Not a fan of Mike the Poolman's work, nor ethics. Asked him to come over for an estimate on repairing solar panels. After looking over for 5 minutes, he mentioned he couldn't do the work because the roof was too steep. That's fine, except then he asked me for $70 for the "estimate", even though he never mentioned was a charge for doing the estimate. Paid him his $70 to never have to seem him again...probably worth it. Could not be more disappointed in a service company. read more

Mike returned my inquiry immediately and set up an appointment to see me the next afternoon. He was very professional and I with in the first few minutes of talking with him about our issue I felt confident that I was working with the right person. He was very honest, up front about the cost of the repair, explained the scope of the work, and completed everything sooner than expected. We had a rust spot on the bottom of our pool, which was caused by rebar coming out from underneath. We had a similar spot before that someone else had already patched up, but it did not take. While we just had the work done, we have full confidence that this time the fix will actually hold. We are a new customer of Mike the Poolman. He was recommended by the previous company that provided our weekly pool service. We had a bottom drain cover that had a cracked off piece that concerned us from a safety perspective with 2 small kids. I contacted Mike and he was very responsive in getting back to me almost immediately with some questions to help him ID the type of drain cover we had. He explained the available options, and was at our house within 2 days and had all three if our drain covers replaced with new VGB compliant covers. I contacted Mike via the internet, he called me back in about 20 minutes. I told him I was having some minor issues with my pool pump drain and a few loose tiles. Instead of offering to come out and fix the pump and the tiles, he told me it was easy enough to do by myself. He explained how to do it over the phone, and said to call him back if I had any problems. The problems are now fixed, and I found a pool service professional that I know I can trust. We had hired Mike Stinson to perform a simple task of piecing in PVC pipe to our pool's filtering system which leaked terribly. I ended up repairing the leaks myself. Mike was very insultive to my family and was more interested in upselling our equipment then to perform the task at hand. When attempting to collect the money for his services he insulted my wife and myself for no reason. Not only do I not recommend this company but I strongly suggest that if you have ever had work performed in the past by them you should have a professional inspect his work. read more

I was having problems figuring out how to program my newPenatair Variable Speed Pump for my pool and using my Jandy . I live in So. Ca &emailed him out of the blue. He emailed me back with his number and told me to call him. Mike spent over 1 hr on the phone with me and told me how to program my Jandy Aqualinks RS.He happened to just come back from vacation, had a downtime,be at home Depot goofing off and was so helpful. I had spent hours and hours with Pentair, Jandy, &Leslie's pool supply trying to figure how to program it with my solar heat panels. I even offered to send him some money for his advise &he refused.If only I lived in southern Ca, I would love him to service my pool.Use this guy, he's was so nice&helpful. He even told me I could call him when I installed my Flow meter and solar temp monitor. Can't say enough good things about this guy. read more

I highly recommend Mike the poolman. He repaired an underwater light in my pool a few years ago and the light is still working fine. He also gave me some free pointers on fixing my pump that recently started leaking terribly to the point that the pump lost it's prime and was running dry for awhile. Turned out to be a shaft seal that I was able to replace myself after some serious effort and good advice from Mike. read more

I started service with Mike the Poolman 3 years ago when I purchased my house not knowing anything about pool maintenance and servicing. Mike installed new equipment at my request and has serviced the pool in an outstanding manner the past 3 yrs. The few times where there was a minor issue with the equipment Mike responded quickly and resolved the issue at no charge. Most importantly he told me 3 yrars ago I would have a drainage issue onto my pool deck and into the pool from my flower beds and recommended I come up with a drainage solution so during a wet year like we are experiencing this winter I wouldn't have a problem. Boy am I glad he gave me that advice as I would have had a complete mess this year had I not installed mitigation measures in the flower beds.
