I'd visited this clinic previously, so I wasn't a new patient and scheduled a routine teeth cleaning online. Leading up to my appointment, I received multiple emails and texts confirming my appointment including a morning email 2 hours prior to the appointment as shown in photos. I arrived on time, was not greeted by anybody and sat in the waiting room for 45 min past my appointment before finally becoming impatient enough to ask when I would be called. At that point the person at the counter couldn't find my name on schedule. She then asked if I confirmed the appointment. I found it a confusing question as you can see the emails and texts never asked for me to respond and is clearly a reminder. She then communicated because I didn't respond to said messages, they removed me from the schedule, yet they didn't bother to text or email me that info. She then spent 5 min trying to gaslight me into believing the 2 hours of my day wasted between commute and wait time was my fault. This place is easily some of the worst service and communication I have experienced, even in a healthcare setting. I won't be returning and would recommend nobody else does either. read more

They told me my new insurance after insurance was $250, I thought that was more then they led me to believe, which I paid, then later said I was liable for another $100 which I paid. I sure do dislike writing this review but feel the absolute need! I was a patient of Dr Wootton's for over 20 plus years until he retired and his practice was sold to a new dentist. I decided to stay and give him a try but never felt 100% comfortable (for various reasons including telling me during a filling redo - that my essential tremor made his job really difficlt to do. Hello, zero compassion and it could not be helped). After a situation that occurred a few weeks ago, I knew I had to go. I was shockingly told that I needed a deep cleaning along with FIVE (yes 5!) crowns needing to be redone. At my visit a few months prior, there was zero mention of crown work being needed. I was also told that several of the crowns were poorly done. Also, that he wanted to do the deep cleaning (it's not a simple procedure) that day - until the hygienist told him there was not enough time. I was shocked. I then had a second opinion with a very reputable dentist in Austin. Was advised that I absolutely did not need a deep cleaning. That 3 of the 5 crowns were nowhere close to being at the stage for replacement. And, 2 of the crowns could be replaced but it was not urgent and could wait. And, there was compassion and caring! This was lost at Midtown after Dr. Wootton retired. I sure will miss Tina & Nelda who are absolute gems at this office! read more

I freaking LOVE this office!!!! I had an ongoing oral infection that we were trying to resolve. The office manager/coordinator actually called me to check on me to see how the antibiotic was working. How thoughtful was that??? Every single time I've had an appointment with this office, I've had nothing but great, personable, and friendly service. I would even *gasp* use them out of network with my insurance! I like them that much! Professionalism goes a long way these days. Highly recommend this office if you need a great dentist. Robert Wootton DDS. love him! I have only ever had ultra friendly exchanges with the office staff. They are always so nice when they greet you...by name...every time! Pat, my hygienist, is always friendly, professional, and calm. I always ask her each visit whether my teeth look awful and she very gently says no, and that I have the normal findings that she sees in almost all her clients. Dr. Wootton, wow, what a consummate professional. Has excellent, friendly, calm chair-side manners. I find him to be friendly, knowledgeable, GENTLE, and calm. Whenever he has had to numb my gums, he swabs the bejesus out of it. Some dentists will only give it a couple of perfunctory swabs, hardly wait any time before going to work in your mouth. Dr. Wootton swabs til he feels the numbing med has soaked in before working on you. I really appreciate that. His calm demeanor will keep me coming back...EVEN OUT OF NETWORK. read more

I used this dentist for about 18mo. I went in 2-3 times per year as they requested and each time was presented with a laundry list of procedures or upgrades that they suggested I get through them. I knew I had one tooth that had cracked and wanted to get dealt with, but when they looked at that tooth they suggested I get a crown for an additional tooth from a filling when I was a kid. I trusted them & went ahead with that crown at the same time as the original tooth I was having crowned. I was quoted a price and paid that price in full. 2mo later I receive an invoice for an additional 20%. After leaving multiple unreturned voicemails with Midtown, I called my insurance. Their explanation was that basically the second crown Midtown had suggested was unnecessary and that they wouldn't pay for it as elective. When I presented this back to Midtown, their response was that basically this is how those things go. I hardly ever leave negative reviews in any medium or format, but I feel like Midtown treated me basically as an ATM & couldn't have cared less when I explained that their process has left me feeling this way. I am beyond upset with this company. I had an appointment booked, sent them my forms via email and had been ready to see them. They had tried to reach me, they called at bad times and I couldnt answer. The forms I had submitted had all the information they needed. Today I answered, the receptionsist who took my call was incredibly rude. She told me that I could not have my appointment rescheduled and that Id need to find another dentist. It saddens me to write this review as I have gone to this dentist for years when Dr Wooten was there and I essentially spent out of pocket my 1400 FSA here every year and never had an instance where insurance didn't cover what they quoted me. When the new dentist came I was weary, but I stayed. I honestly felt like everytime I went it was like going to a car lot, very high pressure to get additional services almost condescending and not listening to what I could afford(this was the office manager or front desk person). The dentist told me I needed a bridge. I was VERY CLEAR that if it was not going to be covered and was considered elective I did not want to have it done, they assured me it would be covered. I paid out of pocket $1200. Not to long after, I get a bill for the remaining balance of $1700+, this never happened in my previous experiences. They have now turned me in to collections because I refuse to pay more for something they knew was elective and I am not one to not pay my debts. It seems they are more concerned with making money than gaining the trust and loyalty of their client base.I spent a lot of money here every year too. And I loved Tina and my hygienist too they were old school when I started going here. read more

