A long established institution in the Glens Falls area that has consistently brought quality, flavor and experience to the forefront of their business. Compared to their old location, this place is spacious. Had dinner here with the family and was lucky enough not to have to wait too long. They asked for my number for contact tracing and seated us. Table spacing was good. Ordered the seafood pancake, jaeyuk bokkum, salmon rolls, and bibimbap. Enjoyed everything we ate. The pancake didn't have the texture that mom would make. Server was very nice, though she was waiting on tables in different sections which slowed service a little. Grateful to find a Korean place in the area and will be visiting again. read more

I went to this establishment for the first time a few weeks ago. The menu is quite diverse, offering a good variety of foods. You can have sushi or tempura or hibachi, among other Asian dishes. This is a restaurant that can satisfy a group with different tastes. I will go back with my wife, who won't eat sushi, but likes hibachi-style meals. Tha atmosphere is very pleasant and you won't feel rushed through your meal. Lastly, they do a good job of socially- distancing the tables. Give Mikado a shot. read more

Great food great looking place. Unfortunately the last time we went they had a ton of flies and when I complained they brushed it off like it's normal to have that many flies in your restaurant. I won't come back until I see improvement with how they are cleaning the restaurant. read more

Another lousy meal at this place spoiled by the same waitress we had the last time who obviously doesn't know how to stack and stagger orders. Everything was rushed. Our food was out right after we got the appetizers. We were so rushed that my sister actually got a piece of food stuck down her throat and it was her husband and a man at the next table who saved her life. The waitress could care less. Absolutely terrible. We will never go here again. Just a heads up for anyone considering eating at this place (I won't say dining because you don't here with the way they rush you), order your appetizer first and make sure you take your time and eat it before ordering your dinner. What breath of fresh air walking into the new Mikado. Years ago, before I left the region, I was a regular at the old Mikado because of the sushi- always fresh, done right, presented right, priced right, however I was never a fan of the dark style of the actual location. Old, dark, etc... There is none of that now. The new location, the decor, the choice of the art work, the lighting. Beautiful! And they have something that almost always lost on so many Asian restaurants and a big complaint of their last location: The have a simply wonderful Bar! Expansive, extensive without being overly expensive. I've only had the opportunity to sit and eat at the bar on 2 occasions, ordering ala crate from the sushi bar so I can't comment on the new menu, but I do promise to update my review as I continue to patronize my new old favorite place to eat, drink and socialize in downtown Glens Falls. The only unfortunate black mark I do have for Mikado is a common complaint that I have with so many restaurant makeovers is this: Sound and music! Too often one of the most overlooked parts of a makeover is an appropriate sound system and acoustic modeling. The bar when busy is overly loud and there is little or no attention to music. My wife and I enjoyed our experience here minus the seating as we were seated in a very small room off from the main seating area where there was only room for four. There was raw chicken in my steak plate. I lost my appetite and handed my plate back- the waitress told the owner and they insisted that they make me another plate. Except by that point, I did not want any more. They apologized and insisted that I take the plate. In fact, I had to give the plate away because I was staying at a hotel with no refrigerator. Not bad. Went there tonight for the first time and didn't have my hopes up. Ordered a bunch of sushi - all of which was very fresh and good quality. I didn't have enough courage to order the uni....maybe some other time, though (since that's a true test of a Japanese place to me). The salmon sushi was excellent...the yellowtail and white tuna were also very good. Scallop - not bad. Mackerel- surprisingly good. Ikura and Masago - decent. We had 3 rolls: Mexican, Young (both specialty) and salmon/avocado. The avocado was perfect and smooth...my only complaint was that some of the seaweed was a bit chewy. That's a big pet peeve of mine. The salad in the beginning was simple....the ginger dressing was OK - I have had better. The steamed shrimp shumai was good - just the right texture and fishiness. We ordered hot tea- I really liked that a pot was brought for the 2 of us. The service was very good..it took a little while for the sushi (and one of the rolls was missing), but the waitress was friendly, quick and efficient. The interior could use a face lift, but there is a lot of seating. I'll definitely go back to try some of the Korean fare...the menu is quite extensive and includes lots of cooked alternatives for the sushi-phobic. When we enter the restaurant there was a korean cashier was rolling her eyes and asked 'inside, outside?' And i felt she was not in a happy mood. While we were having meal even my son couldn't finished half of his meal our server came over and over every minute to check if our meal was over. We had a great meal last weekend at the Mikado - getting a bevy of different kinds of foods, and - while it was busy - having a great experience with the waitstaff. Our main waiter was nice, polite, a little jokey with us, and kept us in full water glasses. The service wasn't slow (as others have stated), and we got our meals in plenty of time to head to the theater next door. We also had a visit by the owner (I think) who very kindly looked up a vegetable my parents were wondering about for us. The food was good - there were a couple of questions (corn in the ramen, a sushi roll intense with smoke flavor), but overall everyone liked their meals. We got a few kinds of soup, soba noodles of many kinds, a spicy chicken, a tempura pork and a BOATLOAD of sushi (not the actual boat, but that looked awesome.) The standard rolls were done well, the fish tasted fresh for being in the middle of the mainland, and we thought all of the hot dishes came out perfectly, too. The ambiance of the new place is great too - big, tall ceilings, warm, inviting decor, and lots of little nooks for tables. We will certainly be back, and I am proud to have been going to the Mikado for years since I was a kid being wow'd at a Hibachi table! read more

