A dozen gulf coast oysters, nothing fancy but pretty good.
    Andy P.

We've been to Rumors many times over the years since we moved to Kentucky some 15 years ago but we haven't been here in probably 6 years. It's always a good choice if you want fried seafood and cheaper shell fish. It hasn't changed one iota since our first visit in 2010. My daughter and I were doing some Christmas shopping in Louisville and we'd have much rather preferred getting oysters and the seafood tower at The Capital Grille by the Oxmoor but we were kinda "steaked" out. It's always been busy and popular but when we got there it was practically empty, by the time we left it had filled to capacity. Lots of oak tables and the decor is typical seafood restaurant on the gulf shore. It's has a weathered look but I think that's the point, it doesn't distract. The staff has always been friendly and since we beat the crowd, service was quick. We started off with a dozen oysters (I'm guessing from the gulf) which is half the price of oysters at all the raw bars at premium steakhouses. Yeah they're not Chesapeakes, Kumamotos, or blue points but my palates not so refined so I can't tell the difference from the eastern gulf oysters. We also got the smoked tuna dip, which has always been popular with my kids. I secretly think it's just Krogers flavored tuna with a few dashes of liquid smoke but it's still very good. We were there mainly for the oysters and the tuna dip so we just got sandwiches, the grouper sandwich and the oyster po boy. They are fine, what you'd expect to get in Kentucky, but nothing like you could get on the coast, they are neither as big nor as fresh. If you want a bit of the gulf coast and some reasonably priced shellfish or a seafood boil Rumor's on Shelbyville is a decent choice.

Tiny wings. SMALL sauce cup for reference.

Used to be the best place to go for wings - now they are absolutely pathetic. If you're going to charge 1.70/wing they should be bigger than a pinky finger - unreal.

I have lived in the Middletown area for eight years, and when people find out, they always ask, "Have you tried Rumors restaurant?" The answer has always been no, until now. We met some friends for dinner, one of whom was at Rumors on their opening day in 1985. He is a big fan of the restaurant and loves the beach theme. It definitely has that feel, with decor and the staff knowing the regulars. We both ordered salads, but our friends ordered seafood and pasta. Our food tasted great, and theirs looked delicious! It may have taken us eight years to try it, but it won't take us that long to go back.

We visited here on a Sunday afternoon around 1. It was pretty crowded and had the games on. We waited a good 5-10 minutes before our waitress came around. She was nice it was not an issue. We ordered our food and drinks. I got a club sandwich and wife got chicken and rice. My daughters got chicken pasta and a kids chicken meal. It was all about 3 stars we came to the conclusion on the food. It looked better than it taasted but it was still pretty good overall. I would come back and try their chicken wings that they are known for. I would have given it a 4 but the taste for the price was just not there. I will try them again for the wings next time.

Rumors is a longstanding local restaurant in Middletown and after a hiatus I suggested a visit for dinner with my family. Be forewarned that the crowd and parking lot stay busy, but add your name to the waiting list. It moves fast and they have a lot of tables. The servers and hostess were welcoming and so nice, recommending entrees as asked. You could tell they are used to managing the crowds of locals. We got a cold beer and onion rings - yum! For my dinner I chose the fried fish platter with coleslaw. Overall I enjoyed my meal; the coleslaw is peppery so I might try another side during the next visit. Other meals at the table included the burger (huge!) and the po boy sandwich. We didn't leave anything uneaten!

So I've visited this restaurant once and decided to come back again. I came back because the food was so good! I'm only in town for work! In addition to the good food, atmosphere and service...I look up and there is this short, blonde woman with a smile. I ask the bartender, Venus, who she is and she says that's the owner, Cheri! Cheri comes to meet me and she is the most genuine, polite, yet professional being. When you see an owner working as hard as his/her employees, you know you have discovered one of the good ones. I'm here on business...if you are as well...get to Rumor's!! Say hello to Venus, the bartender, and Cheri, the owner, for me! ENJOY! AND WHO DOESN'T TO SUPPORT A MOM N POP SHOP!?? I love the oysters on the half shell and the crab legs! Oh and get Venus to make you a lemon-drop shot!

We love Rumors! I am 41 years old and have been going to Rumors for 42 years. Ha! So I will admit the memories do contribute to the ambiance for me, but for those that are looking for a new spot or haven't been in a while, it is clean, festive, lively - in a good way, not an overly rowdy way - and all around good natured fun. The food is great, I usually stick with chicken - the Diablo Chicken Linguine is great as is the Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo. The Wikiwaki Teriyaki is also great. ALL of the sandwiches are great. I myself don't eat seafood but my husband has enjoyed all of the entrees he has gotten as well. And the service is wonderful. Laid back yet extremely efficient, cheerful attitude for all who are working there. I love looking at the old photographs on the wall! I highly recommend Rumors for a casual lunch spot.

Rumors food is still tasty, but not so much the atmosphere. Place in falling into disrepair: stained sagging ceiling tiles, filthy restrooms. Staff seems to be turning over a lot lately, which has increased productivity. Rumors is a place we end up eating at , not a place we want to eat.

