I came here for a business lunch with some new clients. We booked a private room and they were super accommodating. The spot was perfect to discuss business while eating an amazing meal. After the meeting I told my wife about the restaurant and how great the food and service was. Her birthday was the week after, so we ended up going to back to Mike's Bistro. Mike's Bistro is consistently the best! We used Mike as a caterer for our wedding after going to the restaurant 10+ times and having amazing food. Our guests were raving about every item that came out from appetizers, to a chilled soup, to the main course, and then desserts. The next morning I got a text from a guest that said her short rib was top 5 of her life (and she doesn't keep kosher!). The quality of food was amazing (and hot!) even with over 200 guests. Great meal here last night. We had our work holiday dinner here and I was impressed! The beef bolognese was very good. The small portion was perfect because the dish was rich with flavor. Also had the French onion soup which was very good. I was wondering why there was no cheesy gruyere and then I realized It included bone marrow! Mike's Bistro is the best kosher steakhouse in the city! If you go there, you must try the duck gnocchi appetizer. Whenever we go there, we order the duck gnocchi and the waiter says, "Ah, you've been here before." All of the entrees are excellent as well, you really can't go wrong with steak. Like all kosher places, it is way overpriced, but that's the price you pay to get into heaven, amirite? There is a good variety of steaks, from the Ribeye (a favorite) to the Prime Rib, to the occasional steak special. The duck is also excellent, and would certainly recommend it! The atmosphere is pretty nice, if loud, but kosher and non-kosher diners alike can appreciate the food. A good restaurant to go to for celebrating a special occasion. read more

I went to Mike's Bistro with two colleagues for a late lunch. Aside from one other table, the restaurant was completely empty. First, the lunch was a $75pp fixed price - ok fine. Two of us ordered lunch and one person (who had already ate) wanted to order just an iced tea. To order just an iced tea, the waiter informed us, he would need to charge us for the price of another full meal - $75 dollars! We were informed by the waiter that "just like you are in business, we are in business" and that "we need to make money from every seat". The folly of this is that there was only one other table occupied in the whole place. Ironically, though the waiter finally agreed to charge us for the iced tea ($6), he actually forgot to bring the beverage ordered by the person who actually ordered the full meal. There are better places, don't waste your time. read more

