It's probably the German in me coming out but I loved this place. I came here on the last stop of my Sac Brew Bike tour and loved the outside open table seating as well as the great selection of authentic German biers on tap. They also have a variety of local beers and the bartenders are super helpful in giving samples of different beers until you find the perfect one to enjoy. They also offer many different types of German food and snacks to pair with your German Beer! The atmosphere is great- There's a laid back vibe that makes it perfect or hanging with friends and there's even games to play like Jenga and corn hole. Everything is outdoors with family style seating on picnic benches. One of the unique drinks this BierGarten offers is a drink called the Starburst which is sooooo delicious! We had the sausage plate with fries. The sausages were savory and choosing all three was a good choice. Each had its own flavor. The sauerkraut was bland and not heated. The fries were not very pleasing. Any time I get coated fries I'm unhappy. Not only is the potato flavor less, but the fries taste terrible if they aren't piping hot. The menu has a lot of German favorites including Schnitzel! The service quick and friendly. This is an outdoor Biergarten with picnic tables on dirt. As such, flies, dust and noise are quite noticeable. The beer choices were all German style, so no ales were available. I'll tell you what could improve about this place! First I would get rid of the NASTY bartender or whoever answered the phone on 9/28/24! The first time I called, before I could get a word out, the person that answered the phone proceeded to rattle off that they were all sold out on tickets to the Oktoberfest event that was being held there and hung up on me! So I called back and was able to explain that my ticket was not showing up on Eventbrite where I purchased the ticket. He told me that if I could not produce a ticket they wouldn't let me in. My bank account and the fact that I received an email stating I purchased a ticket still wasn't good enough. I don't know who dropped the ball but I ended up not being able to go. I've used Eventbrite in the past without any issues. I contacted my bank to file a claim to get my money back. Because this place was SO rude I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone! The person that answered the phone, I'm assuming it was a bartender, said they didn't have time to talk and had to go. The right thing to do would have been to put me on hold and have the manager on duty help me. I get it it was busy but no one should ever be spoken to like this guy did to me! read more

