Wow! Dinner yesterday: Great flavors... Crabcakes. Authentic food... Clam chowder. Really pleasant waitstaff and hot food when delivered to the table... Fish and chips. There's a nice selection of tap beer and wine. We were there for an early dinner at 4:30 PM and by the time we left there were people waiting for tables. What does that tell you? Visited July23, 2024. Had the best fish and chips in Modesto, came back Oct 3, 2034 looking so forward to the same. Plate came with 3 very thin pieces of fish. Looked like Gordon's frozen fish. OK but not nearly the same and price higher. So very disappointed. Will say the fries were still great. read more

My wife and I really like this place. The only negative thing I can say is, we were bummed out when they took the brown butter cake off the dessert menu. Other than that, service is solid and the food is delicious and consistent. They have a lot of regulars for a reason. read more

We came to Mike's at 3:30pm on a Saturday, thinking it would be pretty slow. Boy, we're we wrong! Would have had to wait for a table if we didn't snag the last two seats at the bar. A server came right away,, took our drink order and got them to us right away.. I don't think she stated her name, unfortunately but her quick service was great. Beer selection was short, but they had a decent variety. The menu is huge, so making a decision was tough. Taylor came over and introduced herself and took our food order - a burger and the fish and chips. A house salad came with the fish and chips, which was fresh and served quickly. Our main entrees were served, hot and delicious. Long story short, even though they were busy, food was great, service was great, and we will definitely make the drive from Tracy to eat here again. read more

Disappointed. Our last visit, Sunday (March 1st) was embarrassing. We were a party of 5 adults plus a 2 year old. We waited 20+ minutes for a table to accommodate us. We did not have a issue with waiting. As the dining seating area is not large. It seemed the kitchen could not keep up with the orders. We waited a long time for our food, as a table of 8 ordered before us. They received their food in increments. It also took too long for me to get my side salad. We received our food and 1 person did not receive their order, a cheeseburger and fries. The waitress stated they forgot his order. Everyone had their food but him. We offered to share our food with him, but he declined. He sat there waiting for his food, as we all ate. We were finishing our food when his food finally showed up. I was so embarrassed. This is not acceptable. Waitress nor a manager offered to make it right. We spent $148.00 on lunch and I'm sorry to say I don't know if we will be back or not. We are regular customers and I am sad to see that this is what happens when no one cares to do the right thing. read more

