All of the staff were friendly and inviting. The food was AMAZING I had pecan Belgian waffles with fried chicken wings with honey butter and syrup. So good. One of my coworkers had the shrimp and grits. She let me taste it and oh my goodness so good. A few of our other coworkers joined us and they enjoyed their food just as much as we did. Finally made it to midnight diner! There was no line when we arrived around 9:15pm on a Saturday but when the hornets game ended the line grew to about 50 people. It's pretty lively inside and the food comes out pretty quickly. The wait staff was extremely pleasant and efficient. The food was great! Tasted just like a good home cooked meal. I ordered an American cheese Omelette and they used some kind of cheese blend that is nowhere close to American cheese. Also, who packs up an order of French fries without giving you any ketchup? Stopped by the Midnight Diner for lunch with our kids on a whim. Pros: didn't wait long for a table and staff was helpful and quick. We received the wrong bill, but the staff quickly fixed it with no issue. Food was decent - typical diner food which was exactly what we were looking for with a quick lunch. We ordered two of the buffalo chicken sandwiches, the kids hotdog and kids chicken tenders. Kids were happy as were we with the portions and taste. Cons: Cleanliness of the place really hurt it for me, particularly the bathrooms. I get with high traffic they won't be pristine, but this was particularly dirty. Soaps and paper towels all over the bathrooms were wet and were being man handled by customers. The toilets were dirty enough to not even use them. The booths needed an additional wipe down as well which also made me wary, especially in flu/cold season. Not sure the food outweighed cleanliness factor here, so likely would not return in the future which is a bummer. read more

Very friendly waitress. We were not rushed, the food was just quick. I had that veggie burger and it wasn't the typical diner veggie burger soft and falling apart. I had court today and decided to go for so breakfast. I saw that the Midnight Diner was open and saw that there was not a wait. Upon entering I noticed that it was very clean. I'm got prompt service and ordered the bubba with hash browns all the way and a chicken wing. As a picture show they are extremely delicious. The hot sauce came in handy for the gravy as it was a little thicker than normally used to. Service was excellent as they kept coming by to refill my coffee. A few pieces of the chicken did not taste fresh, but like it was sitting under a warmer for a while. Flavor was pretty bland. Fried fish and shrimp were nicely fried. I've patronized several times over the years but have never left a review. Unfortunately, the last couple of visits have been hit or miss. Usually any wait is due to being short staffed. The better looking picture is from dining in and sitting at the bar. The cheese could've been a little more melted but I didn't care. I was hungry. The picture of grits was from a take out order. I don't know what the problem was but I regretted not checking the order before I left. Parking was better at the former location. Sometimes the take out line is longer than the dine in line because of them being short staffed; you can't just go to the counter to place an order. Midnight Diner is one of my favorite places to go to while in Charlotte! Their shrimp and grits do not miss! Their onion rings are really good too. And their waffles are bomb! Unfortunately their bang bang chicken sandwich wasn't worth getting and it made my boyfriend sick so I don't recommend that. But of the many times that we have been here we haven't had any issues with anything else on the menu. The ambiance is very typical of a diner friendly but classic. There is booth seating as well as bar seating. Service is consistently nice and quick! Our server, Kayla, was an absolute delight--warm, attentive, and consistently cheerful throughout our meal. Her thoughtful service added to the overall charm of the experience. We decided to order a variety of dishes to get a true sense of what the diner had to offer: a classic breakfast plate, a slider appetizer, and a quarter fried chicken plate with sides. Overall, the food was satisfying, though not without its highs and lows. It's located downtown so there were some sketchy people outside no fault of the restaurant. Free 2 hour parking available for customers. Large food portions! My eating companion and I ate at the bar and I am telling you this was the most authentic and down to earth experience of my visit to North Carolina. I've been here before but it has been a couple of years. My husband and I were stopping to Charlotte and decided to have a quick breakfast on the way home. There was a short 15 minute was at around 9:30 but it went by quickly and the hostess was very friendly and managed the people well. Once inside I ordered the chicken and the waffles and my husband ordered the bubba which is a biscuit dish with eggs and gravy on the biscuit. My husband liked the biscuit and gravy dish overall and had no complaints although he stated he had had better. The hash browns were top tier, fresh and a great sized portion. The chicken and waffles is where it went downhill for me. The chicken tasted exactly like Smithfield's fast food chicken. Although it is supposed to be a home made marinaded chicken and freshly fried, it was dull and lackluster. It wasn't very hot and it didn't have that fresh chicken shine. I was disappointed. The waffle was okay, it had a nice sweet flavor to it, but again I've had better. Maybe I'm a little spoiled by the offerings in my city that I live in but it was just an okay meal for me. The waitress at the table was nice and fast although it did take me asking three times to get lemon with my tea. The restaurant is loud but cute. It had a few rough patches, I'm not sure how old it is but overall it was nice. We split the scrumptious fried chicken, green beans, Mac and cheese as well as the spaghetti. They were both delicious!
