Came here recently for brunch and was wowed. This little gem on North Ave in Tosa is serving up some supremely satisfying diner eats. When we arrived, the place was packed with quite a few people waiting to be seated. The host estimated a 20-25 minute wait, so we got our names on the list and waited. Their service is incredibly efficient and so the wait went even quicker than estimated. We got a nice seat by the window and immediately ordered a cup of coffee. They serve Valentine's coffee, which just happens to be my favorite local roaster (YES!). For my meal, I ordered what was described as breakfast sliders. They are way bigger than I was expecting (picture two full blown breakfast sandwiches). It's a full sized breakfast sausage patty, fried egg, and cheddar cheese served on a light, lovely, and buttery biscuit flanked by hash browned potatoes. The sliders were delicious (fork worthy). The hash browns were a-ok but a little less crispy than I normally enjoy. The service throughout our meal was wonderful. The portions are huge and their prices are incredibly reasonable. This cozy neighborhood diner is just what you need to get your Saturday morning going, the brunch here is phenomenal! I have had nearly every item on the menu and have enjoyed everything. In addition to the great food you will also find great, friendly, and prompt service and a great value proposition as the portions are healthy for what you pay. I'm going to start this review off by saying that if I had just ordered the deep fried bread pudding and nothing else, this would be a 5-star review. That stuff is phenomenal and the portion size for $6 is unbelievably generous. Literally there's enough where it could be a meal by itself. In addition to the deep fried bread pudding, I ordered the Pasadena sliders, getting one with bacon and one with sausage. On both I asked for scrambled eggs instead of over easy eggs. The biscuits were a little too crumbly and didn't seem as toasted as others have gotten based on their pictures. The bacon was overpowered by the flavor of the biscuit, but the sausage stood out enough to be noticed. The eggs were cooked well and not runny at all. The hash browns that came with the meal are why I can't give this review the five stars that the deep fried bread pudding deserved. They weren't undercooked, but they certainly weren't crispy and unfortunately there wasn't much flavor to them besides potato. In retrospect, I probably would have preferred the side of fruit rather than the hash browns. In all honesty, I foresee myself returning just for the deep fried bread pudding. I might be inclined try something else, but I don't necessarily need to to be satisfied. read more

LOVE this place! The Pasadena sliders are perfection. They are way big for sliders but so delicious. The creamy egg yolk with the fluffy biscuit, yum! And how can you go wrong with hash browns? Everything is very reasonably priced. While it is a small place they have quick service. Both times we have been there the front of the house guy is fantastic! So friendly and helpful! North Avenue Grill (NAG) owner and operator (or chef extraordinaire) Mike Topolovich has finally opened his second restaurant in Tosa, The Mid Town Grill, and boy-oh-boy, he has hit a home run. The location was a previous restaurant space, "John's Sandwich Shop." Mike spent a lot of time (and I'm sure money) on making this a comfy, new and welcoming spot to eat. My first and only complaint: It took me three trips here to get a seat and eat a meal. To be clear, the reason I didn't eat the first two times is because I am kinda' an impatient sort and the place was so crowded, I didn't want to wait. Yes, this place is so popular, you must be prepared to wait to be seated, especially during rush hour lunch time, but it is definitely worth it. The menu here is smaller than NAG and serves unique takes on what some would call comfort food. For my first meal here this morning, I had "The Jackson Park" omelet: Chicken sausage, spinach, artichokes, shaved Parmesan cheese and roasted tomato ($11.00). It was so very good, I'm going to want to get it again instead of trying something else on my next visit. I was curious about the French Fries here, because I really love the fries at NAG, so, instead of the "ribbon fries" that are normally served with omelets, I asked for the French Fries, and OMG, they were SO dang good; a mixture of curly cut, waffle, chips and regular fries, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Really, you MUST try those fries! (See my pic). And, BTW, if you don't want toast, you can get a side of fresh seasonal fresh fruit, which I usually do. Today, it was cut up cantaloupe, water melon, pineapple and both red and green grapes. Like NAG, Mid Town Grill has an excellent staff of friendly, efficient folks that really like working there and really appreciate their customers. Kudos to Mike for doing an excellent job when hiring staff. Parking at Mid Town Grill is a snap. The location has its own off-street parking lot and, if you need it, there is un-metered street parking also available. read more

