    We had an incredible experience at Miku. I've been to the Toronto location before and loved it, but the Vancouver location is even better and has a larger menu. Every dish was delicious, with the highlight being the salmon oshi sushi. The Miku roll was also excellent. From the beginning the servers were really friendly and attentive. They also allowed us to switch to a table by the window after confirming it was available (we totally understood if the table was already reserved). It was perfect for a date night and I look forward to coming back!

    Who gave this spot anything less than 5 stars? I just want to talk lol. Seriously, were we experiencing the same meal. Steep as it is, I decided I wanted a "quick little sushi lunch with a view", and a quick little sushi lunch with a few is exactly what I received. Although I don't recommend it, I walked right in from the street, no reservation, and was seated at the bar (in pretty casual street clothes I may add). I enjoyed a premium sake flight (which was fine...just fine), an old fashioned served with the perfect accompanying dark chocolate, and a good amount of sushi including their signature aburi style sushi in flight form and nigiri tuna flight (bluefin, chutoro, otoro). After visiting Japan last December, I'm a bit of an otoro snob but I have to hand it to them, all three of these cuts were perfect. The accompanying rice, perfection. The quality of the fish, divine. The view was the cherry on top of this experience. This will certainly be a spot I revisit next time I'm in Vancouver.

    Dropped by at the end of lunch time and miku was able to fit us in before their dinner reservations. Really appreciated how accommodating the staff was. We ordered the calamari, waterfall platter, and salmon and eel oshi sushi. Everything was so good but definitely appreciated their signature Aburi Salmon Oshi Sushi. Layered seared salmon with rice and literally doesn't need additional sauce. All the seafood was so fresh and so so good. Every bite was so tasty and memorable. Excited to come back

    3.5 stars if I could. Excellent service from the staff. They were attentive, checked in periodically and very professional. Michelin starred quality in their service by how they explained the menu, brought out the food, came back around to refill waters. Just top notch service and elegantly so. The food was good but not of value. Their lunch set was a good introductory to what they offer. I enjoyed the food for its flavours and presentation but I thought that it was a bit overpriced. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful, fresh and definitely elevated, but it was $50 for 10pcs of sushi, 2 appetizer sized samples of their appetizer or entree dishes, and miso soup (which we did not get and didn't realize till much later in the day). If you're wanting an upscale experience (and portion) of good quality food or wanting to impress other parties, then this is a nice spot. For regular eats, it's a bit too luxurious to be a casual thing in my opinion. The ambiance is nice and calm. They have a patio, which has a meh view overlooking the harbor, but beware of a breezy day. It will catch a bit of a wind tunnel. They have heaters and blankets but the heaters don't really reach unless you're sitting next to it.

    Great location near the water, make sure you get a reservation! The salmon "box" sushi was great, although a bit light on the fish and heavy on the rice. The soft shell crab was fun, although I have had better brussel sprouts elsewhere. My friend got the mushroom risotto--mushrooms came fried, dusted and savory. Overall lots of fun and great drinks.

    Miku is one of those restaurants that comes up again and again when you're researching where to eat in Vancouver--and for good reason. It's beautifully situated right on Coal Harbor, featured on the Michelin Guide, and widely credited with putting Aburi (flame-seared) style cuisine on the map in the city. If you've ever had aburi sushi in Vancouver, there's a good chance you can trace that experience back to Miku's influence. We didn't have reservations and stopped by for a late lunch during an off time, which worked out in our favor. The wait was only about 15 minutes. I would have loved a window seat overlooking the bay (note to self: make a reservation next time), but even without the view the space felt polished, clean, and very spacious. The open kitchen also allowed us to see the chefs carefully assembling and preparing dishes, which added to the experience. The menu featured a variety of options without feeling overwhelming: raw bar, small plates, sushi, aburi oshi, rolls, nigiri, entrées, plus a solid drink list with wines and seasonal cocktails. There was a lot to explore. We started with miso soup and then moved into what I really came for: the salmon aburi oshi sushi. When I travel, I like ordering something that reflects or is unique to the country or city I'm visiting, and pressed BC wild sockeye salmon done in aburi style felt like the perfect Vancouver bite. Creamy, lightly smoky, and beautifully balanced, it was easily my favorite dish. Knowing that Miku helped start Vancouver's aburi story made it even more special. You could feel each individual grain of rice--my chef other half pointed out that this is exactly what you want in high-quality sushi. We also had the Miku roll (salmon, crab, cucumber, Miku sauce, rolled in tobiko), which was fresh and flavorful, and the bluefin trio--akami, chutoro, and otoro--which my guy loved. He commented how fresh it was and how it just melted as soon as you ate it. The only miss for me was the Kyoto saikyo miso sablefish. I wanted to love it, but the pearl millet didn't quite work for my palate and the flavors felt a bit muted compared to everything else on the table. That said, the overall experience was excellent--friendly service, thoughtful food, and a clear sense of why Miku has the reputation it does. If you're visiting Vancouver and want to try the city's signature aburi cuisine at the place that helped define it, I'd check out Miku. It is a bit on the pricier end, but well worth it to try aburi oshi sushi.

    idk how people like this place honestly it feels like the type of restaurant that exists mostly for business lunches and people in suits trying to expense a meal. the view was also super mid to me... i genuinely don't understand why people hype it up so much. maybe if you're not from a big city it feels impressive? but it really didn't wow me at all. the sushi was fine, but the quality of the fish felt pretty average for the price point. everything is insanely expensive and nothing tasted memorable enough to justify it. the whole vibe also felt really sterile and corporate instead of cozy, exciting, or luxurious. the one star goes to our waiter though he was genuinely super nice and gave great service. otherwise... pass!!!

