When I first walked in here, the first thing I noticed was the ambiance. So cute, but I didn't take pictures. The next thing I noticed was the smell coming from the kitchen, the food smelled so good! The lady behind the counter greeted us immediately with a smile, and offered us aguas Fresca samples. They were delicious btw. Now, to the food. We got the lamb carnitas plate, the chicken carnita tacos & spicy beef empanadas, fried chicken torta, hot donuts and the brownie cookie. That cookie was so damn good, I don't know how they got it to actually taste like a brownie but I love brownies, so A+ for that and the hot donuts! The tacos were my least favorite, because they were too sweet for my liking. & the fried chicken torta unfortunately didn't travel well. But it was still tasty. The lamb carnitas plate was soooooo good and I don't know what they did to those beans but they were soooooo goooood. They had turkey in them too which was a really nice touch! I've known about this place and have wanted to try but just haven't until I happen to be next to waiting in line for the breakfast at portage park breakfast place with family this past Sunday for brunch. Of course I wasn't gonna stand there and wait, opportunity was knocking so I went in and ordered 2 hibiscus lemonades, chicken pastor tacos and beef barbocoa tacos. There wasn't anyone in here when I came in around 10:00 - 10:30 but man, I'm glad I did and I'm coming back to try other things (the lamb burger caught my eye too but next time I'll try). I've been wanting to try this place out ever since they opened. Their menu is small and unique, and I really wanted to try their Fried Chicken Torta. I called the order in and they said it would be done in 15 minutes. They must of have been slow that day because of the quick turnaround and an empty restaurant when I picked up my torta. I was hesitant in ordering this at first because of the price. The $16 for a torta was just too much. I ordered it anyway. It came with a fried crispy chicken thigh, chihuahua cheese, migos sweet heat sauce, beans, avocado, lettuce and tomato all in between a toasted telera bread. What you get for sixteen dollars is a huge ass sandwich and definitely worth every penny. Everything tasted fresh and the their sweet heat sauce really made dish sandwich come to life. Dropped in tonight with my "cheap eats" group to do tacos, and came away with some of the best reviews we have had at any restaurant this year. I've been to the other restaurants run by "Chef Jup", including Frontier and Ina Mae, a number of times...I used to live around the corner from Frontier and put on a LOT of weight eating at that place in the past. (In a good way.) So, I can't say that I'm surprised by the quality of the food at Migos; now, I'm wondering why more people are not talking about it. We tried the lamb barbacoa tacos, the spicy beef empanadas, an order of fries, a round of biscuits, the pound cake, and the "doughnuts" (actually oversized beignets). All of it was fantastic...it may sound strange, but the biscuits might be the best bread products I have tried in some time. The food came out in about 20 minutes and our party of six took over the place, since there is only one large table and a handful of window seats inside. (As far as I could tell, there's no restroom at Migos, so plan accordingly...a couple of us did not!) Prices were a wide range; a pair of tacos will run you $10, desserts were mostly on point, but the daily special was $20. This strikes me as elevated takeout food--despite the fact that we dined in for this meal--so your mileage may vary on whether the prices work for you or not. But the quality is why I will come back. I wish this place was a little closer to my house, but that's not a knock; now I just need to find a way to make repeat visits. Check this one out people! read more

Had a chance to try out Migos finally after having them at many pop ups. The hype is REAL! Some of the freshest, most flavorful food I have ever had. I wanted to try a bit of everything with my friend. We got the chicken al pastor tacos and the lamb barbacoa tacos. The chicken tacos were some of the best I have ever had, and usually chicken tacos are a bit dry to me. But these? Were perfect. The lamb tacos were also pretty good but the chicken outshines it. The potato empanadas were serious, like so fresh and flakey. You can tell it was freshly made and not just sitting out there. The star of the show 100% has to be the chicken and biscuits. Like that biscuit was so buttery and flakey and not dry. The spicy butter really compliments them well. Also tried all three juices and the kool-aid hibiscus is a must try! Overall, this has to be my new favorite spot. Especially for those tacos alone! I will be back! read more

The food was good. The elotes were not what I was expecting. They come cold; they are pre-made and prepackaged. It was okay with the complimentary chips. I'm actually not sure if the elotes come with chips or if the chips were supposed to be accompanied with a salsa. We did not receive anything with the chips. The fried wings are very crispy. The biscuit is buttery and worth buying a la carte. I ordered a lamb smashburger for myself and while it tasted great, it felt it came with the wrong bread. I couldn't eat all of it because it is quite filling. My husband ordered the fried chicken torta and shared the same thoughts- the bread doesn't feel right. With the fried, breaded chicken and other fillings, the torta felt too heavy. Each meal was served with a mound of seasoned fries. The hot donuts are delightful and huge. They're very much like a beignet and are served hot, covered in a sugar glaze and powdered sugar. Unfortunately we were already breaded out by our meal so my husband and I split one! The space inside is smaller but there is seating for maybe 10 folks. I think as far as halal food goes, it's nice to have this as another option instead of Indian and Middle Eastern food. Migos Fine Food is a must stop if you're in the area. It has a tiny space a few spots to sit which a group of us that went did. But it seems like the locals order for pickup. We were greeted warmly by the lady at the counter and she was super friendly and understanding with the different questions I was asking about the menu. Great customer service really elevates an experience. I couldn't make up my mind so I ordered a few different things off of the menu such as the lamb smashburger, potato Empanadas, charred elites, lamb carnitas, strawberry cucumber drink. With the amount I spent I earned some of their doughnuts. Before I even get to the food make sure to try their doughnuts. They are large, fluffy and delicious. They did not miss a single thing with their food. They serve halal meats. The lamb smashburger I am still dreaming about it, the lamb was seasoned and tender and the way it comes together in a smashburger form just genius. The starters with the charred elote I was pleasantly surprised as it was more of a dip as it came with chips. I will need to go back to try more items off their menu. This is just an outstanding operation. The empanadas are good, and the little tub of red salsa they come with is outstanding. The lamb carnitas is an amazing box full of food -- delicious lamb cut with a nice salad, but the rice and beans they come with are so outstanding they almost steal the show. The biscuit is also excellent, as is the fried chicken. And the watermelon cucumber limeade is just a tiny bit savory and salty in the perfect way, I almost couldn't believe it wasn't a top-flight cocktail. All of this is apparently halal to boot -- the way they can get pork-like richness, flavors, and textures out of lamb (in the carnitas) and turkey tails (in the beans) is nothing short of inspiring. One of the co-owners happened to be at the register when we came in and he was also extremely generous and friendly. If you're anywhere even vaguely nearby you need to come here. The question you should be asking yourself is how much of the city you are willing to drive across to get here. read more

The food js a full experience and it is clear that there is careful attention in each flavor choice as they blend flavor profiles from different cuisines. They make everything themselves including the incredible honey chipotle butter for the biscuits, their flavorful guacamole, and house-made tortilla chips. The hibiscus kool-aid was also a refreshing twist on a nostalgic drink. The portion sizes are generous and the pricing is well matched to the portions and quality. One of the head chefs served us himself and he was incredibly hospitable, kind, knowledgeable, and attentive which made our dining-in experience so enjoyable (not to mention, very handsome, which didn't hurt). The menu is so vast that you could spend months (and many pounds) trying everything on it. I don't see many halal places with this many options. The lamb carnitas were fantastic. They had a nice bit of heat to them that felt like more of a slow simmer than a fiery explosion. I ate it on a hot summer day, but I can imagine that it would be a godsend on a winter's night. The lamb smash burger was also good, but I didn't like it as much as the carnitas. I think maybe it was too well done, or lamb is just not meant to be burgerfied.
