We had wanted to try this plane for a while and did not realize there were other locations. Ordered the pastrami and a chicken pesto sandwich. The pesto sandwich was not what we expected but was very good and so was the pastrami. The bread is definitely the star of the show here. We usually love this location but today our food was awful. My husband's chicken sandwich was gross and messy along with the bread being way over-toasted and then mine...where to start. Hardly any meat on my wrap. I got the ham and turkey on a gluten free wrap (hot) and my sandwich was cold and the wrap was like hard plastic and had zero flavor. I have been wanting to try this place for a while. I love sandwiches, and I love sourdough, so yeah, haha. Can I just start by saying the bread was so refreshingly fresh if that is even a thing? Haha. That bread made me so happy with every bite for real for real. The bread makes the sandwich, and this places bread had me wanting to buy a loaf to take home, and I would have if I wasn't counting my calories. Speaking of calories, I love how they have them on the menu board right next to every item so people like me can keep track. The clam chowder was good and satisfying. Now, I don't think there was a clam in my clam chowder, but the flavor was there, and I enjoyed it. I understand you can't make sure every cup of soup actually gets clams in it. The sandwich combo came with a slice of pickle, which I love, and a choice of a bottle of water or fountain drinks or tea. I loved the ambiance inside. It makes me feel like I'm on the wharf in San Fransico. It wasn't too busy at the time, so they had a pickup section and sign, but they brought my food to my table, which was very nice. I don't know if that's standard procedure or not, but it was appreciated. The worker also came back with a small stack of napkins for me, which was noticed and very kind. The cashier was very friendly as well and just all around good friendly service. My only grippe is with the price. $21 for a 6-inch sandwich with a small cup of soup and drink is a little on the high side in my personal opinion. With that said, prices are increasing everywhere, and I think we will eventually get used to it, and it will become normal. I'm just not used to it yet. I do understand the business has to make money. So it's possible I'm wrong in this opinion of mine, maybe, just maybe, haha. At the end of the day, I was satisfied with the food and the experience. Every bite of my sandwich and soup was enjoyable. Everything about the sandwich was on point and well portioned out. Good amount of meat for that thickness of bread. The right amount of tomatoes and lettuce. It's just very well portioned out. I can't wait to bring family and friends here and try the flat breads and other sandwiches and cookies they have at the register. I saw you cookies, yes you looked delicious. My son ordered an 8" garlic pesto turkey and a side of Mac & cheese. The food was prepared as ordered amd was very good. I personally loved the potato soup but thought the Mac & cheese was meh. The flatbread and sandwich had no complaints from either of us. It was fresh, tasted great and had nice presentation. Staff were exceptionally friendly and the place was clean. I picked up lunch here the other day! I was excited to see they finally opened . I was there around 11:20am. When I entered the business there was no line. Yay! And all the employees said welcome to Sourdough & Company. That was nice. So I paced a order for a 6 inch chicken sandwich and a French dip to-go. French dip was also a 6 inch. Sandwich's came with a pickle. Price came out to $25.33 for the 2 sandwiches. Pretty pricey . I started noticing a lot of people coming in as it was getting close to lunchtime. I really liked my French dip . The sourdough bread was fresh and delicious. I also loved the Au Jus. Super flavorful! My daughter thought her chicken salad sandwich was just ok . She didn't like that they put cranberry sauce in it . She also didn't like the grapes in sandwich. She said next time she would want to try a different sandwich. I really wish they had a point system or a email club. Sandwich's are expensive so I'd love it if we could earn points towards a free sandwich. I've tried to like this place but it is too expensive for what you get. I added avocado to my sandwich and it was there, I barely found it but it is such a small amount you can't taste it. For a premium priced sandwich it should have a premium amount of toppings. I understand they have to make money but now after this experience I am out. I'd rather make sandwiches at home and bring them.. The location is nice, the service is great and the sandwiches are decent, what I paid $19.26 for should be at least $4 less. Then I would give this place 4 stars, I would still talk about the toppings and I would still come back. They don't need my money anyways they are busy. read more

