After doing a review, using Yelp, to find a mobile auto detailing service, we decided to go with Mike's Craftline Detailing. From my first contact with Mike, I was impressed with his customer service. I scheduled service for Saturday morning and prior to my service time, Mike called to let me know he was running a bit late. He arrived when he said and prior to beginning any work, walked around the car with me wanting to know about areas with which I had concerns. We did the same for the interior of the car. Mike then explained the exterior and interior service he would be doing, along with the types of products he would be using. He then went about this business. Now my car was already in good condition, but after Mike was finished, he had bumped it up several layers. The outside of the car was shown at another level and the interior was clean. My friend was with me when Mike returned my car to me, and seeing my car and Mike's explanations of the work, my friend immediately asked about detailing his car, as well as immediately recommended HIS FRIEND who just bought a used car to contact Mike. =Situation= We live in an old apartment building in Alameda, and we have our Acura RDX SUV parked indoors. There was a rusty pipe above us which apparently carried dirty water from the apartment sinks, and it leaked chunky residue on our car hood which left a nasty chemical stain (the kind where you see rainbow colors refracting). In addition, another section of the pipe left rusty deposit as leaks onto our car as well. =Inspection and Quotation= We found him on Yelp, and he was open and easily accessible amidst COVID so we gave him a call. He's fine communicating via phone or email, but I'd suggest phone/text as he is very responsive, and email may have issues like going into junk mail. He visited my apartment to look at my car and the pipe situation, and then diagnosed the stain-types and the suitable treatment for them in detail. It's obvious he understands all of these situations and solutions by heart. I also asked if he could include with the quote a description of the issue for the apartment management, so that they could take this cost out of our rent while they fix the pipe issue. Below was his description, on the quote he sent to us the same day. "Mr. Kanno's car is parked below a rusted pipe that has leaked on to the front end of his vehicle causing hard water deposits, rust residue, and calcium build-up which has etched into the clear coat. Whenever water is just left to dry it leaves minerals and corrosives behind. Slowly but surely this creates a little crater in the paint's clear coat. To safely remove the defects without causing more damage to the clearcoat caused by the unfiltered water left behind by the rusted pipe. The car's surface has to be washed and treated with a chemical and mechanical decontamination process. Iron X(chemical process) will be applied to remove iron particles followed by a clay bar (mechanical process) to removed bonded surface contaminants. Followed by a proper wash, a machine polish to refine the paint removing the remaining defects and protected with wax." The apartment mgmt immediately said they'll cover all detailing costs, and find a long-term solution to the pipe issue :) =Day of detailing= I took my car to Mike in the morning, and received it back early evening. The work actually took longer than the projected half-day due to a bit of complication, but the charge was the same and the result was fantastic (I did tip extra, it was well-deserved). All throughout the day, we communicated via text, and he was responsive throughout, including when he gave us a heads up that it might take a bit longer. =Closing= There's something nice and reassuring about having your car detailed by someone who's not just competent, but is downright passionate about their craft. Michael runs a special kind of business. Yes it's small -- it's literally just him -- but you can tell that he has a passion for what he does. I drove to his apartment and we spent almost an hour going through the various options, and he gave me demonstrations on my front fender of the three levels I could choose.
