The potato salad just tasted weird; not sure what was wrong with it. And the BBQ sauce (which their website is mustard based) is yucky. They don't generally eat mustard-based BBQ sauce in TX, so that is definitely not a TX thing. They say their food is based on TX BBQ traditions. I don't think they know what really good TX BBQ tastes like. We used to have a fast food chain in TX called Bill Millers; their food was WAY superior to what I ate from this restaurant. Sorry, I hate to be mean, I usually leave good reviews. But this food left me no choice. Suggestion to the restaurant: You need to use more smoke-rendering wood (such as hickory or mesquite) in your fire/coals; you need to BBQ the meat a lot SLOWER and a lot LONGER. I do know what I'm talking about; I can make much better BBQ than what I ate from here. I guess I need to just make my own.

It was close to our hotel and had solid reviews, but unfortunately, our experience didn't live up to the hype. The Atmosphere: I'll start with the positives--the place has great vibes. There are sports TVs on multiple walls showing different games, making it a fun environment to hang out in. They also have a nice selection of tasty local beers. The Service: When we arrived, we were immediately told the kitchen was backed up and that we should probably find somewhere else to go. Because we were unfamiliar with the area and worried about long waits elsewhere, we decided to risk it and stay. Surprisingly, the food only took about 30 minutes, which wasn't bad given the warning. However, it took quite a while just to get our drinks. Later on, it also took a frustratingly long time just to get a side of mayo. The Food: This is where things really went downhill. When the food finally arrived, the fries were completely cold. The burgers looked okay at first glance, but both of our orders were completely wrong. To make matters worse, the burgers were cold too. Because we were exhausted and starving, we just ate what we were given without complaining, but it was incredibly disappointing. We mostly stopped here for the old firehouse atmosphere because we thought our kids would enjoy it, and they did, and enjoyed getting plastic fire hats to wear while eating. Our food was fine. My son got the mac & cheese off the kids menu which he did not enjoy and said it was gross. It looked to be fine and he's just picky, but he's not actually a picky eater so something was a little off with it. We got the beer bread for our youngest son to nibble on, but he wouldn't touch it and none of the rest of us ate it after having a bite because it was stale and tasteless. My husband got a reuben, which they advertise as one of their specialties and said it pretty tasted like a generic reuben. There was nothing special or particularly delicious about it. I got the western burger, which was good and I enjoyed the marmalade topping on it. I don't love battered fries, which is what they serve, but they weren't bad. Just not my preference. We also got a side of baked beans for kids, but they were very sweet and the beans were still pretty firm so they did not love them. It seems like the reviews are mixed, but if we were in the area again, we would probably not return.

We started the fancy fried pickles and chislic. The fried pickles were different with the prosciutto and mozzarella cheese, but we still enjoyed them. The chislic was tough/chewy and not as good as Thirsty's next door. My husband and I split the buffalo meatloaf. The meatloaf was dry, but I enjoyed the overall flavor. Overall, I was not impressed with this restaurant and was disappointed with service and how the meals were cooked at Murphy's. We just had better food during our trip, so it's hard to recommend this one.

After placing our order, it took 45 minutes to get our food, which seemed excessive for sandwiches, so it seems they're understaffed. Someone working at the connected bar actually tried to clear our napkins/silverware before our food even arrived! Thankfully, the food was good, save for way too much mayo, which was easily remedied. The standout item was actually the sticky bun, which we ate the next morning- one of the best I've ever had! All the drinks also look amazing- we tried some kind of berry lemonade that was exceptional. It was also my husband's first time trying bison, and it was thinly sliced to perfection. It appears that they have an excellent variety of breads. I'd recommend going here if you're not too hungry and have time to wait. And definitely get the baked goods!

We were a party of six, including our family friend's mother, who has ALS, and his attitude was abrasive, argumentative, and anything but welcoming. When my wife ordered the roasted chicken, he responded, "You ordered the worst thing on the menu." That's simply not how guests should be treated. I ordered the $72 Tatanka Filet, medium, but it arrived well done. When I pointed it out, the explanation I received was that "toward the end of the night the grill is hot." At that price, I expected an apology and an offer to correct it, not an excuse. Even at the end of the meal, the service remained poor. When we asked for to-go boxes, Sig reached across the table and passed them directly in front of our faces instead of handing them to us courteously. Everyone can have an off night, but what disappointed us most was that no one acknowledged the issues or attempted to make things right. For a restaurant with Dakota Steakhouse's reputation and prices, we expected excellent hospitality. Instead, we left feeling unwelcome and disappointed. Unfortunately, we would not return or recommend it based on this experience.
