Right off the bat- the food is solid, portions are massive, prices are amazing, and there are a bucketload of options on the menu. Our service was prompt, our table was clean, and it's pretty awesome looking inside! So, why three stars? Well, it's something of a greasy spoon spot, the menu is mostly in Vietnamese and can be a little hard to navigate (which is a sign of great food! But is a barrier to getting it). That huge menu is also a bit of a liability, because not all options are created equal. Some of it's amazing, some of it's just... food. So it takes a few trips around the different options to find a favorite :) And, the location. It's down on Asher, south of UALR, and it's a small strip parking lot off of a busy part of the street, making it hard to get in and out of if it's busy. That said, I would heartily recommend it to anyone looking for Pho, or any other real home-cooked Vietnamese or Thai food! It's also open fairly late, and the interior is both enormous and pretty cool, with big lodge-seating in the middle and booths on the edges, including raised window-side booths that are awesome on nice days. read more

the only place in Little Rock, Arkansas I go for authentic Pho (Vietnamese noodle soup). I usually get Rare beef and flank noodle soup. I love that the beef comes thinly sliced and uncooked, so that I can cook it in the hot broth to the ideal level. The beef broth is fresh and tasty. for vegetarians, they are able to make vegetarian broth! So everyone can enjoy ! read more

Bob and I had our almost weekly lunch at Mike's today. We told everyone that we are proud grandparents of our Son's first child Evelyn born this week. We had our usual wonderful meal of egg rolls and today topped it with the most delicate pork chop with rice washed three times before cooking, fresh cucumber, carrot, cabbage and parsnips. This is a wonderful lunch/dinner. So healthy. Almost every week, I want to go back to the kitchen and tell the cooking staff how much my husband and I appreciate the wonderful, healthy food they serve us each week. But they are so busy that we do not want to interrupt their day. Not only are they wonderful chefs, but when my Beagle dogs were still with me they would always offer to send home some bones that my dogs would chew on for days. I have spent time in Vietnam and this is as good as what I tasted there. I'm so happy to have this in LR! ETA: Vietnamese iced coffee is great and you can request it to be made more "bitter" or "sweet." The wait staff is very accommodating and want to make sure you enjoy what you get! I think about Mike's cafe everyday- and I'm not even exaggerating. It's the best food in all of Little Rock and if I could, I would marry Mike for his Pho and Egg Rolls. 10/10 would recommend. It also looks a tad sketchy on the outside/ the area that it's located in isn't super fancy, but the food will not disappoint. So i checked this place out being that I've only been in LRock for about a month. Probably not a great idea to eat pho on a day where the heat index is exceeding 100. However, I'm hot for pho! Their spring rolls were freshly made and the peanut sauce to complement the rolls were excellent. I also ordered the pho dac biet. Well, it was below mediocre. The broth did not have the pho aroma and it was so bland. I asked for fish sauce to add to the broth to salvage the taste. All efforts were futile. The greens used for garnish were fresh though. Perhaps it was my bowl only. However, I will not be too harsh since my pho expectations are extremely high. Being that this place is new and such, I will definitely try it again. The cute waitress was accommodating and she even asked my honest opinion of the food. I gave her my two cents and she took them with a smile. I like restaurants that truly value their customers' opinion. Their menu is extensive and I will be back to try the other dishes on the menu. The place look like it use to be a bar. There are pool tables for the customers to use I presume. They also have a bar you can eat at. I doubt they have liquor though. read more

When I visited Mike's, it's been open for about a month. Considering the fact that they could probably use more time to develop their restaurant, I decided to give it four stars. Straight up from the food quality/taste/authenticity standpoint, I would rate Mike's just three stars. I tried their pho, vermicelli noodles and an appetizer fried tofu and they were all average at best, except for the fried tofu (the tofu was pretty good). I give them four stars, however, because they have a HUGE menu and they do have most Vietnamese dishes you would expect from similar restaurants in larger US cities. For me, it was a blessing to find them because they're the only pho place in this area. Prior to Mike's, there was Van Lang on university. And no, you couldn't pay me to eat at Van Lang. Summarily, it's a place worth trying and if they pay more attention in developing their token dishes and make sure they taste GREAT every time, I can almost see them being very successful in the future. read more

