Oktoberfest is in the air, and so we stopped in to have our share of Jager schnitzel. They have a fun vibe as everything is outdoors (it IS a biergarten) with gravel floor, and old wood siding. High tables, low picnic style tables, lots of places to sit and chat. There is cornhole and ping pong too. You order at the front station, get your number for the table, grab your table, and they will bring everything to you. We sat out by the front where we could see everyone passing by... Food was just ok in my opinion. Not bad in any way. Just kinda HMMM ok. We had the Jager schnitzel which comes with some kraut and either fries or red potato salad. Come back? Sure.... The service was fine. Really quick turn around from order to food delivery. I was mostly disappointed in how little toppings were actually on the food we ordered. We ordered the Derfinator dog that promises a ton of flavors, but there was barely a slather of any of the 4 sauces it comes with and like 4 pieces of onion on it. It was sad looking. Same thing for the fries. Sad bit of onions topping them and I'm pretty sure it was supposed to have andouille sausage on it and it didn't. Also, it wasn't crowded and it was really nice outside, except for the person in the back belting out their renditions of the songs playing on the radio. It was kind of annoying and ruined the overall ambience. The pretzel was good, but I wasn't a fan of the beer cheese. Definitely wouldn't pay an extra dollar for that again. read more

Sadly, I didn't eat any meat, however, the sauerkraut is unlike any other I've had before (and I'm German!). So tasty and not bitter or too crunchy. The potatoes were soft and flavorful. What a fun stop! My cousins and aunt took us here for food, drinks, and ping pong! We had a blast. It was definitely packed, so the food took a bit but it was worth the wait. Note: the potato salad is not traditional American style. My cousins had NEVER played ping pong so we loved that they had a table in the back and they enjoyed it. They do only have tables and benches so be aware it's not the most comfy/easier to get into for some. We recommend stopping in! read more

Midtown BierGarten is a fun place to take friends when the weather is just right. This is the time! If it's too hot, the sail shades don't provide enough coverage - if it's too cold, there isn't enough structure to shelter you from the elements. Service is quick and friendly. You order at the window, receive a number, and your food/drink is delivered table-side. They have a nice variety of German, Belgian, craft beers and cocktails on tap. I opted for the Lila Geist cocktail, their take on the White Linen - similar to cucumber lemonade, it was delicious. Food wise, we had the following: -Pretzel - served with German sweet and spicy mustard. The pretzel came out hot, mustard was delish. -Currywurst - Knackwurst sliced and topped with German curry sauce, served with French fries. The curry wurst was good but the fries stole the show. -Derfinator Dog - Cheese filled bacon wrapped frankfurter, cream cheese, secret garlic sauce, hot sauce, mayo, lettuce, onions, topped with bbq sauce. This had a lot going on, but it was really good. Definitely not winning a healthy meal award with this order. -Kasespatzle - German mac and cheese, egg noodles three cheese blend, beir cheese, topped with crispy onions and green onions. This place was super yummy and the staff were very helpful with their recommendations! I ordered the Belgie Bird Sandwhich, which to my surprise had waffles as the buns. The waffle was something different but it paired well with all the ingredients and didn't get soggy which is a plus! I was definitely stuffed after eating it. The Sandwhich also comes with fries which were some of the best I've had in a while, crunchy and paired well with ranch. I wanted a wheaty beer and the Paulaner hefe-weizen hot the spot. Great place to grab a beer or happy hour w/ friends. Good selection, knowledgeable and friendly staff that are great at offering suggestions. Beer garden style picnic tables with very little frills but all of the important elements in place - good, cold beer, space to sit, and good casual ambiance. Parking is somewhat hit or miss and all street based. Some spots are free and others are hourly. Snacks are decent - we had the pretzels that were tasty and paired well w/ our beers. Now that the weather is getting nice, the BeirGarten is always a favorite to visit for a refreshing beer and a pretzel. I'm a huge fan of the starburst. It looks so pretty and tastes equally as good. They offer a few corn hole spots and some Jenga games, which should probably be replaced as people have carved into the blocks making most pieces not stack properly. Seating is pretty much picnic bench style and can get pretty full on a hoppin' weekend so be prepared to really get to know your table mates. They are dog friendly and last I knew, they do allow kids until 7pm as long as they are accompanied by an adult 21+ but that could have changed so as always, double check. Overall, the beers are good, it's a nice outdoor area to enjoy with games and friends and we will continue to frequent. read more

