I had a new Mercury Pro xs outboard motor and was performing the 2 hour new motor break-in and the…read moremotor started to make and knocking noise, so I made a short video of the motor and sent it to Smithville Marine and within an hour I got a phone call from them and they said if I would bring it down to them they may even be able to check it out later that same and the next day they sent me a text with a picture of a bad rod bearing they found plus they already contacted for me with the option to replace the power head or replace the complete outboard motor assembly so I wanted a complete new motor and within two weeks they messaged me the boat was ready to be picked up. I was a very happy camper and picked the boat up the next day was able to go on my planned fishing trip that next week thanks to them at Smithville marine.

Wasn't special by any means but it was clean, well taken care of, and had a friendly staff. It was exactly what you'd want out of a lake marina. The ship store had what you needed and made some pretty good pizzas. However, the couple that took over ownership have decided to turn it into a destination and boy howdy have they done a great job. The whole atmosphere has become electric. Yes, it still is VERY well maintained but the changes they've made have been fantastic. The expansion on the back side, is amazing. First Fridays are killer, the ship store is awesome and the pizzas are still off the hook delicious. I hope, as do the new owners, this place turns into the epic getaway that it can be. They're making all the right moves to turn Clinton Marina into a little paradise just outside Lawrence. My only concern is parking. On busy holidays, beware, parking can get a little tough and require a bit of a walk. Outside of the parking lot issue, Clinton Marina is a great little Oasis smack dab in the middle of the prairie.

The lower unit on my Mercury Optimax 150 froze. When I checked the oil, only a few ounces came out…read more Sportsman's was the last to service it in December 2022 when they changed the oil and replaced the impeller. It appears they did not refill the lower unit with oil (see photo). There is no sign of an oil leak after running the boat many times since I refilled it. They have no explanation of where the oil went but claim they are not responsible. I even asked if a pressure test concluded there was no leak would that be an indication that they didn't fill it with oil, but they said it couldn't possibly be their fault. I have been a loyal annual customer since 2012, but they have now told me to take my business elsewhere. I recommend not doing business with their service department. If I find a leak, I will gladly update this review.

Now, the customer service part: we did have to contact them several days after placing our order, as our order wasn't marked as shipped. Very quick, pleasant reply stating that 1 item was out of stock and order would ship when it was available. We asked that they ship the rest of order, which they obliged. Order was received 2 days later...In full! One item was black bottom paint and, unfortunately, the can lid had opened in the box, so we were greeted with a box full of paint, which, of course, ended up on our counters, floors, cabinets, hands, clothes, the cat and dog, etc... when we opened the box. Sigh. Emailed company to let them know and again, very prompt and pleasant reply, stating they would let us know when they could get a replacement out. Next day, they called (a nice touch over an email) to let us know a replacement would be sent out, with apologies and promises of better packing. So... Minus 1 star for forcing the customer to track down their order, rather than updating customer about shipping delay. No loss of stars for the spilled paint...crap happens and the flung black paint made our orange cat look like a tiger, which was cool for a second. But, full 4 stars for prices and superior customer service. If we hadn't received this level of service from Dan, this review would have gone in a different direction! Then they told me they will charge me a service charge for my order when I canceled before it was even filled or shipped. I would highly recommend finding anybody in the world to buy from before these clowns. Customer service is not their priority.
