As for the atmosphere, I felt like I walked into my West Texas hometown diner where everyone knows everybody. The decor is cheap and a little cheesy, but don't let that fool you. The BBQ is out of this world. That's probably the only time in my life I've ever said that, or will ever say it again. Rarely do foods knock my socks off, but Mike knocked my socks AND my pants off. No, not really. But almost. I got the chopped brisket sandwich, jalapeno corn casserole, double breaded okra and coleslaw. Now I know I was only allowed two sides, but I couldn't help but sneak in that glorious 'slaw. Had I not been with a new friend I've only met a few times, I would have grabbed every damn side item they have and made it fit in my tummy somehow. At the end of the line, they have a condiments bar with different types of pickles, onions, japs, sauce and probably a few other things I failed to notice. As far as 'Cue goes, Mike Anderson certainly knows what he's doing. YUM: *Three words: Double. Breaded. Okra. Seriously, this is the best fried okra I've ever had in my life. And I'm a southern girl, I've had my share of fried okra. It's crunchy, seasoned with just a little bit of twang and the okra inside is fresh and soft (if you know okra, you know what I'm talking about). *Chopped brisket sandwiches are tasty, tasty. The bun is buttered and toasted exactly the way a BBQ bun should be, the brisket is smokey and beefy, the BBQ sauce is a perfect blend of spice and sweet. MEH: *The dill potato salad had an acidic something or other in it that actually felt like it was burning my tongue. No bueno. TIPS: *They're only open for lunch, Mon-Sat 10:00-2:30, and they fill up fast. Get there early. *They have a dedicated counter for call-in orders so you don't have to wait in the tremendous line. First of all, I would like to start out this review with do not follow the Google directions on this page. If your directions tell you it's towards Downtown don't head that way. It's right by Medical District and you can't miss it. Holy cow the portions are huge! I ordered to-go the three meats plate with the mustard potato salad and garlic coleslaw. I also got the brisket, sausage AND pulled port (I was a hungry girl). Right when you walk in you see the famous line, but order to-go means you get to walk right up to the front. Can we say "amazingly delicious for your tummy and things?" Seriously, so good. Reminds me a lot of this bbq I use to get in Abilene, but it's WAY better. Cheap too! All that for $12?! Crazy good. I have heard great things about Mike Anderson's from coworkers, and so one Saturday I decided to try it out for lunch. The line wasn't too long when we got there, however it got very long as soon as we sat down. I had the ham, sausage, and brisket with fried okra and cheesy mashed potatoes. The sausage was super yummy, crispy skin and all. The ham was good, a touch dry but overall not bad at all. The brisket was the most disappointing part. It was dry as a bone, and just really lacked flavor. The one price that wasn't as dry, was 70% fat. Yuck. The okra and potatoes were standard, and good. The sweet tea was super yummy. It's been so long since I had BBQ here since the COVID hit. So when lunch rolled around, I just had a sudden urge to get Mike Anderson's BBQ. The meats are always moist and tasty. They offer lots of free sides including spear pickles, slicked pickles, sliced jalapenos, whole pepperoncini, sweet and white sliced onions. And a choice of spicy BBQ sauce, or the original. They also have lots of sides you can pay for that are very tasty. I like the Cheddar and Garlic mashed potato and Devilish Eggs. Today I had the Monster Spud. It's chopped beef (your choice of meat) in a large baked potato with cheese, sour cream, and BBQ sauce. I paid $13 for it, and may sound like a lot, but trust me this potato is just huge. I'm a big guy, and I couldn't finish it in one sitting. I also got a Smoked Stuffed Jalapeño for $4 which is a Jalapeno stuffed with beef and wrapped in bacon, and is really tasty. A few of these could be a meal in themselves. Plenty of parking in the lot so that shouldn't be an issue, though it does have a few potholes to dodge. Back in October 2nd of 2021, my best friend and I met in Dallas, she came from Houston I came from Little Rock and we decided we wanted barbecue. We entered it into her cars navigation, and it brought us to Mike Anderson's. (Note to self: listen to the Tesla when it tells you where to eat!) Neither of us was very hungry, and even considered sharing a plate. However, we got two separate orders, sat down to eat, and instantly became grateful that we ordered two separate plates. This barbecue sauce and anything you put it on, was the absolute best I have ever tasted. The sides were incredible, everything was divine. We are meeting in Dallas again, on 18 March, and you better believe we plan to eat there. The only mistake we both made was not buying enough extra bottles of sauce to take home, because they don't ship it. If we meet every six months I think six bottles of the regular and six bottles of the smoked jalapeño should be enough to last until our next visit. Just finished eating at Mike A's. I am full. Had the pulled pork sammich- pulled pork was tender and moist, their bbq sauce is more on the sweet side, which I enjoy. Some of my friends had the jalapeno bbq sauce, some said too spicy, some loved it. Guess it all depends on your heat tolerance. Mine is a -1000. No spicy for me. My sides were double breaded fried okra and fries, both good also. Nothing amazing, but tasty nonetheless. I stole my friend's toast, that was delightful. A piece of bread soaked in real butter. Stopped here on a whim with some co-workers for lunch. I'm not a huge BBQ fan but all of my co-workers are and must I say, we enjoyed this place. We got here around 12 and it is cafe style-to where you grab your tray, utensils, etc. We, and by we I do mean me and my co-worker, got the monster baked potato. That thing was HUGE! Mike had something wrong with his throat and wasn't able to talk (he was still working like a champ) and with it being my first time there I was clueless. He eventually had to tell me to scoop my own sides as it was self serve. Oops. I had a 2 meat with Brisket and Pork. Both were pretty good.. As always, time and air is briskets worst enemy. Dallas is a city with plenty of good restaurants. But what Dallas lacks