Experience was really good! The cashier was patient as we tried to figure out what we wanted and walked us through popular items on the menu and highlighted what did/didn't have caffeine. Milklab has some of the best milk teas we've tried in the NC Triangle area. We've been here multiple times, and here are my thoughts on the drinks we've tried: 1. Purple Taro Latte - Highly-recommended if you enjoy milky snd sweet milk teas. The taro flavor is so rich. Hands down, this is the best taro milk tea we've tried in Triangle NC. 2. Matcha Latte Milk Cap - my girl loves this because the matcha tastes rich and the "milk cap" gives it a creamy, satisfying taste. 3. Thai Tea Milk Cap - This was our first favorite. The "milk cap" makes this more than just an average Thai tea. One of Milklab's best drinks. 4. Dalgona Milk Cap Latte - Rich coffee milk taste. Strawberry Matcha Latte - One of my favorites; I'd rank this slightly higher than the Matcha Latte Milk Cap but my girl -who's more of a matcha lover than me- prefers her matcha drinks without strawberry. 6. Brown Sugar Fresh Milk + Boba - Not the best brown sugar tea we've tried, and sometimes, we can barely taste the brown sugar flavor but the barristas here in Cary seem to do a better job getting it just right than the Durham location (not the one inside Southpoint Mall) There are other drinks in Milklab's menu we haven't tried that look delicious. They use quality organic ingredients and fresh milk, and their blends are mostly unique compared to what you can get in a typical milk tea cafe. However, I would not recommend their rolled ice cream. Tried twice, and for $8+, we were not satisfied. It seems that Milklab is more focused on emphasizing the flavors of the rolled ice cream's toppings rather than the ice cream itself, which is nowhere close to Andia's ice cream quality. It also takes longer for them to serve the ice cream. Wish they serve Taiwanese snacks like popcorn chicken or Korean pancakes instead (like how Tea Hill, Quickly & Tiger Sugar do it ). Customer service is usually fast here; you can order using the kiosk or via Milklab's website. I'm not a big fan of Milklab's ambiance (just doesn't look inviting inside and out), with its dull walls and cramped space but this particular location has a nice outdoor area with wooden tables and chairs well-lit at night. Most of the time, we just grab our drinks and devour them in the car. Milklab also has one of the best milk tea containers - higher quality and classier-looking than what most other milk tea cafes use. We typically opt for the rose oolong or black milk tea with boba. I am not a fan of the ice cream since it tastes watery to me and prep time is long. I took my daughter here we split a Birthday Cake rolled ice cream. Friend recommendations and Yelp didn't steer us wrong with MILKLAB. Everything we had from this place was really good. To date, this is one of the best places I've been to for boba and rolled ice cream in the Triangle. I think Milk Lab could stand its ground in larger, more competitive markets. At the time of writing this review, this Milk Lab location in Cary has an average rating of 4.5 stars with 438 reviews on Yelp. I agree with the rating. And from the number of reviews, you can tell this place is popular. This is the original Milk Lab location and it opened in Cary in December 2017. It's in the same shopping center as Lowes Foods on Tryon Road. If facing Lowes Foods, Milk Lab is on the right. A second Milk Lab location opened just north of Southpoint in Durham in January 2020. One thing I've noticed so far about Asian bakeries and cafes in the Triangle is they aren't on the same level, visually/aesthetically, as their bigger city counterparts. This Milk Lab in Cary is a good example of that. And maybe it has to do with the Town of Cary and the restrictions it might place on business storefronts, I don't know. While the product is great, the storefront is nondescript and boring. It's nice and bright inside. They have two rolled ice cream stations. With rolled ice cream, each order is made from scratch right in front of your eyes in the open display kitchen. The interior was clean and the design/decor was simple. There's not a whole lot of seating inside. There is, however, a spacious, uncovered, string-lit, gravel, outdoor seating area. During our visit, Milk Lab's drink menu featured at least