Went in a bit late on a Tuesday, but still almost a hour before close. Apologized for the timing with the waiter who said it was no problem and that the full menu was available. We ordered japanese fried chicken and tacoyaki as appetizers. The chicken was passable by the tacoyaki looked like the frozen gumdrop lookin stuff in the freezer section of the grocers. My girl friends Katsudon was as though someone made a small chicken fried steak with canned brown gravy and dumped it over reheated mushy rice. The capper of the evening came in two parts. 4 angry sweaty employees decided to have a difference of opinion loudly in the dining room and to punctuate their Korean language argument with a number of American f bombs. This was just before close, so I queried my waiter as to the status of the squid fried rice I had ordered at the onset. The expression on his face told the story, however he mustered a theatrical trip to the,now empty, kitchen and returned with the news that they were out of squid fried rice. Woulda been nice to know that a hour ago when I ordered it. I lived in Korea for over a year, so I kinda know what right looks like in that cuisine. This is not what it looks like. Awful food, awful service. If they didn't want to serve us food they shoulda said so at 9 I'd have understood completely. Place needs an attitude adjustment and some proper management/leadership. Went here after coronavirus, sat outside, waiter was friendly enough, but did not write anything down. After getting 4 of the wrong beer 1 for each of us at the table), I shrugged it off, chalked it up to **it happens, I ordered ramen and was excited, for our food and my broth spoon was submerged in the ramen. Okay okay it's not any one persons fault. Find a HUGE piece of plastic wrap in my ramen, so I ask to speak to a manager. Manager comes over and assured me it's because of the pork, rather than actually talking she seemed very uncomfortable and ran away with the bowl. Got charged for the ramen, AND got charged for food we never received ( only a side of spicy mayo but at this point it all starts to add up) I'm sure on another night none of this would happen but I think the way they handled everything was very poor. read more

COVID-19 related I was at a local restaurant today with some friends when the owner of the Mikado came in and preceeded to ignore the 2,000 signs all over the doors and walls asking customers to respect social distancing and to wear a mask but he thinks he's special so he tried to plow through but the hostess stopped him and asked him to put a mask on. He motioned to the table and she said that he still had to wear a mask while he was walking to the table and graciously handed him one. He huffed and puffed, mumbled something under his breath and then put it on and went to his table. If this is how seriously he takes the pandemic away from his restaurant, I can only imagine what guidelines he ignores at his own. I will never step foot at his establishment again and we were going there once a week but no more. Disgusted. read more

Love the hibachi. Great chefs that are enthusiastic and talented. The owners are great people and have invested a lot in the new location as evidenced by the excellent atmosphere. I do wish they would do something about the volume of the place - it's pretty loud. Toward the end of you meal it kind of encourages you to leave in order to calm the nerves, but maybe that's a genius plan to help turn tables over faster! Regardless, the food is tasty and we've been several times and are looking forward to going more in the future. read more

We won't be going back. We've tried it a few times the last couple of years and it just gets worse. The sushi roll was awful. But even worse was the Pho. No Thai basil? How do you even serve Pho without Thai basil? We pointed this out to the waiter. He went back to the kitchen to enquire. When he returned, he just shrugged his shoulders and said, "Nope!" The "KFC" or "Korean Fried Chicken" is just bony wings that don't even measure up to the Colonel. The octopus salad is just some slabs of octopus tossed in a bowl with daikon radish. The only thing remotely recommendable was a "low-carb" "samurai roll" without rIce and lightly fried, but that only arrived after a totally different dish was brought to the table by mistake and was rejected. The restaurant is located next to the Wood theater - very convenient. We ate dinner and a lunch and the result was quite similar. I had swordfish the first time salmon lunch box today. We just stopped in for sushi at the bar first time in the new place on Glen St. The restaurant is bright and cheerful with interesting lighting and art. The staff were friendly. We had 3 rolls. The eel, the spicy tuna and Mango Tango with mango, avocado, almonds and crab. They were beautifully presented and delicious. We will go back for more in the future! read more