I have to give credit to Joanna T. for making me aware of this new spot with her pictures. The spot is the same layout as the last place with old school lunch counter on one side and large booths on the other that can fit 6 people easily. The menu is small but it's well thought out with great dishes. I am a breakfast hound so I wanted my first visit to be a breakfast plate but with so many great items it was hard to decide but the breakfast sliders won. The staff was super friendly and at 7am, first open I got a booth. The breakfast sliders were very misleading because when the plate hit the table it was two full size breakfast sandwiches with a mound of hash browns, see my pictures. The hash browns were golden and crispy good. I chose sausage for the meat on my sliders from the ham, bacon or sausage choices. The breakfast sliders are everything fast food is not and what they wish they served. The butter milk biscuit was commercial but tasty and cooked perfect with fresh scrambled eggs, sausage and melted dripping cheese that was one of the top breakfast sandwiches I have had. The whole plate was very generous and could feed two of me so I had another breakfast to take home with me. Overall I had a great breakfast in a nice place with friendly people to start my day. Midtown Grill is now open in the old John's Sandwich Shop on North space, and owner by the fine people that own North Avenue Grill. Don't mistake Midtown for NAG II though - the menu is different. The interior is small with space for maybe 35-40 diners. Booths line one wall, there's a classic diner counter and a few tables outside so plan to arrive early or wait for a bit. Food wise you can expect diner classics (burgers, hash, breakfast anytime) along with some fresh things like power bowls, a brat patty breakfast sandwich (on a proper hard roll, thank you very much) and a pancake flight. I really had a HARD time picking a thing because it all sounded so good! My friend had the Turkey prosciutto club ($12) which was a giant sandwich layered high with turkey, smoked Gouda and prosciutto and served with fries. Not just any fries though - it's a mix of waffle fries, steak fries and curly fries - something for everyone. I picked breakfast "sliders" which in fact are 2 rather substantial biscuit sandwiches with perfectly cooked eggs. Delicious! Expect fast, friendly service and a neighborhood feel. In fact, I saw my neighbors there! The Mister and I have many weekends of hard decisions ahead - breakfast at NAG or Midtown? No matter where we end up, my stomach will be the winner! read more

Out of town reviewer, came based on 4.5 Yelp review and proximity to the house. Great neighborhood location, plenty of parking and easy access though not a ton of seating. We came for the Friday fish fry which did not disappoint. A few Spotted Cows started us off and then an appetizer of fried cheese curds, honestly the best I've had, very light breading served with ranch dressing, not greasy and very flavorful, perfect start to our meal. Two three peice cod fish fries, two fish tacos and one clam chowder. Food came out spaced just right, delicious and flaky fish with great sides. My 95 year old Mom felt the chowder was a bit low on flavor but she did love my Sisters French fries otherwise no complaints. Another round of beers, we passed on desert and finished up with small talk. Truly enjoyed the service, vibe, facility and food, will certainly repeat. read more

I'm not sure why it took me so long to come here but after finding out MidTown was a sister restaurant to North Ave Grill I knew I had to come! I came on a Wednesday morning with my cousin and we split the Pasadena sliders with hashbrowns, the Pasadena sliders come with two and they're huge! It was plenty to split with someone else. The hashbrowns were perfectly crunchy, sliders were great, as were the pancakes. Service was also good, masks were worn and it was a great experience. Highly recommend. read more

I meet a good friend here every so often for brunch. Everything we've tried has been delicious, but I can't tear myself away from the Irishman, partly because of the incredible corned beef hash, but the hash browns and the very rich sauce are great, too. Fortunately for cardiac reasons, there's a nice fruit option so you won't be tempted by the buttery cinnamon toast. Just be sure to check out when they're open and when they're not crazy busy. read more

Went there a week ago, and had the Jefe omelette with hash browns. The omelette was great, and the hash browns contain some sort of crack type ingredient. They're so good..I think it's just salted butter or something, but I've never had such salty-good hash browns. The only downside of this place is they don't have a lot of seating for two outside. We had a seat for two that was butted against the front window, and as I was pushing my seat in, jammed my finger between my chair and the concrete ledge. Ouch. Very minor gripe though, as service and food were great. read more

We love North Ave Grill, so we decided to try out Midtown Grill since they have the same owner! We sat outside to enjoy the weather but the inside looks very cute too. Even though it's right on the street, it was eerily quiet for a Sunday afternoon. The whole menu looked amazing, but I went with the ahi tuna salad since I'm currently doing the Whole30. The waitress was very patient with me asking about which oils it was cooked in and ensuring there was no dressing. It was phenomenal and my parents and boyfriend were also very happy with their selections including the Irishman skillet with corned beef and the "better dig the pig" brat patty with pork belly sandwich with smoked Gouda and bacon onion jam on a pretzel bun. I love that they have a pancake flight and some interesting dishes - I definitely want to come back to try more things on the menu! read more