    Came here with my family to celebrate my daughters birthday. This is a great place for special events. The setting is gorgeous, right next to the water, and the service and wine list befits a Michelin restaurant. They aren't able to sit bigger parties next to a window though. The sushi is spectacular. They specialize in Aburi and that does not disappoint. We had four: - Miku roll, with torched fish eggs, the texture and flavour are incredible. - surf and turf, this has beef tataki and da really different but good flavour - salmon and saba Oshi Aburi. My kids favourite. The flavour - it just melts in your mouth and it is sooo good. The flavour is what really stands out. It's not a huge portion. All the appetizers are excellent. In particular our group loved the tofu salad. My daughter says it's the best salad she ever had. Ebi fritters were outstanding too. Crunchy and delish but somehow light at the same time. The brussel sprouts were a bit spicy. Spinach Gomae has an amazing flavour. The desserts are great too. The banana mousse in particular was sublime. You can't go wrong here for your next occasion.

    They have a Michelin star. They are located in a fantastic waterfront location. I made reservations for my family about a months in advance, yet with all the walk-ins, all they could give us was a high top at the front entrance next to the hostesses checking people in. The waiter was good. He explained how his restaurant was famous for Aburi sushi. He gave us ideas of what to order. We ended up going with his suggestion of an aburi sampler, their signature selection sushi, and also a spicy kaisen soba peperoncino. The food was okay. The aburi sushi had a thinly sliced piece of protein on it. I've had better salmon aburi sushi at a different restaurant. The rolls were just cut rolls. It was like rolls that I could get anywhere else. The spicy kasen soba was a seafood soba with lots of arugula, some shrimp and mussels. My wife was not that thrilled about it. The location would've been fantastic if we arrived an 2 hours earlier at sundown with its view of the harbor. Instead, we arrived after the sun was down, and everything was dark outside. No view to see from our table. It's okay sushi in a fantastic location. The Michelin star didn't make it taste any better.

    Came here for a date night. It's overlooking the water so a prime location in downtown Vancouver. They're recognized in the Michelin Guide and known for Aburi-oshi sushi. It's a type of sushi where the fish is pressed into the rice and then flame seared with charcoal. We got the salmon one and it was definitely the highlight of our meal. Everything else we tried (seafood tower, nigiri) wasn't too memorable or out of the ordinary from other sushi places. I definitely think Miku is more for the ambiance and overall upscale experience than it is for the food.

    We went to Miku for my birthday in August. We had difficulties to choose what to get so we decided to try both tasting menus to be able to try the most dishes. Loved everything we ate. Food was very tasty, especially fish and seafood. The wagyu was to die for. Best meat I have ever had! The cocktails were delicate with great flavours. I was not disappointed. What could be improved are the desserts. The were ok but I expected better. The were a bit basic. The location near Canada Place makes it a great restaurant to take family and friends coming to visit Vancouver. Enjoy a nice meal while exploring downtown!

    Some of the best sushi I've ever had. Omakase quality for a reasonable price. I paid $45 for the sushi lunch which came with 12 pieces so I got to try a little of everything. It was absolutely amazing.

    The food here isn't traditional Japanese cuisine but leans more towards fusion. We ordered waterfront platter, pan-seared Hokkaido scallops, soft-shell crab, salmon oshi sushi, and saba oshi sushi. The two aburi sushi, their signature dishes, didn't disappoint. The sashimi was also very fresh and sweet. Except for the soft-shell crab, which got a bit greasy towards the end, everything else suited my taste. I also really liked their cocktails! The strawberry martini was sweet and refreshing, perfect for spring. I'd definitely come back next time.

Okeya Kyujiro is a Michelin one-star theatrical omakase restaurant, and when they say theatrical, they mean it! From the moment you're welcomed by smiling ushers in kimono to the closing tea ceremony, every movement feels intentional, precise, and elevated. The ambiance is serene and anticipatory. At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening. Some of the dishes were very tasty while others didn't wow us. With drinks, we were quite full despite some reviews saying portion is on the smaller size. Our total was around $500 with drinks for 2 people. A really good experience for omakase, especially if you are looking for a unique experience though not my favourite one I've tried.

I like how the staff shout Japanese greetings to diners whenever they enter but between the frequent shouts and the sheer volume of chatter from all the diners, all sitting close together in close proximity, it was kinda hard to hear what my friends were saying during our dinner. That said, the environment was super vibrant and, again, my friends said this was very typical of an Izakaya in Japan. Food-wise, I have no idea what my friends ordered. The menu was primarily available by way of a QR code and I had no idea what the dishes were, so I deferred to my friends' knowledge. But I can attest that all the dishes were DELICIOUS. We had some sort of Japanese street food "pancakes" (they were wonderful). We had some sort of stirfry beef with noodles (amazing). We had two types of sashimi (omg both were so fresh and so so good!). We had a few other dishes that I can't recall, but I remember I loved them. So.... the food here was GREAT. Service was also attentive which I hadn't expected, being as busy as the restaurant was. I really liked this place but I'll probably go back in the summertime when the weather is nicer as I was cold there, and I'd dine at an off-time, when the volume wasn't so loud. (I'm too old for the loudness!).
