Found this restaurant online and thought Mexican food sounded good, especially since my family was very hungry. However, once arriving the salsa served with the chips was one of the worst I've ever had. At least the chips were warm. I would like to include that I am in fact Mexican so trust me on this, food was awful and I know what authentic is and this was not it my amigos. I ordered the Chile Verde which was very small and bland for charging me so much. Also, the menu was pretty limited which bugged me. Prices were very inflated for what came on the plate. When I requested another order of tortillas, the waitress looked at me like I was speaking gibberish and I did not see her again (??). Save your money for something, or anything, else. read more

I wanted to like this place but the service was extremely slow and inattentive. It took almost 45 minutes for our food to arrive after we ordered, which is unusual for a Mexican restaurant. This was such a sweet and charming place. Great patio outside and the customer service was awesome! The waitresses were very sweet. Everything was definitely awesome but the reason why I'm giving three stars is simply because I felt like the food had no flavor I got a side of beans and rice which was okay, a side of guacamole it really didn't have much flavor. I also got appetizer of nachos which again was OK but not amazing. It seems like the enchiladas looked good so maybe I'll give it a try again and get that dish :) read more

Love this place and would drive an hour and then take an hour ferry just to eat there again! My husband and I were just on Orcas Island last weekend for our one year wedding anniversary and stayed at Rosario resort. Most of the restaurants on Orcas are in Eastsound, as Mijitas is. I am a big fan of Mexican cuisine and suggested it to my husband for lunch one of the days we were on the island. Boy, were we glad we found this place! Last weekend was just perfect weather...mid to high 70's...so the outside scene at Mijitas was just our style. They have a large patio with lots of tranquil, shaded seating and we chose to sit out there. I believe that our waiter may have been the owner, but either way he was very pleasant and provided great service. Food and Drinks: Ok...WOW. I totally recommend the Paloma margarita...it has Hornitos tequila with fresh squeezed lime and grapefruit juices...amazing! We ordered chicken taquitos to share as an appetizer and while the outside of the taquito was lightly fried, the inside was surprisingly fresh with chicken and onion, topped with guacamole, salsa and sour cream. Speaking of salsa, the chips they served were delicious and we couldn't stop eating the salsa! It was easy to tell that all Mijita's food was freshly prepared. I ordered the nachos for my main dish and as a self-proclaimed nacho connoisseur, I was very pleased! Each chip was individually topped with the ingredients and tasted just as good as it looked! I think that Mijitas is a rare find and the experience of eating there this last weekend was one of the highlights of our trip! I highly recommend!!! read more

Very popular restaurant. We were advised to get reservations for our party of two an made them. Our dinner was excellent. The wait staff was very professional and friendly. It was my husbands birthday and they were sweet to give him a complementary desert with a candle and they sang to him. The atmosphere is charming. We will definitely be returning!! I have had the best dinners here in the past. We stopped in for lunch and I ordered the salad for $12.00. It was the tiniest salad and I walked away hungry. I suppose I could have filled up on chips but the salsa tasted like canned tomatoes with no spice or flavor. I voiced my dissatisfaction to the staff in the most pleasant manner I could and they just gawked at me and said "sorry" Then to add insult to injury I just went online to do my banking and see now that I was double charged for my visit. Nice reasonably priced restaurant, however if you have a party of 6 or more, make a reservation well ahead of time. Our group ordered 3 Chili Verde, 1 short rib, 1 Chile Relleno entrée and 1 salad. Flavor was great on everything, with the short ribs being the most unique. One Chile Verde plate had a portion that was smaller and more fatty than the other two. However when we pointed this out to the server, she immediately took care of this, bringing back a much nicer plate. Excellent! The patio itself is worth a visit.....so cool. Just really perfect patio. Luckily the food matches up to the scale and way cool vibe of the patio. Yes, I loved the patio. The menu was a little different than a typical mexican restaurant. Food was super good, a couple of us had the marinated skirt steak with rice and beans and of course, tortillas on the side. It was perfectly marinated and cooked. The margaritas were a little bit overpriced, but they were amazing. Overall we loved this place and will come back when we visit Orcas next time. We had a great time at Mijitas! I had the Chile Relleno and the wife had the seafood tacos. Went on a weekday evening and we were sat quickly and the service was great. The alcoholic drinks, especially the margaritas are very expensive, but then again this is a "one off" establishment, without the "economies of scale"of chain restaurants, so that's to be understood. The Veracruz Snapper dish was delicious, light, healthy and truly one of the best meals I've had in awhile. Our group of four shared the chocolate mousse/cream dessert which was unlike anything any of us had ever tasted and sublimely delicious....truly unique and mouth watering. Came here for dinner on an offseason weeknight, and stood around watching the staff walked by us, meet our eyes, and keep walking. One man finally stopped and said he would be right with us then kept working and passing by us multiple times while they were many tables open. Another staff member walked by and said somebody would be with us soon. The original guy came back and asked us if we had reservations, we said no and asked him if we could have one of the many empty tables. He looked at them looked at us and said no those would not be available and said he would work on clearing a different table for us. Again he continued working, clearly unfriendly and uninterested in having us as a customer. This place has an incredibly expensive menu for a beach town, and with that we expect service to be stellar. The best Mexican food. Hands down. We stopped by after a recommendation from one of the local shop owners. So glad we took her up on it! We never would have thought that Mexican food would be tasty up on Orcas, but it was! My boyfriend is Mexican, and this has his seal of approval. Great food, yummy drinks, and great service! I really like the idea of this place, but that's about it. As other reviews stated over and over the wait to get seated is quite long unless you have a reservation. I really had high hopes for something amazing after the hour long wait but the best part of the meal was the chips. They were damn tasty!!! The guac was also quite good!!! We're off to a great start - two stars for the chips and guac!! But alas, it all ended there! We had the house margis and they were tasty but extremely weak. The corn thingy appetizer was from a can which was disappointing (basically, open the can, dump into a pretty bowl, garnish and serve). My chili verde was mostly beans and rice and about 10 itsy pieces of pork. My partner's carne asada was the saddest little piece of steak I've ever seen!!! The whole experience was such a letdown for $85. I think the only thing made fresh was the lime juice in our margis - everything else came from a can :( read more