Visited on Wednesday for the first time and LOVED it. The Banh Mi was excellent and a great price - I liked the jalapeño but ask them to leave them off if you don't want some heat. Sure the waitstaff is inattentive and clumsy at times, but they are a good bunch. Sure the sanitary conditions can be questionable at times, but they have done a lot of improvement. My go to for Mike's Cafe are the egg rolls, Sometimes I get two orders of them, and of course the bahn mi sandwich. Every once in a while I'll switch it up and get something different. This last time I ordered grilled chicken and rice that was also served with a baked egg. That had to be single-handedly one of the best ideas I had because it was awesome. I love this place! I would give it four a half stars if I could. I had no idea that I would be adventurous enough to try Vietnamese food, but my mom and I visited another Vietnamese restaurant, and it intrigued me enough to find the top rated one in my area. The outside of the restaurant almost scared me away, but the inside looked busy and the parking lot was fairly full at a typically non-busy time for restaurants in our area. The inside is eclectic, festive, but clean. There looks to be a karaoke set-up, but I didn't see any advertisement for it posted inside. I've been here twice now; surprisingly, the fried rice is my absolute favorite. I find that really shocking, because that's just kind of a normal dish that we've all probably eaten many times. It's a huge portion - enough for two or three meals if you take it home. The flavors are complimentary, and it tastes fresh. On a sidenote, this dish is fine for children and picky teens. I did add some hoisin sauce on top of my fried rice. My favorite meats in the fried rice are the steak and the shrimp. The chicken is fresh also and not horrible; however, I wish that it had more of a sear on it and a bit more flavor. I have also tried the combination lo mein. I personally do not like the taste of bok choy, but the ingredients are all fresh, and the flavors are also delicious. My mother ordered the combination Kung pao, and that is also tasty. The peanuts add some texture to the dish, and the mixture of ingredients in the Kung Pao sauce make it one of the best yet-tried sauces in this restaurant by my family. The shredded pork spring rolls were filled with freshly cut veggies and pleasant, yet it was hard to find the shredded pork. The fried pork spring rolls were much better with a delicious sweet red chili dipping sauce. We ordered one for each person, and they were gone in seconds. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant more than the two times that I've already gone in one week. I eagerly await the opportunity to try more dishes, and the prices make it light on the budget. The service is kind. However, the only reason that I had to take off one star is because both times that I patronized this restaurant with other guests the dishes for each member were all brought out at different times making it difficult to eat together. When my mother and I visited this restaurant, I had my food brought to me about six minutes before she did, so be prepared for this wait. read more

This is an little known gem in Little Rock. I have now been twice and loved both experiences. The Pho is phenomenal as well as the more Americanize staples like Chow Mein and Fried Rice. First let me start by saying the food was 5 stars but the Sunday customer service and wait was a 0! My daughter got the P2 (pho), my husband got the C8 (Steamed rice & pork) and I got the B1 (Beef & Shrimp vermicelli bowl), it was sooo good. There were 3 young ones working and they need to learn customer service (boy- Asian descent, girl 1-Asian descent, girl 2- Caucasian descent). After coming here.....it's really the best Vietnamese restaurant we have. For several reasons. One...the food is fresh and great quality. Two...and most importantly the service is outstanding. Mike's Café is the real deal. My brother got me going here when they first opened several years ago. When you first come here you may be overwhelmed by the selection of the menu, but if it's your first time just get an order of spring rolls and order of Pho then go from there on your return trip. Trust me, there will be return trips. Another great item is the House Special Orange Pork which is great, my buddy can not stray away from getting this every time we come. Oh wow, it is a hidden gem in Little Rock. I have been craving some Asian food after the move. While during the road trip heading to Texas that hubby and I were hungry and did not want to stuck in the traffic of the accidents on the freeway. So glad to find this place. My wife and I went out of our way while driving through Little Rock to try this place and we were so happy we did. We ordered a bunch of food cause we really were hungry but wanted to try several things. Here is a list of what we ordered and what we thought. VN Spring Rolls: the rolls are very big and good. The dipping sauce is not my favorite. It is a little thin and has a little too much fish sauce in it for my taste but I am guessing it is closer to traditional. BBQ Pork Bahn' Mi: the bread was nice and crusty. The Pork was sweet and tender and the pickled veg was good. The veg was a little different than I have had at other places. Not better or worse just different. This is definitely a WINNER! My wife had the Shrimp Chow Mein with soft noodles. She loves it. I tasted it and loved it too. The portion was huge. WINNER! I had the Lemongrass Beef: this was wonderful. The beef was very tender and tasty. WINNER! Talking to the waiter I told him I usually judge a VN place by their Pho' Broth. He was nice enough to bring me a small bowl of broth to try. I must say it was wonderful! I will absolutely be ordering Pho' on my next visit. If you get the chance, give this place a try.
