Was happy to see a restaurant open in Morganton since we live close by but what a disappointment. The ribs were overcooked and dry, the smoked chicken was dry, the green beans, pinto beans and apples were straight out of a can and the macaroni and cheese was just awful. If you want to eat barbecue in North Georgia this is the place! I'm a barbecue nerd, I love Texas-style brisket and this is one of the three places in Georgia I'll order it from. I've eaten at quite a few barbecue restaurants in Texas and Mike's comes as close as it gets here in the SE. And the pulled pork is to die for! It's not the usual chopped to bits pork smothered in sauce you get from most of the BBQ restaurants around here, it's real, hand-pulled pork butt, shreds, chunks and all. Add some of their sweet sauce and it's barbecue pork at it's finest. Best BBQ joint in town! Service was amazing & the food came out unbelievably quick, but delicious. Ribs were so warm & tender. Their mac and cheese was the cheesiest & mouth watering dish ever. They keep their BBQ sauces in a warmer & don't put it on your table for use until you sit down. I love that small detail! It really made them stand out to me. Very reasonably priced as well. I witnessed a couple of people come in ordering to-go & they waited 3 mins. at the most. When they say they're the fastest take out place around, they were not joking. The decor inside is very cool. Hands down the best BBQ I have ever eaten!!! We had the ribs, chicken wings, brisket, BBQ sandwich, baked beans, potatoe salad, macNcheese and coke to drink. The beans had some meat in them too. Best baked beans ever. We sat outside with our little Schnauzer. The waitress brought a bowl of ice water and a boat of chopped white meat chicken for the dog. Service was EXCELLENT. Unfortunately like many BBQ places when they are out they are out of items. Missed out on Brunswick stew and fries. Was not feeling traditional BBQ and got a hotdog with chili, mustard, onions, and cheese which was excellent. Nice Frankfurter and the chili was much better than normal hot dog chili. Mac and cheese was pretty good, creamy style with Al dente noodles. The others enjoyed their pork sandwiches and I even tried the some at their urging. I am not a pork guy but must say it had more bark than other pork and it was much less greasy than I have had. I would try again to get some brisket. read more

Went this morning and were the first ones in at 11am. We were greeted warmly and quickly, my questions were answered about the menu and we both ordered the 1/2 slab ribs, coleslaw and green beans. We all ate our food too fast to even have time to consider a criticism. It was THAT. DAMN. GOOD. While we could've done with a few Boy Scout tips for keeping the flies away from our table, we couldn't blame the little suckers! We gals each had pulled pork and pulled beef sandwiches ($9) that included a side item and a bottomless sweat tea for a dollar more. The guy with us maxed out with a full mixed plate of pulled beef, half rack ribs with two sides and bread to stop it all up ($26). All of our meats were tender tender tender. Not memorably seasoned, but the three (3) options of sauces shoved for that. Sides included the traditional fare of too drippy, sweet cole slaw, (I hate that, but my friends are White and they seem to collectively prefer it that way. Ugh), single cheese mac'n'cheese that sided on bland, but the baked beans were incredibly seasoned with brown sugar and pork (homemade, not canned). Thanks to the smoke billowing over our heads as we ate on the picnic benches on the wraparound deck (inside option also), we were assured all our mess were being prepared freshly. (Too bad it didn't keep the monstrous flies away.) While our teas were bottomless, I had a bitter, freshly squeezed lemonade that was not ($2.50). Our friendly, knowledgeable waitress was willing to Tom Collins it for me (added sweet tea) at no upcharge. (For that reason, I'm omitting her name! Just in case.) The parking was free, right in front of the porch entrance that, to our collective memories, only had the three steps. So, physically disabled BEWARE. We don't recall a ramp. Splitting our check three ways wasn't a problem. We paid cash, alas plastic options were readily available. NO WIFI. The singular-for-all bathroom was clean and large. Service was pretty slow, but we went on a Monday when the choices are fewer (many BBQ places aren't open the front half of the week), and there was the added incentive of "kids eat free" which applied to our large group that had at least 4 of them. 4 Back ribs in a basket with super sweet apples (mountain dew) was under $9 and hit the spot. Plus a kid ate free with that $9, so can't beat that. Those who had the pork compared it favorably with nearby Joes - which I find hard to believe but consider that high praise. Came here for lunch today with a good friend who is a true local, and we passed no less than 3 other BBQ joints and I was like "This must be the place!" He sure was right! The place is tiny, and the decor inside and out screamed BBQ joint! But it was the smells that hit me when I walked in that made me know I was in the right spot! I am a BBQ guy, and this place is one of the best I have been to in Georgia, no doubt about it! Had the brisket which is what I judge all BBQ restaurants by, and the brisket had the most beautiful smoke rings that were distinct. And the flavor!! These guys know what they are doing! The meat was sliced a little thinner than what I was used to, but even a thicker slice would have melted in my mouth! Didn't need sauce even though I tried the two that were on the table, both warmed which was nice. I had the mac and cheese and the green beans as my side options and they were both good! Came with a side of Texas toast. Just a perfect plate of food! The service was also amazing and FAST! Don't miss this place when you are in Blue Ridge looking for great BBQ! Mediocre - at best. And refused to take my AMEX. I went here last week on the recommendation of other BBQ aficionados. The food is OK ... just OK. The portions are small, the flavor bland, and lots of inedible chunks in my pulled chicken. Further, unfortunately, they refuse to take American Express even though I have verified that their card reader will accept it. So, for the additional meager 1% that American Express charges they have lost a customer for life. I'm pretty sure this happens more often than they care to admit. If they are so cheap as to refuse a customer's American Express card over 1%, it makes you wonder about their overall attention to quality and customer service. read more
