner menu til last night. I think I'll stick to lunch. Service was extremely slow. We sat for over 20 minutes before our waiter even came by to take our drink order. He blamed the delay on doing tableside Ceasar salad at another table. Our food was decent, but nothing to write home about, and we felt overpriced. We noticed that the stuffed flounder was listed on both the menu and the nightly specials list. It was $1 more on the special. Odd. We were easily there for over 2 hours, and watched others seated, served, and leave over the course of our meal. I will say though, that the staff was attentive to me after a server dropped a tray of drinks for a nearby table and one hit me. The manager (I'm guessing, as I don't recall him introducing himself) comp'd my drink and a dessert. Not expected, but appreciated. read more

My wife and I had a $50 gift certificate to here from our son. Went on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The outside dining room was jammed packed with drunken tourists so we opted to eat inside, which was surprisingly empty considering that every other restaurant in the area was full. The waitress was fairly good and we got our drinks fast. ($9 for a mediocre glass of Shiraz.) My wife is allergic to seafood so we didn't order an appetizer as all of them were seafood based. I was a little surprised to see that they had USDA PRIME (aged 45 days) (basted in butter) sirloin steaks on the menu, so I ordered it. (Cooked Medium) My wife ordered the Stacked Caprese salad. Wait time on the entrees was fairly quick. (15 minutes) Well, my wife and I looked at each other as we were served and both of us saw total disappointment in each others eyes. Her Caprese salad was indeed stacked tomatoes and mozzarella, but the tomatoes were thick pink slabs of unripened tomatoes. No garnishes or sides came with it and it looked very bare and unappetizing. As for my $43 market value USDA PRIME sirloin... It was a joke. For one, it came out on a platter with nothing but the steak. The waitres saw my dismay and said she would be back with the two sides that came with it. She came back with a small dish of green beans and a small dish of 3 baby potatoes slathered with some kind of bright yellow cheese sauce. (The menu indicated I was supposed to get spicy aioli fries with the steak.) There is no way that that piece of meat was Prime. I have had a Prime cut of beef and this was way off in left field. (And if it was, it was Prime Shoe Leather.) It was over cooked and tough, and the flavor reminded me of a Golden Corral steak. The green beans were VERY undercooked and the potatoes tasted worse than they looked. My wife and I discussed the experience on the drive home and no surprise, we will never go back here. There are too many great places to eat 10 yards away from this restaurant. What a waste of a gift certificate. read more

We came here aiming for fish. Initially the menu looked promising, but after sitting down we realised it was pricey and sort of limited. Should've pulled the plug then, but had two younger kids that needed feeding, so decided to make the best of it. The food came in good time, service was average, and the food was definitely overpriced. Sesame seed encrusted salmon was missing the sesame seeds, cod was greasy and looked like it had been left to sit in the kitchen for a bit. Apparently the crab cakes were ok. I enjoyed the hot chocolate under the heater watching life go by, but don't expect to be going there again. read more

This place could be great just because of the location, however it was a huge flop for me. The staff seem to be lacking a proper leader and there doesn't seem to be any communication between anyone. The manager is constantly flitting around doing the same thing right before or after the servers, often throwing them off from what they were doing. No one seems happy to here. Above that, the food just isn't great. It felt like I was eating just to not be hungry, not to enjoy a meal and a dining experience. I feel for all the servers here because it must be terrible, and it really shows show unhappy and poorly managed they are. read more

Would give it zero stars if I could. Terrible and overpriced food. I had the seafood Caesar salad for $17.99 which had a small amount of lettuce, two shrimp, two small scallops, which I had to look for, and maybe a tablespoon of crab meat. My kids had a cheesesteak sub which was just ok. Our calamari appetizer had a hair in it!! We chose Middleton since we wanted to sit outside but regretted going there. Also, bathrooms were dirty which to me is usually a reflection of the restaurant. Will not go back! read more

Came to town for a wedding at the academy. I know it's a touristy place and you expect to spend a bit more for just about everything. We decided to have breakfast at this restaurant. I ordered the eggs benedict $12. When I received my order the canadian bacon was sliced like a piece of deli meat, paper thin. I was not happy. You have an obligation to deliver an honest plate of food to your customers. Not asking for excess just what you would consider acceptable if you were the customer. Bottom line, I paid $12 for 2 poached eggs and an english muffin......BIG RIP OFF ! read more

Terrible. Fries tasted a day old and were hard. Salad came without dressing. Crab dip came with Ritz crackers. The food tastes like diner food but you're paying 5x the price.
