A surprisingly empty table

Our son was a student at Cornell. Every time we would drive up from Ohio to visit him we'd eat at least one breakfast here. There are several good restaurants in the area, but few great ones. This is one of the best. Parking can be tricky, and they're busy during the school year, but the wait for a table is usually short. The ambience is lively but relaxing, the staff is always friendly and professional. The food is outstanding. It always comes out quickly and hot. They source their ingredients locally and I'd be surprised if they don't make their sauces from scratch. No matter where you may be staying in Ithaca, you owe it to yourself to have breakfast, brunch or lunch here! Cheers!

I passed by this place several times driving they have like a simple but elegant eye catching design black-and-white usually used for luxury stuff like Kate Spade so I get it draws the eye and then when you go to the parking lot, there's a lot of luxury cars which that's not any basis of quality but you know Maybe it's worth checking out. It's a very cute place with decor. It's open for lunch and breakfast. Our server was really friendly and nice. I had eggs Benedict. They were perfectly fine. My wife liked her vegetarian omelette very much. This is this is probably when the nicer like brunch breakfast places in the area like if you wanna have like a sitdown brunch I kinda like it I mean, I haven't tried a whole bunch of places, but yeah this is definitely very convenient for me and pretty nice so I'm very satisfied. will definitely return

Cool vibes, good atmosphere and very busy but they turn it quickly. Close to Cornell and near downtown. Diverse menu with both sweet and savory. We had the ham and cheese crepe which was tasty but I got bored about halfway through...could have been smaller and combined with something to be more interesting. My daughter had the chocolate, strawberry waffle. Again good but nothing overly special. My friend had the huevos rancheros and said it was ok, but we are from Texas so there's that standard to live up too. The mimosa gets a solid 5. Service was also very good.

The best brunch spot in Ithaca! It's not only so cute and trendy inside, but the food is sooo yummy. I came here with my friend on a Saturday morning for some brunch and quickly scarfed down my whole meal. I ordered the belgian waffle with a side of home fries which was delicious. My friend ordered the skillet scramble, which she loved. Very reasonable prices and great service as well. They can be busy in the mornings, but for a good reason! I'll definitely be back!

AMAZING FOOD!!! Berry cheesecake crepe is my favorite! All staff I have been served by so far are so sweet and nice. The place is such a vibe and it's clean as well! Such a nice atmosphere to take yourself out or bring someone and relax with a cozy meal! My favorite spot in town!

This is a very cute and popular little restaurant in Ithaca. It's a bright interior with booth and table seating. There were quite a few folks waiting inside and outside when I arrived. It took a few minutes for the host to come back to the stand but they were polite and put me in the waiting room list. I waited about 20 minutes before I was texted for my table. My server was polite and cheerful. Despite a nice drink and cocktail list, I just ordered biscuits and sausage gravy. The sausage gravy had a nice hint of rosemary but the biscuits were bland and a bit dry. I do wish there had been a bit more sausage in it. And I'd have loved an option on the menu to add an egg. My server checked in on how I liked my plate and kept my water glass full. When she came to see if I wanted anything else, I asked her opinion on the dessert crepes. She made a couple of suggestions (one being the one I mentioned) and highlighted the differences in a way that helped me pick. The chocolate and banana crepe was delicious and light, as promised. I would definitely try Milkstand again and suggest it to others.

Loved this adorable breakfast/brunch place. Attentive service and we loved our choices. My husband had a savoy crepe w an egg on top and I have their egg Benedict. Their local ham made it special!

One of the most aesthetic brunch spots in Ithaca. Easy peasy parking in front and pretty seating. The food however was very bland. I ordered a savory crepe and it didn't taste like much. My friends felt the same about their food. My cappuccino was decent though! Not too much else to add but that this really is a solid 3 stars.

Was looking for brunch in Ithaca and Milkstand came up on my suggested places to check out. The inside decor and the seating is very comfortable and nice. The atmosphere is awesome, and the service was exceptional! We were checked in on our drinks, appetizers, and entrees continuously. I even needed a coffee refill at one point, and they were instant! Love it! The portions are generous here and the pricing can be a little high but I believe for the amount of food you get from your order there is value here. The other thing that's really great about Milkstand is the menu has so many different options to choose from. Make sure to take a look at the online menu before visiting. :)

Unique mac and cheese and good gnocchi!…read more I am debating giving the rook 3 or 4 stars... I was not a fan of the salmon mousse... far too salty and I wish it was paired with crisped bread or at least something other than Ritz crackers. I did, however, enjoy the presentation and taste of the macaroni au gratin. The square shape is very unique and I liked the cheese sauce. The lamb w gnocchi was also quite good. Pillowy and soft. The lamb was cooked well. Overall, I would maybe return. I enjoyed the macaroni au gratin as well as the lamb w gnocchi!

