I used to love coming to Midnight Diner when I came in town but the management has made this my last visit. Food was still good but they are not giving you the value for your dollar anymore. Small portions are not what this place was known for but now leaving still hungry is very possible. I ordered a half order of french toast to go with my eggs grits livermush and biscuit and they brought me out a single slice of texas toast size challah bread cut in half and said that was two slices of French toast. Then the waitress tried to tell me that was how they always did it. I may not live here anymore but I didn't go senile. That is not true, the last time I came (last year) my friend ordered the full order of French toast and it wouldn't fit on the plate because there was four full slices of french toast on the plate. I should have taken a picture of the poor pathetic slice of bread cut in half but I was hungry and ate it before I thought to take a picture. They must have changed the vendor they buy the challah from because this was a slice of challah that came out of a loaf bag at the supermarket. Not happy. read more

I went to this place on a Sunday, mid afternoon. It was packed. I was visiting out of town from Atlanta, and I need a quick place to grab a bit to eat. I found this place on Yelp. Long story short, the experience was so-so. The food was okay. I had an omelette with grits (which were amazing). My main issue with this place was the staff. There just seemed to be a lot going on. There was a lot of playing in, scratching, and flinging of hair... and not a hair net or plastic glove to be found. I just had to look away. I have no problem with hair styles (I wear a braided bun myself), but the hygiene (or lack there of) in that place was terrible. Uptown Charlotte's 24 hour diner, it's a traditional one. Right down to the chrome all over the outside. Nicely placed with a large parking lot. Very close to the stadium, so expect it to be filled with fans wearing their Black, Blue and Silver on game days. Booths and a few tables inside. Traditional diner menu with burgers and eggs and things. I did see other people with waffles and wings, but it was actually breakfast time when I was here. I chose to go with the "Uptown" which is two eggs and hash browns with a waffle. Eggs were cooked perfectly, the hash browns were both crunchy and soft. The waffle, however, was beyond desciption. Crispy on the outside, flully inside, it was still nice and hot to melt the butter and it soaked up the hot syrup. Excellent flavor. Service was great. My favorite diner in Charlotte Bar None. I eat here all the time. As far as diners go, you can't ask for much more. The fried chicken wings are my go to here. In my opinion these are some of the best fried chicken wings Charlotte has to offer (Price's Chicken Coop is my number one for plain fried chicken wings in Charlotte). I also enjoy their omelets and their hashbrowns (Pro Tip: You've got to get the hasbrowns with onions, cheese and ham. Trust me!!!). Their pancakes are solid but I'm not the biggest fan of their waffles and french toast. The only major downside is the wait on the weekends. You could be in line for up to an hour or two trying to get a table. This place gets my vote for best late night food in Charlotte (Sadly Charlotte does not have a ton of late night food offerings outside of fast food. My family & I were in town visiting from Florida. Some people from our hotel recommended this diner as an after hours spot because it's 24-hours. We visited on a Saturday night around 12:00 am. There was a line outside for entry, but we only waited about 10 minutes. The server was friendly and accurate with our orders. Second time visiting here. Both times were good. At times they can be extremely busy. To accommodate for this they keep some foods pre prepared. On this visit I had the french toast, grits( omg, the best restaurant grits Ive ever had!), and bacon. French toast was hard around the edges, tell tell sign they arent fresh, the middle tasted great. Grits get a second mention because them things are the truth! They were creamy and delicious! I ordered my bacon limp, bacon comes out in less than 2 minutes not limp. No way was it cooked fresh. They kindly fixed me some fresh bacon. Waitress was great! Restuarant was clean. The menu is expansive, but I couldn't tell you what the other food tastes like. My usual is so delicious, I doubt I'll ever expand my palate here. The servers are always incredibly patient, especially considering the type of patrons they're serving (drunk, obnoxious, hungry people). Both were good. The chicken was Krispy, and the chicken was moist. The chicken had a milder season for people that don't like spicy, but the hot sauce on the table ramped up the heat for the spice lovers. Our server was Kaya (I hope I spelled her name right). I really liked the feel of the diner, very retro and the records on the walls were cool. But when it comes down to it, people go to restaurants to eat. And honestly, the food to me was mediocre. I got the uptown which included a waffle, 2 eggs poached and hashbrowns. My husband got a tall stack of chocolate chip pancakes and an egg and cheese on a biscuit and 2 scrambled eggs. I also ordered a coffee. The presentation of the food was really unappealing to me. It did was kind of just thrown on the plate. My waffle was good, I liked that the syrup was nice and hot and I asked for the honey butter as well. I really despised the taste of my hashbrowns. They were too hard and there was a weird aftertaste. Overall, you do get your money's worth. The price is actually pretty great for what you get and the service is good. Other food looked better.