about a half-dozen varieties each of milk cap teas, milk teas, fruit teas, specialty milk drinks, and matcha lattes. They also offered three kinds of dalgona coffee and four kinds of floats (ice cream + tea; new). Drinks started at $4.00 to $6.65 each at regular size. Large size drinks were an additional $0.75 each. Regular size for cold (iced) drinks is 16 oz and for hot drinks is 12 oz. Large size for cold drinks is 24 oz and for hot drinks is 16 oz. What makes Milk Lab special and sets them apart from a lot of the competition is the quality of their ingredients. They use grass-fed Organic Valley Milk for both their milk teas and their ice cream base. They use Califia Farms and Oatly products for milk alternatives. The cream caps on the milk cap drinks are salted with Himalayan salt. It's a difference you can taste. All the specialty milk drinks are caffeine-free. Since it was late at night, that's what I went with. They're basically milk with additions. Milk alternatives that Milk Lab offered included lactose-free milk, soy milk, almond milk, and oat milk. I had a lactose-free Purple Taro Latte (regular 16-oz size for $4.85). It was delicious with chunks of real taro, "homemade." I got the default sweetness level (most tea shops allow you to adjust the amount of sweetness/sugar) and it was just right for me. I like my drinks sweet, but not too sweet. This seemed to be the right balance. The boba quality was good and among the best I've had in the Triangle thus far (currently, I think Brecotea, also in Cary, has the best all-around boba). Overall, the quality of the drink was great and I recommend it if you like taro and/or are seeking a non-caffeinated option like I was. On the ice cream side, there were 12 kinds of rolled ice cream to choose from, each made with a preset combination of ice cream flavors and ingredients/toppings. All were $7.00, one size only. You can customize too. Our group got five kinds: * Campfire Delight - chocolate ice cream mixed with Graham crackers * Birthday Cake- vanilla ice cream mixed with birthday cupcake and Vanilla Cupcake Grahams * Bang Bang - Thai tea ice cream mixed with condensed milk * Cookie Monster - vanilla ice cream mixed with Oreo * Lychee - vanilla ice cream mixed with lychee and lime juice Everyone enjoyed their ice cream. However, the menu did had helpful pictures to make deciding what to order easier. For example, the Lychee ice cream also came with two Matcha Pocky sticks, slices of fresh strawberry, and Graham crackers. I tried the Birthday Cake and Bang Bang and both were excellent. The Birthday Cake came with a candy-striped wafer stick, Teddy Grahams, whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles, and a cherry on top. The Bang Bang also came with a rolled wafer, whipped cream, and Teddy Grahams (positioned upright in the cream), plus boba. One of my friends got the Bang Bang too and we were both impressed with the overall quality of the ice cream, particularly the ice cream itself. The best boba shop in Cary! Menu is extensive and all the drinks I've had so far were great. I've had their Thai Milk Tea, Banana Milk Tea, and Strawberry Fruit Tea - all with boba of course. We came in on Saturday afternoon and it was super busy. The shop itself is pretty small and they only have one unisex bathroom. The menu is on the wall right when you walk in and it's fairly easy to read and understand. Milk Lab offers milk teas, rolled ice cream, and they also sell boba shakers and reusable stainless steel straws which is a great idea! I ordered the jasmine milk cap tea and the jade oolong milk cap tea. Omg both were soooo good! The flavor of the tea and milk cap were both on point! They didn't lie when they said they use premium tea leaves, and I love that they don't use powder creamer or high fructose! My main complaint is that the drink was still super sweet even tho I ordered them less sweet (70%). I will definitely go with half sweet next time since I don't have the biggest sweet tooth and like things "not too sweet" iykyk. The wait was also long which is understandable, but I learned that they have online ordering so you could always order for pickup ahead of time which is super convenient. For our drinks, it costed a little over $6 per drink for the large size. A little pricey IMO, but they know what they're doing and it was the best milk tea I've had in a long time.
