Had a big group for my son's 21st bday. Entire staff was AMAZING. They don't do reservations on the weekend, but we were smart about the time to come with a large group (we had the group show at 4:30, we got there at 3:30) and the entire staff was fantastic. From the server we talked to earlier in the week to the bartender to the server tonight and the hostess - all were top notch. Good food, good vibe, good people. Thanks for adding to the celebration! I'm going to guess this place has a good rating based on the ambiance of the place. It's got quirky decor, and plenty of stuff to take photos in front of and whatnot, but the food is very average at best. The menu is huge but having a menu that big I think takes away from the chance to actually have a chance of being something really good. It's probably a great place to hit up after some drinking for sure and with it being close to Kent I'm sure that's why it's always busy. I've been in here a couple of times and tried various things off the menu and was never really wowed by anything. It's all about the outside and inside decor honestly. I also decided to take to another review site and write an honest review about the place (with a better rating than posted here) and the owner of the place proceeded to rip me a new one in a comment back. Just take the feedback and work with it to improve the place. It's called criticism and it's supposed to be helpful. Ordered the pretzel nuggets, cheese sticks and loaded tots as appetizers. They were all good. I also ordered the chicken noodle that tasted homemade. My salad was more cheese than lettuce. My husband and mother in law ordered wings and said they were decent. Our waitress could have been better. She was not very attentive and we seemed to be "out of sight out of mind." This was by far the worst dining experience I have had to date. I always have good dining experiences at Mikes Place and it is one of my favorite restaurants in Kent however the service was atrocious. It took us 20 minutes to get our drink order, the appetizer, the loaded tater tots, came out cold, 40 minutes after we ordered it and 5 minutes before our food arrived. Our waitress, Jenna, only came to our table to take our order and deliver food, not checking on us once. At the end of our meal, our waitress asked each of what we ordered before she brought out our checks. I do love Mikes Place but this will affect the way that I dine in the future. read more

