My family and I have used Glenn (Midgley Mortuary) 4 times I think in the last 20ish years. I just used him for my mom yesterday. Glenn is the best at what he does in a difficult business. Glenn Midgley is a very special man who owns and operates this very sensitive type of business. We live hours away from him and from our deceased family member who passed away with no one else to help when he sadly passed away. Glenn's mortuary was referred to us on a list provided by the LA County Coroner's office. I called every one of them. None came even close to the comfort and helping hand I found in Glenn over the phone. I knew right away he was the right choice. Everything was handled over the phone as it was what they call 'a direct cremation' which is a very simple, and inexpensive, way to handle this sensitive matter. He would even be able to arrange special delivery of the cremation remains but we opted to go into town to receive them. Everything can be handled from afar is my point in case you live out of town. He also will perform complete funeral ceremonies tailored to your and your loved one's desires. He has been doing this for decades and still is as caring and understanding a person you would wish for under such sensitive circumstances. Whether having an elaborate funeral with floral arrangements, a beautiful casket or urn, headstone, clergy, speaker, cemetery arrangements, holy cards, announcements, etc.,, Glenn can do everything for you making it easy for you at a very difficult time. I cannot recommend Glenn Midgley and his services highly enough!!! In late October when my Mother passed away we thought she had prepaid and pre-arranged services elsewhere. We found out the day after she passed that this was incorrect. Imagine thinking for 21 yrs everything would be "taken care of" then finding out you had to start from scratch and on short notice all while grieving. A year ago when my Mother-in-law passed we had gone to ABC Casket Factory on Indiana St in Los Angeles to purchase her casket. So, I called them to make an appt. to go to their factory to select a casket for my Mother. In speaking to Isabel, ( she and her husband are owners) I mentioned our predicament. She immediately provided me with three references but told me to FIRST call Glenn Midgley at Gardenside. She said she was certain I would find him easy to talk to and very informative/helpful. Well, that was a HUGE understatement! I hung up the phone, checked Yelp, saw just one reference on him but a very very positive one ( which is all it takes!) and called Glenn. I explained our situation while Glenn listened. He was so sincere (and not in that condescending 'you've just had a loss' mortuary sales talk) kind and informative. I was provided with clear and direct answers to questions and up-front prices. (By the way, his website www.midgleymortuary.com provides all pricing info as well) I felt his prices were excellent. In fact I believe his were the most reasonable of anyone we contacted. He immediately put me at ease and I knew before the conversation was over; I had found our solution! This was even knowing there would be challenges to both he and I finding accommodations that met all our family's requests. Talking to Glenn was like talking to a good friend; he has such a "no problem" attitude. We elected to have the funeral service at a " house of worship" and we needed to have it on a Sunday! Glenn immediately went to work calling his references to assist us. He has a vast amount of all sorts of contacts too, whether you are looking for a Catholic, Christian, Jewish or another clergy. We had a mix of both Catholic and Jewish traditions to incorporate. I was very impressed with Glenn's prior experience and knowledge of Jewish traditions and customs. My sister and I went to the Gardenside Mortuary office and met with Glenn to finalize the paperwork. Glenn had to interact with me, my sister and my brother who lived out of the area, handling numerous individuals and inquiries; all while being very accommodating. In the end, I found a church in the Long Beach/Lakewood area for the funeral service which allowed us to rent their smaller chapel on a Sunday afternoon for a very reasonable fee. My Mother was to be buried with my Father at the National Cemetery in Riverside on the following Tuesday. Glenn took care of that as well. The obituary Glenn wrote on my Mom for insertion into the newspaper was so beautiful and special. There was no request or question that went unaddressed or unattended. He literally took care of everything for us at the most difficult time ever. He was always available by phone to answer any questions/concerns. I am so grateful for his caring and professional services. With some people you can just tell they are in the " right" profession for them and this is certainly the case with Glenn. Death is never easy and one thing that is certain is that it is not a matter of " if" you will need these services but rather a matter of " when." If there were 10 stars to give out I would give Glenn 10 stars! My mother was terminal and I knew the time was near. I was so overwhelmed with the thought of arranging a funeral for my mother, I didn't know where to begin. After reading the reviews of Midgley Gardenside Mortuary we decided to make an appointment with Glenn. He came to our house and the minute we started talking, we knew we would be using him. He told us what we should do step by step when the time comes. Within a week, we called him to tell him my mother had passed. I had pre-ordered a casket from ABC Caskets and he arranged delivery as well as ordering the flower spray for the casket. Isabelle from ABC asked what mortuary I was going with and when I told her Midgley Gardenside, she told me Glenn is the most honest person she knows. She reassured me that we made the right choice. Unfortunately my passed 12/16/14 and we arranged the funeral to be on 12/27/14. Because it was during the holiday season, the volt company told us 4 days before the funeral was to happen that they wouldn't be working on the 27th due to holiday family visits. I panicked & didn't know what do. I had already given the