Centrally located, friendly and very competent staff with an amazing hygienist. I have been getting my oracle care here the past 2 years and I have always had great experiences! I am like all others, terrified of dentists but Dr, Bailey and his staff has always put me at ease. They are hawks for preventive care and I always get great advices each time I visit. Never underestimate the value of flossing and brushing properly but with care. My steady gum line and overall oral health improvement tells me that I am doing all the right things because of their persistence. The hygienist is very gentle and she made sure that the patient is comfortable during the entire procedure. As always Dr.Bailey's attention to detail shows as his prognosis are always right to the point. Centrally located, easy parking and a great staff make this a must visit and they will be with you through the long run and making sure that your dental health is their highest priority. read more

Similar experience to many of the people below of finding this office very eager to fill cavities. It was my first time at this dentist and despite having a minimal history of cavities and having been to the dentist less than a year ago, I was told that I needed 7 fillings. A second opinion revealed that this was not the case-- simply some areas to keep an eye on that should definitely not be filled at this point. I also was recommended a number of procedures that would be out of pocket to prevent further cavities that when I ran by the dentist who provided my second opinion, were not appropriate for me. Overall would definitely not recommend. Very happy I found another dentist! read more

I really hesitated leaving this review, because I honestly thought everyone in the office was so lovely. HOWEVER, my first dental cleaning at this office has turned out to be two months and more than a thousand dollars of misery. A few months ago, I visited Dr Wootten for the first time for a routine cleaning. I saw Holly, who was wonderful, but never once saw Dr Wootten. On that visit, I was told I had TWELVE cavities. I've never even had one cavity or pain before. She showed me that they were surface cavities, and like a reviewer below, you never know how deep they could be, so I decided to have them all filled. I asked, however, to have the fillings spaced out so I did not have to pay for them all at once, which they obliged. (about $1,000) On my second of four scheduled visits, I left with terrible pain that kept me up at night. (Something that should not happen with fillings I'm told). I didn't eat or drink anything for a week! I finally went back to Dr Wootten's office, and he told me they missed a crack in my tooth due to my TMJ, so they would fill it in for free, but I needed to buy a night guard (another $75). So I did, but the excruciating pain continued. I then went back AGAIN, and begged that they do something, so they put me on antibiotics (another $30). I did so, but the pain went on for ANOTHER week. I am now a month into the pain, at my pleading, they finally referred me to an Endodontist for a root canal. (Another $300) I know this review is long, but IF YOU READ NOTHING ELSE READ THIS: When I went to the Endodontist, he took one look at my x-rays, and asked if he could explore my teeth. He then noted that Dr Wootten had told him to do the root canal on tooth 14, however, a quick look clearly showed him that the root canal should be on tooth 15!! Can you imagine if I had a root canal on the wrong tooth??? Dr Amin was wonderful, and after a month, the pain was finally gone. Also, during my visits with Dr Wootten, I complained of some gum pain. He referred me to an Oral Surgeon (another $60) because, "it was probably just a cyst, but I should have it looked at in case it was something more." Panicked, I went to the Oral Surgeon where the Dental Assistant quickly looked at my x-rays and told me Dr Wootten was wrong. I then saw the surgeon, and he told me in about two seconds that there was a piece of something wedged between my tooth and gum, and that I should just treat it with hydrogen peroxide. Imagine the fool I felt!! Especially when I paid $60 for someone to tell me I had food in my teeth. How could a dentist not know that?? I am now $1,500 and many hours poorer due to Dr Woottens continual poor diagnoses. The ladies in his office were all wonderful, and Dr Wootten himself is very nice, but I would never recommend someone to his office. read more