Staff was pleasant and quick. The menu is dominated by drink options (cocktails and wines), and happy hour is 4-5pm, which is perfect for an aperitif. The fried chicken is by far their speciality, with the macaroni coming in as a distant second. But while both were delicious, I'd say the best value and taste goes surprisingly to the simple summer salad, which was crisp, sweet, tangy, and refreshing. It's only $10 for a hefty portion of food and I'd order that again anytime (and that's coming from a guy who'd never normally order a salad). My only criticisms are that the Rook doesn't have many entree choices (which may be a good thing for indecisive diners), and that it's very slightly pricey. Otherwise, it's an easy recommend for me.

However, did love the elevated feel of a typical American bistro. We thought the service could've been more attentive, but improved as the evening progressed. Our waitress was super nice and was helpful in explaining the menu specials and answering any questions we had. Most notably on the menu, the NY strip was a perfect medium rare. We opted to get the 4 jumbo shrimp on the side, which we thought retained a nice snap when we bit into it. It was also well seasoned, while still displaying its freshness. The fries complemented the steak, but was too well done for our liking. Our other entree, the lobster mac and cheese, had a nice cheese pull. We liked the added roasted tomatoes in the baked mac and cheese, which gave it a necessary acidity that countered the creamy, cheesy roux. For our appetizer, we chose the meat and cheese board, which was really solid. Appreciated the waitress explaining the selection, as well as the addition of a sour cherry jam and pickles on the side. This gave us a lot of mix and match options (64 to be exact), and we also liked how it came with charred/toasted bread. Finally, we wrapped up with a chocolate peanut butter parfait and key lime pie. Both were really good (get both if possible, but we liked the latter more).

Anyways... what did I get out of it? An awesome group of people and well... MIX. Updating my review because MIX deserves a proper shoutout and I haven't done it justice. This place is unequivocally my absolute FAVORITE brunch spot. The selection is vast, the portions are hearty, and the staff? They're the kindest, most accommodating folks you'll meet. It's like they've mastered the art of making you feel right at home. And the food? Oh, the food is ABSOLUTELY divine. Every bite is a delicious reminder of why I've converted to the church of brunch. Seriously, I went from a casual brunch-goer to a full-fledged brunch enthusiast, all thanks to CHAARG for leading me to this culinary gem. My brunch game has never been the same.

I've had brunch, lunch, and dinner at MIX, and all with varying levels of enjoyment. My recent…read morebrunch experience included ordering a Where the West Begins omelette, which includes "Braised short rib, butternut squash, red onion jam, spinach, smoked gouda". I wasn't sure how to feel about butternut squash with everything else (I'm not necessarily a huge squash fan - but I'm trying to learn to enjoy it), but the omelette was decent... it's the other side on my plate that looked less than appetizing. The biscuit was still covered in flour (and who wants to bite down on a clump of flour?), the cheddar hashbrown casserole lacked in flavor, and the brown sugar cinnamon oatmeal just... wasn't doin' it for me. Other recent experiences have been similar... there's usually one item on the plate that's flavorful or imventive (sometimes a main dish, sometimes a side), and the other parts of the plate are lacking. In reality, I think MIX is suffering a bit from rising food costs and inconsistency in their service and offerings. They've also changed the style of their menu from the original tapas-style to now being more typical entree options. Again... they've lost some of their innovative, experimental approach. In terms of ambiance, it really depends. I've been here for a work event and, because of the number of people, it was SO LOUD... they had also done a buffet offering for the event. As you can imagine, the food from the buffet was lacking, but that's often what happens when you're more mass producing your food (and it's left in a chafing dish, trying to be kept warm). On the other hand, I've been here for a dinner on a random night and was able to enjoy one of their Thai noodle bowls (and split some other apps with friends). The reality is that experiences at MIX are... well... a mix. Whether service, menu offerings, etc., I've found MIX's recent inconsistencies to be a disappointment. Will probably only visit in the future if it's suggested by others.

The location is a bit of a trek if you're without a car (especially in the winter), which probably explains why it wasn't too crowded when I got there.