Mikado? More like... Mikadon't!!!! We just left and didn't eat. We sat at 7:30, ordered at 7:45-7:50. By 9, we still didn't have our meals. What we WERE able to get were 3 pints of soda, one of which had a lemon seed in it (sans lemon), and 4 appetizers that were just NOT good. Not only that, the waitress gave the pork to the vegetarian and the vegetarian app to the carnivore. Luckily, we were smart enough to open the gyoza and inspect it before the vegetarian in our party ate it. "IT TASTES LIKE FEET IN MY MOUTH." - my fiance My spring rolls were burned. Sooooo... I just told the waitress we were leaving and to cancel our order. Now we're on our way to Saratoga to eat something. Maybe we'll get to eat by 10pm. Bar service at Mikado is awesome. The bar tenders were very informative about the food menu and drinks. Very courteous and pleasant. Our hibachi chef was fun and nice. However the wait staff working the hibachi area we found to be very rude. Of particular concern is the failure to split checks between me and my friends in a party of 4 even though we made it clear we were all separate at the beginning of the order. We still got a single check! In addition an application of gratuity of 20% because we asked for split checks. I've never heard of this practice for individual checks. I am very familiar with this for large parties. Me and my friends are generous tippers individually. We shared this with the manager who was also ill equipped to answer our questions regarding this addition to our bills. We do not plan to return to Mikado for these reasons. read more

Since I first started going there, Mikado's has been through three changes of ownership (at least!) It's easily the most bought and sold restaurant in town. Although the menu and environment don't change much with each iteration, the food has had many subtle changes over time; however, that being said, Mikado is probably the best hibachi in a hundred miles and easily trumps similar restaurants in Albany, Saratoga, or Lake George. The grill style food is really the highlight here, although the sushi is good as well. My personal favorite are the split-dish meals. It's essentially a three course meal for under $30; served with miso/broth soup, a delightful ginger salad, and entrées come with a vegetable medley and a choice of white or friend rice (which my brother enjoys so much he orders two sides to go every time we visit). The wait-staff and chefs are friendly and the setting is clean, but the decor isn't the star attraction here. The environment is dim and quiet, which the exception of the hibachi tables which can get to be quite the ruckus. In addition to the regular bar there's also a selection of saké, although as one would expect due to the location it's not phenomenal. A surprise awaits though in a very generous and well thought out selection of Japanese and Asian beers. For the most part I like hibachi because it's simple, warm, and always flavorful food prepared in a very social setting. Benihana style hibachi may have its fair share of detractors, but if it appeals to you, Mikado has some of the best around. read more

Bottom Line: Tasty and affordable sushi near Saratoga but service execution leaves a little to be desired. I can't deny that I greedily gobbled each $6-8 roll, savoring the copious amount of sea creature flesh on each crafty slice. Designer sushi is fairly common and the flavors here are well put together and please the mouth. Add in a monster liter of the Beer for All Seasons (Asahi) and you have a solid meal. The variety is excellent and ordering is simply checking off what you want on an order form. My friend has never had a problem customizing her rolls due to a severe case of mayo aversion. The miso soup is hot and full flavored but doesn't shoot off fireworks with every gulp. But when you throw in the fairly slow service (I can't imagine the speed of service if there were more than a handful of patrons) and a predominately family atmosphere, it's hard to say it's best sushi experience I've had. The people are nice and want you to have a nice experience but the benefit of slowly spending time, chatting with friends, should be an option and not a necessity. But are neon lights and trance music in the background really necessary? Street parking is close by and seemingly always available. Glen's Falls is a short jaunt from Saratoga. It's not pretentious but good, honest sushi. I like to think of Mikado's as a neighborhood joint; you just stroll in, relax, and have a friend make you some food. And you wouldn't feel bad if you ate there in pajamas. read more

Although I'd never been to their old location, I was very impressed upfront by their new location. Great atmosphere. We got the NY burrito sushi as an appetizer, which was phenomenal. Best sushi I've had in the area. I got a basic noodle stir fry, and my boyfriend got pho. Both were exceptional. Our waiter was attentive. I had a question about the stir fry sauce, and although he didn't know the answer, he promptly found out for me. We got there a little bit before what I would assume would be their dinner rush; there were a few full tables, but it wasn't totally packed. Although I can't attest to the speed of service when they're busy, I can say that we got everything in a very timely manner. No complaints! I'll definitely be back! read more

First visit somewhat unimpressive. Overall, there is a noisy, cold and chaotic ambiance. The staff appeared overwhelmed and disorganized throughout the visit on a busy Friday evening. We were seated in the main dining area but asked to be moved as the front entrance door produced cold wind gusts with every entry. We were then seated in a small alcove adjacent to the hibachi table area. This alcove seemed to be an afterthought for space between the rest room wall and the hibachi room wall. Avoid this space as it's like dining in your unfinished hallway. Besides the very noisy hibachi area and the very nice sushi bar, the only other dining areas are a small front corner next to the very large bar or the bar itself which looked like a good option. Except for the cold air flowing from the entry way. Mikado has always delivered excellent sushi, still does from their new larger, well staffed operation. But our apps and stir fry selections were quite ordinary and reminded us of the former locations quality issues beyond sushi. As mentioned earlier, the staff seemed disorganized and hurried but very pleasant and accommodating despite the busy night. Won't hurry back unless for the sushi bar and a middle of the week visit. read more