are two things: Good Italian and Really Good BBQ. Anderson's BBQ was okay. Nothing terribly impressive to write home about. Most of the BBQ places in Dallas are chains, so it was refreshing to find one with a little more character and charm. Anderson's sells over 100,000 lbs of brisket a year and boast many other fun facts on one of its walls. (I'll add the photo later). I consumed the 2 meat plate -- beef brisket and pulled pork. The beef was lean, but a little dry. The pulled pork was decent, but I'm used to something that has been smoked for a long, long time. The sides? Fried okra -- cold and too crispy. They gave us free cake. They don't get 5 stars because we got free stuff. It's not about free stuff at all. It's about WHY we got free cake. We got free cake because they knew the cake wouldn't be as good the next day, so it was either give it away or throw it away. That's a commitment to quality. Mike Anderson's BBQ is definitely in the upper eschalon of Dallas BBQ joints. The meats are smokey perfection. The brisket was awesome! Tender and juicy and probably my favorite meat here even though I'm usually more of a pork guy. The pulled pork and polish sausage were also excellent. However, the ribs were disappointing - dry and a little tougher than expected. I won't order those again. The BBQ sauces (regular and jalapeno) compliment the smokey meat well and are neither too sweet nor too vinegary. There are a myriad of sides to choose from. I haven't tried them all, but so far the cheesy corn bake with poblano peppers and BBQ beans w/ sausage are my favorites. I didn't particularly care for the mustard tator salad since the potatoes are mashed in with the mayo and mustard leaving the diced onion and pickles as the only textural contrast. As for dessert, there is complimentary soft serve cones and the Bourbon pecan pie is top notch. Pros: Healthy portions! The $13 dinner plate lasted two lunches for me. Cons: Only open for lunch and there's always line to the door. Parking is difficult when it's busy. Dining area isn't very large. A recent visit to Mike Anderson's disappointed. Brisket was so bland and smokeless, we had to wonder if we were in the right place. I asked for fatty cut brisket, but the meat I received was dry and needed a knife to cut through. The beef sausage also seemed dry and lacking smokiness. On the service front, I asked for their smoked stuffed quail, but for some reason my request was ignored. Still the monster potatoes, the stuffed jalapenos, the jalapeno bbq sauce and the desserts are recommendable. However, I'm hoping that fame (and Groupon) hasn't affected the long-term quality of food at Mike Anderson's. Here's hoping to "much" better future visits. read more

This BBQ is AMAZING! The line gets long starting around noon, so try to get there early if you're in a hurry. The main guy who slices your meat (is that Mike?) is very friendly, greeting you with a smile and a kind word as he prepares your plate. The sides are self-serve, which threw me off the first time I went, but has now come to be familiar. The food is FANTASTIC! I lived in Houston for the past 8 years and was never fully impressed with the BBQ offerings of the Inner Loop there. This place helps make up for the past 8 years! Arriving at lunch on a weekday a line out the door leads most to believe this is some of the best BBQ in Texas. When my sister (who works at a nearby medical center) and I arrived at 11:30 there was 25 people in front of us. The line was so long we almost walked across the street to eat. However, we stuck it out and left unimpressed. The cafeteria style is kind of fun, but the food remains average. The BBQ is ok and you aren't going to be extremely disappointed. On the other hand, I can't see anyone from out of the area making the drive just to eat here. We can only comment on three meats, the turkey, brisket and pulled pork, all of which were dry and didn't pack the flavor I'd expect in Texas. Meanwhile, the turkey was the best in the bunch and the only thing I had more than a few bites of. On a positive, if you order the platter, which can consist of three meats, you'll have enough food for you and you're horse. They are generous with portions. You won't leave hungry. In fact, when we left and surveyed other tables it reminded me of a Golden Corral (I've only been there once, and refuse to return), where everyone leaves large portions of food on their plates. There's value here. As for the side, there's plenty to choose from and they aren't bad. Most seem to grab the cobblers and pies, etc. I opted for the salad, which was actually the highlight on my meal. Crispy, cool, fresh lettuce and solid dressing. This place is awesome. I went with a group of friends and we all ate family style, sharing each others food. Some highlights: - The Jalapeno-cheese sausage was delicious. For my third trip in Dallas, I wanted to try another bbq place. Thanks to Yelp, I was able to find this place. It was hard to determine the 3 meats selection and 2 sides, so I also checked Yelp for the reviews. Got the brisket, jalapeno links and ribs. I like the links the most, then the ribs then the brisket. The jalapeno bbq sauce was really spicy for me. The cron bread was really cheesy but I couldn't finish it after order 3 meats! The beans with sausage was also really good, too sweet for me. The ends of the links are put inh here so it's the same taste as the beef or pork link. Sonny Bryan's has been our go-to BBQ place for several years, but we tried Mike's the other day and we may have to rethink our position. It was a Saturday but the place was almost full at noon. We got pulled pork which was good but I like Sonny's better because of a deeper flavor. Mike's was kind of bland, but it was moist. We also got brisket and it was the best I have ever had, period. Ever. It had a deep smoke flavor, the meat was moist and tender, it was just perfect. I felt as if I had gone to BBQ heaven. There are no words to describe how good it is. The sides are well above average. We loved the BBQ beans with sausage. The cheesy corn bake with pablano is also excellent. Less a favorite was the dill tater salad which had no discernible dill and way too much mayo for my taste. The garlic cole slaw is also excellent. Unfortunately, they were out of black eyed pea salad or we would have tried that too. All in all, this may be our new fave for BBQ. We definitely will be back.
