Since we were in Cambridge today and my sister-in-law wanted to try a cannoli, we opted to go to Mike's Pastry (this is an offshoot of the original in North End Boston). Very friendly staff, easy to read menu largely on one wall, not crowded and easy to order. Clean and bright inside with about 4 counter seats by the window. We ordered one each of espresso, lemon, and pistachio cannolis, walked around the corner and sat in a cool alley with a bench to enjoy them. The cream is very rich, sweet (2/3 would be enough! Very generous). The pastry is crispy and breaks easily when you bite into it (the paper is helpful to hold it together). Glad we came!
I hate writing this review with 1 star because I used to love Mikes!!! We got the Dubai chocolate cannoli and a slice of mousse cake. The cannoli was quite literally inedible. It tasted like pure cardboard with the texture of paper mache. I honestly was so disappointed with it. My partner got the mousse cake which was sour and bitter. I'm not sure what happened but we used to always love whatever we got from here. Super unfortunate.
Visiting Mike's Pastry in Harvard Square is the perfect way to get their pastries (that taste as good as the original) without the insane lines. The staff here are always so friendly and efficient. While their cannolis are rather expensive ($7-$10 for 1) it does make your day 200% better when you get one of their sweet treats. Their Chocolate Chip Cannolis and Amaretto Cannolis are my favorites! Their cannoli cream is always fresh & smooth while their shells are perfectly crispy. The variety of flavors is amazing. What's not to like?
Mint chocolate cannoli. All I have to say. This location was a lot quieter than the one in little Italy which was nice! Open late, fast service! Crispy on the outside , creamy on the inside. So many flavor options!
Really awesome selection of deserts. I don't think there's anything there that didn't look good. Service was great. Ambiance was very casual and more of a to-go spot.
Mike's is one of the representative chain pastries in the Boston area. However, its overwhelming sweetness was totally a disaster to my Chinese/ Cantonese appetite. Pistachio Cannoli: One of the signature products. To be frank, this cannoli was well baked, with incredibly crunchy dough shell which easily fell apart under a bite, and brimming thick ricotta cheese with a slight hint of lemon or orange zest's citrusy tanginess and fragrance. However, the cheese was ridiculously cloyingly sickly SWEET I had never tasted before, so that I could only persist to half of one. Maybe it suits American taste buds more. Tiramisu: I saw recommendations on the China's food reviewing platform Dazhong Dianping大众点评, but this piece of cake had actually nothing to do with the authentic Italian Tiramisu. As was shown in cannoli, EVERYTHING inside was sweetened, while I couldn't taste any hint of cocoa's bitterness or Rum's fragrance. As a dessert lover, I fell into deep depression and confusion. The only ingredient slightly better was the caramel cream on top, providing more layers of flavor.
Cupcake was yummy, Boston Creme Pie was not good to me, Chocolate Chip Cannoli was a game changer. Absolutely amazing, no complaints. The inside wasn't busy, lots of options to choose from and an entire wall of cannoli options to select from. Will return!
This is primarily a bakery for take-out. I had heard that the bakery is known for its cannoli. There were cakes and cookies displayed but no cannolis. After we placed the order for the cannoli, the cannoli shell is filled in the kitchen and then packed. They are just enormous, so be prepared. We got the amaretto and a pistachio cannoli. We liked the amaretto cannoli more and usually my preference would be pistachio. My personal preference is for a regular size cannoli. The two cannoli came to $15! So pretty pricey imo.
Incredible cannoli place! They have a wide variety of filling options to choose from, as well as pastry shells in vanilla and chocolate covered. I ordered the Nutella cannoli and it was delicious! First of all, they make giant cannolis that are very filling so you only need to order one. The pastry shell is baked crispy but doesn't messily crumble when you take a bite, plus has a ton of flavor. Then the filling is delicious, stealing the show with a creamy and sugary taste that fills your sweet tooth. I didn't think the Nutella cream tasted overly like Nutella, more like chocolate cream cheese with a hint of hazelnut, but was still delicious. They even add powder sugar sprinkled on top. Definitely a go-to stop in Boston!
As my first time to Boston, stopping at Mike's pastry was a have to. The line went pretty quickly, and the employees were very fast and efficient at getting everyone their order. They had a large selection with many different flavor, choices and combinations. I have to say my expectations were quite high, but I wasn't as impressed as I was expecting to be. For me, it was too much filling and too sweet. But my friends absolutely loved theirs so maybe a different flavor for me would be the trick. Overall, I would still go back again and it's absolutely worth a stop! Parking would have definitely been difficult however I walked from my hotel so it wasn't too difficult for me. Parking in Boston is just difficult in general so that's to be expected. But even if you try to park it's still worth it.
Came in here very last minute. They were packing up, so glad I got to grab a cannoli. You can tell it was fresh. Great to grab and pickup, not really a place I'd sit in though.
I'd never been to this location before. I've only been to the one in the North End previously. Service was fast and lovely. There was only one other customer in the entire store. We got lobster tail, fudge brownie, a tiramisu slice, and strawberry cheesecake. The lobster tail were not as crisp as I might have hoped but the tiramisu and the strawberry cheesecake were absolutely on point. Parking was also ridiculously easy. We got a spot right across the street and we were in and out in less than 15 minutes. We will definitely be returning to this location
This was my first time trying a cannoli, and maybe I just picked the wrong flavor, but I didn't enjoy it at all. I always see a line at Mike's Pastry, so when I finally caught it empty, I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, it was way too sweet for me and nothing about it really stood out. I'd pick Beard Papa's over this any day.
Mike's hands down has one of the best cannolis I've had in a while. I definitely recommend splitting one with others since they're so filling and you can try a bunch of different flavors that way too. The line wasn't too long when I went on a Saturday early afternoon and service was helpful and friendly when choosing a flavor (especially helpful because picking dessert flavors can be one of the most challenging tasks we're faced with). read more

