I'm giving 5 stars because our server Jill was prompt attentive and accurate...... And because the tempura udon noodle soup was the best Ive ever had.... No exaggeration here. Although I'd never been to their old location, I was very impressed upfront by their new location. Great atmosphere. We got the NY burrito sushi as an appetizer, which was phenomenal. Best sushi I've had in the area. I got a basic noodle stir fry, and my boyfriend got pho. Both were exceptional. Our waiter was attentive. I had a question about the stir fry sauce, and although he didn't know the answer, he promptly found out for me. We got there a little bit before what I would assume would be their dinner rush; there were a few full tables, but it wasn't totally packed. Although I can't attest to the speed of service when they're busy, I can say that we got everything in a very timely manner. No complaints! I'll definitely be back! read more

New chef and new lease on life. Great sushi and the spaz has left the building.

First visit somewhat unimpressive. Overall, there is a noisy, cold and chaotic ambiance. The staff appeared overwhelmed and disorganized throughout the visit on a busy Friday evening. We were seated in the main dining area but asked to be moved as the front entrance door produced cold wind gusts with every entry. We were then seated in a small alcove adjacent to the hibachi table area. This alcove seemed to be an afterthought for space between the rest room wall and the hibachi room wall. Avoid this space as it's like dining in your unfinished hallway. Besides the very noisy hibachi area and the very nice sushi bar, the only other dining areas are a small front corner next to the very large bar or the bar itself which looked like a good option. Except for the cold air flowing from the entry way. Mikado has always delivered excellent sushi, still does from their new larger, well staffed operation. But our apps and stir fry selections were quite ordinary and reminded us of the former locations quality issues beyond sushi. As mentioned earlier, the staff seemed disorganized and hurried but very pleasant and accommodating despite the busy night. Won't hurry back unless for the sushi bar and a middle of the week visit. read more

We recently ate here 7/9/21 food is usually consistent and delicious last night we had habachi and the chicken wasn't cook and the noodles were burnt for a small group paying over 300 dollars was disappointing and for the price is not worth the inconsistency and not knowing whether the food will be satisfying or not read more

We stopped by this town on the way up to Montreal, and this was the only place that was still opened (other than BK and Pizza Hut). They served other type of food besides Japanese (I believed Korean if I'm not mistaken). We ordered different type of sushi and rolls because we weren't too hungry. Sushi was fresh - nothing out of the ordinary. My favorite had to be the squid salad. Coo coo. Rad rad. *nice town btw. read more

The value is worth it and the execution is very skillful. I highly recommend these guys as one of the go to sushi places in the area and have been her the longest. Absolutely horrible! Waited 20+ minutes after being seated before we had to ask for a server. Appetizer was brought out with one meal, they forgot my boyfriends meal. Forgot to bring back beer. Comped the $10 uneaten calamari, but didn't comp anything else for the horrible experience, even though the server (Floor Manager) knew he screwed up all night after he apologized. Spent 2 hours and $100 on horrible service, burnt habachi scallops and an awful experience. read more

What I love about Mikado is of course, the sushi. However, every visit I've had to Mikado (which is several) has had at LEAST a 40 minute wait for about 4 rolls. They only have 1 sushi chef, and 3 hibachi chefs. For the taste of the food, and the amount of business I see them do with sushi, they should think of hiring another sushi chef. Overall, great food, the place needs a little renovation, great wait staff (except Matt is always high and doesn't seem to know when to let the customers be to eat) and med-to-slow wait time for food. Make of this what you will-- I really like their sushi so I still put up with what I don't like about the place. read more

My sister-in-law worked here for five years and when my parents moved to the area, this was our first destination. We ordered a variety of sushi to start and each one was better than the last one. My SOL picked them out so I can't even tell you what was in each one but I have never had better sushi so I think it is safe to say that whatever you order you can't go wrong. I had the shrimp tempura dinner and it was delicious. It came with quite a few shrimp and many pieces of fried veggies too. Also it came with rice, miso soup and salad. I was happily full by the end of the meal. I can definitely understand why my SOL's face lit up when my parents suggested going here for dinner. I would gladly return. read more

Love, love, love this place. This Japanese-Korean restaurant has a little bit of everything. It has a two hibachi tables, which tend to be the main attraction for many. The food is delicious; the portions are generous, and the show is entertaining. One note here though--if you're coming on a weekend and want to sit at one of these tables, a reservation is a must. The sushi here is outstanding as well. If you like maki sushi, then you've gotta check out their menu because their maki menu, which contains tons of thoughtful, creative, tasty, and reasonably priced rolls. The young roll, naked roll, rock and roll, and dragon roll are my favorites. In fact, when I go to a sushi restaurant, Mikado is my quality benchmark. Mmm.. If sushi and hibachi aren't your thing, their traditional Japanese food, which includes terriyakis and that sort of thing, are good too, but if you're up for something adventurous with a bit more spice, I recommend their Korean specialties, which are amazing. If you judge a restaurant by first impressions when walking up and walking in...you won't be disappointed. This place is every bit of what it looks like; "a dump". I try to overlook appearances and judge by the quality of the meal and the service. Well, service rates an F and food a D-. We had a reservation for a regular table (as opposed to a seat at the hibachi) and were directed to the hibachi. Strike number 1. Then we were walked to our table where we were given 1 menu Strike 2...we had to ask for another menu. The waitress seemed nice but failed to inform us about the "specials". We ordered from the regular menu and waited a long time before any food appeared...and then....finally...my wife's dish arrived. She asked for no teryaki and it was dripping in sauce...she asked for white rice and it came with noodles. My dish shortly followed only if you define shortly as 15 minutes later. I ordered the ginger swordfish..it was just ok. I am new to the Queensbury/Glens Falls area and I am hoping I find a good Japanese restaurant. Tonight was a complete diappointment. read more

