This is a really large seating area, restaurant, and bar by gate G17. All the ordering is via QR code menu which is quick and convenient. You also close your tab that way as well. I noticed they had Eagle Rare whiskey for $14 a pour (same as pretty much every other drink on the menu) so decided to try that. The pours are exactly measured out so you get what you pay for...no more or less. I also had a Diet Coke and a small fry. The small fry was ridiculously small. I regret not taking a picture. A few minutes later they brought me another fry by mistake (and I said I had already had mine) , but it was much larger. Not sure if I got the wrong thing or they got the large fry. The Diet Coke was good and I got a "free" refill! If you sit at the bar, there are no TVs so you stare at beer taps or watch people cook. For a new bar, it is a bad design. Also, the bartenders appear to have to lean over to make drinks at table height, instead of bar height, which seems awkward. My husband and I decided to have lunch at this bar while we waited for our next plane to catch. We were pleasantly surprised! He ordered a burger with a double patty and French fries. After his first bite, he says you have to try this. It was melt in your mouth deliciousness, kind of like a "smash burger" but not- the meat was so flavorful and well cooked. You can see the lady making it, so you know it is not a frozen patty. The French fries were just okay. I ordered a spicy fried Schewan chicken burger. I love it when when a crispy chicken sandwich has cole-slaw in it. It was spicy along with a smoky flavor. I requested a salad to go with it, and that was also pretty good. On a trip out of G concourse we visited the newly remodeled Mill City Tavern. It was fairly slow in terms of overall traffic at MSP so we easily grabbed a table but they are extremely plentiful so would expect it is rare to have a difficult time getting a spot. Like many airport eateries everything is ordered and paid through a QR code app, and it isn't cheap. We ordered Bloody Mary (2/5), a Diet Coke and a side of fries (3/5) which came to $36 including tip. A single 16 Oz beer will run you a little over $10 with tax and tip. You order from an app and tip before your order is in. Basic breakfast with no drink is ~$25 No greeting. No service. No offer of water. No condiments, salt pepper, extra napkin etc I sat at the bar behind a glass decider so the person who brought my food just set it at the end of the glass. So I had to get up and go get it myself. So basically a complete self service restaurant that completely underserves you fills in an 18% tip from the get go. The food actually wasn't bad. Everything else was garbage. And it was dirty. The lazy servers didn't police up the empty plates with any sort of acceptable timing. The airport should kick this restaurant out. It gives the whole city of Minneapolis a bad name. read more

But by the time we got to our layover in Minneapolis/St. Paul, the ABV-enhanced restaurants were open for business for us. This one was close to our connecting gate so we felt comfortable, time-wise, settling in and getting a meal and a drink. I will say that everything came out correctly and tasted good. But service is hovering somewhere between traditional and height-of-Covid-times...and I didn't love it. We ordered via our phones from a QR code....so we also paid that way eventually too. I think maybe you can keep a tab open in the case you might want to order more than your original desired items...but I am not sure how, and so we ended up having several transactions here because it was difficult to figure it all out. You do speak to a server briefly when your food and drink are delivered (which took longer than I might have liked, but also tracked for sit-down airport restaurants). But it is a very hands-off operation with attempts at a mid-bougie ambiance. I had a brunch-y beverage, my dude got a couple old fashioneds (very good, and that is coming from a Kentuckian), and we got some food to sustain us until we got to our final destination. It got the job done, we left with full bellies and emptier wallets. I would consider having another stop here during a layover if it was convenient. read more

Tries to pretend it is a restaurant, but in reality, it is a self-serve....place. the food wasn't the worst I have ever had, and the New York breakfast had a pretty fair portion of poorly cooked food. Well, over medium eggs had runny whites; bacon was nice and crispy and soft and greasy (imagine a grab bag, every piece was different); and sausages were a nice size, but they, the potatoes, and the toast were not cooked to crispy. The server (really, she just carries your food out when it is ready) was pleasant. Nothing really to rate, she was able to walk from the counter to the table while carrying a plate of food. YAY 4.5% service charge for no service. I am guessing they wanted to raise the price but decided to use the COVID-style mystery fee. Did I mention NO SERVICE. Overall, I am thinking the next time through here I will just hit the vending machines. At least there I expect to do all the work. read more

The food was great, but the photos are a little deceptive. I ordered the steak with chimichurri, mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables for dinner. The steak was prepared medium well (although I asked for medium) and the portion was much smaller than in the photo. It looked bigger than it was partly because of the way it was propped up on the mashed potatoes. Also, there were quite a few fatty pieces on such a small portion on meat. That was a bit disappointing. But... there is a bright spot. That chimichurri. Oh. My. Goodness. It was undoubtedly the best chimichurri I have ever had. The brightness and freshness it added to the dish was absolutely out of this world. Expertly crafted and very well done. The mashed potatoes were very good. The veggies, however, were swimming in oil (probably from the chimchurri) and were cooked a little softer than I would have liked. The cabernet blend I paired with dinner (whose name I cannot recall, unfortunately) was a perfect compliment. The restaurant has table-side tablets (iPads?), so no waiting on a server to come take you order or looking around for them when it is time to pay the bill. I usually get the salmon filet but I don't recall that it costs $33. So I passed on that and got the roast turkey sandwich with fries. The sandwich was excellent, the only problem I had was the photo clearly shows bacon in the sandwich. However, when placing the order, the bacon is an extra $2. What the hell the price just went from 16.50 to $18.50. Really? Generous amount of turkey though. Fries were good, some still had potato skin remnants which I like. Not overdone and not greasy. Just a bit over salted but the catsup attenuated that. Beware,they also tack on the tip to the final bill, even if you hated everything. So with the addition of bacon($2), avocado ($1), and the added on gratuity, the total cost for this sandwich came to $24.50. read more

Haven't been to MSP airport forever but this blows away John Wayne airport in Orange County Ca. Every table or bar seat has an iPad where you can order food, drinks, etc.... They have a full bar, wine, all types of coffee and a great variety of food that can be ordered from a waitress, bartender or iPad. I like the fact that they have electrical outlets at the bar to charge your accessories. The bar was about 100 feet from our terminal score! Lots of TV's to watch sports. They add a 4.5 percent convenience fee to your bill just because. There is nothing they do that justifies this additional way to gouge people. This is without a doubt the worst airline restaurant experience in my 52 years of international travel. This airport concourse bar and restaurant is so "modern" that the only way to order is with a smart phone with QR code reader. There are no printed menus, meaning that you're stuck wading through multiple tabs, scroll screens and "more options" links. It took two reasonably intelligent people more than five minutes to order two sandwiches, an iced tea, and a glass of wine. You then had to select your tip amount BEFORE proceeding to your "cart" and prepaying for your meal. (During this time the very pleasant waiter came over for a nice chat but said he couldn't take our drink order while we were trying to figure out the ordering procedure.) The two sandwiches? Barely edible. This was quick-turn food masquerading as high-end pub fare. The BLT came with some sort of commercial spaghetti sauce slathered on the toast. (Without the benefit of a "real" menu, we missed the fine-print description of the meal and the option to order without sauce.) The "sausage" sandwich was a standard commercial brat on a hotdog bun with a brined mustard seed that was so sour it rendered the sandwich close to inedible. The French fries, standard frozen bulk fries, were served barely lukewarm. Requests for steak sauce for the sausage sandwich and malt vinegar for the fries were met with a polite "we don't have those." An offer for a refill of our drinks was proffered via text message. No one ever came over with the customary offer of a refill of my iced tea. And the price for this pedestrian fare? $72!!! Caveat emptor. read more