The place to go in Kent for huge portion sizes, generally cheap food, and an extensive menu. Everyone is sure to find something they like! It's also super fun & funky inside--so much going on but very cool. If you live in the area or are in town in the morning this is the place to go for a cheap delicious brunch! They have a huge menu and great specials for breakfast especially if you go early. Early is also best to beat the rush and not have to wait for a table! Although, breakfast is served all day and they do have great lunch and dinner options as well, so there really is no rush. The service is always friendly. I could tell they do a good business and the place is cool. Staff was so nice and our waitress got a bonus. The food is like diner style thats too much to eat and too greasy or too spicey or to ho hum. Its trapped in the 80s maybe. We had wings, fish, burgers,fries,chips,the kraut balls,the gas makers. I had the Kamakazi chicken salad and it was delicious. The chicken pieces were large and moist and flavor filled. The salad ingredient and dressings were awesome. The salad was reasonably priced and the it was massive. I sure wish Mike had a place in Sarasota, Florida so we could frequent it daily. Our Waitress was Candy K and she was very friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, pleasant and anxious to help make our meal memorable. She too deserves A 5+ rating .My Wife had the largest spaghetti and meatballs and enjoyed that for several meals. The ambiance and unique decorations and variety of memorably decor object added an awesome walk down memory lane for us.Tthe items put many smile on our faces and touched our funny bones the entire visit. Do yourself a favor and just read the comedic entire menu. It is the funniest menu and most accurate descriptive menu I have ever read in my 77 years. Okay how do I start this one. Yes my child goes to school nearby. It was time to drop her back off. Of course we got hungry afterwards. Since I'm not from the area you know I like to try new places. So I see this X-wing fighter restaurant on Yelp. Thinking at least the atmosphere will be cool. It was. Inside was stuffed with all kinds of cool memorabilia. Even Elvis was in the house. Read everything, funny bits all over the place in unexpected area's. So I go great the food can't be that good. A large group just sat before us. This doesn't look good. Less than 15 minute wait. Awesome A nice waitress named Lauren helped us. I understand the restaurant business with large groups. We did have to wait a few minutes longer than normal after we placed our orders. No problem. Lauren kept us up to date on or orders, constantly checking on us until the order arrives. She really did a great job. Some of our order is special dietary needs. She nailed it. The order was hot, and delicious. She played the game to perfection. (Hint raise needed). The food was delicious. The Cooke's did an outstanding job. Fun, beachy, divey, and eclectic is just a start to describe Kent's 32-year-old nostalgic venue. The huge menu has weekday specials. Some breakfast items are served all day. Many entrees come with soup, salad or fries. If they don't add $2 for an extra item. The Reuben was huge. Hubby took half home since he ate half of my big bowl of soup. The warm chicken salad with cottage cheese and beef vegetable soup was all very good. We waited for a good 30 minutes to be served, and the place wasn't crowded, but the server was friendly. Quirky and one of a kind don't go far enough to describe this family friendly dive on the outskirts of college town. Luke's X-wing fighter greets you in the full parking lot before you enter - and then it gets weird. Friendly staff sat my family of 7 with no fuss or wait and our server was quick and helpful. It took me a loooooooong time to pick something off of the novel length menu but I really enjoyed my sandwich aptly named "I'm So Confused, But I Like It" - a Rueben with Gyro meat and blue cheese sauce. The Kraut Balls were tasty as well and my son's kid's meal of tenders arrived hot! We sat beside the bus and all the kids had a great time posing as the driver. We stopped here because of all the hype and "oh my god you have to eat here" out there. We thought it was meh. The food was ok, but not great. The server was very nice, but the service was very slow. I got a meatball sub, and it came out on garlic bread pieces not a sub. The sauce was kinda odd tasting-maybe like green peppers, which I don't like. My husband got Rolando BBQ Pork sandwich. They were out of the bread it was suppose to be on so they had to replace it with something else We ordered the apple pie and it was huge and delicious All in all, i would say it's a one and done. This place is a conglomerate of add-ons & expansions to make one crazy structure of nook & crannies! We sat in Mr. Bilbos Room. Very cool! Sunday afternoon had a big wait, then server forgot about us.. but after that it was smooth sailing. Server was nice. So the menu is a handful. 20 mins to look it over there's so much on it. We got Hush puppies as an appetizer. Those were fun! I ordered Meatloaf on mashers w/ BBQ gravy (uh, wow) Also came w/ slaw (just right creamy & vinegar mix), and tater tots (xtra crispy). Wife got Veggie Rueben: Broccoli, Krout, thousand island, Swiss & mushroom. Loved it. Also said chick noodle soup was awesome. Kid had Potatoes skins (we hijacked those tasty treats). Mother-in-law loved the biscuits & she NEVER NEVER loves anything. Dad got Meatless wings, I stole a couple & they were surprisingly yummy. I've been going to Mikes place since I was little. It's a cozy place that's appealing to the eye. Even to this day I find new things that I didn't notice before. The food is pretty good as well. I have been to mikes place a handful of times but I will no longer go back because the food always makes me sick. It doesn't matter what I eat or drink I always end the night puking all the food I consume there. The service is also insanely slow. Every waiter will say they will be back soon with your drink and 15 minutes will pass till they arrive with your drinks and then you won't see them again for another 15 minutes just to order your food. Also it is always cold inside and the walls are crowded with stuff and it is always swarmed with people. Don't waste your time nor money here. read more

This was fun! There's a strange airplane outside. Inside, there's all sorts of private places to sit. It's perfect for covid dining. We ate inside the bus! There's also a boat and many assorted other rooms. The food was good. The Reuben was huge, the children's chicken tenders came with six pieces! The vegetable soup was good. The crab and seafood patties, called SpongeBob's Krabby Patties, were excellent. The kids spaghetti was a huge bowl and the sauce came on the side. The menu is about six pages long and includes lots of fun things to read, including jokes and helpful hints. One of the "rules" is that you must control your children or they will help by providing a roll of duct tape! LOL. We love this place and we'll definitely be back. read more

We had a great family night at Mike's place. It was a busy Saturday night but they got us seated in no time. The atmosphere is fulfilled with the decor and seat options being second to none. My girl friend and I went to Mike's place today for lunch. We stopped in around 11:30am, so it was just prior to any lunch rush that may have. We were seated right away, didn't have to wait at all. She ordered the chicken parm sandwich, I had the Mac-n-cheese burger. Both with fries. The sandwich's were huge. And fries were a very good portion also. She said the chicken was delicious, very hot (temperature wise). My burger was very tasty. (Also hot temperature wise) The sauce they added gave it a "little" sweet taste, which was good. The Mac-n-Cheese was a different addition. Both portions were more than her and I could eat, so we have leftovers for another time. This was the first time I had ever eaten inside Mikes Place, had ordered "to go" before, that food was excellent also. The ambience of mikes place is it looks like he likes to collect things. He's got license plates from every state all over the walls. The staff was nice, service very good. Price was what I would expect to pay for the amount of food we received.
