I have really bad medical anxiety like as soon as I see a doctor, my fight or flight kicks in high gear. Going to a large practice was out of the question for me because the noise, the rush and the environment just make me extra anxious. To be honest with you, I was avoiding an extraction for a long time because I was just petrified. I finally built up the courage to start looking for an oral surgeon that would preform my extraction. Dr. Peskin was close to my house and to my even greater surprise, had appointments available within a reasonable time period ( a lot of surgeons at competing hospitals are booked out for months on end). I went in for a consultation, Dr. Peskin's office staff is very pleasant, easy to talk to and most importantly, transparent. They advised me that it will take at least two weeks to get benefit verification information back my insurance. I felt a lot more calmer after my consultation, Dr. Peskin was very agreeable and just calm which I really needed because I was on edge. We talked about my options and decided that the end goal was an implant so after my extraction, Dr. Peskin would add bone kraft to my tooth. I was really scared of being under general anesthesia for my extraction and I advised him that I don't feel comfortable doing that and he said no problem, I could do local anesthesia. On the day of my extraction, I ate something a couple of hours beforehand and then I went in. When I arrived, they took my blood pressure (which was through the roof because I was so scared) but they remained calm and assured me everything will be okay. Dr. Peskin came in and administered the local anesthesia and advised me to sit tight for a few minutes while the anesthesia kicked in. When he came back, he checked to see if I can feel any pain- which I didn't and then he started the extraction. I felt the tooth that was causing me so much distress come out but it didn't hurt. He didn't break the tooth while taking it out, he took it out so well and then cleaned the area of the extraction. Then a few seconds later he put in the bone kraft, I was not expecting that to happen so quickly but I felt nothing as he inserted it. Sewing up the area was the longest part of this whole process but it didn't hurt. Dr. Peskin walked me through it all- he told me, "I'm going to pull the tooth out", "I'm cleaning the extraction site", "I'm going to put in the bone kraft" etc.. and that eliminated my anxiety because I was fearing the unknown. Once Dr. Peskin was done adding the bone kraft, the nurse came in and advised me of how to take care of my extraction and advising me of what medication to take. They prescribed antibiotics and pain medications- I actually stuck to using ibuprofen just once that day but the pain was manageable. The pain was manageable because my tooth wasn't infected but every body is different. The nurse told me that she would call me the next day to check in with me and she did- first thing in the morning and that meant a lot. The tooth was swollen the first two days but then the swelling came down. The staff advised me to rinse my mouth with salt water three times a day for the next week and eat soft foods. I did all of that and it allllll helped in the process of healing. I came back two weeks later to remove the sutures and Dr. Peskin said everything was healing well and to come back in three months for implant planning. The whole experience was amazing- my only regret is not doing it sooner. I cannot praise Dr. Peskin or his incredible staff enough, highly recommend them but go check them out for yourselves. Thank you Dr. Peskin and staff!!

After my insurance company pledged to pay $2,000 toward the cost but only paid $1,000, I asked the office for some kind of assistance in pursuing additional recovery from my insurance company. I was told that they don't get involved and the insurance company could do whatever it wanted. When I asked if they would consider a somewhat reduced fee as I had a second child who needed the exact same procedure (diagnosed by our dentist less than six months after the first child and would be scheduling soon), I was told that they don't do that. Friends told me that their oral surgeon (in another suburb) knocked $500 off their bill with a second child having the same procedure a year later. After paying more than $2,500 out of pocket for the procedure for the first child, I would have expected some kind of consideration for bringing a second child with the same issue. Decided to go elsewhere because I could not afford a second procedure at the price charged here with no help on insurance issues or consideration as a return patient.

Across three procedures from 2021 to 2025, after reviewing the history of my account, I was quoted a lower price each time and then billed more after the procedures were done. They blamed the insurance and the app they use to estimate, but the fact is they don't do pre-authorization for their quotes. For my recent procedure in 2025, they failed to disclose a prior denial for the same code and same tooth from 2021, yet still gave me a quote that was wrong and later told me the insurance "unexpectedly declined" the same code. They also pre-charged me before insurance finished processing, without my consent, which broke their own policy and added confusion to the bill. This left me questioning whether they already anticipated there would be a remaining balance - otherwise, the pre-charge and refund back doesn't make any sense. When I reviewed the documents they sent me, I also found another patient's EOB in my file. Overall, this office shows a pattern of low quoting followed by higher bills, lacks transparency in billing, and fails to safeguard patient privacy. If this is their standard practice, I can only imagine how many patients may have ended up with the same experience I had.

Their staff estimated my service to be $2000+ for a tooth extraction, for which they estimated my insurance would pay half the amount, leaving my responsibility to be $1061.00. to which I paid before I left the premise. A month or two later, I received a bill for $1076.50 - the amount my insurance denied. Looking back, I realized I was naive and they manipulated the situation. I thought they would be accurate by merit that Dr. Jodhan's was a professional organization, that their estimates were accurate based on experience. It was after they put my apron for surgery was put that that said I needed to confirm. I assumed that because they were professionals, I might be obligated to pay $100-200. Also, when though the estimated included a tooth graft, they have the recommendation again - thinking back they knew it was optional all along! $1000+ is a huge amount. Knowing that the insurance company pays a substantially lesser amount than the listed price. And their estimate was way off. I called to discuss a mutually responsible settlement. After ignoring 5+ calls, Dr. Nikisha Jodhan instructed that I could pay the full amount with a payment plan. I find her actions to be irresponsive, manipulative, and misleading--which will cost me $1000+ more than I expected She offered a payment plan after I declared to publicize my experience. I am setting up the payment plan, and I plan to share my experience. I have sent her a similar email--continuing to request discussion. She has not responded. However, I've noticed that every single crown done here has ended up needing a root canal. My last crown done here that didn't need one is currently acting up and is going to need one as well. A few years back, Dr. Kase fitted a crown and I remember his hand was very rough - he pulled and pushed on the tooth he was working on very hard and seemed very frustrated while working on it. The tooth was in extreme pain for several days following this. This tooth ended up needing a root canal shortly over a year afterwards and was also suffering from root resorption which I was told is fairly rare and could be caused by trauma to the tooth (which the tooth never had aside from the rough handling during the crown fitting here). I also ran into a massive problem with Delta Dental insurance over them not wanting to cover a root canal done on a crowned tooth done at this office since they already had recently paid for a crown on that same tooth. After fighting with them for months, in the end they refused to cover the root canal. It's hard to tell if the insurance was being unreasonablly difficult and cheap, or they just felt it was a red flag that the same tooth needed to have extensive work done twice within a short period of time (or maybe a combination of both). Either way, the odds of needing root canals shortly after having crowns done are fairly low enough to the point that it is somewhat alarming that every single crown done here needed a root canal in a relatively short period of time afterwards. I simply think that it's only prudent to be weary about this.

He has the nicest staff working for him - the two ladies at the front, as well as the nurse who does my cleaning. I had recommended my coworker to go see him when she needed dental work, and she has been thrilled ever since. I would without a doubt recommend others to go see him as well. The only issue I run in on is that they are very busy, so it takes a few minutes to find a good appt time for me. Granted, I have limited hours since I work, but it ends up working out. I almost always receive calls from the office when another patient had canceled or rescheduled his or her appointment, which to me is great patient care. Either way, if you are looking for a dentist in the Niles/Skokie area, I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Krauss.