funeral date & time to everyone that would be attending. Glenn went out of his way to set up an account with another volt company, had to drive a cashiers check to them all in order to accommodate us. I don't know any funeral director that would do this! They would simply tell us that we had to change the date. Glenn made a traumatic experience of loosing my mother, issues with volt company into a Devine experience. He took every burden off my shoulders and created a beautiful well done funeral. I know God directed me to him and I will forever be greatful. There will never b enough ways/words to pay the compliments Glenn deserves. From the 1st phone call I made, I knew he was the one. Luckily in our situation my father in law was still alive. We were referred by ABC Casket to Glenn in preparation of services. He completely exceeded our hopes of a great memorial service and met out financial abilities. What an amazing funeral home!! I wish I could give Glenn 20 stars! We had to go through an incredibly difficult time when one of my family members unexpectedly passed away from cancer and the casket company recommended him to me. I was hesitant to call because I know how bad funeral homes can be but I am SO glad I called. I met with Glenn and went over all the details and knew immediately that this was the right person to handle the funeral for me. What can I say? He goes out of his way to help you and really cares about making sure everything is taken care of. I expected to have to do a good deal of work in preparing everything because I didn't have a big budget to handle a funeral but Glenn and his team took care of EVERYTHING! All I had to do was buy an outfit and deliver it to him. Glenn even helped me recommend the size of the suit and told me what to buy and how to measure everything. Glenn is the only person I will ever deal with again if I ever have to go through such a horrible experience because as bad as it is, Glenn makes everything so much easier. The last thing you want to worry about is dealing with a bad funeral home and I didn't have to worry about a single thing with Glenn helping me. I cannot recommend Glenn enough and wish there was a better way to communicate how amazing this man is! The Midgley Gardenside Mortuary is an amazing funeral home and I cannot see how anyone can have a bad experience. There are literally not enough words to describe Glenn Midgley and his funeral services. Our beautiful 23 year old daughter died the day after her birthday. We live out of state, our daughter died suddenly at a hospital in Los Angeles. Our daughter had Cystic Fibrosis. We had heard horror stories over the years about children dying and having to use a strange funeral home with horrible results. In shock over our daughter's sudden death, we asked the hospital for a recommendation and that's how God brought the wonderful, incredible Glenn into our lives. We were different than the usual family, we had three younger kids all trying to cope and plan the send off of a lifetime for their sister. JL, our daughter, had felt her time was near but she wasn't sick. She nonetheless had made plans just in case. She ended up being right. Everything she feared or wanted Glenn took care of. Modesty was a main worry for a young girl, Glenn and his lovely assistant made sure that my baby was treated like a princess. She was taken to the airport and I noticed when she arrived home that they had put soft clothes under the straps to protect her on the flight. There was not one single thing I could find that they hadn't done. If we asked for something unusual, Glenn never blinked, instead reminding us his job was to take care of our daughter and us. We had given our daughter everything we had. Glenn took her and made sure she was ready to go home, waiting at the airport until she was on the plane. He texted when she left and again when she arrived. He did such a good job that she looked like a beautiful Disney Sleeping Beauty. I can NOT recommend anyone beside Glenn. At that point we didn't care how much it cost but opening the statement was ridiculous. In LA we had expected it to be expensive compared to the south. His part was 1/5 what the part at home was. He's beyond reasonably priced. More importantly to our family, he has become a friend, calling from time to time to see how things were going especially in the first year. Before Glenn I didn't know funeral home owners could be heroes. Now I know there is at least one. As far as we're concerned, he was a miracle sent to us in our darkest hour. Glenn, thank you. I want to thank Glenn for such wonderful service him and his staff provided for us. We were aiming for a very simple fair priced burial service for my dear brother, while still keeping it as dignified and stress free. Needless to say, we got that and more from Glenn. I didn't have a viewing per se, However Glenn accommodated us with a very private family viewing and we were very happy with the care my brother received in his last hours here on earth. I can guarantee you that if you need anything from Glenn, he can pretty much get it for you at a lower price. He is the man to call when you need to have your loved one out of the hospital, nursing facility, etc. as soon as possible. We only had 4 hours to remove my brother from the nursing home, which is standard practice from what I understand. I knew from past experiences with ABC Casket, that they would refer me to th right person, and I was correct. I do suggest you speak to him first to weigh your options. I find that it's important to start calling around for your burial needs because it can be costly. You might as well start planning when you know death is imminent, one should not be shy and think about hurting other loved ones, you'll definitely regret it if you do. Take it from me, it definitely costs more to buy the burial services and products after the fact. You would be amazed how much you would be saving by planning ahead. I definitely will use Midgley Gardenside Mortuary's services, however, I hope it is not soon. I have to add that Glenn is such a polite, humble human being that I had the pleasure of meeting.