I love Mike's! I've always had good, friendly service when I've come here, and have tried a wide range of their cannolis. My personal favorite is the chocolate ricotta cannoli. I agree with other reviewers that their cannolis are pretty stuffed with filling, but I don't really mind that! They're crispy and yummy. Also -- this location is no longer cash only! I've walked past and seen it get really crowded, but if that happens the line usually still moves super quickly. :) read more
Of course, they have the best cannolis. I'm a huge fan of their espresso one, but there are tons of flavors to choose from. They also have an assortment of other desserts, such as cookies and cheese cakes. For $4 you can get a large and rich cannoli. My only issue is that they are cash only. Their service is great and you can get your item in a box nicely wrapped in string. This shop is very small compared to their main north end shop. It's much less busy, where as the other one usually has crazy lines. read more

Gave two cannolis a try in the Mike Pastry Harvard Location. Huge cannolis and only less than $9. Was extremely fast and very enjoyed them. They can be sweet, I usually get the ricotta. I got mint chip and another one. Come here if you're visiting Boston read more
Food: 4.5 Stars Service: 3.5 Stars I'm glad they opened up a location in Harvard Square. I've actually never been to the one in north end and always wanted to see what the store looked like. First impressions, it's very spacious and they have a lot of displays with all kinds of cannolis and treats. What I didn't like is that they don't really have a menu so you can only order based on what you see and what they tell you. When I walked in during the evening, they were actually out of a lot of the cannolis in the display case, but they said that they could actually make any of them on the spot. That was pretty nice and I ended up ordering a walnut, caramel one :) The service was a little bit rushed and not great, but I'm assuming only because they are used to getting through the sales quickly during high traffic times. These are huge so it is a great thing to share if you don't mind it getting a little messy. The espresso and florentine were both hands down the best tasting of the ones we got. We also got the original chocolate chip, chocolate and pecan caramel. There are also mini sizes of the chocolate chip so get that if you just want a quick bit to satisfy a craving! read more
I never turn away pastries and when I walked by this place I knew I had to stop. I had heard about the original location in the North End but figured this had to be just as good. Bonus for accepting cards as other locations are cash only. Their specialty here is cannolis but have not ventured into trying those. They do however have some awesome cupcakes. Better than most high end ones I have tried. My favorite is the oreo cupcake with the best frosting you have ever tasted. They could definitely work on the crafting of the pastries but hey they definitely have the recipe down. read more

idk what a good cannoli is supposed to be like but i think this is it. the shell is crispy but isn't greasy, and the filling is creamy but still feels light. the chocolate chip and hazelnut are both solid options, but i prefer the hazelnut one a bit more. they didn't taste too sweet in the beginning, but then i started to feel the sugar towards the end. the lady at the counter was also really nice. read more