I had to share with a lot of people because I was so excited. It's made with sweet tender pork in a great green sauce with nopalitos. Absolutely incredible. Highly recommend. The positives are the food and atmosphere!! Loved my crab enchiladas, however, had I not asked our server if they were a special, I would not have known they had them! Delicious, cooked perfectly and served with a choice of salad or rice and beans. My husband loved his simmered pork with corn tortillas under the specialties. Now, the negatives- we made our reservation 2 weeks in advance for 6:30 pm, we arrived at 6, thinking we would sit in the bar and have a margarita...no bar. The hostess informed us it would be closer to 6:30 before we would sit and she would get us a drink to sit out on the patio. She did and it was delish! We noticed a couple come in about 10 minutes later, with no reservation, locals as it turns out. At about 6:30 they were called in to sit. We waited until 6:45 pm before we were called. About 10 groups had come by while we sat and were told there was nothing available until 8pm. So, lesson learned, locals over reservations. 12 tables in restaurant. read more

We came here to try the food and saw many empty tables but could not get in as we had no reservation. They just turned us away, didn't offer us a wait time. No one else was there waiting for a table. So do not go here unless you make a reservation no matter if there are 5 tables open. read more

We ate here a couple years ago when it was a different Mexican restaurant and it was pretty good, and quite busy. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing today, but it was absolutely terrible. And we waited around for two hours for them to open just so we could eat there. Anyway, I ordered the Pollo Al Carbon and it was more like "Pollo Al Crapon." First of all, the meal was almost all rice and the rice itself was pretty lacking in flavor and was mushy. The biggest problem though was that the Pollo was, well, it was the smallest piece of chicken I have ever seen and it was dried out. It looked like a piece of chicken that you would get in one of those little Healthy Choice frozen dinners or something. And it wasn't even boneless. Sorry to say it, but I've had better at Taco Bell, and for a lot less money. Yuck. read more

Amazing! For a couple who aren't into Mexican food and the traditional beans and cheese burritos, we took a gamble on this place and came out very happy. The pork tenderloin and snapper were both amazing and bursting with flavors. The foods was average but the worst thing was that the prices on our bill did not match the menu!! The margaritas were good, however the menu said $11.00 and they charged $20.00! We waited about an hour (no problem with that) but then got seated right next to bathroom and had terrible service all night. We barely could find our waitress and the food was just OK. I was very excited to visit here as I read a lot of great things, but I was unfortunately let down. My advice is to make sure you get a seat outside - the inside just isn't the same vibe. read more

On top of that, we got horrible service from a pompous, know-it-all waiter who trash-talked the former owners of the restaurant, calling them "Gringos who never once went to Mexico." We had a pleasant dinner here. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful and the food satisfying. The dishes weren't anything that blew me out of the water - especially once you are getting to $15 or $20 for an entree - but it was definitely pretty tasty and filling. The decor inside is rather dark and dated feeling but homey. I think the outdoor seating on a warmer evening would give a better impression. Overall, not a bad spot. read more
