I had the chicken salad with blue cheese. OH YUM! What totally made this sandwich was the way they grilled it. I don't know what kind of witchery those girls were doing behind that counter, but I have never had a better grilled sandwich EVER. The prices were typical Chelsea. For the cost, I wish the sandwiches came with some chips or something, but I did buy a bag on the side. There is really something for everyone there. I visited Mikes Deli today for lunch while doing some volunteer work at the 14A-3 district court downtown. It was a nice little deli with a lot of choices. It took a little longer than I expected but I think I just came at the wrong time as they were trying to complete multiple large orders. I ordered the "Mikes Rueban".The sandwich although was tasty lacked in size for me and for the price I would have expected to get a little more for my money. I would definitely come back to try something different but maybe for brunch instead of lunch just to avoid the lunch rush. read more

I love this place! Mike's has several different sandwiches to choose from, and they are all affordable and delicious. The staff are all kind, and make a great sandwich with great customer service. I took a drive from Brighton to Mike's Deli to share the experience with my significant other, I had the #20 Woolly Mammoth, and she had the Ruben and the bread was crisp but fluffy, meat was tender and toppings were top notch. As our food arrived I reflected on the fact that we drove for 30 minutes, right past Zingerman's in Ann Arbor, and couldn't have been happier with our sandwiches. I don't even live in MI anymore, but when I visit Detroit or Ann Arbor, I am more than willing to drive to Chelsea just to come here. The best reuben sandwich I've ever had...period. I've tried reubens all over Ann Arbor, Austin, Albuquerque, and other cities and this one really is the most flavorful. Chelsea is a small town that has quite a bit of crap-tourist food and over-priced bougie food...but this place is nice and low key and excellent quality for a reasonable price. read more

Meh. I drove 45 minutes to get a sandwich from this place after my friend told me Mike's had the best turkey sandwiches EVER. I guess maybe in retrospect I should have just gone with the turkey instead of straying into Reuben-land. I couldn't help it, though; Reubens are my passion. This is one of the best delis Ive ever been to except 1 in NYC I cant remember the name of (I wish I would have kept a journal in my highest travel days). (note: 2yo review) Food: they use Zingermans bread (very good) and have it fresh daily (not regular boring store bread). They use natural products like no antibiotic turkey. They have TONS of choices or make ur own. They give a lot of meat, not just tiny portions with loads of bread (like Potbelly). They could use more soup selections. They have many drink options, not just the std Diet Coke. Ambience: a small deli, so if u go in there at lunch time, there is prob going to be a line and not so many places left to eat. Good places are like that! So, that would be the only negative....the Service is a little slow when they hit a rush. read more

Called in my order for a Stingray for lunch. Over the phone, the woman I spoke with was cold, and almost sounded like I was annoying her by calling in my order. I arrived and they had my sandwich ready. I was asked if I wanted anything to go with my sandwich and let the woman know which chips I wanted, then went to grab a water out of the cooler. I don't know if the woman taking my money was the same one I spoke with on the phone, but she had the same coldness, and uninterested attitude. I took my meal home where I discovered that I never got my chips, even though I had been charged for them. I assumed that she had put them in the bag while I was grabbing my water. The chips are behind the counter, so there's no way I could have grabbed them myself. I'm not sure what she was thinking. I picked up the first half of my sandwich and noticed that it was a bit thinner than usual, but didn't really think too much of it. It tasted fine. I then noticed that the second half of my sandwich had about twice the amount of meat as the first half. I'm not sure how this happens, but it wasn't what I was looking for, or expected. Too bad this place is going downhill so quickly. Hopefully they turn things around soon. read more

The home of the $10+ sandwiches. What can I say, the food isn't bad but in the end it's just an over priced sandwich. Been there a few times. Service is hit or miss. I swear lightening might strike me but Mike's Deli is better than Zingermans. Don't get me wrong, I love Zingermans but for the ease, taste and price you can not go wrong at Mike's. My favorite sandwich is the Dutch Treat, roast beef, gouda and honey mustard on grilled challah. Be still my heart. I also love the Tuna but the Dutch Treat is my favorite right now. Absolutely wonderful deli. Highly recommended for anyone coming to Chelsea. I'm vegetarian and got the Presto Pesto and had it grilled. My family and I have been in Chelsea now for just 8 years and have made it a point to go to Mike's Deli to keep our money in town. We have enjoyed the atmosphere- seeing friends, meeting new people and seeing people in a relaxed deli having a good meal. I had found out that Mike's had been sold and I wanted to go and do a little investigation to see what, if anything, had changed. I had heard grumblings of smaller portions, no more Zingerman's bread, lesser quality meats, etc.. So, with as open a mind as I could muster I went to see if there was any merit to the negative publicity the new owners were suffering. In short, there was no perceptible difference I could see or, more to the point, taste. The sandwiches were still the same size, the bread was the EXACT same- I asked, and the deli meats behind the counter were still of the same producer as prior owners. I went there this evening and had a Mike's Original on Zingerman's sourdough and it was delicious. I also had their Hearty Tomato soup which was awesome. I can never eat an entire sandwich at one sitting and will enjoy the other half tomorrow in my lunch. So, to the new owners, keep up the great work and you WILL be seeing me again. read more

I've been back here many times since my first review, including yesterday when it was the lunch stop on a 30 mile bike ride. Kris and I come in quite a bit - always after a hike with the dogs. The sandwiches are consistently good, the service is awesome and you just can't beat local. I've branched out and tried a bunch of different sandwiches; haven't found one I don't like. I also love the fact that they have really naughty greasy sandwiches AND healthy lighter ones. One advantage of a stand alone, independent place is the lengths they will go to make your sandwich just as you want it! I liked the Nick's Nosh sandwich with coleslaw and cucumber and more. I wanted it warm - grilled - but didn't want limp cukes. They did it perfect and it was very good. I ate the whole thing! While the owners (and portions) have changed over the years, the delicious deli creations have remained relatively untouched. Just off I-94, Mike's Deli is a true culinary gem that is worth stopping for! There is a sandwich (or soup) for EVERYONE! I cannot get enough of the Bonnie's Blessing and Rubenesque sandwiches. Their grilled Challah (bread) is AMAZING. On a recent trip to the area, I ate at Mike's Deli 8 times in 10 days. YES, it is THAT good. I've lived in Chelsea my whole life, and Mike's Deli was always a tasty treat. I make it a point to go there from time to time. Last week, I ordered my favorite sandwich, turkey Reuben with smoked cheddar on sourdough. When ordering I learned they no longer carry smoked cheddar. SAD FACE. That cheese MAKES this sandwich!!! Also, once I got my sandwich, I noticed the coleslaw was different. Completely bland and it offered nothing to the sandwich. New Owners: Please don't change the ingredients!! read more

I haven't been to Mike's Deli since I moved away from the area.. I had the #74 Nick's Knosh which has coleslaw, Swiss cheese, tomato, onion, cucumber, ranch dressing on rye. I would recommend to get the ranch dressing on the side or get mustard instead because the ranch dressing makes the sandwich too drippy. It came grilled and it was huge! You do get your money's worth. The staff was friendly and I got my sandwich a good time frame. I really liked the fillings and next time I will try the pesto on it. I would recommend to the owners to get better menus printed though. They had things crossed out and it was hard to read. Make it look like your menu on your website. :) read more
