I went here pre-gaming before a Pirates game (convenient location right across the street from PNC Park). Food is not available, but you are welcome to bring in anything from other places. Always have been to the Vernon Hills location, but was visiting a friend and thought I would check this one out. Across from the Stadium was cool and the vibe inside was as cool as the chi town one. Great job..I would recommend it for sure. read more

I have been to the Beer Market on several occasions, and never had a bad experience. The staff has been great and the beer selection has been really fantastic. The decorum, atmosphere and live music makes this one of my favorite places. I have read some other reviewer's comments and most have been positive so I would say that it cannot be just me - many others seem to like the place. For the most part, it appears people are happy with the beer selection, the location and the overall experience there. I have read a few negative comments posted here - beer not on stock, slow service, etc. - honestly, I cannot say that I agree with them, as I have not had these problems. However, all good bars get busy and service gets slow at times, or on occasion beer of one type runs out - I have seen this elsewhere at other bars, too. It is not a "Beer Market" thing, it is like that everywhere. As far as I am concerned, I have had good experiences there and I like the place a lot. I had to warm up to the idea of ordering another restaurant's food to bring in to eat - that is something I admittedly had to adjust too. However now it kind of adds to the whole experience. I would say that if you are in town, Pirates game day or not, you should definitely check out the Beer Market. It is one of our new local businesses and I think that you will find it to be great. read more

You can't buy liquor, you can't buy food but you can certainly buy BEER! This place has the best selection. Every time I've been here I've had something different. The atmosphere is great! Thus is a great place to have a happy hour and order some pizza delivery. Awesome place to hang before a Pirates or Steelers game. I love this place. read more

Extremely crowded before the Pirates game. While standing at the bar, had to ask another patron for the beer list and then have a waitress get our drinks because the bartenders never waited on us. We felt it didn't live up to the reputation we had heard but will try again another time. May have just been a bad day! read more

Very cool location, directly across the street from PNC Park. Very expansive menu of beers. Nice atmosphere and friendly service. There is no food served here. The only thing I would suggest is to have the bottled beers stored/served a little colder. read more

If I hadn't waited 15 minutes for a waiter to find out they didn't serve food, I would have skipped the review. In fairness, we popped in not knowing the deal. All i have to say is 50 on tap 550 bottles to choose from. only down fall is no kitchen but they do allow you to order in.

I was a little worried about going here before a Pirate game on a Friday night based on some of the reviews about slow service. As we expected, the place was packed, however we were able to get a table. There were several waitresses that came around frequently and we never had to wait very long for a drink. We even ordered take out from another nearby restaurant and had it delivered to us. If you are looking for craft beer, there isn't anywhere better in the city! If you say you love beer, then this is the place to go. 50 rotating drafts, +500 in bottles is pure heaven. Employees are well educated on the beer and will let you sample things on draft. Me and my boyfriend went on Saturday for lunch. Isabelle was our server and she was great. Attentive, knowledgeable, and fun. She even bought us a round of beer shots! Lots of beers on tap (most I've seen in Pittsburgh) and a ridiculous amount of bottle options to boot. The tap selection can be a little hit or miss, especially if you're looking for something extremely hoppy, but it also includes some options you won't see anywhere else. As a former coloradan, I was extremely pleased by their bottle selections. Do yourself a favor and order a great divide hoss! No food in house, but you can bring your own. One final note: this bar is definitely one of the best places to watch a pirates game, home or away. The crowd is engaged, rowdy, and you may even experience the entire place chanting "let's go bucs!". Awesome. read more

Would give it a five because the beer selection is great and it's a fun place, however, when in Pittsburgh you shouldn't have to request to turn one of the 20 tv's to a Pittsburgh Penguins game and have to find a manager to do so. Great location just get with the fans! read more

One word: Amazing!!! Finally got to stop in and check it out with the BF. There's over 550 fantastic craft and imported beers and no crap (ie: Bud, Miller, mass produced yellow water)!!! How great!!! We were blown away by our experience from beginning to end not just by the selection, but by the super friendly and extremely knowledgable service from our bartender, Ruthann! Eventhough it was very busy and so was she, she still saw us walk in the door and greeted us with a welcoming smile and invited us to have a seat! (impressive!) She took the time to open a menu and make it user friendly. Even after looking through it for a couple minutes, it was a little overwhelming to decide on what to get from the 30 pages! We happily let Ruthann select our first beers. The BF had a Unita Dubhie and I a Thirsty Dog Old Leg Humper. We loved them! She was so spot on and even told us about the Breweries and other things to check out, that we let her keep selecting our beers! Oh, did I mention that there was a game across the street and they were packed while we were getting this great customer service?! We really hope The Beer Market succeeds! Some of the posts on here are ridiculous and are probably the work of a neighboring business, an unfortunate drawback of yelp and other similar message boards. I've been here several times and the experience is like no other - a ridiculously large selection of beers that anyone who loves beer would "jones" over, and one of the coolest environments in Pittsburgh. Its across from PNC Park, down the street from Steelers stadium, right in the heart of the North Shore. It gets so crazy before games so it's a little unreasonable to expect immediate service. The place fills up within minutes and there are 10 or 15 servers running around to handle the rush. The first time I was there it was a little hectic but it looks like they have their system figured out now because service was seamless and the place was completely packed! I also like the acoustic acts that I've seen. They seem to get better as the season progresses. If you like good beer and an extremely cool place to try them, with an upbeat vibe, you'd like this place. read more

I just visited this place this past weekend for the first time and I was quite pleased with my experience. The B.Y.O.F concept was alittle hard to understand until we got there. The server provided us with a "menu of menus" that had multiple local restaurant's food menus for us to refer to and order from. Basically its just like ordering take out to your home but you get it delivered to your seat! Our server also suggested that we bring a sandwich ring or picnic with us the next time which I Loved the idea of. Im not a well versed beer drinker and stick to a pretty standard line up so I was bummed when I heard that they were sold out a one of my favorite beers that night but my server was able to quickly suggest a few other options that were similar to the beer I was looking for and brought over samples for me to try. I ended up ordering a hofbrau original lager which came in an awesome mug! The live music was a really nice touch as well. I believe the band playing that night was call Act of Pardon and by the end of the night I was out of my seat and dancing around in front of the stage. There are many amazing qualities of this bar that deserve recognition. First off...all that beer! There is literally something for everyone there. From pale ale buckets to dark imperial stouts, to unique trappist originals and crisp apple ciders. Don't know what you want? There's a flight of samples to solve that problem. There really is NO bar in Pittsburgh that comes close to The Beer Market's selection. Second...BYOF?! My husband and I called in during dinner rush at our favorite Thai place in Pgh, Nicky's, picked up our food within minutes, headed across the bridge and instantly had our favorite dinner with our favorite -hard to find anywhere else- beer. The next great quality of this bar is the service. The bartenders let us know that they have to go to Beer University before starting to work there, so they have knowledge of the product they're selling. They asked us what style of beer we like, and provided multiple samples from different breweries from all over the map. You're not going to get service like that probably anywhere else downtown. The Beer Market has become our go-to spot before a Pirates game, and it's now our first pick for a night out anytime. read more