Great place if it's open. And it's not easy to know if it's open. They have winter hours and summer hours. Never mind that it's spring, their website says they're on summer hours. Specifically, it says "If it's Cold, we are on winter hours. But it's HOT so we are on Summer Hours!" I've gone here on my own and had a good time, and wanted to bring the rest of the family to experience it. Loaded everyone up yesterday and arrived by 1, thinking it would be open as their website says they open at 11. We pull up and it's closed up. I see a guy on the other side of the guy and I ask him if they're open, despite seeing that it's obviously closed. He says they're closed and the sign shows they open at 3, which are winter hours. I tell him the website says they're on summer hours, and read him verbatim what the website says. He responds that it's still not hot enough so they're on summer hours...oblivious to the 80+ degree heat he was standing in and that the website said it was open. Fix your website to accurately reflect your hours. Or get rid of it and just use google. Because having a website where your most basic details are wrong is doing you any favors. And I can only assume you've been pointing people to your restaurant with incorrect summer hours since summer 2022. read more

Today, was finally the day I tried the Starburst at the BierGarten for the first time and let me tell you, I'm not the biggest fan of too much sugar. Leaving this place, I mostly enjoyed my experience and would definitely try it again on a nice day. First thing, the drink selection is great and the beers I had (hefe's and hazy ipa) were phenomenal. The food was actually pretty good, I had the pretzel and the schnitzel, but the serving sizes were very small. The pretzel is a decent size for a single person as an appetizer (I wouldn't recommend sharing, you need to order 1 per person), and the schnitzel tasted great but needed to be double the size - the single piece they served was the size of my palm and it came with a pinch of kraut and maybe a dozen fries. I'd have gladly paid a bit more for a larger serving size, but thinking about ordering two servings wouldn't have been worth double the price. The seating area isn't anything special, but it's enjoyable on a temperate day/evening given it's 100% outdoors. My biggest complaint is that when I was there someone had a dog who was constantly barking at a black patron - the dogs owner didn't do anything about it, and it clearly made many folks (including myself) feel very uncomfortable; later on the dog also took a big dump and it was super stinky, the owners didn't even bother to pick it up - I was sitting on the opposite side of the establishment and it was noticeable (the smell). The service staff seemed super chill and cool when I interacted with them, so I was extremely puzzled why they didn't ask the party with the racist dog to leave. If I consider the dog owner situation an outlier and don't consider it; other than the small serving sizes this place is fantastic and I'd recommend giving it a shot. read more

While in town and closeby the Midtown Biergarten my colleague and I decided to give them a try and I'm glad we did! Located in beautiful Downtown Sacramento and only minutes from our hotel we went to visit in the early afternoon. While the Biergarten is not 100% authentic, it is probably the closest I have come across since living in the USA. Midtown Biergarten has a ton of imported draft German Beers, not just from Munich but other big cities and small towns as well. Unfortunately, they have only a very limited variety of food, but the few items we ordered were without a doubt 100% authentic German. The Pretzel with the Sweet and Spicy mustard which come straight from Germany and that says a lot about this place! Most German restaurants serve cheap local mustard but not here! The Cheese dip was also spot on and a big shout out to the owner for doing it right! I get upset quite easily by restaurants claiming to be German and it was so refreshing that they held up to my high expectations. I've been here plenty of times before, but coming here after a visit to Munich Oktoberfest has made me really appreciate Midtown BierGarten. I am so glad to have a slice of Barvaria close to home. Long communal tables and benches, beer server in liter glasses, and sausages. What more can you ask for? Well, I daresay I'd love to see roasted chicken and pork knuckles on the menu to really drive home the German theme but c'est la vie. Our last visit we came in our tracht cause it was the final day of Oktoberfest and I was heavily missing Germany. The staff seemed to appreciate it so it might become a regular garment when I come too lol. Make sure you check their page for opening/closing.