My German self loves exploring German spots in different cities. Someone recommended this spot and I'm so glad I went! It's very laid back and relaxed. You can order drinks and snacks at the entrance and hang out for as long as you'd like, no pressure. There's an expectation to share the long benches with others, so it's easy to chat with others if you are open to it. The ping pong table in the corner is fun if you struggle at sitting too long like I do! The pretzel was alright, but the obatzda dip is so good! Definitely pretty authentic. I'd say skip the beer cheese.. if it sits out for a bit it just becomes clumpy and not appetizing. The beer selection is good & the starburst slushy beers are perfect for a hot day in Sac! Found this place on Yelp and have it a try! Was going to get a pretzel to-go, but why not have a beer while I wait. I had a pint of Pilsner, because I like light ones, and it was ice cold and refreshing. The pretzel is served super warm with a little butter, sweet and spicy mustard, and I sprung for the beer cheese! It was delicious! Next time I am going to opt out of the sweet mustard, yuck! So happy to find a beer spot a couple weeks after moving here. Came here around 5-6 pm with my friends and I was glad they had a lot of open seatings. The dipping sauces that come with the pretzels are pretty good! Only one I didn't like was the mustard, but I don't like mustard to begin with haha. The bartender gave us a heads up that the garlic fries has a lot of real garlic and oh boy was it yuuummy. We also ordered a liter of the starburst drinks in the beginning. I had heard about this place for years and never tried it. Well just recently on a business trip I decided to stop in and immediately regretted the years of lost opportunity! Having actually lived in Germany for a few years I truly enjoyed the outdoor beer garden atmosphere that they did their best to recreate. Picnic tables and high stools, covered with shade screens, misters to keep the heat down, and a dog friendly environment all added up to some very fond memories being rekindled. The only thing missing were the buxom women in traditional German garb hand-carrying multiple liters of beer out to the tables as would have been the case in Germany. But I digress... On the menu were many authentic European beers I had come to know and love when I was over there. And served in the traditional liter tankards (Maß) that Europeans so love! A dark Munich lager (Münchner Dünkel) was just what the doctor ordered for me this time. And many iconic German foods were also on the menu. A variety plate of sausages with sauerkraut, and sweet and spicy and horseradish mustards...omg. They would have come with the very traditional German potato salad (Kartoffelsalat) but that was never one of my favorites so I substituted some exceptional garlic fries. I sat out front, enjoyed my beer and brats, and people-watched, which is always entertaining in Sacramento! Came here with a buddy of mine while meeting a coworker downtown. Decent street parking for a weeknight. I got their starburst drink which was a grapefruit wheat ale with some raspberry cider added to it. That drink was very refreshing. The ambiance is nice as it's completely outdoors which is perfect for sunny days but might not be as ideal during colder weather. The service was really good. I enjoyed my sausage platter and wished I ordered their potato salad after seeing my coworker order it because I assumed it would've been like what you see sold at grocery stores (white chunks mixed in mayo) but this potato salad here had no mayo at all and was filled with chunks of bacon. They have a variety of beers on tap, and they are so incredibly gracious that if you ask they will let you sample one or two to decide which one you would like to have. The hot guys behind the counter, are friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly patient when asked a ton of questions. The menu is filled with a variety of German sausages, and I can tell you now you can't go wrong with any of them. I ended up ordering something that probably sounds incredibly wrong, but let me tell you it's definitely a must try. It's a tasty sausage served on a hotdog bun with cream cheese and peanut butter. Before you start screaming gross, it was actually really good. I ordered it as a let's just see how this goes but the sausage that was wrapped with bacon and the combination of the peanut butter and the cream cheese just made it a taste sensation. Don't knock it until you try it. We also ordered the sausage platter which you can order with either two or three different types of sausages. We opted for two, and they were extremely tasty. I wish I had ordered the garlic fries as one of my friends did, because not only did they smell amazing, but yummmm! I can't wait to go back and hang out and try more of their food offerings. I love the fact that it's a great place to hang, and no one is pressuring anyone to get up and leave anytime soon. Leaving this place, I mostly enjoyed my experience and would definitely try it again on a nice day. First thing, the drink selection is great and the beers I had (hefe's and hazy ipa) were phenomenal. The food was actually pretty good, I had the pretzel and the schnitzel, but the serving sizes were very small. The pretzel is a decent size for a single person as an appetizer (I wouldn't recommend sharing, you need to order 1 per person), and the schnitzel tasted great but needed to be double the size - the single piece they served was the size of my palm and it came with a pinch of kraut and maybe a dozen fries. I'd have gladly paid a bit more for a larger serving size, but thinking about ordering two servings wouldn't have been worth double the price. The seating area isn't anything special, but it's enjoyable on a temperate day/evening given it's 100% outdoors. My biggest complaint is that when I was there someone had a dog who was constantly barking at a black patron - the dogs owner didn't do anything about it, and it clearly made many folks (including myself) feel very uncomfortable; later on the dog also took a big dump and it was super stinky, the owners didn't even bother to pick it up - I was sitting on the opposite side of the establishment and it was noticeable (the smell). The service staff seemed super chill and cool when I interacted with them, so I was extremely puzzled why they didn't ask the party with the racist dog to leave. If I consider the dog owner situation an outlier and don't consider it; other than the small serving sizes this place is fantastic and I'd recommend giving it a shot. read more