You guys really need to do something about the calamari it's really terrible, I've been to high end restaurants that charge about the same for it if not less and theirs is miles ahead of yours. I love love love Mike's Grillhouse. There's something for everyone on the menu. This is one of the only places we can go where every single member of my family can enjoy something. The staff is very welcoming and remember you even if you haven't been there for a while. Kyle and Tanya are awesome servers. They are right on the money and have your drinks filled before you even ask. The food is just as awesome as the service. I love their shrimp Alfredo. So creamy and delicious without leaving you heavy. Their club wrap is also delicious. My Husband really likes their fish and burgers. Desserts are great as Well. Love the creme brûlée....so good! They said they have the best and freshest fish in town. Mmmm hmmm, sure, I thought. Out of Mahi mahi, salmon, halibut, and snapper, I chose the latter. They recommended blackened with picatta sauce (you can choose from various cooking methods). I took their recommendation. I was glad I did! I confirmed their original statement. This is a little hidden gem. I wanted to take my boyfriend on a little quick date before his basketball game. We arrived and were immediately seated. The hostess was great, our server was great. Let me preface this review with the reason we went here to begin with. It was a celebratory meal with friends from out of town. We just got married and they wanted to take us someplace special. Ok now to the review- I've only been here a couple times, but each time there's a wait. I mean it's a popular place so whatever. We waited just about 30mins, which for a Saturday was ok. We got seated and was asked immediately what we would like to drink. Cool, love that. The waitress came and got our apps and wine started. The Calamari was good and so were the crab cakes. Would definitely order again. We did a search through yelp prior to going so had an idea of what we wanted to eat. I personally got the Chimichuri melt. I was not a fan. The tritip tasted like it was reheated in a microwave and it hardly had any flavor! Every chimichuri dish I had in past has a nice bold flavor, so I was thrown a bit on the lack of flavor. Garlic fries were good though. Everyone at the table seemed to have an issue with something on their plate. Potatoes are bland (even with gravy) Chicken Marsala sauce was sweet when traditionally it should be more savory, like gravy. Anyway it's safe to say we'd all rate the food as a 4-5 out of 10. Our waitress was attentive, no complaints there. We ordered dessert (fried cheesecake) it was ok. The outer layer was too bread like. I would've expected something a little more pastry-ish. But that is expectations vs reality. It is what it is, but I wouldn't order again. For a party of 4 with wine, apps, entrees and dessert, we were asked to leave cause they have a 90min policy. I feel like for the mediocre quality of the food, they are too pricey and getting asked to leave after spending so much means we'll look for another spot in future. Ask for Tanya! She's our favorite server. She remembers us, knows our favorites (psst, mine is Hamilton's Spicy Penne Pasta with veggies on the side), and we never have to ask for anything. Saw all the reviews, and went this afternoon. Really a let down. Sure the hamburger bun (toasted w butter) tomato, lettuce, melted cheese were done well, but the beef was lean and dry. The side of Cole slaw fell short of even KFC's offering. Spouse ordered the chicken Marsala with veggies and mashed potatoes. The chicken was tender, but the sauce was so sweet, that wife asked if they used wine at all. The waitress said they sweetened sauce with sugar, and the Marsala sauce was served sweet. As some of sauce mixed with the potatoes, veggies, and mushrooms very mixed up flavors. And when we expected savory, we got sugary sweet. Could a sweet Marsala have been used? Too complicated, have to go back to Italian restaurant or prepare at home via online recipes. Too disappointed to return and seen other reviews, now, from diners who expected savory and not sweet. read more

I got the chicken club wrap with a side salad. The wrap was very tasty. I liked how the tomatoes were diced instead of a big slices. Same with the bacon it was crispy but chopped instead of whole strips. This gave each bite a great equal substance portion. They didn't go heavy on the sauce which I loved!! And their fries were cooked perfect, light and golden. I did have to wait over an hour to receive my food which I felt was too long for a chicken wrap. Ordered takeout from Mike's when u was in town for work, had some issues with their online ordering system it didn't work and charged me and then rejected the order twice. That being said I gave it one more chance and called in my order and it was all good. Ordered the shrimp pasta and clam chowder, the pasta was freaking delicious, a little spicy but was yummy. Good sized portion and lots of shrimp. The clam chowder was pretty tasty as well, nice and creamy, lots of clams. This is my third time at Mike's. The high level of friendly service, the great food, and clean restaurant have been consistent each time. Is it expensive? A bit, but the quality of food is worth it and given the location and minimum wage, it makes sense. Is it small? Yes, though they have it set up nicely where even when its packed, you dont feel crowded. Is it busy? When a restaurant is good of course they are busy, go on a Saturday afternoon about 4ish. How is the service? Perfect, and that is from a former waitress. The hostess is learning the ropes and being coached on how to do things better. The bosses are on the floor and glad to have customers. To those that have complained, I see entitlement all over your review. The restaurant owes you nothing but the food and drink you pay for. Just because you were inconvenienced doesnt mean the restaurant did something wrong. read more

Thursday 8/8/24 Stopped by for Dinner and to congratulate Kyle the new Owner. We started out with the potato skins and beverages then on to the mouth watering Pot Roast, New York Steak sandwich and a Grilled Turkey club. Everything was plentiful and tasty. The staff is amazing, last night We chatted with Drew, Taylor and of course Kyle. I have watched them over time and they make sure the chat with everyone.