Mike's Bistro is an experience. Favorite dishes include the French onion soup, gnocchi, short ribs, beef tartare and yam fritters. The service is exceptional and the ambiance is perfect for anything from business lunches to social occasions. The restaurant is amazing and it just happens to be kosher (Mike has put a definitive end to the idea that kosher restaurants can't compete with their non-kosher counterparts). Mike catered our wedding and he executed flawlessly. He reset the standard for kosher weddings - most of our guests were either not Jewish or not kosher-observant, and they are still talking about how they enjoyed one of the best meals of their lives at our wedding. Went last week for a nice night out, and once again Mike's did not disappoint. The food and drinks were delicious (as usual) and the service was top notch, as it consistently is at Mike's. The wait staff here is a few notches above what one normally sees in a kosher restaurant - the waiters are professional, well trained, know everything about the different dishes and drinks, and make the experience well worth it. One of the best dinners I've had in a while! Came here for a group dinner and it did not disappoint Started off with the homemade gnocchi. It was incredible. The flavor was delicious and the small pieces of duck mixed in was great. I looked around at other appetizers at the table and although they looked good, this seemed to be the winner. For dinner I got the short rib. I'm a fan of short rib and usually get it if it's on the menu. This was the best one I've ever had. The meat literally falls off and the smokey sauce they put on top is great. For dessert we had the pecan pie. Also outstanding. Great end to an all around awesome dining experience. If I had to chose one meal for the rest of my life it would be the Côte De Beouf steak at Mike's. It's hard to find a good kosher steak anywhere. I ate here last night as I was practically forced. I didn't mind, I'm always open to trying new things but this was a fail. We were seated as soon as we walked in and I have to say the service was superb. Someone changed our settings between each meal. We received each and every request of ours on time and there was someone always readily available. Service...five stars. The food....not so much. I was extremely disappointed. We received a great roll of bread after we ordered and it was fresh. I loved it and the olive oil had fantastic body. There was sea salt on the table and a fresh pepper shaker. I loved this. Lesson should be learned by all steak houses..period. For starters we had tuna with nachos and guac. This was probably the best thing I ate and it was only par at best. The tuna was fresh and the flavors were right. It was simply a bit too salty. Note: all the dishes in this restaurant are EXTRA salty. I didn't like that. For appetizers we orders three. The gnocchi, dumplings, and sweetbreads. I had high expectations because they sounded good on the menu and the waiter said they were the best appetizers. If these were the best, I can't imagine what the rest is like. The dumplings had a fantastic peach sauce and they were cooked perfectly. However, the dish was over powered by a lamb taste from the meat. Perhaps if you like lamb this is right for you but I like the taste of lamb a bit more subtle. The gnocchi was tasty, it simply was over salted, over cooked, and had a burnt meat flavor. If the dish had less gnocchi and a bit large pieces of the short ribs as opposed to thin scraps of meat I think this dish would taste much better. Lastly, the sweetbread. Very weird. I thought it was probably the best of the appetizers. The dish seemed original and had great taste. If you're not accustomed to this type of meat though, you may find the texture to be odd. For entree I shared a rib eye which was tasty for the first minute while it was hot. After that it tasted like chewing a tire. It was served aside this terrible excuse of sautéed kale. I'm so sorry but the flavors were awful. It's very unfortunate because the steak was served atop a wine reduction which was probably the best steak sauce I've ever had.it was great but the meat was chewy and simply didn't taste as you'd expect a steak to taste from such a restaurant. Our bill was $160 without tip. We left a nice tip because the service really was impeccable. However, $100 per person is an expensive meal and you'd expect to leave a restaurant satisfied. Unfortunately such was not the case. The potential here is great. There are many things that work in this menu and are truly worth trying. As a whole though, there are too many things which weren't good. I'll probably revisit in a year and give them another chance. Ps- their French friend are really good!!! read more

I came here for a business lunch and I had high hopes based on the reviews. I really liked the chef led idea of the four course lunch, but most of the food fell really flat for me. Overall, the positives were the bread and the sweet potato fritters. Bread was delicious and I really liked the fritters. Dessert, a linzer torte, was very good as well, although the whipped topping accompanying it had a very bitter aftertaste. First course: a nice enough beet salad, just wish it had more pecans, which went well the the beets. The beets were well done and I'm not a big fan of beets. Second course: A corn soup, which was more like a bisque. Very sweet and tasty, the fresh corn flavor came through, but not a fan of the raw onions dispersed through out the soup. But overall good. Entree: Things went left here. I ordered the snapper, which was beyond overdone. It was dry as a bone, overcooked and fishy. My colleague noticed this right away and in fact offered me some of her steak. She also asked if my fish was dry without my prompting, as it was apparent at first sight how overdone and dry it was. I couldn't finish it. The side dishes it came with were "meh". I can't say I recommend this for a $75 business lunch, certainly not when the main course missed the mark...by a lot. read more

I really wanted to love this place. While the ambiance is gorgeous, the food was tremendously underwhelming. I ordered a $50+ steak, which was TINY, and not that tasty, as well as a blueberry crisp, which was served in a shot-glass sized portion, with a paucity of blueberry, for $11. The waiter also seemed to forget about us and it took nearly 45 minutes after we finished our paltry meal to get the cheque. After paying a boat load and leaving hungry, we satiated ourselves with some chunky burgers nearby. read more