Came here on a Friday Night. I honestly thought it was going to busy because of COVID-19 restaurant seating capacity but surprisingly, we only waited about 15-20 minutes to get in. Since it was our first time here, we ordered their most popular drink, the Starburst. Should've asked what was in it lol but it was pretty damn good! It has a spicy kick at the end which was odd but overall, good. Highly recommend if you're not sure what to try cause they do have quite a selection of beer to choose from. However, I can't say the same about their food.. We ordered the garlic fries and it was garlicky and had wasabi in it (odd). When I got home, I could still taste the garlic wasabi in my mouth. Also, ordered the cucumber salad and it was tangy and small portioned but just okay..really no wow factor. I probably needed some meat to go with it. Lastly, tried the Shnitzel and Derfinator Dog and I'd give it a 3.75/5. In regards to service, you order when you walk in and sit yourself down. Overall, the beer was awesome but I will try other things on their menu. Looks like they are known for their Belgies which is featured in Sacramento Magazine so I will try that next time I am here. read more

I was there Saturday night, so should have known that it would be busy af. Regardless, the place has great beer and food. We waited in line for around 30 minutes to order food and get seated. We got their most famous drink which is the Starburst, ordered some pretzels and a sandwich. We grabbed our beer and headed to an empty table. The drink tasted really good and was very pleasing. The food was brought out within like 20 minutes. Pretzels tasted fresh and the cheese sauce hit the spot. After finishing the first round of drinks, I wanted to order more but was informed that I had to go wait in line again. At least this time I would be in front of the line. I don't see why the servers bringing the food were unable to just take the quick order of fries and a round of beers. Regardless, an excellent local spot with great beer. Worth it IMO read more

I lived in Germany for 6 years. I've had a number of Jager schnitzels (hunter schnitzel), curry wurst and pretzels all over Germany. The brown mushroom sauce of the Jager schnitzel was thin and didn't have any flavor. However, the fried pork part was crispy. The curry wurst reminded me of home. Germany is my home. If I could move back there with my family, I would. The potato salad was on point. It's not the American potato salad but the real German potato salad. It is served warm and has a red vinegar flavor. The pretzel was very good. I can tell that is was Americanized by the added whipped butter and sweet and spicy mustard that is given to dip the pretzel. Don't worry it's not pour over it but put in a cup on the side. In Germany you eat a pretzel with beer or by itself without any dipping sauces. Overall, I'd probably go again if I was in the area. The experience was fun. My kids wanted to watch the adults play corn hole and beer pong. The seating is outdoor with lots of shade. It does get crowded and has limited seating. read more

I don't know how I forgot to add this place to YELP. I go here everytime I am in the Sacramento area. Outdoor seating in the true German style. Everything on menu is a true reflection of an authentic German beer house. They focus on German beer and have over 12 different drafts available. I love their summer time choices. They usually have some kind of fruity beer in summer which I love. Eh. It's all right. The food is pretty good sometimes, if you're in the mood, but it's not something I would come for every day. I'm not the biggest fan of the beers, but that is probably just due to my personal preferences. I do like the atmosphere here though, and the set up, with the long bench, everyone-sits-together style. I just don't really feel like paying a lot of dollars for beers that I'm not even that into! My buddy likes to come here, so I usually just get dragged along, but I probably wouldn't be caught here on my own. You can also play some cornhole while you're here. Ya know, the one with the beanbags, that you try to throw into the other people's cornhole. The holes are pretty tight, so you'd better come prepared to have your hole reamed :D read more

The best German-inspired hangout in Sacramento, hands down. You can hear yourself think AND the beer selection is impressive! In addition to that, the food rocks and there are well-behaved furfaces with responsible parents everywhere! Not a handful of blocks from my apartment, this is one of my first choices if I want to grab a refreshing weisse or sturdy dunkel and relax with friends, or heck, by myself. It has a no-frills simplicity, and it IS outdoors, but those are two MORE things I love about it. I recommend adding them on the Bookface, as they post specials, discounts, events, tap rotations, AND COUPONS. Yes. You read that right. They'll even message them to you if you ask. I will choose this place over the place that might start with an L every time. I would also say this place is the one that reminds me of Germany the most, out of Sacramento's offerings.