This location is good although much smaller than the original in the North End. The espresso's and cappuccino were great. The pastries also were very good. We had carrot cake cheesecake lobster tails cannoli's and some peanut butter brownies. All the pastries were great although it was later in the evening so I'm Not sure how long they had been sitting around and also wasn't a huge selection and like I said it was later so I can't fault them for that and I'm not exactly sure of their hours. The place was clean as was restrooms. Although it was clean it is kind of small there's a counter type running along the window with 6 or so chairs we got lucky as people were leaving when we arrived and we scooped up 4 chairs however people that came in after us weren't as lucky. I guess if u can get a seat it's good to eat in if not the pastries are great to go either way food and coffees were great and the service was very good and they were very friendly read more
After hearing about the amazing pastries at Mike's but never having a chance to visit the original location, I was giddy as a school girl when I saw the signage of its new location and patiently waited for its opening. Tuesday I discovered they finally opened I rushed over after work the next day (debit card in tow) and waltzed in ready to stock up and start my 3 day sampling/review prep. Needless to say there won't be a day 2 or 3. After being ignored by the surly server then realizing it's a cash only policy, I left. A little unhappy about the customer service first impression, but understanding why many small businesses enforce cash only policy: credit card transaction fees are expensive! There was no love lost. High ho. High ho. Off to the ATM I go. I returned and was, once again, ignored by the server but a gentleman came out from the back and was extremely helpful and pleasant. I purchased a Lobster tail, (massive) slice of Boston Cream Pie Cake, and a Pignoli macaroon and, unfortunately, wasn't thrilled by any of them. - The Lobster tail was unique but underwhelming. The chocolate shell and pastry left much to be desired but the whipped cream filling was delightful and complimented its predecessors nicely. I like concept but it just wasn't that great. - The macaroon was covered in nuts with a chewy cookie texture and LOTS of amaretto. - Lastly, the BCP cake was the nail in the coffin. There isn't an eloquent way to describe it. It was just bad. The custard was a little too heavy and the chocolate had an awkward taste. However, after scraping off the two, the cake itself was tasty. I can't distinguish the flavor but it was a cross between vanilla and amaretto but very mildly/pleasantly flavored. I'm not sure if I'll return, but I HATE not enjoying at least one option at an establishment. I'll wait a week or so and probably go back to try something else. read more

In Harvard square, was a busy area for Sunday. My mom and I went to try out the cannoli a and to see if they speak the truth. I had the hazelnut and amaretto cannoli. The shells were good and then cheese inside was a little too much for me because it was overflowing when I was eating it. But it was not overly sweet just too much cheese for me. It was delicious and I wish I could have tried the other different type of desserts they were offering. read more

No queuing!! That's the best thing!! I wanted to try their cannoli but a queue in Hanover st. shop was like crazy! 20mins wait for cannoli? No way! But here, I got to buy them without waiting on Sunday afternoon. Even had a time to ask and think about each flavors. Tried espresso cannoli and ricotta cheese pie. Both huge and delicious. But to tell the truth, I still don't get why people making line and waiting so long for these. read more

When I told friends that I would be going to Boston, the first thing anyone recommended to me was Mike's Pastry. When I finally got a chance to visit, I had the Espresso Cannoli. The filling was sweet and creamy, and the shell was crisp, which was a good contrast. The dark chocolate chips were the perfect addition to the espresso flavor. I'm super disappointed that I didn't get to try more flavors, but I'll definitely be back on my next visit! read more

Finally! I have always gone to the one in north end and never was able to get anything because of that crazy long line, this one we found right next to our dinner reservation which thrilled me beyond life! We grab the lobster tail (my husbands) and I got the ...3 cannolis. (No judgement) they were all amazing and intriguing in their own ways! Can't wait to try more!!!!! read more

Traveling to Boston from Arizona, we had a lot of recommendations to stop by this place for their delicious cannolis. There was a pretty long line, but it went quickly. Cash only, be prepared to order quickly..fast paced, in and out style. We got the pistachio, chocolate chip and ricotta...all delish! They are huge and soo good!!! Definitely a must stop place for anyone going to Boston!! read more

The cannolis here are delicious but definitely on the heavy side. I've been here many times and my favorite flavors are the amaretto, pistachio, and chocolate chip. Make sure you bring cash if you want anything from here! The big downside is that they don't accept credit cards. If you have a group of people, I would also recommend getting the lobster tail. It's less sweet than the cannolis and I love the cream in the middle. read more
We had a mousse cannoli and a plain macaroon. Both were delicious. I would have gotten more if we were going straight back to where we were staying. Unfortunately, we had some walking around to do and I wasn't able to get more. I would definitely recommend stopping in for a cannoli. read more

Best cannoli I've ever had, I'm hooked! The chocolate chip is by far the best one (no wonder it's popular) it's sweet but not too sweet. I'd definitely recommend for dessert or if you just have a sweet tooth like me. It wasn't busy, went on a Saturday night and there were a few people picking up pastries. In and out in less than five minutes. I was worried they wouldn't take card because some reviews stated they only take cash but this location takes card. They have a huge selection & it's definitely a place I'd return to soon. read more