This is a small but solid hibachi restaurant. The food was good, not to much of any one seasoning, which created a nice balanced plate. The showmanship of our chef however prevented this from being 4 stars. He was below average in my experience and many of the" tricks" i enjoy seeing were not performed. I just got take out lunch from here last week. Two rolls for $15, a treat but not an extravagant one. I got the spicy salmon roll with added avocado and a shrimp tempura with cucumber. I was glad to see white ginger and not the artificial pink! I will definitely come back for more. read more

Great sushi and teriyaki. Service was slow, but they made up for it once I made it clear that we had been waiting too long. The waitress Sam apologized, brought us a freebie edamame, and the food was worth the wait! They had a very large hibachi group in back, and I think that threw them a bit. Good sushi, terribly slow service and how hard is it to make a daquiri? Met some friends here for sushi. First of all, the place is nothing to look at, but that has never stopped a place from having good food. We decided to get some drinks while we waited for our friends. My husband ordered a 'large' beer thinking it would be a draft...he got a MONSTER can of beer probably equivalent to at least 3 drafts...bonus! I couldn't decide what to drink and ordered a daquiri...what a mistake! The waitress brought it to the table and it was the color of fizzy pink soda with whipped cream, SPRINKLES AND A CHERRY ON TOP (whaaaaattttt?!)! It even tasted worse than is looked, like a fizzy strawberry soda with absolutely no liquor in it. Tried to pawn it off on our friends when they got there, but after one taste we had no takers. Service was extremely slow, considering there were very few people eating sushi that night. However, the sushi was good and fresh. Some of my favorites were the Tuna Tataki and Tuna Salmon Mango Tartar (apps), and the Fire Cracker Roll and Red Dragon Roll. We also got the sushi for 4, which was good, but too much sashimi and too few rolls on it for me. So food was good, if you don't mind waiting a long time for it, but beware of the specialty drinks. read more

Worst dining experience ever. If you don't believe it, eat it off the side of the highway where we proceeded to chuck our leftovers out the window after eating. On our bill, they added a tip automatically, which the waitress did not deserve. We ordered the squid, which was what the waitress suggested since they didn't have octopus, and it came out rotten. Kimchi was good though so it set our expectations at a pretty good level just to be let down by every single other plate of food they set on our table. The most pleasurable thing was the water but the waitress was slow at refilling it that I'm currently suffering from symptoms of dehydration. We payed $130, including the $20 tip that was pre-added to our bill, and we are very disappointed. read more

When I went here about ten years ago, their portions for sushi were small and pricy, and I concluded that I would not go again. Since then I recently was obliged to go there for a friend's birthday party. They did a complete 360. Portions were just right, sake was great, and the hibachi cook was funny and entertaining. They were very attentive, and I couldn't ask for more. I think I will be having my birthday there in may. It'll be fun. read more

Had high expectations, left with a sour taste in our mouths. Service was slow, got our sushi right away, turned out it was for another table. Had to ask a random waitress for more drinks. Food took a while to come out. When it finally came my girlfriend bit into a spring roll only to find a piece of plastic inside. After an hour and a half we left with our sushi in a box. They did remove the spring roll from our bill and dropped it 20% , but still made for an underwhelming experience for which we had high expectations. read more

Our dinner began on a high note with the arrival of a small bowl of perhaps the best kimchi I have ever tasted: incredibly fresh, vibrant and leaving a bit of fizz on the tongue from its recent fermentation in the kitchen. According to our waitress, this venerable "Japanese Steakhouse" has been operated for the last 15 years or so by a Korean family and they certainly know their kimchi. We were also dazzled by the dish of exquisitely tender fried tofu our daughter ordered. But dinner went downhill from there. Sushi was amateurish at best--badly rolled and bland. My wife never found the "crunch" in her "tuna crunch roll." And the "fish tacos" were an embarrassment: What arrived were two hard shells like you would find from El Paso brand, filled with a tuna substance more like baby food and slathered with mayo-ee sauces. The chef methinks likes his squirt bottles too much. We never did see the hibachi pork belly special I ordered. After all the other food had been eaten, we stared at dirty plates and watched the hibachi chef entertaining a small group of diners at the far end of the restaurant. Our waitress explained that the process was "complicated." Finally, after the waitress failed to remove the dirty china despite several passes, we stacked it at the side of the table and asked for the check. She did not charge us for the pork belly. Despite our disappointment, we plan to return based solely on the transcendent experience of that kimchi and try the Mikado's Korean fare, which is almost hidden away in a lower corner of the epic Japanese menu. Apparently the owners are unaware that Korean is really hot right now. But never again the sushi. read more

The best sushi in the area, hands down. Don't be fooled by the aging facade, this is the freshest sushi I've had in Glens Falls. My wife and I came in here by accident as the sushi place we usually go to is now closed on monday, We wanted sushi really bad so we decided to give Mikado a try. We were blown away. Did not expect that level of authenticity, freshness, or service. We are sold, Mikado is our new "go to", sushi restaurant whenever we are in Glens Falls. read more