Jeff is a new dentist there and I'd recommend him ... he's personable and even made time to fill a small cavity I had the same day I had my regular cleaning done. This dental office was sush a positive experience from the moment I inquired about new patients. Not only is DDS Tijan amazing at what he does, he has a great staff behind him. Taking care of not only your needs but your wants. My two front teeth had been a little jagged/chipped at the base for years and NOT A SINGLE dentist offered to correct it, but DDS Tijan noticed and helped me and I couldn't be happier with my results. Even though I was getting something not-so-fun done (fillings and crown), Dr. Kim and Nelda made me feel extremely comfortable with their friendly and comforting demeanors. The office was well decorated, clean, and comfortable, and I had a much more relaxing dental experience than the ones I have had in the past! I would recommend Dr. Kim to anyone looking for a dentist here in Austin. He even called me later that day to check in and see how I was doing after the appointment. Dr. Wooten was the first dentist I ever went to as a kid, and my family has been using him for over 20 years now (and tens of thousands of dollars in dental work.) Obviously, we're pretty familiar with him and his office at this point, and that's why it's so disappointing to have to leave. But the service and staff have been slowly declining in quality for several years now and it's gotten to the point where I don't trust their recommendations, the care provided, or their prices. I am finishing up some orthodontic work with Dr. Wooten at the moment, and this experience has proven to be the last straw. The dental assistant had never banded brackets before, had to be shown how, and was still unable to so now Dr. Wooten does it for her at every visit. But of course Dr. Wooten is so busy that I am frequently left in the chair for 10-20 minutes at a time while he attends to other patients. In addition I have to remind him who I am and what I am doing in his chair at nearly every visit (I've been his patient for 20+ years, have monthly appointments while my braces are on, and presumably this information would be available to him on some kind of chart? It's kind of insulting and does not instill confidence.) A few other examples of bad experiences: a filling that was done on a front tooth several shades darker than my natural teeth--it looks like a stain, and his attempt at fixing it was not successful. I took off work for an appointment that had been incorrectly scheduled (I had the date printed on the receipt from a previous appointment, but they did not have me in the computer--so I had to reschedule and take of work a second time.) They incorrectly predicted my insurance coverage for my orthodontic work (they assured me I could pay upfront--I asked several times--turns out I can not, which was a huge deciding factor in whether or not to even get the work done.) And in general Dr. Wooten is not a "gentle" dentist, which has never really concerned me before because I'm not that sensitive, but recently I was sliced in the lip and gums while my teeth were being spaced, and neither injury was acknowledged by Dr. Wooten despite an alarming amount of pain and blood. The wounds have yet to heal completely and have caused more discomfort than any dental work I've had previously. So basically I'm done. I've been less and less satisfied with the quality of care, and my loyalty has reached it's limit. There are still quality people in the office: Tina at the front desk, and Holly the hygienist are both great. I believe Dr. Wooten is a talented dentist, he's just become stretched too thin or perhaps is nearing the end of his career and just doesn't care as much anymore. The new staff that have joined them in recent years have been overwhelmingly disappointing, and I don't trust them to even schedule an appointment correctly anymore. However the views from the office are some of the best in Austin. :) read more

My boyfriend, A.J. went to see Dr. Jeffrey Tjan at Midtown Dental Associates after almost a week of painful tooth aches and gum swelling. After getting a referral from a neighbor, we quickly made the appointment to see Dr. Tjan and are very thankful we did! Not only were we both greeting by a wonderful front desk staff in high spirits, but Dr. Tjan took excellent care of A.J. and successfully extracted 2 wisdom teeth that were definitely the root of the painful problem. We were both very satisfied with the office, it's staff, and the outcome of the procedure. It was quick, and despite the situation it was a pleasant experience overall. Dr. Tjan himself followed up a few days later to check in on the progress, which is what reminded me to write this review and make sure Dr. Tjan's thoughtfulness and professionalism doesn't go unnoticed! read more

I'v been going here for cleanings and general services for about 6 years, no complaints. Very nice/ clean office and I like the staff.

I was referred to this Dentistry by a friend, and had a terrible experience. My first visit was last September, and the first impression was the attitude I received over not consenting to provide my pictures for Marketing-related content. Huge turnoff, I can't believe I would be expected to consent to that. Secondly, I was told that they treat "conservatively" ...which was not the case. I have never had a cavity in the past, and they found 8 surface cavities that "needed to be filled because you never know how bad they could be underneath." They weren't that bad. I went ahead and just had them filled because I didn't have time/money to get a second opinion. When I went back for my cleaning in April, I was told (without x rays) that they had found another surface cavity. Really? I went and got a second opinion this week (including x rays) and they found NO cavities. In fact, two of the fillings that Dr Wooten did had to be fixed this week - one redone because it was cracked open and the second needed to be sanded and reshaped. I found this office's follow up to be overly aggressive and salesy. I was traveling extensively for work, and while my dental care is important, I did not appreciate the constant barrage of calls to reschedule my cleaning. Net net - I rarely do reviews, but I felt totally financially taken by this practice. I don't recommend them to anyone. read more