I've past this place so many times I thought it was time to try it. I'm glad I did. It is a small diner with stools by the counter and a few other tables so not alot of seating inside but some tables outside as well for warmer days. For my meal I had the pancake flight 1 cinnamon swirl and the flavor really shined through with cinnamon and the glaze topping the 2nd was pecan and bacon im mean seriously candied pecans and bacon sweet and savory in a soft pancake deliciously salty and sweet unfortunately the 3rd was suppose to be a multi grain but they discontinued that batter so it was the same regular type of pancake batter as the rest but it had a few pieces of plantains and all were huge and all good. There was only one cook and one Waitress and I was impressed by both taking care of everyone and everything so well . I sure will go back read more

Haven't checked out the Tosa food scene in my 3 years in MKE until this past winter break. Had the pleasure of stopping into this gem of a diner. The host obviously loves his job and is the ideal greeter to set the tone (I wish I had gotten his name). They serve Valentine coffee, which is a local favorite for me and had a menu that said "we know what we do well" without overwhelming me. The omlette I ordered was amazing. Artichoke, tomato, cheese - and so accomodating when I asked for a side of hollandaise, which was one of my favorite I've had before. Will go back and plan to get a milkshake. I was a bit nervous about straying from North Avenue Grill for it's newer sister restaurant located right down the road. However, with MidTown Grill be slightly closer to my home, I figured, why not adventure over. We stopped in on a Sunday morning around 10am. First thing I noticed about this place vs. North Ave Grill is that there was virtually no wait. Despite being a much smaller layout, we were able to sit down right at the breakfast bar. Now, this may have been a fluke as a small wait started as we sat, there are only 5-7 tables with maybe 10 bar spots, so I can imagine this place can get quite full. There is, in the warmer months, outdoor tables as an option. The food was wonderful. The menu is smaller than N.A.G., but I didn't mind, the selection was unique and the portions were MASSIVE! They offer a breakfast and lunch side to the menu - I really had a difficult time deciding. I love that they carry really different items than other local breakfast places - flavor, style etc. The service was great - these people know how to do friendly and attentive. 5 stars for this! Recently while in the area, I wanted to stop and grab a bite to eat since i had some business to take care of in the area. This place came up on my Yelp app and when I saw they had a brunch menu I was definitely game. Finding the place and walking in, I noticed it wasn't a really big restaurant. It was nice and cozy. There were some TVs on and it had a nice vibe to it. I ended up ordering a skillet with ribbon potatoes....wow was it tasty. I also got English Muffins with the dish along with coffee. I'll gladly stop here again if ever in the area. Great food and good prices! read more

Thanks fellow Yelpers for this great recommendation! I loved John's Sandwich shop but didn't frequent often. When I saw a new restaurant opened in the space and all the rave reviews on Yelp, I needed to check it out. All of the delicious looking photos of breakfast lured me in. How could they not?! The space is small with booth seating and an the old school diner counter. Due do the size you can expect a wait on the weekend for breakfast. Luckily there weren't many diners and our wait was only about 10 minutes. Since it's diner style it does move relatively quick. Our server was pretty good. She was quick and friendly, everything arrived without delay. She was also able to answer questions regarding the menu. Now most importantly, the food! The food was soooooooo good! Based on other Yelpers review I decided to give the Pasadena Breakfast Sliders a shot. They did not disappoint! And they are definitely not sliders, it is basically two breakfast sandwiches with your choice of hashbrowns or fruit. You can choose ham, bacon or sasauge and your style eggs. I tried the ham with scrambled eggs. The ham was juicy, the biscuits fluffy, and the eggs are smothered in cheese. Yum! My dining companion ordered the Creme Brulee french toast and a side of eggs. I did not sample but the french toasted looked amazing. It must have tasted amazing because it was all gone. Overall we had a great experience. The food is delicious and a good value. Great food! As soon as I saw their logo, I immediately thought of North Ave Grill on North Ave east of this restaurant and found out it has the same owner! Great food, did not disappoint! I got the Sweet potato hash veggie and requested to remove the meat for more veggies. The ambience is similar to North Ave grill with booth , bar, and weather -permitting outside seating. Ate here with a group of friends and tried theirs too! Service was great and did not have to wait to long for a group of 8! You can get coffee while waiting to get a seat too :) looking forward to trying out the other items on the menu ! read more

This is my favorite breakfast place. Haven't tried anything I didn't enjoy. I enjoy flavor and a little spicy kick in almost every dish and they have just that in "Marco's Revenge." The breakfast tacos are also a good choice, coming from a picky taco eater, I enjoy them. Service has always been great, for the seemingly small place, the wait time is never excessive. read more