This is a new location in Modesto on Dale Road. As you enter, the entire staff greets you with a "Welcome to Sourdough" shout-out. My wife and I dined in, and as we were sitting, she turned to me and asked, "Why do they keep saying Paul Bernardo?" I looked at her and laughed and told her they were saying "welcome to Sourdough", and she responded with, "Oh, because I kept looking at the menu wondering if that was the name of a sandwich." Honestly, I was a little reluctant to come here because of all the bad reviews at other locations, but my wife wanted to try it, and I am glad we did. The place was clean and the staff was friendly. The young lady who took our order was knowledgeable and friendly. She explained the contents of each sandwich ordered as we went. My wife had the Pastrami and Turkey sandwich with a side of Mac-n-cheese. She said, "The sandwich was delicious, and the mac-n-cheese was good but a bit too much with a large sandwich." I had the smoked brisket sandwich as it comes and a side of mac-n-cheese. The brisket was thinly sliced rather than chopped. All in all, it is a very tasty but messy sandwich I would order again. I wouldn't recommend eating this one in your car. As for the mac-n-cheese, it is good for a chain restaurant but nothing like homemade. If this location keeps up with the friendly service and accurate order completions, I can see them maintaining a high star yelp review average. We will be back and so will Paul Bernardo! read more

I was thoroughly disappointed with my large Greek salad compared to everyone else's food because it only had an abundance of lettuce and lacked artichoke hearts, cheese olives cucumbers ham which is not typically part of this menu item but I kept on open mind since their advertised picture does not reflect what they serve anyway. The bread is what really what will make me come back, as well as how cool the staff was. The bowl was fresh tasting and toasted. The soup was extra hot and plenty of clams and potatoes. Also had the cookie which was as good as it gets. Just wish it was given warm. I don't know how the other sourdough place with the golden gate logo has better reviews. Their clam chowder is thicker but less clams and smaller potatoes. And their bread less flavorful. Even though the other one is down the street from me, I'll drive farther for this location. Hidden gem! Had an early dinner because we just came from Kaiser Modesto for an appointment. Was craving for clam chowder in a bowl. Haven't eaten here for a long time and thought to myself how come I don't eat here that often. This place is so good! Their sourdough bread is freshly baked. Warm, toasty and crispy on the outside but soft and moist on the inside. They're also very generous when I asked for butter the restaurant is small and quaint. I like the ambience, it gives a rustic feel. I love the bathroom and how it's very patriotic. Will definitely come back for more clam chowder in a bowl. Food was so good. This is the second time I have been treated poorly by the staff here. The first incident I had with them I just chalked it up to the store being new and freshly opened. I ordered a sandwich and they added the wrong sauce (they added pure vinegar) to my sandwich making it inedible. I told him it was the wrong sauce and he proceeded to argue with me saying it was the right one. Another staff member had to tell him it was the wrong one and that I was correct. So, I waited a few month before I returned hoping they would have their acts together. Clearly, that wasn't the case. The second incident happened today and there was just no reason for at all. I ordered a whole baguette to go figuring I could make my own sandwich at home. I asked if I could get it heated and they said sure. I waited 5 min for them to heat it, unfortunately the staff was not watching the bread or paying attention to the timer and it came out burnt (It was BLACK burnt and not just a little burnt). Instead of telling me the bread was burnt he just shoved it in the bag with the burnt side down hoping I wouldn't see it. Unbenounced to him I saw the bread was burnt as he took it out of the oven. I nicely asked can I get another one that is not burn. He stated "it's not THAT burnt".. I replied: yeah it is and I would like one that isn't burnt please. He continued to argue with me saying he could cut off the burnt end and give me a piece of another bread that was going to be used to future sandwiches. I declined and asked him to please remake it. I guess he didn't like my request and he walked away from me started making to go orders instead. From that point on he completely ignored me! By this time I was almost ready to ask for my money back and just walk out. Finally, another staff member saw me standing there and asked if I had been helped ( I now had been waiting over 10 min for reheated bread). I told her I ordered bread to go and was waiting for another one. That the first one I got was burnt. She walked over to the oven and started another bread heating for me. She apologized and told me it was going to be another 3-5 min wait. I waited over 15 min just to get some reheated bread. That is just unbelievable to me. The original staff member that I was dealing with never once apologizing for anything! Just gave me an attitude and then proceeded to ignore me. Something definitely needs to be done about some of staff in there. They need better training! The whole incident with that staff member was just plain rude and unnecessary. I am not going to support any business that treats their customer so poorly. read more
