The best sushi in the area, hands down. Don't be fooled by the aging facade, this is the freshest sushi I've had in Glens Falls. My wife and I came in here by accident as the sushi place we usually go to is now closed on monday, We wanted sushi really bad so we decided to give Mikado a try. We were blown away. "A Suitable Solution" Strolled in without a reso, didn't plan on eating here but that is where we landed. The décor and recent makeover looked nice, it definitely needed it. Vibrant, fun new look. We chose hibachi and also ordered appetizers and sushi. The edamame was over cooked it was annoying to eat but what tasted like a mixture of sea salt and butter that was added to it was a pleasant surprise. Sushi options and variety were much more elaborate than I expected. We chose several and enjoyed them all. Some were some of the better sushi we have had locally and others were a substandard version. The soup and salad that was brought to us prior to our entrée was decent. The salad was the same awkward "American house salad-iceberg, cucumbers, tomatoes, and red onion" with the random "Asian touch" of the repetitious ginger dressing. The soup, however was a change, and a pleasant one. A clear broth with scallions and mushrooms, nice flavor, nice change. The hibachi meal itself was decent and very large portion. The chicken actually had flavor and wasn't dried out. Steak, the same, cooked perfectly. Spring for the fried rice in addition to the noodles, probably one of the better ones I have had at a hibachi. Skipped dessert as we had more than enough to eat and were taking home large portions as leftovers. Good bang for the buck would go back again but wouldn't be my first choice in downtown eating. read more

I can not say enough good things about this place... Service is always outstanding. I have eaten in the restaurant 15-20 times and have probably done a equal number of take out meals to bring home for the wife and I on nights we don't have a babysitter.... I have not eaten many things from the menu because the Sushi is that good.... We order 5-6 rolls and eat that as our whole meal. If you like spicy the Heartattack roll is awesome. Danny and Joe the Sushi guys are always awesome and make you feel at home by calling you by name when you come in. They always bring me some edamame, or a seaweed salad when I am waiting for pick up along with a Sapporo. I don't even need to ask.... They have a cooked edamame that is amazing, I am not sure what the seasoning is but its outstanding. I highly recommend this place. It might not be pretty to look at but i can't wait to see their new location on Glen they are moving into in a few months.... Try it! read more

I've been going to mikado for 12 years. I've never been disappointed. The sushi outstanding. I've been to nobu and nobu next door in NYC. I always find myself craving mikado sushi. My family and friends love their hibachi tables and the waiters and waitress are awesome. And when mikado gets busy the staff does the very best to accommodate everyone. They have been around for more than the 12 or so years ,( I think) but my family and I have been going since my son was 4. He's now 18. and yes they may need some paint but I promise you , you'll never notice once the food hits your mouth!! read more

Went for lunch. Hibachi was good. Show was ok. Yaki Noodle wasn't great. Price was good. Waitress was very nice. Place smelt bad and didn't feel very clean. Saw several flies. read more

After waiting for 20 minutes at Siam Thai Sushi, and not even having the hostess address our existence we left and headed to this local restaurant, Mikado. Expecting that the service couldn't be much worse in this fairly empty eatery, we entered and were told to sit where ever. Unfortunately, we had to wait 15 minutes for a menu; just one for two people. I love cocking my neck at a 90 degree angle and sharing a menu with the person across from me. It only required hunting down a waitress after 20 minutes of waiting to have our orders taken. After ordering, and waiting another 15 minutes our waitress came over and asked if she forgot anything... Making her seem ever more incompetent. Our appetizer eventually trickled out (the zombie roll was good) and then we only had to wait a mere 40 minutes for the entree to follow. The food was mediocre... Not worth the time or money. read more

Sushi roll selection is great, but the restaurant needs a remodel... Last time I ate there my table shook it was so beat up, and the drinks left something to be desired. Overall I like the food, but usually skip it bc of the atmosphere. read more

I just graduated from college this year and decided to go with my friends and family to Mikado to give it a shot. I was not expecting on having such a great time as I did. The restaurant itself was kinda dirty. Our server was rude to say the least. He started out by informing us that since we were such a large group, he was probably going to get our orders wrong. I ate here in October 2011. I ordered the shrimp and vegetable tempura and my guest ordered chicken terryaki. We also ordered a beef roll appetizer. The waitress was nice and took our order in a timely manner. We received our drinks and our appetizer within a few minutes of sitting down. So far so good on the timing, but the beef roll left something to be desired. It was literally drippping with grease. Needless to say we didn't bother eating it. I hoped the entrees would be better than the appetizer. My guest liked his terryaki (what can you do wrong with that anyway) but the tempura was dripping with grease and it was served with an ice cold dipping sauce. I've eatten tempura in lots of Japanese restaurants and have never received it with an ice cold sauce. Sort of defeats the purpose of ordering hot food. I asked the waitress if this should be served hot, or at least warm, and she informed me that was how they served it there. She did take it back and warm it up. I took all the greasy batter off the shrimp and vegetables and half-heartedly ate my meal since I was starving at the time and didn't want to wait for them to make another entree for me. While the service was good the food was below par. There are just too many places to eat in Glens Falls to waste money going there again. read more