It was not the best food in the world but the food here tastes like home to me. Just really well seasoned and old school. Now here's my issue. This establishment had me wait almost 90 minutes on a 92 degree day (WITH MY FIVE YEAR OLD) for two meals. They had already taken my money, otherwise I would have booked it. Here's what I ate: 1. Fried Pork Chop with mashed potaotes (they were out of potato salad) and greens, gravy on the side 2. Ribs with macaroni and cheese and Pinto Beans I also got a blackberry cobbler. I checked in after 30 minutes and they weren't sympathetic. I looked at these reviews later and saw that someone said the customer service at this establishment was hilarious and they were not kidding. Here's how everything tasted: Pork Chop: very flavorful, glad I got fried and not smothered for texture reasons Mashed potatoes: good and real, but nothing to write home about Ribs: They were okay. tender. tasted like they were boiled and that's not my preference...they were also swimming in sauce. I feel like ribs should be able to stand up without the sauce and I was not sure this could happen here. The bbq sauce is part of the dish for them. Greens: overly salted, underseasoned...they needed to be eaten by the pinto beans Pinto beans: absolutely no salt--would not order again Macaroni and cheese: this is the creamy kind, not the baked kind (not my preference. Gravy: excellent Blackberry Cobbler: FIVE STARS. Delicious, buttery, so tasty. I went home and tried to make one. Seriously: no notes here. It is a must try. Charging 2 dollars for a cup of kool-aid is insane. with this kind of customer services, it would be nice if they threw that sugar water in for free. I skipped it, but just thought I would mention if you plan on trying to have some for nostalgic reasons. I haven't had any in about 30 years and I was planning on it but not when I saw the price tag. I live in Illinois, but if I ever do visit again I will call my order in, go sight seeing and then pick up my food. Don't bring your kids to this establishment unless they have confirmed your order is ready!

The dining area is small and no frills, so I'd probably use the drive-thru or take it to-go next time. We ordered the 4 whole spicy wings meal with two sides. I was surprised they include the entire wing, including the tip. Each wing comes with the drum, flat, and tip. The wing tip is actually my favorite part, and it's rare to find restaurants that leave it on. The chicken was incredibly crispy without being greasy, and the spicy seasoning had just the right amount of heat. I want that recipe! For our sides, we doubled up on the potato wedges, and they absolutely lived up to the hype. They seem like they're coated in the same seasoned batter as the chicken, giving them an extra crispy crunch on the outside. Pro tip: Order the purple drink! It has a grape flavor with a fruity twist, and it pairs perfectly with the spicy chicken. Overall, Chicken King is worth a stop if you're in Louisville. Between the huge portions and affordable prices, it's easy to see why it's been a longtime favorite among locals.

Crunchy breading, juicy and tender inside. They were not spicey or dripping in any sauce, just regular breaded and I thought "I am going to have to go to this place soon" After doing some research I found that they have drive thru only for dinner hours. So I made my trip down Broadway to Chicken King and could not miss the big yellow sign nor the already 7 cars in the drive thru. Since this chicken has a otremendous fan base, I considered myself lucky to be #8 in line as others pulled behind me. The menu is packed full of items, so my first tip is to look up the menu online before you go...less pressure once you arrive...lol I ordered the 8 PC box (regular) for my husband, 3 PC tenders (that comes with 3 potato wedges) for myself and a medium peach cobbler to share. I was very disappointed that the tenders were not fresh nor freshly breaded. They were pressed and glued white meat formed into a tender. I actually only ate one, shared one with my dog and threw the last one away. The potato wedges were the star. I should have ordered more of those. My husband, who LOVES fried chicken was not impressed. He said KFC and Golden Corral has better. The peach cobbler was average. So, I am sorry to summarize our experience as not having a reason to return.

My favorite was the espresso martini. We also opted for the Doritos nachos which were pretty filling for an appetizer! It has a cozy, charming atmosphere that's perfect for catching up with friends. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. It took a long time for us to be greeted, even though the restaurant wasn't busy. It was just my friend and me along with a larger group of about 10 people. One thing that made it confusing was that the employees didn't seem to have consistent uniforms, so it was difficult to tell who actually worked there. Our server was friendly, but he kept forgetting items we requested and took a long time to return to our table. I used to be a server myself, so I understand that things happen and I try to give people grace. However, the pace of service felt excessive considering how few tables were occupied. The food was okay overall, but I actually thought my meal tasted better after reheating the leftovers at home. My friend also noticed that part of her chicken looked undercooked, which was concerning. We didn't feel confident about that portion of the meal. The biggest downside for me was the pricing. For the portion sizes, food quality, and overall experience, it felt overpriced. I can definitely see why people like the atmosphere because it's a cute spot, but between the slow service, the concerns with the food, and the prices, my visit didn't live up to my expectations. I'm hoping this was just an off day because the restaurant has a lot of potential.

We had a choice between sitting inside or being seated at a picnic table on the covered deck. We were assigned a high-top table in the dining area past the bar, where a few guys were watching a soccer match. The brine-soaked fried chicken is Eagle's specialty, so we ordered it. I thought the chicken was good,. So per the menu for the three-piece fried chicken meal, you can only order either all white meat or all dark meat. Interestingly, the two people at our table that ordered white meat still got a drumstick with their meat. The last I checked, drumsticks were considered dark meat. For an appetizer, we ordered the hush puppies. They had a nice crunchy texture but were very spicy hot. We also ordered the spoonbread. This was my favorite dish of the day. It was served warm, had a great texture and a light maple flavor. With our meals, we could get two sides. We requested the collard greens, green beans, fries, grits and mac & cheese. Only the mac & cheese was good. The collard greens were way salty and the green beans had odd and unexpected seasonings. Our dining companion was put out, and understandably so, that the menu said the grits came with white cheddar cheese. But instead, though the grits maybe had cheese, they were also loaded with loads of diced jalapeno. They were so over the top spicy, none of us could eat the grits. The fries were strongly seasoned with oregano. WTF? Our entrees came with biscuits. The biscuits were tasty, but unfortunately, because they contained too much shortening, fell apart when buttering them. And that leads up to the service lapse. After we received our check, our server completely disappeared. We waited a half hour for her to re-appear, gave up and asked another server to cash us out. He disappeared and we waited some more. Finally the red-headed server re-appeared and breezily explained she had been out on the deck the whole time. No apology or anything.