To the point where I attempted to use the bathroom and the CHEF was standing outside of the door asking if I "had dinner" at the restaurant, when I replied he stated "I don't think so" ???? Save your money and don't frequent a restaurant that racially profiles their customers. FYI: we were also told we couldn't stand in front of the building. We celebrated my niece's 21st birthday last night. Every item that we ordered - soup, salad, appetizers and main entrees and deserts were cooked and prepared perfectly. The ribeye was very tender accompanied with cubes of kugel soaked in the meat sauce. The other dishes that we ate - the soups, mushroom salad, gnocchi and duck confit were equally delicious. And the wait staff, especially Juan, were fantastic. They were very attentive, helpful but not overbearing. Highly recommend Mike's Bistro, especially if you want to splurge on a celebration. I came here this week with my husband for his birthday. Needless to say the food was amazing. We got the duck gnocchi after hearing rave reviews, a steak, and the short ribs. The meat was seriously some of the best I've ever had, so tender and flavorful. However, I was a little disappointed with the service, but maybe that's because I read so many reviews about how incredible it is. We asked for more bread and never received any even though the waiter said he'd bring it right away. Also, I made sure to note in the reservation that it was my husband's birthday and it was a special celebration for us because we just got married under 3 months ago. No one acknowledged it at all. Neither of these are huge deals, but for the price I guess I expected more attention! We went to Reserve Cut last year and the waiters brought out a plate with 2 chocolates that said "happy birthday" and a candle, which was such a simple thing that really stood out in my mind, so I was hoping for something similar here to make the celebration special. Obviously neither of these things are horrible or deal breakers, but considering the enormous splurge this was for us, I sort of felt like we weren't acknowledged so much. read more

Three of us ate at Mikes for lunch today which is a $75 pre fix menu. It is basically the same food but switching out your protein of choice in the main course. I imagine this works really well with a business lunch meeting because you do not have to worry about eating preferences. Two of us got the tuna and it was really good. The other got the chicken which had good flavor. Beyond the protein everything was good but not spectacular - except the soup was spectacular! Service was good. I popped in for drinks and unfortunately, found the bartender engaged in conversation with another guest which was defamatory to a particular religion group. As a joke, I said that I belonged to that group and followed it up with a "just kidding" simply to alert her to the fact that people sitting at the bar may belong to a variety of religions / backgrounds. No one talked to me - not the bartender, not the manager, no one. Anyway - here is the breakdown of wines by the glass - 4 reds, 4 whites. Not a place to pop in for drinks. I enjoy trying new places. I had never been to Mike's before. I had always wanted to try this place, when they were further up town. My friend asked us to join them. We had made reservations via Opentable and were seated immediately. The waiter was both attentive and informative. There were many items on the menu that I wanted to try. I had the veal sweetbreads for app and beef short ribs as my main course. My wife had duck lollipops for her app and lamb chops as her main. Needless to say, I tried all 4. Flavors were amazing! I generally don't eat dessert, especially due my issue with lactose. Being a kosher restaurant that serves meat, the desserts are all dairy free. SERVICE: First time going. I promised my waiter I'd write a review so here it is. From reservation to paying the bill, their system works better than any restaurant I've ever been to. As I made the reservation, the hostess asked me if it was a special occasion. It was, (gf's bday) so we already chose a desert along with a message to be written out in chocolate on the plate 2 weeks before even stepping foot in the restaurant. The waiter we had was DONALD. Tall bald gentleman that catered to our every request without hesitation. He was absolutely amazing and I HIGHLY recommend asking for him to wait on your table. Our glasses were never more than half empty and we never ran out of bread. A dirty empty plate didn't sit on my table for more than a minute. Added bonus - EVERYONE KNOWS FLUENT ENGLISH!!!! Everyone I dealt with spoke perfect english which just made ordering and the whole experience better. There were tiny hiccups, but they were corrected immediately. We were having trouble deciding on two mains so one dish that arrived was the wrong one. They simply swapped it out immediately. No big deal. Also, we canceled one item but it accidentally made it on to the bill. Once I pointed it out, it was taken off immediately. FOOD: Duck Gnocchi - If God had a favorite pasta....THIS!!! Duck - ehh, not bad but nothing to drool over. Short Ribs - Would be my last meal request on death row. Apple Crisp - Very good. It was quite expensive. My bill came out to $171 for those 4 items. However, in a way it was worth it. I have never had a restaurant do everything so...right! I'm still dreaming about that Duck Gnocchi. Mike - if you're reading this...PLEASE MAKE IT A FULL SIZED MAIN DISH!!!!! Mike knows his stuff.
